  • Amazing find on Father's Day 2021. Three Yamaha JT-2 Mini Enduros at a garage sale. One running poorly, one roller and one in boxes. After careful inventory I decide to restore all 3 to new condition from the frame up. Several parts missing or not available had to be made by hand or sourced from outside the USA. In the end I have 3 rare and fun bikes that are a blast to ride and share with you.
    Here is my journey to rebuild all of them and some of the challenges restoring 50 year old mini bikes.

      It was an upgrade from a Z50, which was my first bike. Progressed to a Honda CL125 in 1974, it had a 100 badge so I could ride "legally" at 15.@@cramersclassics

    Question, about the pinstripe that goes around the gas tank. Is that painted on or a sticker?

    • @cramersclassics
      @cramersclassics  Рік тому

      The tank is painted yellow in the stripe area first. The the stripe is masked off with a pinstripe tape. The whole tank is then painted tangerine orange. The tape is pulled exposing the yellow stripe. The the whole tank is then 2-part (fuel proof) clear coated, color sanded and buffed. You could use yellow tape and clear coat over that as another option.

      @@cramersclassics Hi Can I ask another question(s). The Decal on my bike "Mini Enduro" is missing probably wore off. Is that something you require to get made up or can buy? Also, the gas tank was resprayed several years ago and had a white trim around it. Is that something that is a decal or requires respray/repaint? And my next question. My Seat used to have the "Yamaha" Logo on the rear but that was reupholstered several years ago also. Is the material with the logo something you can buy or do I need to buy a new saddle with the logo. Where can one get it. Our bike never had an Odemeter and I am unsure if it ever came with it? I was aged 9 or 10 when our Dad brought it home in 1976 from a trade in auto exchange. So for me it is very personal to preserve the memory and try and restore it as best I can. If you have an offline email, I would welcome to communicate via email which makes it easier. If you are open to such questions.Thank you Greg St Leger based in Ireland.

      @@gregstleger492 Hi Greg. You can email me directly at: cramersclassics@gmail.com
      The decals can be found on EBay. The tank paint was done with the yellow stripe base painted first, then masked off with fine-line tape. Then the mandarin orange paint sprayed over the entire tank. When the tape is pulled the yellow outline appears. Then the tank is clear coated in a two part fuel proof clear. Or you may be able to find a talented Pinstriper to finish your existing tank. Only the 1972 JT-2 had lights and speedo from the factory. Yamaha offered a kit to add lights to to the Jt-1 that the dealer installed, but no speedo. Sometimes you can find the speedo on EBay.
