Makes me miss my 1974/75 Yamaha DT175!!! Every guy in school was jealous and wanted one, I had a blue one and I rode it to school everyday!!! On the weekends I’d take it on an all day ride with a couple of friends and take on trail rides but nothing extreme!!! Thanks for the memories, I wanted a 250 but it was a little too much bike for someone who weighed 97lbs!!! You got yourself an awesome find and a great bike!!!
I had a 79 or80 when I was stationed at Nellis AFB in Nevada. I did a lot of stupid thing on that bike, like riding out in the middle of the desert alone. No one had any idea where I was, including me.
I had to click on this video, because the weird thing is, I have this same exact bike! It doesn't have the original paint though, but it's a strong runner! I've rebuilt the cylinder with an oversized piston and it has tons of torque! Glad to see you guys have yours in original condition and you're taking care of this old bike! Just make sure your two-stroke injector is working and you don't run out of 2-stroke oil in your 2-stroke oil tank, because you'll seize up your cylinder and have to rebuild it with a new piston like I had to do! Have fun with your bike! God bless!
My first bike was a 1976 DT175!! Back in 81, I bought it for 150.00. Out of all my bikes I've owned, that one brings back the best memories, 14 years old and blasting around the hills with my friends
Man, that was great! Nothing better than to hear a heartbeat after a stroke. I'm glad that you committed to that . Nobody else would. I love to see those 70's bikes come back to life !

I have a 1974 DT 360 I was 8 years old, paid £2000 imported from Michigan similar condition just cleaned and clear coated it, was manufactured with electronic ignition, lovely bike, you've inspired me to finish it, enjoyed the video, from UK
First time to your channel, I’ve been looking for one of these in this condition forever. Either they’re restored and 6k or trashed. Spent some of the best summers of my life riding with my best friend who had one and his brother a 360. They both are long passed sadly but the sound of that old DT brings it all back! Thanks brother! You got a new subscriber
Thank you Paul , I grabbed this for a friend but I'm not sure he wants it . Not sure where you are located but shoot me an email if your serious, sounds like a good home for it . J5150mxVW@yahoo.com. We will see how I feel after the 1st ride , I might have too keep it though :) .
When I was a teenager starting university I wanted one of these bikes. Brings back memories. Seat looks great given the age. Got to love a simple two stroke dirt bike.
I remember walking home from school as a 14 year old, growing up in Darwin and walking into the local Yamaha dealership, Jack Veal motorcycles I think and lusting after the DT 250s and 400s great to see one brought back to life.
I pulled an old Schwinn bicycle out of the attic above my late grandpa's shop. I cleaned up the chrome on it with nothing more than soapy water and #000 steel wool. Came out pretty decent with that even. Also the reason they pop right off for Mustie every time is because he has the magic touch.
Your so lucky to get bike for this era and breath them back in to life an awsome thing I wish I could get these in the UK but a scrap one would cost a fortune
Can you imagine what these looked like all lined up at the Yamaha dealership back in the day? They were waiting to take you to school, the woods or across the nation. They looked like pure adventure.
Jay my first motorcycle I ever.... bought back in 1978 ran it for a little while,,,, had a bad second gear... went and bought a Can-Am 175 Enduro nice bike...... hope you get it running take care yourself happy Memorial Day Junkmando
They are a great little trail bike Jason good find. I had an earlier RT360 from about 1966 which was pretty quick and a real terror to ride, it put me in hospital 50 year ago for a month after a crash in a "Club Motorcross" practice day. But as soon as I was out of hospital I fixed the bike and got right back on and rode it.
Music to my ears; rode one very similar to that, same color even to college during the oil embargo. After college I put knobbies, fork brace, solid aluminum handle bars etc. and took to the dirt; loved that thing. I have a 250 Ossa down in the barn I had to park years ago I'm going to give to my son; man I miss riding those things. I know you and your family will love that bike.
That bike is getting rarer every year bro, definitely worth giving it a frame off resto for sure. Do it some justice and bring her back to her original glory
That sounds really good, probably a bit big for josh just yet, but he’ll grow! I just got my bike running last night, but that was only sitting a year!
Worth fixing and riding. Weak point is the magneto coil. Made to break every 20,000 km. Buy a flywheel puller, I still have mine from 40 years ago. Exhausts can block easily too. If it's really quiet or doesn't rev out properly but runs good otherwise, check this. No turn signals until 75 or 76.
I was thinking how Mustie1 makes it look so much easier and a couple of seconds later you said pretty much the same thing. 🤣 It looks like it should clean up real nice.
When I was little my dad had a few 1975 can am 175cc bikes and they didn’t care how long it sat as long it had fuel it would crank up and run. Some of my earliest memories probably 4 or 5 years old are riding on it in the winter wether and being so cold but I didn’t care it was so much fun.
That Model DT 250 was my 3rd bike when I turned 12 in 1977 same color and was mint plus it was even fully registered but about 6 months later I got my 4th bike a 1976 Yamaha YZ 125C the First Monoshock model and in Australia they had a white tank with Red Stripe like Canada , North America they were Yellow with Black Stripes

I remember the DT250 when it came out in 1974, nice light weight machine with loads of torque. They sold new for $1,200 and were marked down to $800 for machines that were unsold in the next year.
I got my 74 DT 250 in 1977 when I was 12 for $250 and it had Rego, in 1978 at 13 I got my 1976 Yamaha YZ 125c and went from riding my TY Yamaha Trials in Trial comps to Moto Cross : )
That is Slick !!! I could hear the heavy breathing kickin in - when you get to the point of - oh baby almost - ya just gotta keep going !!!! Good helper too !!!!
Fun, you can hear the reed valves start working just before it starts running. Those reeds were frozen shut and that prevented the bike from getting fuel. The Marvel Mystery Oil and some fresh gas melted the sludge off the reeds, then the old girl started. I would have given $1,200 for that bike any day. i had a '74 CT1 175 back in the early 90's that ran like new. Fun bikes, but fuel hogs with small tanks.
@@5150mxVW I about fell over laughing when you guys are trying to get it started and you and your son said something about how he always get things started 😂😂
I think the brake light is shorted to ground, that’s why it’s dimming the headlight when you work the front brake. Cool bike, my first motorcycle ride was on one like that that my oldest brother had, it was blue it was a 175 or 125.
Love these 1st starts - especially the ones where the previous owner claims to have taken care of it :) 42 years sitting around - it was probably waiting for you.
my second bike....76 dt yamaha...ok, it was my dads...but he didn't care...took it everywhere...great bike..top speed about 67....lol....still riding to this day....
awesome bike ! I had the DT250MX and it was allways running...when the ignition breaker was setup right and the oilmix was ok...but espiacially in winter ! it was a good ride... :-)
First Ride coming soon! Thank you for all the likes and great comments Guys 👍
Do you still want those front turn signals for that yamaha 250?
Do you still have this bike
What happened to the bike?
Seeing the relationship you've got with your boy is heartwarming. Reminds me of me and my Father, love to see it. All the best to your family
