Noble Knight Games was unaware that the Traveler ships sold to them were products that had been sold to KickStarter backers (ie Ken sold the same ship to two different people). Once Noble Knights Games found out about this, they obtained a list of the backers to whom Ken had previously sold the ships and mailed them for no charge (and Ken did not refund Noble Knight Games either ... they just fully took the hit for the items). Just really wanted to add this since Noble Knight Games was just another of Ken's victims from his lies.

He's going around to comic stores saying that they can hire him as a savior and it'll boost all their stuff like sales and everything. And he told everyone he honestly did nothing wrong apparently none of this video is true or anything like that the reason? And because he has been telling women that he actually can get them apart on The Walking Dead even though he's fired and obviously he can't LOL
If even half of what you wrote is true, it's fucking gold. Harassment, especially of women, is not funny though and if it really happened I hope he has been properly reported.
I used to live in Somerset and am kind of surprised by how many mutual friends I have with this guy and that he is still doing business there. This is really a sad state of affairs.
What do you expect it's Kentucky, they prefer to imprison intelligent and reasonable individuals so that ultraviolent half wits can run amok and keep Darth McConnell in power so that he can continue the whole America hostage for his own corrupt whims. Larry Bundy Jr I seriously stopped watching the show after that. I mean, the same character got killed in the comic too, but dammit he was my favorite, and a death within the primary cast shouldn't make me laugh out loud at how ridiculous and over the top it was 🤣
He is probably well off, but not rich. He owns a hotel worth 6 million. Which means he doesn't have 6 million. How much he is profiting from that per year is debatable. Depending on location and how much land, 6 million usually isn't that much in the grand scheme of things. Usually a run down gold course can sell for 6 mill easy if there is someone that wants the land and not the course. The kickstarters added up didnt give him that much money compared to real rich people. As far as background acting, they usually don't get a lot of money since they are easily replaceable.
caleb beers - He doesn't even own the hotel. His ex-wife's family owned it and since he isn't married to her now and her family even sold it ages ago he has nothing to do with it.
I met Ken once at a convention -- he was very charismatic and a good talker. Basically high charisma and killer bluff bonus. But most of his projects fail pretty bad and royally screws people over.
They ban your account if you are an offender of scamming with KickStarter ... that is all they do. They do not get involved with refunds for non-delivery.
True ... but now to be a creator you have to provide a social security number that is verified. So while you can create as many accounts as you want ... creating multiple seller accounts is not as easy.
These Kickstarters are just one thing. Ken Whitman has also scammed the Atlanta acting community, promising video portfolios for actors that he didn't deliver (possibly flashing the video equipment he bought from the money for video Kickstarters for the gamers). So a community unrelated to gaming is complaining about Ken's take there, about a quarter of a million dollars! If he claims to have no money now, he has either hidden it in an offshore account, or he may have spent it on, er, let's call it feel-good consumables? He has been caught in one direct lie, so there may be many other lies.
It's probably a purchase made in confidence. the police cannot intervene if there are no paper work or receipt to prove a case. That's why i personally don't fund kickstarters, NEVER buy anything by faith and trust - that applies to the religious side of things as well.
This guy didn't invent the dice pencil. He stole it from school boys around the world who used to play Lonewolf and Fighting Fantasy. I remember marking my hex sided pencils myself.
I think the idea came from Lonewolf. I'm sure the first gamebook suggests using a six sided pencil. Though it could be any number of roleplaying systems that I've played over the decades.
Anyone "so rich" wouldn't need to rob people. I'd say Ken is in over his head. AND Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me 5 more times? Yeah I'm a worthless human being.
I'm going to give the benefit of the doubt, and suggest that each of those campaigns likely did not have repeat people being scammed... unless they are being scammed in order to benefit from their own kind of some weird insurance racket (or other type of fraud). The phrase "there is a sucker born every minute" is somewhat misleading, as there is a sufficiently large population of the planet which do not share the same information, knowledge sets and resources. So there is a set period of time that somebody can continually being harmful to people, indefinitely. Essentially... when it comes to scamming people, as well as other forms of theft, murder or just setting up an abusive relationship, you pretty much have no point where you've run out of people who might not know about you, unless you accidentally target somebody who is important (or in contact with somebody important). So just avoid anybody related to people with a lot of money, people related or in contact with politicians or people related or in contact with media officials. You can continue scamming, thieving and murdering to your hearts content.
The different campaigns happened pretty close together so people didn't realize that the first ones weren't going to be fulfilled before they had already backed the later ones.
Also, the pencils and cards should have been easy to do. There are LOTS of novelty pencil manufacturers, and LOTS of companies use them for advertising. OneBookSelf has print on demand services, and have a web store of nothing but card games (DriveThruCards). They all seemed logical and doable.
Lankey Bastard I agree. Katrina Payne I see and agree with your point as well, to a certain point. But didn't these projects all get started under the "d20" name? I have never backed anything so I'm not sure but I assume that this guy had some info somewhere on his KS campaigns that can tie each other in. Such as his name, or the aforementioned d20, maybe something else like a facebook account that ties the other failed campaigns? It's unfortunate but we live in a time where we must look things over with a fine tooth comb, especially when it's something we are paying for and ESPECIALLY more when what we pay for has yet to be delivered. Either ALL his KS campaigns purposely have different information on them so they can't be tied in together (for criminal reasons), or, the backers didn't do their research on the group they were giving their money to, in which case I'm not going to say they DESERVE to have their money taken but (and only if this latter reason is the case) I'm not going to feel sorry for the backers who lost money.
Ditto and frankly, if he was the high water mark, how the fuck do you explain our numbers today? We fully sold out last year. The bald fuck can go fuck himself.
Yeah, I was there for the 2017 celebration and the whole thing sold out faster than people could buy their four day passes which was a feat. I couldn't even get a four day pass and settled on two days but yeah.....never heard of this guy so hearing GenCon mentioned in the video came as a shock to me. I don't even remember if he was at the opening ceremonies for 2017.
@@megagustman That's good because then he'd have to rely on the public defender which comes with a '99.9% of him getting convicted and being sent to prison where he belongs. Defendants stuck relying on the public defender are almost never acquitted.
Even rich people who aren’t complete wastes of carbon sometimes find it more prudent to crowdsource and gauge the target market’s interest in their shit before plugging all their own gold coins into a maybe baby idea
Man, Ken reminds me of myself actually, in that I will keep getting enthused about a hobby and abandon it before finishing to start a new one. Difference is, none of them cost anyone else their money. They usually only cost my time, or a little bit of my own money.
Hey that's normal. A hobby isn't truly abandoned until you're dead. But if you want to get on with it, make sure to keep an item that reminds you of a particular hobby in your view, like right at your desk.
Don't compare yourself to a con artist, this man is a thief. There's nothing morally wrong with getting bored easily with hobbies, what this man is doing is scam others for profit.
Welp, hasn't happened yet...maybe he's afraid of being definitively outed as a fraud and facing legal redress. He should be, if this video is anything to go by
I don't watch The Walking Dead and my first assumption that his success was due to every tier being "Give me money and I won't embed this pickaxe in your skull". Faced with that, I can't lie, I would've left behind a dust cloud made of fifties.
I'm not worried! I just loved that you did it... I knew you could give it a nice polish... I now don't regret backing that kickstarter, I just wish I could have given you the funds I gave him instead... So I joined your patreon to work on that! Cheers!
Sorry if that was confusing.. Slopes was not the kickstarter, I backed the subject of this video, Ken. I just wish I could have given the money I gave Ken to DJ.. This was an excellent bit of humor.
The fact that guys like this (and the companies he's made/owned/affiliated with) are allowed to continue making Kickstarters after failing to deliver on the first one is proof that crowdfunding is too dangerous to get into for anyone who wants a guaranteed product. If Kickstarter had infrastructure in place to guarantee refunds if a project isn't completed/communication between the Creator and Backers ends, it'd be a LOT easier to justify getting into. In the end, though, Kickstarter is basically an easy-street scam machine where you're not truly beholden to your investors (And let's face it, you scam an investor in the corporate world you'd get crucified in court for breach of contract and any number of other liabilities on your end).
He had another Kickstarter campaign in 2021 but with someone else creating it by the name of Robert Costner. Click the guys name and the links are all to Ken's pages (now no longer working). The campaign was for a short called "Unmortal: Out of Time". The star is former WWE wrestler Al Snow. $2542 with 50 backers, picture wrapped, and it is now 2023 with no progress being shown in post-production. It should not take this long to post-production wrap a short film, period. It's honestly mind-boggling how easy it is to get around the gatekeepers of Kickstarter...
RPG Pens I understand... But anyone who went to school before 2010 knows that a pencil is a rubbish thing to throw. If you drop a pencil, the lead will break. When you sharpen it, the tip will just fall out where it broke. And here they want you to THROW it? "Love your dice? Love your pencil?"... You're really not loving your pencil if you throw it around on the table 50 times in an evening of DnD!
Just rolling or flicking will produce very predictable results. Also, flicking has the same risks as throwing. So you're left with just gently rolling the pencil in a way that will almost ensure you'll get the result you want.
That very much depends on the pencils. I tried breaking Koh-I-Noor Europe and Faber-Castell pens numerous times, and never succeeded. Cheap ones always break though.
Breaking the entire pencil is quite different, that depends on the casing more than the lead. But dropping any pencil, even the most expensive ones, will fracture the lead inside the casing. And going by the retail price of those dice pencils, they are not the expensive kind.
Nicely covered! I don't back Kickstarters, as a rule, but have watched a few of his projects from the sidelines due to Jolly Blackburn bringing him to my attention after the KotDT live action show debacle (which I was sort of excited for). As Ken doesn't do video games, I was surprised to see you cover him, but very happy that you did! This guy's history needs to be known more widely. When people in the comments ask why anyone would still give him money, it's because word simply hasn't gotten around, yet. A lot of people just aren't aware that all of these projects are by the same guy. Thankfully, that seems to be changing as you and the bloggers you mentioned are doing a big part in making him a known name for something other than extra roles.
Yeah, I've heard of this conman before. I almost pledged for some of his shenanigans, but I did some research first, and got a major eyeful of his previous deeds. Don't ever let your money any where near this guy and he's associated with unless you just want to lose it.
Huh... so apparentally Finnish board game classic "Kimble" is a licensed version of Trouble. I guess that's the random tidbit for today. Also, +1 for Golden Axe music.
Holy shit he's the Knights of the dinner table scam artist? I know you say it's not big for you but I'm a long-time gamer and when the creator of knights announced that a live-action series was going to be done it had all of his fans which by the way include the people who worked on the TV show Chuck excited. Each month his magazine comic would have pictures from the set and interviews with the actors. Then he went quiet. Eventually he had to come forward with the fact that this douchebag was holding on to whatever he had in terms of material and was refusing to release it. Apparently from the nature of the contracts they can't go forward their own way. He's refused to release even the episodes that were done or fulfill any of the obligations. It looks amazing for what it is and his actions screwed over not just the fans but also everyone who worked on it. The creator of the comic eventually had to issue public please for the guy to respond on some level. If you ever want to do further research on it I suggest you pick up older issues of knights of the dinner table. Or visit some of their fans sites
Oh and you throw in a side comment about the creator of the comic selling the 20 years of covers book on eBay. There was nothing sleazy involved in that the Creator was trying his best to try and get the product out to some people and while I'm a little hazy right now I believe what you saw listed on eBay was originally because he didn't realize that backers weren't getting their product. His magazine was full of apologies and contact information and he had been indicating that he was doing everything he could including paying out of his own pocket to make sure. So there was nothing nefarias on his end
Jolly Blackburn of Kenzer & Co (with Zombie Orpheus) are releasing the episodes based off of what material Whitman managed to provide to Kickstarter backers after Whitman's license to the IP expired at the end of last year. The emails went out to backers on Monday and Tuesday. Ken "Whit" Whitman wasn't involved in any way and actively hindered the process by refusing to turn over the raw footage he was contractually obligated to provide (and which he claims he still has).
Yes ... but the individual backer amounts are so small that it has not landed him in court. And Ken is broke ... he has zero money. He lives in his comic book store backroom because he cannot afford an apartment.
Just as a footnote ... that post from Ken about being rich is from like 15 years ago. He has made multiple posts on KickStarter, Facebook and internet blog about being penniless and at times living out of his car. So yeah ... this is one thing this video got very wrong ... it very much mistakes Ken's financial position.
@@GalakStarscraper he may not be able to afford paying back the people he scammed but neither could Bernie Madoff. His victims may not be able to get a refund but they can still have him thrown in prison for the rest of his miserable worthless life.
All that money but needs kickstarter to scam people. He's gonna mess around one day and get the wrong one and possibly loose all that money. I'm kinda surprised he hasn't yet.
I've had the displeasure of knowing Ken personally ... and Kickstarter was just another vehicle to scam people - he's been scamming for years prior in the TableTop Gaming days. He's ripped off people with his Print on Demand company and his defunct magazine and many more... he seems to keep going and going...
FYI, he's got nothing to do with GenCon really. Just leaches off people he knows. He sold Larry Elmore prints without even telling the man. The B&B was from his wife's family. Etc etc etc...
Eh, there are a few things on Kickstarter that are not completely bad ideas... but at the same time, they are usually things with development cycles that are relatively short. Video Games, Television Series and Movies have a production length that does not work well with the Kickstarter model. I'm also going to suggest that a lot of these people might have only been fooled in ONE of his campaigns. I mean... there are enough people living in North American Europe, that it IS plausible to have those kinds of numbers and have people not fooled in multiple campaigns.
"If you people are so smart, how some you're not rich" guy has to be careful, it's a sentence extremely similar to that which made The Riddler snap ("If you're so smart why aren't you rich?").
How can he not ship these products? I can buy custom printed marketing pencils for 30 cents and custom playing card decks for $1. If he only needs to ship less than 200 of each of the products and gets 6-8k for each, he could easily ship them. It would take like 2-3 hours to place an order with a printing company and 2-3 hours to print some shipping labels and mail them out.
Ok I thought I recognized the guy who got the refund on the cthulhu dice tower. That's the guy who called himself the high priest of the cult of cthulhu for a long time and published books about satanic and cult of cthulhu philosophy and shit. There were rituals and all sorts of shit posted to a different youtube account. Shit. Haven't seen him around in a while.
I think the idea of dice pencils isn't actually so great. As you use the pencil the mass of the pencil changes. Wouldn't that make the probability inconsistent? And this guy needs a prison cell.
Less mass would just lead to rolls with the same force behind them completing more revolutions. The problem with pencil dice is that they only have one axis to rotate on as opposed to real dice being able to tumble in any direction. With a little practice, one can get pencil dice to "land" on the desired result somewhat consistently...real dice, not so much.
Good News: Zombie Orpheus (the production company behind The Gamers, JourneyQuest, and many others) got the footage from Kenzer & Co for the Knights of the Dinner Table TV series and, at their own expense, edited together what they could to get a copy of the film to backers of the original Kickstarter (even though they had no obligation to do so since they weren't involved in the crowdfunding or the production). ZOE is also the company who threw the Gen Con VIP backer party after Whitman cancelled his and then tried to take credit for ZOE's work.
Wow, haven't heard about Knights Of The Dinner Table since 2011. Spoony One aka Noah Antwiler used to work for them before he started his web series. That Ken dude seems to have an enormously inflated ego.
Clay3613 I wouldn't say spoony worked for them. Four a period of time spoony wrote articles for the mag, but I thought just like everyone else it was because Jolley would publish and he submitted documents that met his approval. I didn't think it was any level of formal employment. And as I recall part of the reason why they parted ways was because spoony's articles were rubbing people the wrong way
I love this show, yes I know you push it over 10 minutes but I just can’t stop watching, you make your video very entertaining and is one of the best shows on UA-cam, keep up the great work man!
Oh come now. That's like saying dice are cubes that you're too lazy to draw your own pips or cards are just cardboard slats that you're too lazy to draw your own numbers. It's a novelty thing and I'm actually interested in them. Gonna look them up right now... well, not from Whitman of course.
CrossoverGameReviews Who has perfect cubes laying around their house? Or who wants to cut and mark a bunch of uniform cards when a pack costs a buck? On the other hand the vast majority of pencils are already six sided and most people have both a pencil and a writing utensil in their home.
Just saw this and had to look him up on Kickstarter.... This is what it says on D20s entertainments page on KS "My name is Ken Whitman and I am a bad businessman when it comes to figuring out how much money I need to create a Kickstarter. I started 6 Kickstarter, and have only managed to official finish one to date. This next Kickster is my story." So...number 7 is coming up.... LOL
As far as online scammers this guy is small potatoes. There is a billion dollar industry in the whole MLM and "Business opportunity" market. These guys will wipe out the savings of old people, run them in to debt to the tune of tens of thousands of dollars. They are rarely if ever prosecuted.
Poor extra nerdy board game fans getting hustled. Now that geek culture is more accepted, going after a more hardcore niche demo that's just craving to see their fandom get some exposure is effed up. This chicken hawk is parasitic.

I GET IT!!!
No. He got rich because idiots gave him their money.

Does Kickstarter not have a process for dealing with serial offenders like this?
They ban your account if you are an offender of scamming with KickStarter ... that is all they do. They do not get involved with refunds for non-delivery.
True ... but now to be a creator you have to provide a social security number that is verified. So while you can create as many accounts as you want ... creating multiple seller accounts is not as easy.
So, Kickstarter now limit to US citizens only? I find that difficult to believe.
I agree
great I would be worried that some oneat kickstarter would use my ss for wrong reason
Police refused to take her case
It's probably a purchase made in confidence. the police cannot intervene if there are no paper work or receipt to prove a case. That's why i personally don't fund kickstarters, NEVER buy anything by faith and trust - that applies to the religious side of things as well.

Ken looks like the one of the Thumb-Thumbs from Spy Kids.
This guy didn't invent the dice pencil. He stole it from school boys around the world who used to play Lonewolf and Fighting Fantasy. I remember marking my hex sided pencils myself.
There is even a French company that is/has been selling them on their website - which I'm sure he just stole the idea from.
I think the idea came from Lonewolf. I'm sure the first gamebook suggests using a six sided pencil. Though it could be any number of roleplaying systems that I've played over the decades.
Proof that you don't need to be smart to make money. All you gotta be is shitty to other people.

Fool me once, shame on you.
Donald Trump... 'nuff said.

Now he scams people by selling Funko POPs that may or may not end up sent to the purchaser. He's quite a character.
If he's so rich, why would he ever need kickstarter?
He gets his 'kicks' out of scamming people.
Cause he knows there are a bunch of stupid people who are easily manipulated?
Cause he is not as secure in his finances as he puts forward.
Even rich people who aren’t complete wastes of carbon sometimes find it more prudent to crowdsource and gauge the target market’s interest in their shit before plugging all their own gold coins into a maybe baby idea
Because rich people are the most greedy ones. And because there are enough stupid people in the world that will give their money to kickstarter stuff.

Sorry if that was confusing.. Slopes was not the kickstarter, I backed the subject of this video, Ken. I just wish I could have given the money I gave Ken to DJ.. This was an excellent bit of humor.
I suggested this as well, through Slope's facebook. The more, the better!

$2542 with 50 backers, picture wrapped, and it is now 2023 with no progress being shown in post-production. It should not take this long to post-production wrap a short film, period.

My guess is you don't throw it, you just roll or flick it across the table

I took this as saying that the book wasn't really and exclusive, and saying it was in the KS campaign was a scam.

Ken "Whit" Whitman wasn't involved in any way and actively hindered the process by refusing to turn over the raw footage he was contractually obligated to provide (and which he claims he still has).
why not contact hasbro gaming and tell them he is damaging the d20 franchise? ... they have the money to sew the living backside of him...
Um.. isn't this evidence that could land him in court?.
Yes ... but the individual backer amounts are so small that it has not landed him in court. And Ken is broke ... he has zero money. He lives in his comic book store backroom because he cannot afford an apartment.
For someone who brags about being rich. I probably got more riches than him with my equipments alone....

I was going to ask what his connection to Gen Con was. Thanks.
Often long time scammers like that end up dead. So give it time.
It's sad that so many fall for these scams so easily, Kickstarter all too often just tends to be a trap for the gullible from what I've seen.
Reina Watt I haven't been burned /yet/. I normally back tech products with working prototypes.
Katrina Payne As the saying goes: "Fool me once shame on you. If you fool me, [I] can't get fooled again."
'Fool me once, shame on you, feel me twice, shame on me'
Reina Watt feel me thrice, we have a relationship going!

Is that Venger Satanis?
What else have you seen from him?
When you say books about satanic and rituals, do you mean he was earnestly practicing them?
This is almost a public service now ^_~
I think the idea of dice pencils isn't actually so great.
They aren't intended for casinos. Who cares if it's slightly off

James Finch Ouch, you need to watch more of these videos from Slopes. GL man!

Pencil Dice: if you're too dumb or lazy to draw some dots on your pencil with a permanent marker.
Oh come now. That's like saying dice are cubes that you're too lazy to draw your own pips or cards are just cardboard slats that you're too lazy to draw your own numbers. It's a novelty thing and I'm actually interested in them. Gonna look them up right now... well, not from Whitman of course.
How is the pencil weighed correctly, though, if it's simply a pencil with some pretty pained dots?

Who has perfect cubes laying around their house? Or who wants to cut and mark a bunch of uniform cards when a pack costs a buck? On the other hand the vast majority of pencils are already six sided and most people have both a pencil and a writing utensil in their home.

I'm 99.99% sure that simple six sided pencils were used. Te dots were either painted or printed.
I have perfect cubes lying around. I draw happy faces on them on the weekends. I do that ever weekend for the past 6 years.
