I was expecting this to be about someone accidently leaving something important outside and the sun melting it. In hindsight, the idea that this would be something normal is rather naive.
She completed the game, even with the government and the sun opposing her. That is hella admirable. In all seriousness though, to even have the fortitude to make this game, despite the genuine belief that the government and *the literal sun* are trying to kill you (and enough misfortune to ground your beliefs in reality) shows a real determination that *demands* respect.
Schizophrenia is such a hard problem for people to get help for, when their delusions often make them distrustful, seeking out help from a third party is the last thing on their mind 😢 Add to that, bad living situations that would be a struggle even without the mental health challenges, and the fact that you need money in America to get healthcare... Yeah.
I find it utterly histerical and hilarious that this person managed to make a complex and confusing board game AND get like, 40 copies completed while at the same time having skirmishes with the navy and fucking plasma spirit battles with the sun itself

You know what the hardest initial thing about schizophrenia is? You can't tell if you have it or not until you tell people you're hearing voices. Then it's very hard to convince someone with schizophrenia that they need to seek help because they know they aren't crazy. Often times even close trusted loved ones can't convince the person otherwise. It makes more sense to them that the voices are real and that everyone else is wrong. Then you have people on the internet who think it's funny to encourage the delusions which is just super helpful. If you're not lucky one day it progresses to the point the voices tell you violent things. Things you wouldn't ever think you could imagine. Then they get louder. More insistent. The harder you try to ignore them the louder and more violent it becomes. OR you can trust that hearing voices talking to you in your head that aren't your own isn't something you should just accept. There is medication that can stop it and all you have to do is ask the right person for help and that's usually a doctor.

Exactly.) Not only are most psychology experiments not even reproducible, their "solutions" work less often than a placebo. Not to mention their authority to just lock you in a cage "for your own good". THERE IS NO ANSWER TO MENTAL ILLNESS. NO ONE HAS IT. You don't get to throw people in hell just to keep them out of sight.

The problem with telling people that are that mentally unwell to “get help” is that they’re already convinced people are out to get them, they aren’t going to listen to you because if they could trust people and thought they were unwell they’d already be getting help
That depends on how they're mentally unwell, not all people suffering from mental illness suffer from paranoia (although in this case, she clearly was).
This! And also people are unsure even *where* to go, even if they are aware of what's going wrong. People tend to say to just "get help" without explaining where and how. It's hard to give that feedback to people you don't know over the internet.
@@1800PAlN I mean, what are you going to do? Refer them to options for a local therapist? @Giffsen As I said, Castle SuperBeast does a fantastic summary, but if you want to see the full story, read the most recent update on the Katalyka Kickstarter page. But for a brief summary: Miss Molly believes she is of the Pink race, and she as a Pink Huntress, she has to conquer the Green race, a group of people who are evil and evolved from plants and this have Solar powers..... Btw, Molly then clarified that the Pink and The Green races also go by 'Good and Evil', 'Yin and Yang, and 'White and Black'.... *and yes, in that way*
@shinymetagross1666 I mean, go for it, I've been working on some stories myself that I've been neglecting and should probably work more on. Backer: Hey!, it’s been a few years hows the board game coming along? Molly: good, having a few delays though Backer: like what? Molly: the fucking sun told me to light a school on fire.

When I heard the Sun stuff, I immediately thought it was a publicity stunt. As a green I would like to say the sun had nothing to do with her failure to deliver on her goals, nor did UV rays. However it is hilarious that I can call myself green and in context people understand what I mean and why this is so funny and fucked to me.
honestly the fact she not only finished the game (something the most well managed kickstarters cant do) while experiencing all the stuff she went through and pretty clearly having some kind of psychosis possibly as a byproduct of all that Stuff is almost admirable
I remember that back in the day of the Kickstarter, the avatar for Molly Friedrich on KS was a very awkward looking image of her face and shoulders without clothes visible. Through means I do not even speculate about, someone found that it's actually a cropped image of Molly posing nude... which would have been an indication that things aren't right, if people had known before the KS ended.
Poor woman must be extremely mentally fatigued, from what little you mentioned about being homeless, having her stuff stolen, etc. Sometimes, it's not even mental illness that can render itself as auditory hallucinations or whatnot. Extreme stress can make this happen. Sometimes, sometimes if I get pushed too hard by life I don't sleep and eventually objects get crab-like appendages with speckled brown and white legs and crawl. Atmost it's for about 2-5 minutes a day, it does make me scream or make me want to brown my pants; but it's only temporary. I don't want to think about the hell this lady is going through.
Wow, I think I've vaguely had the same thing happen to me Whenever I'm especially stressed out and sleep deprived I see random tentacles pop out of things out of the corner of my eye for split seconds that make me double take.
man i feel a tad bad for everyone involved! that's like the inevitable outcome for anyone who has untreated/unmedicated schizophrenia, which is that molly is probably homeless right now (or worse) and most of the backers got ripped off essentially.
Some tabletop games don't have boards. That's where the distinction is. Board games tend to be a lot more colorful and are more likely to have gimmicks, while tabletop games are mostly but not universally descendants of Prussian military planning 'war games' which got really popular as a recreational activity. Then people started adding or subtracting rules or changing the subject or just making stuff up until you get to stuff so abstracted from that origin that the linage really shocks people, like Dungeons and Dragons.
Okay so as of writing this particular comment I am currently dealing with being sick. As of November 2023 she was updating her kickstarter page with updates like "I exposed that black culture was using its influence over u.v. to attack anything on the planet that got too close to being a fair huntress... Which was the ultimate goal of animal evolution in the stellar culture." so apparently her mental health has not improved much.
I really needed this video and hope Molly gets help sometime. She inspires me to finish my own stuff in spite of all the mental problems I have. . A couple years ago, I started a comic book which should have been completed in less than 2 months. My friends and I were super excited. The only problem was that was in March 2020... before things fell apart in the US. My life has constantly been a mess since then, but I've had to keep at my projects. I jumped from job to job, burning out from work , college, and the incompetence of the US governement. I kept putting the comic project down to no avail. Drawing became the only thing that keeps me sane and I've had to concede that I actually need to draw this comic book stuff everyday to be stable. . I have some of the same mental health issues as Molly, from hallucinations to issues with gender/sex, so I have some idea of what she's going through. It was unbearable and I hope the best for Molly. It's just such an accomplishment to keep pushing for a project through mental illness, and Molly's inspiring me to keep pushing too. Hope someday there will be a video detailing Molly's recovery.
Thanks! I finally got one comic book done two months ago. Two months seems like a lot, but I used that time span in contrast with professionals. Granted, i'll never be talented or rich enough to afford that time, but realistically I needed to work faster to tell my stories faster too.
The big twist is that the lady wasn't crazy. The Navy really did want to stop her from making a board game to keep their spiritual plasma attacks secret.

See, at first I thought someone had a terrible idea about a board game using something that would end up melt in the sun, and that's how it was ruined. Then when I heard about the board game I thought I was wrong and that maybe it wasn't the sun, big glowing ball of fusion, but The Sun, scandal ridden British newpublication of quationable quality, that had somehow harmed her efforts and ruined the board game. But no, turns out it was the glowing one, but not in any way I was ready for.

Yeah but not telling them isn't gonna help them either, it's kind of a lose lose situation

Good on you for realizing, that's always the first step! Although 2 months seems like a very ambitious timeline for a comic.
Thanks! I finally got one comic book done two months ago. Two months seems like a lot, but I used that time span in contrast with professionals. Granted, i'll never be talented or rich enough to afford that time, but realistically I needed to work faster to tell my stories faster too.
