I am absolutely baffled by the amount of people who choose to refuse to brake and end up contributing to a collision, rather than just being the bigger person and easing off the accelerator
I don’t think the fact that these are almost always a fisheye lens helps at all. It makes things look a lot further away than they are. The braking distances in many of these look a lot longer than they actually are. Although one or two could brake sooner.
I’ve found expecting other drivers to do the stupidest thing possible and giving them extra space has always worked a treat at keeping me out of trouble.
Reading the road well ahead and reducing speed if something looks amiss has always worked for me. Some of these were obvious to spot and could have been avoided.
watching this makes it extremely clear why my driving instructor used to constantly go on about being ready to slow down for people pulling out of side roads. So many of these incidents could have been avoided if the dash cam drivers had been paying full attention to their surroundings
ALL of those incidents would have been avoided if the drivers pulling out of side roads had opened their eyes. In many of those cases you are doing nothing more than blaming the victim. Yes, we are all duty (and legally) bound to avoid an accident if possible, and that includes driving with due care and attention ("hazard perception"). But when another driver does something so unutterably stupid as to be utterly unpredictable, then there's only one person to blame, and it's not the dash cam driver

This video is a great example of why I don't even like to be a passenger when there's snow and ice on the road. No point driving in those conditions unless it's absolutely necessary. You can drive perfectly and still come undone because some random person doesn't understand how ice works
Even over here in the south of Norway a lot of people forget how to drive in winter after 8 months of no snow or ice. Always chaos the first couple of days.
These days there seems to be more of an emphasis on "speeding", rather than "inappropriate speed". Many people get into the mindset of "I'm within the speed limit so that's fine" despite not being.
I made the same right-turn there a few weeks ago - the fact remains the silver car should never have made that blind turn, just like there should never be a blind turn out of a junction (as an example). It's Station Road Swinton
I can’t be the only one that tried to move out of the way whilst watching that. It would have been damned scary to see that truck coming at you at that speed.
I was thinking the same thing. Luckily I've never had a serious accident but on a couple of occasion I came close the last thing I had time to do was hit the horn.
they should play these on the theory tests, they’re a great learning tool for what to look out for and how ineffective of a substitute the horn is over the middle pedal for avoiding trouble

28:31 is a perfect example of just hanging back, being patient. Even without the car the idiot biker crashes into, the cyclists and white car should be enough for caution. Coming from a biker myself.
As the bike crashes you see an L plate. Clearly a learner who hasn't learnt the rules of the road yet. Do bikers not need to pass a theory test before they ride? Because in a car, a learner driver has to have a fully licensed driver with them but obviously you cant do that with a bike. So what? They just let yobbos out to do whatever they want?
9:23 as a motorcycle rider, this is why you always apply the front brake SMOOTHLY, even in emergency braking, and why you always look 10-15 seconds down the road if you can... kneejerk reaction, grapped full front brake, front tire locks, and out she goes from under you.
He was watching the hazard the entire time he was on the roundabout - as a biker, I ride like I haven't been seen and would have just let the van go and kept my bike upright!
I actually felt quite bad for the guy in the Civic. It’s like he was reevaluating all his life choices up to that point. Also kudos to all the people who rushed over to help in these clips. Too often people just drive passed.
I'm always shocked with those kinds of clips at the amount of people that are in close proximity (up to 5 or 6 cars back) to major and possibly fatal accidents, especially the ones on things like dual carriageways and motorways, that just slow down a bit to have a good look and drive on past. The BARE minimum that they could do is put their hazards on as they drive past to warn drivers behind them that there's a hazard up ahead! I honestly don't know how they can simply drive past. Even if I wasn't involved but I saw an accident happen in front of me, I'd pull over (somewhere safe if possible) without a second thought and see if there was anything I could do to help. Even if that's just giving any non-injured passengers from the vehicles involved somewhere warm and safe to sit in my car whilst they wait for the emergency services/ recovery. I like to think that the majority of us would hopefully do the same and not just think "meh, someone else will make sure everyone is okay and call the emergency services if necessary".
I like this type of comments. Means you have absolutely no idea what are you talking about. Dash cam lenses are so called 'wide angle' lenses to cover much larger area than a normal one. What it means on a video - you think objects there are much further away from the vehicle fitted with a camera. Ergo - driver has much less time to react that you think (if you think at all). Blabbing, that these were avoidable is a complete nonsense. I would agree that some percent of these WERE avoidable but 5% to 10% at the most.
@@novtalath I like these kind of comments - because it shows you've no idea what you're talking about, and you completely miss the point. Moving your foot to the brake is faster than pressing your horn, the other driver looking around, realising it was them you were beeping at, and then if you caught them on a good day, working out they're going to brake. If one is pressing the horn before ones foot is on the break, then defensive driving skills need to be improved. While doing that - in many cases, one might also be more aware when approaching a hazard, and already be slowing down; rather than just gunning it because right of way is had. Breaking then honking reduces the chance of the crash, and at worst, makes the impact less. Exceptions are obviously when NOT so close to the other driver, that they have a chance to react. For example - 24:56 - the break is applied, then the horn. There's no point at all using the horn, because after slamming into the side of the car, one can be pretty sure they're aware that they're aware they've been hit; and they're not notifying anyone of anything other than their anger.
In caskerbang's defence he said 'how many' of them (not every single one). There were clear and obvious situations where the driver, though not initially at fault, ends up causing an accident when it likely could've been avoided. Some could well be due to the optical illusion you mention caused by the wide-angle lens (they were much closer in reality, I get that) but I could point to a fair few where it looked like the driver getting punked then hit the punker on purpose to prove his / her / their point. Granted we're ready and waiting for an accident when watching these, so are on full alert so it's much easier for us, 'in hindsight' so to speak, to judge who's at fault but if nothing else it proves we must be on high alert at all times - never take your attention away for a split second. Easier said than done but a good lesson.
@@UKMonkey You have read the comment... and understood absolutely nothing. Well done. Now go back and read AGAIN and this time spend some time THINKING of what have you just read. I do have a dash cam. You do not see me posting vids because I have some dignity left in me. I do agree that pressing break is faster than using horn yet still some people need that horn otherwise they will continue moving in and definitely cause an incident. You have picked one situation in that vid but miss the bigger picture. As for use of the horn - if some dickhead drives straight in front of you and you have to break and let's say you do use horn - I am sure they don't need to look around on who is using it as they are aware that they are a twat that just not gave way to another vehicle. I would not be surprised if you were one of those that silently use the horn on every possible occasion just not admit to it. And if you will come up with some rubbish about being an advanced driver - spare it.

@@jeremypnet Yes. If he stayed at home those days, he could have avoided the collisions maybe.
Can everyone stop crashing into Darren's mini please
HELPPP
12:25 Now that must've been an interesting one for the insurers to deal with
This video is a great example of why I don't even like to be a passenger when there's snow and ice on the road. No point driving in those conditions unless it's absolutely necessary. You can drive perfectly and still come undone because some random person doesn't understand how ice works
Even over here in the south of Norway a lot of people forget how to drive in winter after 8 months of no snow or ice. Always chaos the first couple of days.
That Toyota GR Yaris at 29:14 is one tough little car!
13:48 Driving through a very busy set of traffic lights at 30mph even if you have the right of way is just asking for trouble.
Very much agree.
I am always very cautious passing a line of stopped cars. You just have to expect someone to switch lanes or allow a cut through.

2:50 wow that mini's really been through the wars..
Three really terrifying ones in a row starting at 5:16. Imagine that happening to you.
I can’t be the only one that tried to move out of the way whilst watching that. It would have been damned scary to see that truck coming at you at that speed.
Yeah 5:16 is awful to watch.
I have a classic car & I just know that if that happened to me in that car, I'd be crippled or dead.

I like it how they press the horn twice as fast as they hit the brakes.

11:03 I know it's been said before, but this is as much a case of ramming from Lee the driver as it is for the Jag entering the roundabout. Totally avoidable from Lee but you rammed him to make a point, what an arse.
yes I was thinking that too. He's only doing 20 surely he could have stopped. Same with the other drivers. They're tooting their horn and then crash. Sorry if you can toot your horn you could have stopped instead

1:57 Nice mirror check and timely indicating plus cruising after impact to minimise the obstruction of the public highway.
The snow clip at 10:54 reminds me of when I was driving too fast in conditions similar to that and nearly rear ending the car in front. The driver of the car in front saved me by noticing my stupidity from a mile off and accelerating out of the way.
You could could see that cars brake lights from a mile off and the cammer didn't slow down at all. Did he not know that it takes a lot longer to stop in icy conditions.
@@Tanson11 Yeah not sure what the cammer was doing but what on earth was the Fiesta even stopping for? Stupidity on both parts
@@BBrownyy The cars ahead of the Fiesta were braking. Admittedly the gap looked pretty darned conservative... but, well, we see what an optimistic gap and late braking gets you...
Also ABS brakes may have made them realise they have even less traction than they thought, prompting them to slow down even more.

Lots of lots of folk need to make their new year's resolution to be BETTER people on the roads. But it's hard for a lot of folk to have that level of self-reflection, especially as they are all the best drivers ever.
You can remove "on the roads" and "drivers" and your statement will be even more accurate.
I swear to god 98% of these are avoidable, stevie wonder would get out of half of them. It staggers me peoples lack of perception. If only horns were linked to brakes!
I agree, its almost as if people want to accidently get into a collision on purpose just to prove their point or get a new car on the insurance!

They did link em together in Top Gear once that was funny
3:25 How is that the Audi`s fault?? Why did the BMW stop in the middle of the roundabout?
Exactly my thinking
From the perspective of an insurance company it'll be the Audi because it drove into the rear of the BMW - although realistically its nonsense, in theory the Audi should have given enough space to brake in time, or avoid the obstruction in the road
he just jammed on his brakes for no reason. crash for cash maybe....
Seems to me that the audi emerged too quickly which would've prompted the braking of the BMW
Interesting that the BMW has also stopped in a Keep Clear area.
@6:25 Yes, you are partially to blame, you pressured her to move when she couldn't see because you were in the way. I would have wound the window down and told you to get out of the way.

28:31 is a perfect example of just hanging back, being patient. Even without the car the idiot biker crashes into, the cyclists and white car should be enough for caution. Coming from a biker myself.
well yes but the car shouldn't have pulled out, biker had right of way but yeah it was for sure preventable if the biker had read the situation
@@greenpick-uptruck8808 The biker was an idiot, he does a close pass on the cyclists as he is impatient. This added to the crash.

2:09 the fact I go round here every day hahaha
9:23 as a motorcycle rider, this is why you always apply the front brake SMOOTHLY, even in emergency braking, and why you always look 10-15 seconds down the road if you can... kneejerk reaction, grapped full front brake, front tire locks, and out she goes from under you.
Yeah , even worse in the rain! Looked like an old bandit without. Newer bikes are much more forgiving!
11:14 I've seen trailers come off the back of trucks before, but I've never seen one break in half before! Very unusual!
I think when the airline breaks the truck automatically goes onto full braking which is a good reason not to follow too close.

I actually felt quite bad for the guy in the Civic. It’s like he was reevaluating all his life choices up to that point.
Also kudos to all the people who rushed over to help in these clips. Too often people just drive passed.
He sounded so relaxed about it all.
*past
Jay (?) looks like a 40 year old trying to look 18. In fairness, he does drive like an 18 y/o. What a muppet!
He's a manchild. Dressed like a toddler ffs.
Its amazing how many of these accidents could have been avoided if the cammer was as quick on the breaks as they are on the horn 😂
That's for sure
Then you MIGHT come to a conclusion that what I have wrote actually makes sense. If you still missing the point - then so be it. Not everyone has more brain cells than average person.
Thank you, brilliant compilation.
