I come here quite often because, at around 0:47, Kim's smile bursts through all the limitations of the video's picture quality and adds about a month to my life.
Nausea, Bloodline, This isn't Real, extra CD track plus the entirety of his first album is so special, I really wish more people could hear this and wonder in the beautiful sound that Kurt created. I am beyond the younger days when I didn't want 'my' bands listened to by people I may have deemed 'unworthy' of listening to them and wanting to keep it to myself, if you have the chance to listen then do. Ultra Vivid Scene's eponymous first album is right up there and, he recorded it at home and mastered it on to a betamax video cassette which I had the pleasure to listen to when I first moved to London and worked in a studio.
blooming hummers this duet brings back the smell of memorys, when i just got into ultra vivid scene n various other late 80s early 90s alternative music scene, after stomping on the dancefloor with the lads in some illegal warehouse rave...guess i just finaly chilled out laid back n let the scene drift me on the morning sunrise into bliss...loved the late 80s early 90s music scene...fuck all compares to it now
If anyone has the time then listen to Ultra Vivid Scene's self named first album and their next 2 albums, their (or should I say his) first album is a work of beauty and the other two are not too bad also. Such a shame that Kurt Ralske never got some kudos for such great song writing.
I agree completely. He's a great talent who did not get more recognition. I loved his music from the beginning and often wish he would have kept going with the band.
I hope the "didnt know who she was" in reference to Kurt Ralske was some sort of bad joke, especially given the second time around. What a great video this was - great to have it up. I only saw it once around the time that "Joy: 67-90" was released. Kurt did some great stuff; some of the EPs were stand-outs with the EP version of "Three Stars" REALLY an excellent cut. Ditto for the long version of Codeine & Mercy Seat. Codeine was quite haunting... K
hmmm... yes, very similar melody to september gurls as mentioned in the comments. but listen to the beginning of this song > (look it up) " bright colored lights crash" < ...almost same exact notes. btw, crash was kurt's band before uvs. the main force of the band, mark dumais passed away years ago, a victim of aids. a former crash band member (who was later replaced by kurt) says dumais was as 'gay as they get'. i still love crash's music. rip mark.
According to interviews in "Facing the Other Way: the Story of 4AD" by Martin Aston, Kurt Ralske claimed this video took all of 15 minutes to shoot and was simply improvised. Kim Deal says: "It was either kiss or hit him, so obviously I was going to slap him! ... I'm sure I hit him harder than he was expecting." No budget and no script but still memorable.
This is from snubtv which was on the BBC for about 2 seconds in 1989 before the dicks pulled it, not before it put a whole new raft of musicians on the map though. I bet the major record companies were fuming.
does anyone know the story to that? it makes me laugh every time. (push-slap!) kim is a goddess. kurt is a pretty talented multimedia artist-dood but...? lovers' quarrel? creative playfulness? either way, kim comes out on top. maybe he tried to challenge her alphaness?
I love the song, but hate the end of the video. She slaps him? Why? Is that ok? What if he had slapped her? The end of this video makes me cringe every time I see it.
I come here quite often because, at around 0:47, Kim's smile bursts through all the limitations of the video's picture quality and adds about a month to my life.
Kurt is brilliant. Aaaw. Kim is adorable.
What it lacks in quality it makes up for in KIM DEAL!
Kim didn’t have a slightest thought that she slapped someone who turned out to be the respected professor of fine art.
special song with special vocals of Kim Deal. adorable
I melt when I watch Kim in this video.

How can a girl be so gorgeous, so nice, so cool, so... Man, Kim does not exist.
I love her smile. I just found a UVS tape, I was so lucky to find this.

I used to be so in love with her. I met her once and couldn't say anything!
Lovely song and video. What an infectious smile KD has

Kim Deal is so beautiful.
I had all of Snub TV on tape until my Mum taped over them when I was away on holiday. This video and song has taken me back to being 14. Thank you!
UVS Album Joy 1967-1990 is one of the 10 best album of the 90's

LOLOLOL thanks its my first time seeing this - beautiful
Kim Deal looked pretty good back then.
i read that in SPIN back in the paril issue, but had forgotten they were doing a tour this fall. cool news, thx for the reminder.
0:47 - 0:51 I think I'm in love..
UVS is NOT "Emo" - Kurt Ralske was Ultra Vivid Scene, played all instruments on the 1st & best album.
Kim Deal is supercool :)
La gifle !!🤣🤣🤣🙏Le pauvre
LMAO "Kurt Ralsk"

Ouch...!!! I felt that slap... =/
But she still got such a voice !
Never heard of UVS, but now I can't stop listening to this song. Also, Kim is great. I love the sudden slap around 3:00.
You should delve into their/his catalog. Great material.

I wish kim would look at me like this too
Yeah, back when she looked good.
I agree. I love UVS. What's happened to music?
Wish someone would post the clean, full color version of this.
Um this is the original video, it looks like this on purpose to mimic the look of an old music show.
According to interviews in "Facing the Other Way: the Story of 4AD" by Martin Aston, Kurt Ralske claimed this video took all of 15 minutes to shoot and was simply improvised.

Man, if he had done that to her, he'd be in handcuffs. Women...pfft.
ha ha good one
The Real Deal. ;-)
lol @ the slap :)
Jo! I used to have this recorded off the telly :-) Ai Kim Deal, just as @drgonzo says.
Same here!!
I don't understand what Kim Deal is doing there really, sorry for her.
This is from snubtv which was on the BBC for about 2 seconds in 1989 before the dicks pulled it, not before it put a whole new raft of musicians on the map though. I bet the major record companies were fuming.
Good God. I wish I was Kurt Raschke at that very moment.
She can slap me anytime.
Back when kim was fit.
i want Kim Deal to push me, too
@2:55 i want Kim Deal to slap me, too
How do think it feels?
funny... they sound like felt here
0:57 - 1:05
love kim. miss the breeders.
3:oo Toma! Puño directo!!
@scartissue94 Just curious. It's ok wonder what someone's orientation is...
shit on me.
Kim quanto eri bella e bona!
jajaj!! la cagada!!
This dude looks like Josephine - the old Breeders bassist.
does anyone know the story to that? it makes me laugh every time. (push-slap!) kim is a goddess. kurt is a pretty talented multimedia artist-dood but...? lovers' quarrel? creative playfulness? either way, kim comes out on top. maybe he tried to challenge her alphaness?
Pfft. Hardly. If he'd slapped her he would've been in handcuffs. Double stanard.
Is she a lesbian?
If not, she's certainly giving that lesbo vibe.
cool ! she slapped that Emo.
Emo? Moron.
Oh she shoved him! I wanna buy her a friggin sno-cone.
I love the song, but hate the end of the video. She slaps him? Why? Is that ok? What if he had slapped her? The end of this video makes me cringe every time I see it.
dude it's a guy !!
Number one - He looks like Josephine Wiggs (the old Breeders bassist). Number two - Kim is the only reason to watch this video.
Uh, the great song brought many here.
Needs more cowbell....
Holy Christ, it's Chris Crocker (before Britney)! Get away Kim, get away. Hit him harder!
