I read that Hader had never tried to impersonate Alan Alda before, then was cast as him in a sketch, so went home and came out with this impression after one night.
That's talent.
Nicole S A "lot of work" often comes off as talent.
Bill Hader doing Alan Alda was the best one of this skit
One of the best Pacino impressions you'll ever hear
Always gotta take that stuff as a combination of talent and work. I think he probably watched a lot of Alan Alda stuff for all the details to get it really perfect but I think vocally he can just naturally pull the voice off without even trying. He's said on the flipside there are some impressions that he has really put a lot of effort and still can't do very well, like Christopher Walken.
Do you have a representative video of Alda for all of us who were born in the wrong era? :)
Fred's Prince kills me every time 😂
VLF218 *sneaks away slowly*
VLF218 my problem is, he looks so much like Nicholas Cage!!
Auditioner- "Uh... Prince??"
Prince -
😐
I wanna like but it’s at 666
The Fred Prince of Bel Air
Oh my GOD! His Alan Alda impression is terrifyingly accurate.
Ditto. Lv Alan Alda.
Adrian Camilleri
He Is Legend
Adrian Camilleri if you closed your eyes you’d think it was him
Do you have a representative video of Alda for all of us who were born in the wrong era? :)
DarkSaruman any episode of MASH. I think it’s on netflix.
There's Bill Hader and then there's everyone else.
He breaks character too much not in this one but in pretty much everyone else. ..
@Carleigh Davis Yeah, John Mulaney would add jokes at the last minute to try to get him to crack when he was doing Stefan.
Exactly!
Yeah
@@derp195 same with Fred Armisen. He lives to have people break character!
my left speaker loved this
Swore it was just me
Me too!
Same here...and these are earphones. Kept trying to adjust them.
???
I thought my headphones are broken
Bill Hader, the KING of unpopular impressions. Who else has an Alan Alda?!?!?
It's a really spot on impression. But since you asked, Maurice LaMarche does a fantastic Alan Alda as well in Futurama (specifically, in the episode War is the H Word).
Also, Peter Serafinowicz.
@@LakeFX Is that a real person ;-)
Peter Serafinowicz does a fucking amazing Alan Alda, Id say even better than Hader's
@@KingoftheJuice18 yes.... The voice of darth maul in the phantom menace. Oh and pete the flat mate in shaun of the dead.
Colin looks like he knows something about you that you don’t know
I think we all know something about your thirst
We know he's dating Scarlett Johansson. Lucky bastard
@@gator9339 Married to.
I would gladly let him know it.
😂🤣😂🤣😂
Everyone's praising Bill Hader's Alan Alda impersonation and rightfully so, but Taran's Pee Wee Herman was great too.
For real, Taran's great
Which is why I'm pissed he wasn't used more when he was on MADtv (Taran Killam was a cast member on that show for a season, and not even a full one). Inless back then, he wasn't that experienced with impressions, which I find a crock, because he did that parody of The Calling's "Wherever You Will Go" that's probably one of a handful of MADtv sketches I can say I actually liked.
TL;DR: I'm pissed that MADtv didn't use Taran Killam in sketches the way SNL did. His Jebediah Atkinson character and some of his celebrity impressions would have fit in.
@@canaisyoung3601 Well I know he voices Nature Cat on PBS Kids, along with Kate McKinnon being on that show as well.
Ok
Taran's impression is good, but he's relying on "telegraphing" it by using famous quotes/phrases Pee Wee was known for. Hader's Alda is better in contrast, in part because he's generating abstract/improvised material while "evoking" Alda more than imitating him. Don't get me wrong, Taran is great, and his body posture and use of physical mannerisms is great, but Hader's impression is just better. If I were to heap praise on Taran for anything, it'd actually be his Gilbert Gottfried impression, since it's also spot on, but is Gottfried as Biff, a much more difficult task than just impersonating/quoting Gottfried.
Hader's Alan Alda is THE most accurate vocal impression I've ever heard. The mannerisms are also perfect. Incredible.
Spacey does the very best Walken. I know it's the easiest ever but Spacey really does an amazing one. Him and ....shit...Kevin...little short bald dude w a goatee, he's great too
Peter Serafinowicz is just the Goat on Alan Alda. Even Bill says this
lmao jesus h Christ Bill Hader's Alan Alda killed me haha
before the camera panned up, and it was just his voice...it was Alan Alda. Or so I thought.
It is SPOT ON
Spencer Allbritton MURDERS me everytime!!! So f-ing good!!
Amazing. That's the only time I've seen him do it.
What does the H stand for/
That was hands down the single best Alan Alda impression I have ever heard! I STILL can't believe that wasn't his voice!
To me it's the only Alda one. I'm not aware of any others. But if they exist, they're not topping Hader. Its ridiculously spot on!
@@waynej2608 Yeah I can't recall any others either. Good for Hader for finding a character nobody else has really tried, and for doing it so well!
tbf how many alan alda impressions have you heard
@@romulusnr I mean, there were probably a lot back in the 80s and 80s when he was a much bigger star. Just not many now.
There was one on Futurama that was ok, I want to say it was Maurice LaMarche
Colin looks like he's approximately 13 years old 😂
Which is funny because SNL hired Anthony Michael Hall when he was 17 years old in 1985.
Alan Alda as Biff. That concept alone is funny, but then Hader's Alan Alda impression. Holy crap.
Joe D probably watched some M*A*S*H 😆
Kenan Thompson as Bill Cosby had me laughing, especially the way he said Marty's name like mAR-DEE
Holy fuck his Alan Alda is pitch perfect jesus christ so impressive D:
ditto. Amazing wasn't he. Bill Hader is so good at voices.
your foul mouth is totally unnecessary.
Oh my god I lost it at Prince lurking in the background 😂😂
Jesus! I miss Bill Hader so much. He´s so amazingly talented
+Joana B Why did he leave SNL?
+Luvie1980 just like many others,he moved on and decided to do movies and other things. he did documentary now with Fred Armisen. ive seen the first season. its amazing
RIP Bill Hader
Raiden Garcia hes not dead
RIP Bill Hader
Bill Hader's Alan Alda is the best impression I have ever heard.
Bill Haders Alan Alda is just spot on!
Bill Hader's impression of Alan Alda is so good that it makes it seem like the real Alan Alda is just doing an impression of Bill Hader's impression of Alan Alda.
Bill Hader needs an Alan Alda podcast like Kevin Pollack's Talking Walken. Damn I could listen to that all day
I agree that voice is amazing.
This is the first i am hearing of this talkin walken and i gotta say. I like the sound of it
Alan Alda has a podcast these days
Check out Clear+Vivid with Alan Alda
@@ossaogboom5449 Yeah, it's cur-Azy good.
Colin's face @ 1:02 when he brought in the clapperboard for Prince 😂😂😂😂
My left ear enjoyed this so much.
James Ambrocio Did you remove the right 'phone just to be sure? (not saying that I did or anything........)
The Alan Alda impression is SPOT ON
I could watch 5 more hours of just Bill Hader doing Alan Alda. He is SPOT ON
Just seeing this for the first time. How in the heck did I miss this. Been watching MASH for many years, that Alda impersonation is dead on.
Bill Hader's Alan Alda impression is so fucking amazing.
If you know who Alan Alda is you can really appreciate the nuanced and truly spot on impersonation.
Taran Killam was killing it with his impressions.
Gilbert Gottfried:
“What are you looking at?! Butthead!”
I lost it 😂😂🤣🤣
I think bill hader is so talented, and by far the only comedian that even comes close to Jim Carries talent and range
@Diane Berg Late reply but he's more than that, he's done dramatic roles as well
@@dawsonpetryshen581 both have done dramatic roles. I would pay to watch Bill Hader and Jim Carrey together in a dramatic film actually.
*Carrey. 😀
Why is literally no one talking about Colin Jost in that outfit 👀
I know, right!! He is 👀
Everyone's talking about how amazing Bill's Alan Alda impression was, but can I just say that Taran as Gilbert Gottfried was the most underrated impression in this video?
Nicolas Cage! 🤣🤣🤣 Omg Bill Hader's impression of Alan Alda is spot on.
Duuuuude that Alan Alda impression is SPOT ON! so weird how alike he acts. Well freaking done. I would love to see more Gilbert Godfrey impressions.
Gottfried
Oh my god Bill Heder is a genius. They should do a whole series of MASH. I'd would totally watch that.
BILL HADER ladies and gentelmen....
THESSALONIAN31N I like Hader, but a lot of this impression comes off as Carson.
THESSALONIAN31N I
THESSALONIAN31N
He Is Legend
THESSALONIAN31N I
Brilliant. Simply and purely.
I always revert to picturing him with a baseball bat, chasing away that punk in Adventureland.
The Joan Cusack impression was on point
Its A+++ wish the audience would have reacted to it tho.
@@rrh1980Abby Elliott never got the credit she deserved on SNL
1:49 Her Joan Cusack is spot on haha
Who is the actress?
aman arora abby elliott
I still miss Abby Elliot.
God, Abby is hot! Even there
@@niclas9990 I also love her impersonation of Zoey Deschanel.
I wasn't looking at the screen, just the audio was playing in the background. When I actually looked over at the screen, I was in total shock that I was seeing Bill Hader and not Alan Alda. One of the best impressions I've ever heard.
Hader nailed Alan Alda
Bill Hader as Alan Alda is so above what everyone else was doing. From the mannerisms and the delivery; that's more important than just vocal mimicry.
bill hader got it perfect.
is this like...the only time Colin Jost hasn't just been on Weekend Update?
My Getaway this was before he had that spot. He was a writer up until then.
He played John Kasich back in 2016
He’s had small roles in sketches like Rap Song and playing Pete Buttigieg.
This was back when he was a writer. Most writers on SNL do get screentime as extras or in parts where they have little to no lines. That's how Bowen Yang started out.
He also was in an episode of Laser Cats, as part of the Titanic band with Jason Sudeikis and John Mulaney
Now I just adore Bill Hader!
I wish more people knew who Alan Alda was so they would know how absolutely spot on Bills impression is.
You mean they don't? Geez. I must be getting old. 😃😎
Anyone who is shrugging at Bill Hader's Alan Alda impression, your assignment is to binge-watch 3 hours of M*A*S*H, on each of five consecutive days this week. Shrug no more.
Lol I never think of Alan alda as an impersonatible celebrity but bill hader was spot on!!
Virtually celebs can be impersonated. However, "MASH" for some reason was rarely the target of parodists. SNL never did a take-off on it, for sure!
I didn't know Alan Alda's name, but I still recognized what actor it was just by Hader's voice. This guy is insanely good.
damn, that was a great Alan Alda impression
Keenan is hilarious in whatever he does, even if his impressions are not bang on. Something about his stifled grin that makes me laugh.
Bill hader
Bill Hader just knocks it out of the park! Not just with his impeccable voice talents, but mannerisms as well. Bravo!
0:35 It's Jost!
Kinetsie Varvenfloot omf g
Alan Alda thinks this guy is great
Kinetsie Varvenfloot wtf
@Kinetsie Varvenfloot Ikr?? Reasonable!
Gilbert Gottfried!! Hilarious!
They were actually all soo good 😂
OMFGROFLMAO Fred Armisen's Prince just killed me.
I didn't get it
Right out of the gate Andy’s Nick Cage has me rolling 😂 love these sketches!
Bill Hader has literally the perfect Alan Alda impression!!!
"I want in. Who do I "beep"?
So damn funny.
Taran Killam's Pee-Wee Herman brought back a lot of childhood memories for me...like how he scared the hell out of me as a kid.
And it's weird that Taran plays both Gilbert Gottfried and Paul "Pee-Wee Herman" Reubens, not just because they're both dead, but because Paul Reubens actually auditioned for SNL during the 1980-1981 season (the Jean Doumanian era, considered one of SNL's worst seasons ever), but Gilbert Gottfried was picked over Reubens (and being snubbed from SNL is what led Paul Reubens to create The Pee Wee Herman Show for HBO, which led to the movie, Pee Wee's Big Adventure, which led to Pee Wee's Playhouse).
Lord have mercy, Bill's Alan Alda was spot tf on, and he looks hella cute too?? Like, what??
Oh hey look its Colin Jost at 0.36!
You mean 0:36
That guy's great
Straight here, agreed.
good eye!
Hey! Gilbert Gottfried got outdone by Taran Killam. Good on him. Plus, Abby Elliott sure done one on Joan Cusack.
He's so good. It's so good
Who played Gilbert?
Fun fact: Gilbert Gottfried and Joan Cusack are SNL alumni. Coincidentally, they were on seasons considered so bad that they nearly got the show canceled.
Bill Hader's Alan Alda impression is INSANELY brilliant!!!!
Jesus! Bill Hader's Alan Alda impression keeps getting better and better with each sketch. #Respect
That Alan Alda impression was amazing 😂
Damn! That sneery Prince side-eye was on point!! 1:05
As an avid mash fan, that Alan Alda impression has me SHOOK!! 🤩haha
1:57 holy shit that’s Colin Jost on the right. I know he was a writer, but it’s really weird seeing him appear on the show before he was a cast member.
His best character ever on SNL
I didn't know there was such a thing as an Alan Alda impression. Holy crap, Bill Hader, you should own a million gold pieces.
i like how you can hear them telling joan "no" in the room
Bill Hader's Alan Alda is so spot on that I almost thought the voice was dubbed by Alda himself.
Omg Bill Hader as Alan Alda....spot on! 😂😂
Fred as prince was hilarious 😂
Close your eyes during the Alan Alda parts. It's insane how much he sounds like him. Wow.
A lot of these impersonations were actually pretty damn good...
That being said... Bill Hader is a God of impressions. So damn talented.
R.I.P Prince
I know I have never seen this segment before. Bill Haders Alan Alda was spot on! He is so talented and funny!
Hader got Alda spot on.
HOW DOES BILL HADER DO THAT? BEST IMPRESSION IVE EVER HEARD OF SOMEONE IN MY ENTIRE LIFE.
Alan Alda is the closest impression of anyone ive ever seen. Probably THE greatest impression of all time!
I am so impressed with how he did that of that Mash guy
They're all so freakin talented but Hader knocks it out of the park every damn time
wow that Alan Alda impression. just amazing.
I never tire of these SNL audition sketches!
I didn't know Alan Aldssa's name, but I still recognized what actor it was just by Hader's voice. This guy is insanely good.
This is genius from Hader, sounds more Alan Alda than Alan Alda himself 🤣
Now I really want to see them actually do a shot for shot remake with "Alan Alda" as Biff, "Pee-Wee" as Marty, or the younger version of his father, and "Nick Cage" in the role not taken.
The “I had jackets like this. Can you believe it? I’m the old guy.” somehow sounds exactly like something Alan Alda would say. Bill Hader must have watched some Nova specials when he was doing research.
Fred Playing as Prince is what I live for
Bill Hader is a genius
I was barely keeping it together until peewee herman “future??, that’s the magic word!” “I know you are but what am I?” Completely lost it after that🤣
That Gilbert Gottfried was perfect. Even that smile in the end
I think that is actually the first impression I've ever heard of Alan Alda. But that voice was dead on!
The joan cusack one was so on point lmao
Bill Hader as Alan Alda😍😍😁
Bill Hader's Alan Alda impression is incredible.
Jesus Christ Bill Hader's Alan Alda impression is AMAZING!
Didnt realize Bill Hader was so talented in doing a variety of impressions.
Bill Hader as Alan Alda? Perfection! More like that please!
they need to do more of these auditions on the show I always thought they were hilarious especially the star wars one
