Once I started to read a nonfiction book about pandemics in a bus full of people during winter flue season... It was a mistake😅 So many people were sneezing and coughing I felt so paranoid, oh my god!! 😂😂😂
Welcome back i missed your videos! I’m counting on your reviews because you’re the only booktuber i’m on the same page with and your reviews and star ratings never dissapointed me when i went into a book. Hope you’re feeling more jolly these days, wishing you a full recovery 🤗
Welcome back, Emily! If you're interested in Middle Grade that isn't a very simplistic writing style, I highly recommend any of Frances Hardinge's books! Her books are shelved sometimes in MG and sometimes in YA, and I think I've even seen a couple of hers shelved with adult/literary books, so I feel like they'd be great for people who are looking to explore different age ranges! She's definitely one of my favorite authors and her writing is descriptive and magical without going over the top.
Glad to have you back. All those books look interesting. I haven't read too much this month. I just finished reading 'The Wicked Deep' after giving YA a short break. Wasn't to happy with it. So, far I'm trying to read a nonfiction. I don't know which one yet, I have a couple on my phone.
I'm so glad you're back; I've missed you! I hope you had an awesome vacation and get better soon! I FINALLY read The Poppy War and was obviously obsessed! I've been adjusting to transferring colleges so I decided to re-read some books (Mistborn, The Long Way to A Small Angry Planet, Harry Potter) the last month or so. I don't usually re-read books, but it was easier than delving into a bunch of new stories, if you know what I mean. Anyway, so glad you're back! :)
Glad to see you back!! Also, middle grade writing dissent have t be bad/boring. e.g.: Wonder by R.J.Palacio. Do read if you haven't. A very heartwarming story.
Uh oh. The Stand becomes more and more fantasy as you go along. I love it, but honestly to me it reads like two different novels - first you get the pandemic story and then you get a pretty traditional good vs. evil fantasy. Excited to hear what you think when you get to the end. Although I just realized I read the unedited version (and seriously, King needs an editor, so... my mistake) and not sure how different they are
You are back :) All the missing girls was so decent I totally agree with your assessment it surprised me in a good way. If you haven't read grey sister its a must finish read absolutely loved that one. I almost hit my reading goal so I am just going to keep plugging away and see how many more I can finish!
I still haven't read any Stephen King books! They really intimidate me, because well... they're bloody bricks hahah! So happy you're enjoying The Stand!
I was worried, I'm glad you're okay!! The story of the baby coughing in your face x) with a book about a super flu x) you're completely in the book! I really should start on Brandon Sanderson! I only read a novella, liked it, but was not completely blown away. It might be because of the format! I really would like to read Yuval Noah Harari! I have Sapiens and Homo Deus, but this new one seems so good!! Wish you great reads for the rest of the year!! Can't wait to see your TBR!
So glad to see you back, and glad to know you are feeling better. Do you ever read books like Crazy Rich Asians? What I call “fluffy” books...easy reads. It is what I have for my book club now....thought it would not be good, but kind of fun. I have not seen the movie.
I just finished Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep... I love the movies, but the Book is superior to both. The movies do not spoil some important aspects of the novel, the choices made to adapt the story to the screen where necessary. Which is comical, considering the current complaint is that the movies are boring. I found the messages about crabs in the basket within the slave (android) Community poignant, but true. I think within the African American community the book makes androids relatable. Feel Better & good luck finishing your reads.
I really love the Legion novellas, they kinda remind me of watching a TV show, where you have a smaller story in a single episode and a larger overarching plot between the episodes. That said, they do really leave u craving more
I think that there was something wrong with your audiobook for The Good Daughter because when I listened to it on audio it was perfect. There was no whispering or anything...that's so weird! So glad that you are back.
Maybe ti was a different one? Maybe? lol I remember a specific part where there was whispering and then an actual scream.... my ears definitely remember that!
UK readers, I highly recommend checking out an app "Libby". You can borrow books, audibooks etc inside the app, and they have a huge variety of books and genres. You do need a library card, but your local branch would be enough to access the entire library online
@@BookswithEmilyFox I didn't realise it was global! It's so cool! Maybe you can put it in the description box, since it's not exclusive to your library and anyone can use it (at least anyone in Canada and the UK).
Hi there Emily. How are you doing? During last month, I finished listening to the last Harry Potter book which was awesome. After that, I tried listening to a YA book called Stalking Jack the Ripper and I had to dnt that book because I could not connect with any of the characters and when I put it down I never thought about it again. After that I started reading and fell in love with the author Kristin Hannah who wrote the Great Alone. This book really made me feel very deeply for the characters and it is about a girl and her family who move to Alaska during the 1970s and 1980s. I also tried to listen to the book the Mermaid and Mrs. Hancock and I have had to dnt this book too because it moved so slowly and again I when I put the book down, I never thought about the characters or story ever again. So, right now I am re listening to the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and for Nonfiction November I am listening to George Lucas A Life by Brian Jay Jones. I love the whole concept of the Force. I have also loved reading the book versions of the Star Wars movies. See ya. Julie.
I'm also reading The Obelisk Gate now - thanks to you I bought the whole series at the book fair. It's a pretty interesting trilogy, drags a little but there's something in it.
First of all: I've missed you. Second of all: you look so beautiful in this video. like, really really gorgeous. wow. Last but not least: i want to go to the library to see if there is murakami's books. i'm in a mood for that. i have a book to read for work, i got four books from the library i'm in a mook for fantasy, so three of them are fantasy books; the pther one is sci-fi, just cause i love me some sci-fi. glad you're back, and hope you're ok!
Kids, babies, in particular, are just full of germs. My own baby, a week after he was born, while I was holding him sneezed into my eye (He wasn't sick, just a newborn. Newborn babies sneeze a lot to clear the breathing passages.) and I got a cold.
I just finished then she was gone on audio, i felt the same, got a little bored with it but i did end up enjoying it. Maybe it's your flu messing with you but just in case: it's the mum who 10 years later meets a man who has a daughter that looks like her missing daughter 😊 Good to see you back
As for non fiction - I started yesterday Lost Connections by Johann Hari - and it's a very good read when you feel sick or depressed. It's about personal, scientific and social perspectives on depression (including antidepressants) so it's very informative, but at the same time comforting as you feel your thoughts getting sorted out while reading. Highly recommend!
With “then she was gone” it’s actually the missing girls mother who is in the relationship with the guy who has a daughter is like the missing girl. That might help you understand and enjoy the book a little better. I enjoyed it x
I finished Eat Sweat Play by Anna Kessel this month, non-fiction, and I can't recommend it enough. She has a very personal style, which fits her journalistic and anecdotal structure, but it really motivated me to reconnect to my body and movement and not see going to the gym as a punishment. Also, I started Cold Welcome by Elizabeth Moon, who is way underrated. It's military sci-fi and I have no idea about all this military jargon, but it's good to try something new from time to time. And she's really good with character building.
I agree about Karin Slaughter’s books-they’re not for everyone. I really love her books. I’m a fan, but they’re basically as violent as it gets. I didn’t have that experience at all with the audiobook of The Good Daughter. I wonder if it was the copy your library had. Mine was perfectly fine. 🤷🏻♀️ I’d definitely recommend the audiobook.
I'm currently reading Jack of Hearts (and Other Parts) by L. C. Rosen and I'm loving it, it's both entertaining and emotional and I'm exactly in the right mood for that right now.
Can you do a video of your top 10 books of all time or talk about your 5 star reads? Because honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever seen you give a book 5 stars. What books do you really like?
I clicked so fast! I hated All the missing girls. I’m not into mystery or thriller but I keep trying with no luck. I’m also reading the obelisk gate and I feel like the fifth season was better but I do want to finish the series.
I love domestic thrillers! I might give All The Missing Girls a go ^^ Karin Slaughter's books always sound very intriguing to me, I need to read something by her! aaaah also Sanderson's books, they have been on my tbr for SO long! great video =)
I read the Stand earlier this year and just finished Salems Lot for October. Stephen King himself has said he has problems with his endings. The Stand has 3 (or 4 endings) and I really liked 1 of them, still a good book and I get what you're saying about the fantasy aspect, but I could overlook it because I'd read other SK books with more of a fantasy influence with The Stand it feels really grounded and not like rampant fantasy for fantasies sake. I feel like it couldve been cut out or changed and the characters couldve easily arrived at the same places.
Hello Emily, always so nice to hear your recommandations! If you like stories which take place in weird towns, you should try to read "American Elsewhere" by Robert Jackson Bennett. It's a big book and kind of slow paste but the writing is really good and you are wondering what the heck is going on in a weird and awkward little town. Lots of scifi/fantasy stuff going on too. If you still read in French you should pick up Maxime Chattam's new novel, "Le Signal". He reminds me a lot of Stephen King and this book particularly is quite terrifying! Happy reading 😉
Completely agree with the YA books get way too high ratings, and other, older books, or classics not getting high enough ratings on Goodreads. I usually read the written reviews to make up my mind, and I rate books that I've read for myself to keep track of how much I liked the book, but otherwise the rating system is not enough.
I’m reading the last book in Elena Ferrantes’s Napoli series. It is SO good! I think you would like the series too. It deals with being a woman in the world of men. There’s lots of relationship stuff but it is in no way romantic.
Hi Emily! Have you read all the books you’ve bought? I have soooo many books I’ve bought over the years and I haven’t read even 20% of them. And I keep buying more :| I know it’s nothing to be proud of but that’s the true story :/
I so agree about Karin Slaughter. I’ve read a LOT of thrillers and also obviously violent/graphic ones and I am not one to be easily disturbed. But Pretty Girls by her was just extremely disgusting and so distasteful. Also, there was literally no interesting plot, only those snuff parts and I really really hated it! I will never pick up a book by her again!
Sinah TaLi agreed! There are barely even any plot twists in it... once the mystery is set up, basically it’s exactly what it looks like, it just takes the characters forever to accept it.
Missed you 😃 I read the bus on Thursday by Shirley Barrett description on book is Bridget Jones meets the exorcist in twin peaks 😃☺️ and I’m listening to Michael Crichton the andromeda strain I haven’t red a Stephen king in years but I keep collecting them
What an unpopular opinion on City of Ghost and The Good Daughter. I had to DNF The Good Daughter since it was a little boring to me, and about City of Ghost, no one on UA-cam had ever said a bad thing about this book before you. Because it is so hyped up and it’s reviews are so well, I was not interested. But because you don’t like it, I might consider reading this book in a near future 😊
I haven't seen any reviews on it yet (with travel and flu I have some catching up to do!) but I'm really surprised the reviews are all positive! Unless someone LOVES Middle Grade and isn't super familiar with VS... I'm shocked lol
Do people actually say The Stand is the best book ever? I mean it’s one of the better King’s books with a great villain and one of the best pandemic/apocalyptic books, but it’s not the best book ever. And yeah it’s hard to escape fantasy elements in King’s stories even in an apocalyptic book because everything is fantastically connected through a magical tower. So you can’t really get more fantasy than that. Haha I’d say unless it’s a really standalone story, which is rare, just classify all his stories as fantasy/horror with some sprinkles of sci-fi.
Yay I'm glad you liked All the Missing Girls! I have it but haven't read it yet because the reviews kind of put me off. I need to hear about your trip!!! Especially the visit to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter! Let me live through you lol!
BookswithEmilyFox my best friend lives in Orlando and I’m like if I was you I would seriously buy a pass to go there as much as humanly possible!! She doesn’t like HP but since I’ve known her my entire life I can look past it. Barely... 😜 When I go visit her she will go with me and that all that matters lol. Did you enjoy your cruise? My family wants to do one together but it kinda freaks me out although sometimes the beautiful pics make me want to reconsider and try it.
I’m also half way through The Stand and while I really enjoy it, the ‘fantasy’ elements happening are also throwing me off. I haven’t picked it up in a while because I’ve been reading Into the Drowning Deep as well so once I’m finished, I’ll get back into The Stand. Maybe I should finish it on audio 🤔
I listened to the audiobook of all the missing girls and The good daughter. My thoughts on both are right in line with yours. How was your trip? Are you a cruise person now? And Harry Potter world?! I feel like you could do a review on that on this channel and it would fit. Or maybe that’s just me being selfish because I love how you review all things.
I’m from Maine and have always been a huge reader and until this year hasn’t read any Stephen King 😲 but I’ve read 11/22/63 and currently reading The Outsider. One of my coworkers who loves Stephen King really wants me to read The Stand but the size scares me and I’m not a huge sci-fi reader so I’m nervous. Let me know what you think!
im sorry but legion was a bad book, it never took off for me. I finished it in one reading but it never left me wanting more and it was very childish for me
Dear, lovely Emily. Please, make my dream come true, and read these three books: - The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle (Haruki Murakami, 1995) - One Hundred Years of Solitude [Cién Años de Soledad] (Gabriel García Márquez, 1967) - The Time of the Hero [La Ciudad y los Perros] (Mario Vargas Llosa, 1962) Best wishes, One of your fans. :D
So I caught a bad cold but I'm back!! My brain isn't fully there yet though haha
I'm glad you're feeling better now!
Oh please get some more rest & please feel better!
Yes!! My feed has missed you.
Once I started to read a nonfiction book about pandemics in a bus full of people during winter flue season... It was a mistake😅 So many people were sneezing and coughing I felt so paranoid, oh my god!! 😂😂😂
Literally paused the tv as soon as I saw your video. Missed youuuuuu
I did the same! I've been checking UA-cam every day in the hope there'd be a new video! Missed this!
my favourite booktuber is back....
It's an in-joke among Constant Readers that people get the Flu while reading The Stand. 🤣🤣
Tbh it's so long that you have quite a big chance of getting sick during the 3 months it takes to read it :P
Came here to say it is impossible to the the stand and NOT get sick
BookswithEmilyFox lol I read it for class so I only had 2 weeks, but I still got sick! It’s cursed.
Welcome back i missed your videos! I’m counting on your reviews because you’re the only booktuber i’m on the same page with and your reviews and star ratings never dissapointed me when i went into a book. Hope you’re feeling more jolly these days, wishing you a full recovery 🤗
Just jumped from your Sephora haul to this 😊
im addicted to your videos and i was waiting for a new one 😍 thank god its here

So happy you are back. Really missed you.

Read: Carrie. Short and easy to follow. His 1st published novel moves at an increased pace and draws you in the story seamlessly.
Or The Long Walk! It's my favorite by him so far!
green mile is amazing, and it was originally released as a series of novellas, so its one that is easy to take in sections!
Start with one of the short story collections. Stephen King creepiness in smaller bites.
Read the girl who loved tom gordon, the shining, the long walk.... theres many shorter books by him!
YASSSSSsS new video!!!!
I’m so happy you’re back and hope you feel better
I was worried, I'm glad you're okay!!
The story of the baby coughing in your face x) with a book about a super flu x) you're completely in the book!
I really should start on Brandon Sanderson! I only read a novella, liked it, but was not completely blown away. It might be because of the format!
I really would like to read Yuval Noah Harari! I have Sapiens and Homo Deus, but this new one seems so good!!
Wish you great reads for the rest of the year!! Can't wait to see your TBR!
We missed you, Emily!
It was also about 48 hours and I listened to it last year and it took forever. I didn't realize the last stand was exactly the same.
I think that there was something wrong with your audiobook for The Good Daughter because when I listened to it on audio it was perfect. There was no whispering or anything...that's so weird! So glad that you are back.
Maybe ti was a different one? Maybe? lol
I remember a specific part where there was whispering and then an actual scream.... my ears definitely remember that!
UK readers, I highly recommend checking out an app "Libby". You can borrow books, audibooks etc inside the app, and they have a huge variety of books and genres. You do need a library card, but your local branch would be enough to access the entire library online
That's what I use!

Keep up the great videos
I'm listening to a 57 hour audiobook so I sympathise with you. I have many, many hours left to read!!

Funny enough we are reading this book in a readalong and all of us are sick lol (it happened right after we started reading too) lol
Haha
I’d say unless it’s a really standalone story, which is rare, just classify all his stories as fantasy/horror with some sprinkles of sci-fi.
I only read 2 books in October and was partially through 3-4 others, I just could not get through. It was a rough month for me too
I'm early... Yayy!! Missed you Emily! 😘
where did you get the chair you’re always sitting in it looks soooo comfortable
Yay I'm glad you liked All the Missing Girls! I have it but haven't read it yet because the reviews kind of put me off.
I need to hear about your trip!!! Especially the visit to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter! Let me live through you lol!
Honestly I wish I lived in orlando haha I love that section of the park... just the ambiance and butter beer was worth everything lol
I'm glad I'm not alone feeling like this!
I LOVE fantasy but for some reason, I don't love it in Apocalyptic books :/
I listened to the audiobook of all the missing girls and The good daughter. My thoughts on both are right in line with yours.
How was your trip? Are you a cruise person now? And Harry Potter world?! I feel like you could do a review on that on this channel and it would fit. Or maybe that’s just me being selfish because I love how you review all things.
It was fun, maybe not and OBVIOUSLY HP IS MY THING :D
I might just mention that in a future Q&A!
Read The Long Walk! It's my fav and pretty short :D
QUEEN
Ah I just realized why I don't like Karin books too, same reasons :D
They're way too close to reality lol They freak me out and not in a good way!
Goodreads ratings are hard to judge coz everyone rates differently
I agree about Karin Slaughter as an author! Incredibly perverse in my opinion. Couldn't even get halfway through Pretty Girls.
You should read the Sirantha Jax series by Ann Aguirre! It's a strong female sci-fi book series with political intruiges and lots of action!
Notification squad❤️ I’m so happy❤️❤️❤️
Missed you hehe
Have you read The Weight of Silence by Heather Gudenkauf? 😊
Je viens de trouver The Stand à l'Armée du Salut! C'était une méchante brique, j'espère que je vais aimer.
Yay new videos! Tu m'as manqué :)
im sorry but legion was a bad book, it never took off for me. I finished it in one reading but it never left me wanting more and it was very childish for me
Finally 💖💖💖
💖💖💖💖💖 Finally!
Hated "The Stand"
Dear, lovely Emily.
Please, make my dream come true, and read these three books:
- The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle (Haruki Murakami, 1995)
- One Hundred Years of Solitude [Cién Años de Soledad] (Gabriel García Márquez, 1967)
- The Time of the Hero [La Ciudad y los Perros] (Mario Vargas Llosa, 1962)
Best wishes,
One of your fans.
:D
I DNF Alloy of Law. I enjoyed coming back to the world, but I hated the female character
