I saw an english brown turkey once, it sounded sophisticated.
I have a request, when you mention other fig varieties could you please put their names below in the information area. I would love to find some of these varieties you mentioned that taste like caramelized peaches but I am not sure how to spell them and It can be hard to understand some of the names some times when it is not a 'normal' word, like a name. Thank you!
All my figs taste great when perfectly ripe. My brown turkey and Texas ever bearing taste like brown sugar. I’m not sure why so many people hate them.
My Texas Everbearing is likewise brown sugary but I suspect it's a mislabeled Celeste. The figs are tan on the outside and amber inside. What color is your Texas Ever bearing when ripe?
Wonder if it depends where you live and your soil conditions etc. my Texas everbearing is delicious but my CA brown turkey isn't very good. The CA brown turkey hasn't really had any flavor at all. I just planted an Olympian, hopefully, we'll have some figs next year.
The Brown Turkey in my mothers garden is over a decade old, it grows so well, it puts out two figs per node on some occations, air layering it now.
My 4 yr. olympian TC is also leggy and unproductive. Hopefully when it matures it will be better. Thanks for sharing.
Giving this an 8 or higher when it is ripe puts it in the same category as VdB and RdB according to your typical scoring system. Do you agree with that? I’m asking because I have been looking for a larger fig that actually tastes good, and this is a variety that I’ve kicked around but have stayed away due to its lack of complexity. I like really strong, jammy figs. Curious on your take on its complexity.
Hey Ross, this man deserves your response. Thank you.
Wow a different take for the test and complexity of Olympian, is this the same Olympian, collectors and small backyard growers kick around?
I unfortunately bought one, with a BT days before before I start learning about figs.
Hopefully the heat her in southern California zone 10a and long ripening time can improve the taste as you mentioned. This is why I live your videos. Thanks you Ross.
LaRedek is supposed to be Hardy but if you look at the zone it’s from and the historical cold temps I believe whoever first claimed it’s cold hardiness was looking at Celsius temps and thought they were in Fahrenheit.
I have a fig tree that is almost exactly like that. leaf pattern, fruit shape, taste, interior color. The only difference between this one and mine is that the figs turn black when ripening. i posted it on ourfigs but got no responses :( guess ill call it an EBT for now
I am curious what your favorite English Brown Turkey variety will be!
i have one but mine ripens a little more purple. i got it from lowes and its covered in figs right now. it had 2 breba fruit that fell off. havent tasted it yet.
Thank you😊
Do you bring all your figs trees in? Or wrap them with a burlap & leave outside? I live in upstate NY,ty
So Olympian is similar to Sweet George kinda like MBVS is similar to Hardy Chicago? I got SG in its 2nd year and I loved the few figs I got off of it in my 3g potted plant here in Houston. Thanks for the vid!
Which fig has the most peachy flavour and is a better fig overall, Olympian or Texas peach? Thank you to whoever replies! 😀
I'm wondering too! lol
Ross, I'm confused by the terminology you're using. You're saying that the Olympian is a variety of English Brown Turkey--but I thought English Brown Turkey itself was a "variety." How can there be a variety of a variety? I hope my question makes sense. (I just bought an Olympian fig for my collection and now I'm thinking--"What? This is just a Brown Turkey?!") Thanks.
Olympian is the same thing as English Brown Turkey. However the genetics may be slightly different due to adaptations over time.
ross doesnt look like mine. i have southern bt. the leaves are diffrent. is that a laradek?
Awesome
I imagine California brown turkey can also be good if you grow it yourself
It's about average in terms of flavor.
can you comment on the hardiness of olympian?
im in uk, i got lots of figs in 3 years
Desert bloom on new wood or old wood
Someone found me in Olympia Washington once. They said they sent samples of me to the USDA as well. The results say I'm unique too. Plant life son.
That's hilarious! PLANT LIFE SHUN!!!
What is SWD?
spotted wing drosophila. Little bugs that cause the figs to sour…..
orjinal adı bardacık Türk yemişidir
Not the same fig, brown turkey has a honey taste and olympian is peachy. You got scammed! 😂
