Het Nederlandse televisieprogramma "Countdown" was van 1976 t/m 1993 “Europe’s Number 1 Rock Show” en werd uitgezonden bij Veronica. Later werd het programma ook uitgezonden in het buitenland en was het op z'n hoogtepunt in meer dan 20 landen op televisie te zien.
Gedurende deze 17 jaar muziekgeschiedenis zijn er opnames gemaakt met talloze internationale sterren, zoals Paul McCartney, David Bowie, Tina Turner, Janet Jackson, Stevie Wonder, The Rolling Stones, George Harrison, U2, The Police, Eric Clapton, Bruce Springsteen, Lenny Kravitz, Depeche Mode, New Order, Whitney Houston, Duran Duran, R.E.M., Frankie Goes To Hollywood, The Cure, Run DMC, Cyndi Lauper, Iron Maiden, New Kids On The Block, LL Cool J.

Het Countdown archief is vrijwel helemaal compleet en sinds 2017 eigendom van het Amerikaanse Reelin’ In The Years Productions (David Peck - reelinintheyears.com/) en Double 2 Hilversum (Jan Douwe Kroeske - www.double2bv.nl). It was not their song, their genre or what they liked or wanted to do.
It became a world hit and the only song they are known for, which was not what they wanted.
So it broke the band.

Damn, sometimes I hated the days of my youth in the 80s, but now I realize they were still better than today.
The sad thing about music today is that its still out there somewhere. People have just become so self absorbed that everything put out now is just the dust on the floor of decades like the 80's. This song is still just as incredible today as it was when it first came out. You cant say that about ONE song like this in the past ten+ years. You cant!
Nope… I’d say some 90s were still good, 2000s too like maybe Savage Garden and Faith Hill, but nothing like this. I was born in 1990, and probably biased because I grow up in my mom’s salon listening to 70s/80s/90s and nothing compares to these years in the past 20. I wish music like this would come out again.
I hear this sometimes, but it is not true. One factor is, that you were young at that time and many people stay with the music when they were young. May be you can remember when in the 1980s old people liked music from the 50s, 60s or older and they didn´t like your music. In the 2020s you can find a lot of good songs. The medium is different, you have too much choice, but there are beautiful songs out there which are modern. Probably you don´t find them because you prefer staying with the old songs and the memories you have with them. In 20/30 years you will find people stating, that the 2020s was the best and the now modern songs in 2050 are crap. Everything repeats, believe me.

@@truthserum9157 I´m always cautious about people writing me I don´t understand this and that without knowing me. I know a ton of young people only hearing "modern" music. Many of them do not miss your music, why should they? I´m 57 and I loved music my whole life, so I know from the mid 70s to today a lot. Of course I have special memories on some songs when I was young, most related with persons I met or hang up. It is a combination song to what happened and this is strong and the reason why many relate to the music when they were young.
When I asked my grandparents in the 1970s, their favourite songs were from the 1930s and guess what: They stated the same like you today on the music decades ago. It seems, you are quite narrow minded.

I think she's actually singing as opposed to lip syncing. But I don't think we're hearing the actual performance. I think we're hearing the studio version overlayed on a live performance.

Not at all. World poverty was still high then (it's down dramatically), nuclear war was a real daily threat, and everyone but straight, white, christian, cisgender males were heavily oppressed. And that's just a bit of how awful the world was before the 2010's. The world keeps getting better, with rights and freedoms expanding as moral and social progress marches on, even with recent far right fascist movements trying to take us back the the 80's, 50's, 1850's.
