I feel that if you are able to take care of as many cats as possible and have an extremely large house, you should do so. I've had cats for 35 years and worked with animals and a lot of various jobs for 15 years. I know one woman who is the greatest cat savior I have ever known. She's got about 20 cats, two feral cats in her garage (which she cannot touch), and she's got one dog! She lives in a large house and she tries to find homes for these cats. They are all healthy and she is able to care for them and all their needs monetarily. She has many Facebook friends and once helped save an injured horse that was running down a beach in Indonesia! I only have one cat now and I'm fine with that because I have health problems. Need to concentrate on my own health first. I unfortunately have lost three cats in a year and a half. I miss them dearly, and know I will be reunited with all the animals I've ever had once we cross over the Rainbow Bridge 🌈🐾😻 I am also very much in support of feral colonies. I recently read that there is one cat that is estimated to be 20 years old!
Our cat of 20+ passed away in February. I wasn’t sure if or when we would ever get another one. One day in late October, a small cat showed up at our door. He adopted us and it has been great to have a cat again in the house 🐈. Great advise for anyone thinking about getting a cat/kitten for their home 👍
Dude you are awesome! Finally someone that gets it! One thing you forgot to mention. Make sure you spay and neuter, so you don't make kittens you can't take care of or have to find homes for. My mom passed away in 2003, and my husband and I purchaesd my childhood home. My mom had adopted several cats, one kitten, and my siblings had left her with their cats after they got married. After my siblings took back their cats, We were left with 5 cats and one kitten. Four needed to be spayed right away. 2 were adopted by other people. As the years went by the older ones passed away and I was left with the kitten to raise. That kitten lived to be 18 and just passed away a year ago. Now my home has no cats but I do miss them. I had two knee replacements this year so I have been waiting to adopt until I am well enough to take care of a kitten and clean out a litter box. I miss having a sweet cat to take care of but it is better to wait until I can take care of it. And when I adopt it will be one!
I have 9. And I take very good care of them, yes it's expensive, and a little crazy to pet everyone enough everyday, cuz it's never enough petting lol! My house doesn't stink, I clean everyday, and clean litter every few hours, vaccume sometimes twice a day, at least once a day tho. I make it work financially, everyone is fed, I stock up on extra food when I have extra money and if it's on sale, and I use a discount vet clinic to get them checkups, and medical treatment, and got them spayed and neutered (Yes, I have male and female cats). So for me it works, but 9 is definetly my limit, I don't think I could have anymore than 9. Great video, informative, people should evaluate their financial situation, and size of home, and if they can really handle multiple cats before jumping in head first. Have a good day! ❤
Thanks DEV. I have 1 cat and a very small home, this is what I can afford, I put away money every month to make sure to have emergency vet expenses. Wish I could rescue 1 more but 1 will have to do. 💕 This little girl so glad to have her.
Only get as many as you can afford is my motto. I used to say 2 is my limit. Then God sent me a 3rd. Today I have one cat & one dog that I raised together.
I would also add that kittens are adorable but don't stay that way! They become cats and the novelty of cuteness wears away thus many cats are taken to shelters, abandoned along roads to become strays, and unfortunately worse. Also, cats live a long time; I have one going on 20. To put it into perspective, that's a 1/3 of my life! And as they age, they need more attention, love, care, and understanding (hearing, arthritis, chronic kidney disease, hyperthyroidism, cognitive difficulties, constipation, litter box issues, accidents outside litter box, inability to groom and clean themselves(especially in the rear, so you become the one who has to do it on a daily basis) and many other issues. Finally, they begin to have mounting medical needs, which require more vet visits, medications, prescription foods, etc. So....owning, caring, and loving just one cat is a huge responsibility and commitment.🐈🐈⬛❤🙂😺😻😼😽❣❣❣❣
Yes I had 3 kitties for a little while but recently one of mine had passed away. 😢Yes 3 are a bit of work but it was definitely worth it to me; although I probably won’t get another one. It does get a bit pricey.
Hi so true and good advice well sad if you don't got patience and to busy don't do it for it's true thanks for keeping it real in a fun way but yet sincerely about thanks for caring about those cats and you know they thank you also bless your heart and soul for caring in general may peace be with you all 😸🙏😇
The algorithm just introduced me to your content so this is a very late reply, but I had to say…I love your sense of humor, dedication to cats, and your educational messages. Your boys are awesome! You touch on very important education for cat owners and would be cat owners. Peace and love, friend.
When I said I feed feral cats twice I meant twice a day. They show up outside my window about 7am and 7 pm wish I could let them in but I live in a small space can’t afford to get my 15 year old indoor cat sick and don’t wanna upset her😻I feel so sad seeing those poor unloved ferals. If I called to have them picked up we all know the outcome would be death so I buy worm meds and I put my cats antibiotics in the food along with vitamins to try and keep them as healthy as I possibly can. Wish I could have them all😢
You take an animal into your home, even just one---you best have resource $$ beyond food and litter. At least sock away some $$ for an annual exam and any basics like regular flea meds and annual shots; spay/neuter. And if you can afford a pet insurance plan, do it. It's no joke. If folks can't do it the way it should be done fully, don't take an animal into your home. And for outdoor cat caregivers, it's a responsibility as well.
I own 3, but I’m also a vet technician and can spot even subtle health issues when they arise. Plus, you want to be able to give personal time and love to each cat. Any more than 2 or 3 is not fair to them. They can also get pricey if you really love and care for them. Just spent $1500 on an MRI for a cat with a head tilt. Found out it wasn’t an inner ear problem, it was a brain tumor.
I haven't had a chance to watch the whole thing yet but I saw your face Dev and the topic of Cats so I subscribed. I think you are discussing a lot of important things here, plus you are a man, and men can care about cats, the stereotype that that isn't cool is changing and it really helps with people like you 👌😊👍🐈🌸♥️ You have to balance out help, hoarding, loving, hurting when it comes to all animals for sure
Thank you so much "fur" saluting us community cat caring purr-sons! And you speak so much common sense and wisdom that we long time cat carers know so well.... I sure NEVER asked for so many community cats, but i wound up with em anyway, and they are all part of my true family -- and i guess my destiny! And i consider as my extended family all others who do this worthy work! Thank you for these great videos, each one is both insightful, entertaining and of course a-mew-sing!
Im down to 1 now the last of the old timers past last summer he was 22 and ive had him since he was 7weeks. I moved into this house with 3, , 10 years ago had these kittys their entire lives, kitty number 4 moved in 4 years ago thank God she is still young. Gouse seems empty with only one.
I live on a farm and have several "barn cats". While they aren't feral, they are not pets either! They are here to catch & kill mice and other rodents, and they have adequate food, water, and shelter. I wish I did not have as many, but they are here because have a safe place to live...
In answer to your question, to me, being on a fixed-income, I have to imagine the worst--that is, what if both were seriously ill at the same time? You ask it in this video. Budget. That's my bottom line. Good points all.
Okay this sub-story has been up for a while I kept passing it by I thought what the hell finally I do have three cats myself so let's see what's going on hey I don't know what day it is or whatever out there God bless you God Bless America and you know just have a good good good day amen now back to the story
I adopted one cat & were I live that's all we are allow to have, but that's okay because this is her home & she may not like another cat, so she is happy without another one
I have one cat and she’s my baby girl. I treat her like she’s my child…she’s spoiled. I will say this everytime I go to Petco they have the cutest kittens but I can’t bring myself to adopt another one because I know Rosey Posey will get jealous. In the future we may get a 2nd one but right now we are just going to have Rosey maybe once we get a house and not in an apartment we can get another cat.
I got 4, and I treat them like my kids it’s responsibility and I love it.
Good to hear! Welcome to the Channel😸
Only 4 ? I have 13 and they are all rescues and they are my children
