I'm going to save people time and make this statement right now- this is the pinnacle of rifle performance. You can chase the performance dragon all you want, you can buy a KAC SR 15, you can grab an all ambi ADAC or LMT lower, you can dump endless amounts of money experimenting and trying to tweak your builds to get marginal increases in performance- but what this guy has right here butts right up against the diminishing returns aspect of ARs. Anything beyond this is hubris, and you can still perform fantastically with less. Great setup, good video. Hope to see more from you soon.

As someone with KAC and LMT rifles along with some other “Gucci” rifles. I second this statement. There’s definitely a point of diminishing return with high end rifles and accessories, he did a great job of maximizing cost to benefit with this rifle!

Thank you for the informative vid! I have an almost identical rifle setup, a 14.5" Geissele Super Duty with a 1-8 LPVO, and my next big purchase plan is a suppressor for it. I have been torn between the Socom Mini or the full-sized version; I had the opportunity to try the full-sized one and felt it was satisfactory on weight/length, but the ideal optimization of the Mini for this barrel length has kept me from committing to one yet.
Online sources seem split 50/50 on Socom vs Socom Mini for 14.5"s so I greatly appreciate the analysis of the Mini + practical footage of it in use on a GPR build. And it looks cool, which is obviously the most important detail.

    • @Not_very_grey
      @Not_very_grey  Рік тому +2

Here’s the way I look at it. The mini is going to give you everything you need out of a suppressor. Most important being flash reduction. But the full sized will do everything better, except it’s going to be longer and heavier. If the length and the weight don’t bother you then maybe the full sized is the right choice. I have short ARs and long ARs. I use the full sized Rc2 on the short ones and the mini on my long ARs. I have both so I’m not missing anything but if I could only choose one, I would probably get the full sized if I’m completely honest. But if you plan on getting both eventually, then start with the mini. When you get an sbr then get a regular Rc2 for it. I’ll more than likely do a video comparing both of them on a 14.5 setup because people seem to have a hard time making a decision between the 2 and I totally get it.

Get the huxworks 556k can or the Griffin 556 HRT dual lock. Both are good flow thru designs
Only advantage to the surefire at this point is clout on the firing line/ range

@@Not_very_grey I've heard this before but I havent seen any sciency videos or pew science info showing this to be true -- if you could direct me to your data points I'd be greatful.
My feeling was that the huxworx 3D can may have a little less longevity but as companies focus on the flow thru as an industry standard and produce a stainless construction like the Griffin HRT dual lock that uses the same flow thru helix design would result in a stronger but heavier can.
That being said, for now I use my M4SD-K can and breathe in all that lead poison. Smells like...freedom.

PSA isn't the best sure. But they definitely are absolutely reliable. That being said you should always check and inspect a new firearm and make everything is locktighted, not loose, and alignedproperly. That goes with any gun from any manufacturer. If you know what to look for then any "budget" AR gun can serve you well if properly maintained.

love how you explained why you went with the mini instead of full size. bc im in the same boat right now but with the saker 556 and the saker 556k. im torn on which i want for my 14.5. it just bugs me the shorter one will be just a tad louder than the longer one and im wondering if thats even a thing to worry about as a trade off and also more recoil being that its lighter. so much overthinking going on right now in my head

    • @Not_very_grey

So for me, sound is not what I’m after. It’s muzzle signature reduction as a whole. On the Rc2 mini vr the regular Rc2. I use both cans and I honestly don’t hear much of a difference. If you were to take a decibel reader then yeah you would definitely see a difference. But all in all, the full sized will always be better in every way….. except for size haha. My logic with the mini was “it does a good enough job on a 14.5 in every parameter I want a suppresser to be good at, and it’s shorter, so less weight, and less length” so that’s what I went with. If being a couple inches longer doesn’t bother you then by all means get the full sized.

Supersonic crack exists no matter what can you pick. The flowthru cans appear to be cleaner and less extra gas to the gun and shooter. Everything else will seem like a legacy design in a couple years.

    Nice set up.
I gave up on an lpvo (I tried the top four brands) and went to an eotech exps3-4 with the 4 dot bdc and a g45 5x magnifier.
I tried the LPVOs for a couple years but couldn’t get the same efficiency with them as with my eotech, even at distance.
It sucks because I am a long range shooter and love traditional scopes more than red dots. But it is what it is.
Edited to add. 100% spot on with your gas length rant. People under gassing their shtf guns is dumb as eff in my opinion. It’s like people putting comps on their 9mm duty pistol. They don’t realize what they are doing to the reliability. Some ammo is just underpowered.

It is the 1.7. It’s high, but definitely not to high. I have the pmm red dot mount, it actually sets quite a bit lower than the one badger offers. Pmm made it specifically for the badger mount for that reason. Personally I dint worry about hight, I worry more about how useful it will be for night vision personally. You can also get a cheek riser to help if it’s something you just can’t get accustomed to. The larue cheek riser is my favorite and it doesn’t get in the way of the charging handle, it only works with a ctr stock though
