NEW 2025 VW Golf R Variant Wagon Revealed

Volkswagen has finally unveiled the new Golf R, following the release of its technical specifications a few weeks ago. The high-performance hatchback now has a wagon variant in Europe, inheriting all the advanced features of its less practical sibling. The turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine under the hood has been upgraded to produce 329 horsepower, a 14-horsepower increase. The torque remains steady at 310 pound-feet. The new Golf R Variant can accelerate from zero to 62 miles per hour in just 4.8 seconds, making it a tenth of a second faster than its predecessor. With the optional Performance Package, the top speed increases to 167 miles per hour, while the standard version is limited to 155 miles per hour.
This makes the new Golf R Variant the fastest current Volkswagen, alongside the Arteon R Shooting Brake. The Arteon wagon, although not available in the United States, will continue production until 2026. The Golf R hatchback shares the same top speed but is slightly faster to 62 miles per hour, achieving the sprint in 4.6 seconds due to its lighter weight.
The updated Golf R models feature new lights from the regular Golf Mk8.5 and an illuminated Volkswagen badge. They also come with new 19-inch forged wheels that weigh 17.6 pounds each. Named after the village where Volkswagen R is headquartered, the Warmenau wheel is about 20 percent lighter than the equivalent alloy wheel, wrapped in 235/35 tires, and offers improved brake cooling.
Both the hatchback and the long-roof model come exclusively with all-wheel drive, a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and torque vectoring. They also include a dedicated drift mode and a Special driving mode tailored for the Nürburgring track, available with the Performance Package.
Europe also gets a Golf R Black Edition with dark accents, larger 19-inch wheels, and the Performance Package. Volkswagen plans to expand the Golf R portfolio with a more track-focused Clubsport variant, likely to serve as an all-wheel-drive equivalent of the GTI Clubsport. Unfortunately, the Golf R wagon and the Black Edition hatch will not be available in the United States. The details for the 2025 Golf R in the United States are yet to be released, but the manual gearbox will no longer be an option.

Had the Golf 7 R variant.Sold it for a TUCSON hybrid 250 HP. Dont like the 8 series...awful.
