  • It is official, Walleye LOVE ned rigs.... Like I mean LOVE, LOVE!! It was a straight crush afternoon of Walleye fishing. This will be a technique I will be using a lot more going forward.

    The ned and drop shot catch everything. Those two along with a small swimbait (I personally love the 2.8" kietech) catch just about everything.

    Love it!! I bought a ton of ned rig stuff over the winter and am pumped to use it. I was thinking smallies at first of course but really cool you can get eyes with them as well!!

    Started throwing the neg rigs around 7 years ago for largemouth in the Illinois river. My first Saugers were off it and it became a walleye/Sauger bait quickly

    nice vid, thanks, just caught some dragonfly nymphs the other day, i think that's what the ned rig is imitating, probably imitating the action quite nicely, dragon nymphs have a kind of water jet propulsion

    So nice to see the potential of the that lake, I fish the same lake all the time and nice to see different way to catch them I usally fish off shore sometime on boat when I get opportunity to, keep up the great vids! Huge local fan!!

    Clayton have you tried the zman TRD ? The elaztech it’s the greatest thing ever made for soft plastics .. 1 bait will last you all day unless they take it clean off .. they don’t break.. if you haven’t yet give them a try you won’t be disappointed I guarantee!!

    If you compare the Yum Dingers to Zman Finesse TRD WORMS, you’ll find the Zman plastics are a lot more soft, stretchy and last longer. That’s been my experience anyway. Also, if you give them a good stretch before you put them on the hook, they become more buoyant. As always, good stuff here, Clay!

    If the bite is right in the Saginaw Bay I’ve always joked that I could troll a frying Pan with a treble hook and catch walleye. Have yet to try it though 😂. Nice job man!

    Wow man, THAT was fun to watch! Ned rigs will find their way to my boat this summer. I’m going to key on the worm style for sure. Can’t believe I still have not wet a line.....🥺 this season.
    I have a question for you on GoPro settings. What do you have your “top” view and your “hat” cam set at? I mean narrow, or wide. Love the angles and perspective of the views. Nice work as always.

      @@ClaytonSchickOutdoors also something no longer available so I stocked up on them. was the Kevin van dam soft plastic baby bass color minnows 5 inch. With coffee scent in it supposedly. Yellow and white package. Ever see those in work form grab them you won’t be disappointed.

    When you use this rig set up do you find points/structure and use your electronics to see fish before you start fish? How many fish does it take on the electronics before you stop and fish?

      Yes and no... Sometimes I will fish it because the wind is blowing in and it looks good. I will stop and look even if I see 1 fish, electronics do miss some of the fish sometimes... (or you/I might not read it properly either)

      I know a little bit about trolling for lakers, too much t type here... But try shallow sand and Savage Gear line-thru trout :)

      I use ned rigs all the time I use 6 lb p line flouro clear and 8 lb p line flouro clear lines hope that helps 👍🐟🎣 My rods are bass pro walleye rods in 7 ft to 7 and half foot medium light good luck👍

    I notice you are using a split handle rod . Do you notice any advantage over a full handle ? I like the full handle if I'm using a rod holder .

      First year using the split handle. Better balanced they feel like. Really happy with them.

      Couple rods with a fast action. The faster the action the better the feel. Also, braided line :)

    What is the difference between a ned rig and just a regular jig?

      It's just a mushroomhead jig so it stands up better. They'll have a wire keeper as well to keep weight off the shank.

      I'm watching this and thinking Clayton could probably do as well with a 1/4 oz jig and a fluke minnow or a boot-tail swimbait. A jig is a jig is a jig, isn't it?

      @@thelonesomefisherman7425 Yeah, it would be nice to see some head-to-head action against a jig and jerk minnow jr or something like that. The video does show that the Ned rig works for walleye, though, so maybe that was the point? Guys do use a regular jig for a ned rig, but it won't stand up as well as the mushroom. People have done studies on the Ned and there is just something about it that drives fish to eat it. 🤷‍♂️
