    I've had that happen fish for pike -walleye get skunked, then change the setup like go from casting jerkbaits or plastics then say try deeper trolling or even dead bait and it's like Hello where've I been hibernating.

    If you don't have a bottom bouncer you can use a 3 way swivel and make a 3 way rig and do the same thing using a bell sinker.

      I think they're over hyped but they are good eating. They take on the flavor of whatever seasoning or breading you decide to use. Little to no fish taste. I prefer pike honestly.

  • @woodsandwater123
    @woodsandwater123 3 роки тому +1

    Clay and or anyone...can you explain the mechanics of this rig to me? So if you're using a bottom bouncer and you have it near the bottom...and then you have a crank on 5' of leader that prob dives at least another 5+ feet... how does this work without snagging? I know with spoons and spinners you have a certain amount of lift that will lift the rig ABOVE the bottom bouncer, but I feel like this set up would cause the diving crank to go below the bouncer especially at 1.8mph plus. I've been trolling for the last couple of years on inland lakes and I have had a reasonable amount of success, but to be honest its basically like black magic and its hard for me to put together the speed, line out, how deep the crank is, etc. Thank you for any comments...

    • @TheThetjs
      @TheThetjs 3 роки тому +1

      His bouncer is probably 4ft off the bottom. He checks for bottom everyone in a while by tipping the rod back and giving a bit of slack. Once he feels it he tightens back up on it bringing the bouncer off the bottom.

    Good video! In stained water like LOTP try shortening your lead to 24”-36”. It’s easier to handle/net them. I found you have much better control with shallow stick baits. They dive 3-5’. Using crank baits on a bouncer is a great way to catch fish without having a lot (100-200’ )of line out. Nice to see different techniques.

  • @goon8058
    @goon8058 3 роки тому

    What trolling speed are you going at with this setup Clayton? I might of missed it in the video I'm assuming it would be in that 1.2-1.8 mph range could be higher with crankbaits.

    MN, Matt that is true I've done the same thing here. You can cover a lot of in a litte time.. also did a rainbow trout fishing in a inland lake to get down deeper with a crank bait works great with a bottom bouncer. My son Ian and I went out for pan fish on Saturday, 5 fish limit on sunfish on this lake, had a had time finding keepers, 9.5 to 10+.. love it keep up the great videos...

    Hey Clayton, another good video man! One question: In the dog days of summer to early fall do you ever make an effort to jig or bobber for walleyes 10 feet or so off the bottom to hit the column that might have more oxygen rich ("They" call it thermocline) water? We have graphed alot of stuff in Devils Lake and Ashtabula here in North Dakota on the bottom between 23-33 feet and we cant get them to bite. Wondering if they come up off the bottom to feed where the water is better quality and then go back down to the cooler water and hang out belly to bottom. Thanks!
