No joke back in 2003 me and a couple classmates tried to do a medieval dance at homecoming to “Get Low” by Lil’ John. We nailed the dance (not quite a Saltarello lol) but our costume left a little to be desired; we were wearing Fubu jeans and K-Swiss sneakers looool
People of the Middle Ages were no different from us. They lived, loved, worked, celebrated life. It wasn't easy but they did the best they could with what they knew. We cannot bash them 300, 400, 600 years llater and judge them by our standards. They may find us odd or uncouth. I enjoy these videos and history to get a tiny glimpse of their lives. I think this is a lovely video and I love her outfit. Elegant and beautiful. Thank you for sharing this. ❤
I'm impressed that she's dancing wearing a hennin! I always imagined medieval women just sort of gliding or standing around in those, not dancing and jumping 😀
A 1,200 kg airplane is traveling at an unknown speed 65 m above the ground. It glides down to a height of 20 m and travels at 41 m/s. How fast was it initially traveling?
They're so graceful and wonderful to watch. I can imagine it being a fun dance to do. People just enjoying themselves as any people would do. Thanks for this. I really enjoyed it 😊
Well, maybe it was more of a medieval inspired event than an actual, strictly historically correct, medieval event? Like some Goths, who are inspired by the medieval ages in *some* parts of their dresses... They don´t actually dress mediaeval, just like most people inspired by mediaeval look in fantasy dressing/ cosplay don´t go all the way mediaeval eather.
@ Maureen Clement Rightly so. If I manage to have a girlfriend before This Fall's 2019 Renaissance Faire I'll talk to her about dancing with me this way. I have Welsh Ancestry way back, so it couldn't be that hard to do.
I've done some dances like this in the SCA, and I have to say...these slower more upper crust sort of dances are such a nice break when you're exhausted!
in tutto il mondo c`e l`Italia ! da 3000 anni ! La musica, la danza, l`arte ispira ancora oggi il mondo.... solo gli Italiani non ci sono piu`........... :-(
The Saltarello has always been primarily improvised; this particular version was invented in the modern era (1990s). The clothing is also not historically accurate, it is more of a mashup of medieval-inspired look. LOL. All of this is modern.
@@j.m.9151Also, video recording devices did not exist back then. Yes, we already knew that this was a modern recreation done by modern people and not totally accurate. LOL.
"The saltarello is a musical dance form originally from Italy. I's named for its peculiar leaping step, after the Italian verb saltare ("to jump"). Today there are still saltarelli played by folk bands in central Italy with the harmony and zampogna." According to Michele Abate.

What i find interesting is that in most of the paintings of the Saltarello the dancers seldom touch and seem to rather do their own thing. With a lot more turning around ones own axis involved. The peasants probably didnt follow choreographys which made the dance more lively.
The Saltarello is still danced by current Italian peasant folk but it is usualky to accordeons and tambourins and it is not as refined as this more regal form of this ancient dance.
Baltic states , Lithuania, the dance itself comes from medieval Italy : "The saltarello is a musical dance form originally from Italy. People should dance like this in clubs

I expect that, given that women were wearing hennins in daily life, dancing would be a normal part of it. 🙂
It is important to keep alive traditions and heritages, o Thanx for this amazingness!
If we have to keep 'em alive it means we have lost them.
@@derstoffausdemderjoghurtis That makes no sense, they're still doing it so it is not lost.It is just not widespread anymore.

AWESOME! The music, dancers, clothes, ALL!!
Great! I found hilarious -with all due respect- the medieval DJ, with the period correct outfit but operating modern electronic equipment!

I didn't noticed until you pointed it out, hilarious indeed!
It's medieval party, not an historical reconstitution.

What first came to mind when I noticed him was "Huh, he kinda looks like an assassin from Assassin's Creed" lol
Simple melody & simple dance yet full of vibrant tempo, Majestic indeed.
Gosh that veiled hennin is to die for!😍😍🥰🥰😭😭😭💖💖💖
That hat(forgot the name) the guy was wearing is the most medieval thing I ever seen
Quite authentic and enjoyable. Not at a rushed pace, more reserved, which fits in better with the upper class attire.

The choreography is a modern invention -- don't take it as evidence for anything actually period.
Origen napolitano, esta danza tan delicada y saltarina. Seguramente llevada de aqui a España o al contrario.
