Cally L you really made my day dear. 30 years of cluttering! Such devotion. Lucky me, I found this video before my pencils arrive on my doormat. 😹😹😹 thank you very much for this refreshing moment.
It's not as easy as it looks.l thought water colour would be easy lol not so. I think the secret is not to try & control it which is also easier said than done
Best tutorial I've seen all morning. Precise, interesting and educational. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I grew up using water colors in the tins but recently ordered the water color pencils. I also am now glad I ordered the water filled brushes as well. Thank you.
Great tutorial - really clear instruction, perfect for beginners like me who are using watercolour pencils for the first time. I didn't know where to start, but now I feel ready to have a go!
This is such a simple yet clear explanation and study on watercolor pencils. I am just starting out with paints and discovering what kind of water color niche I belong in and this is one of them. Thank you!

This is the first video on this subject that helped me see how the watercolor pencils can be celebrated and not just mostly watered into a standard watercolor look. Thanks!😁
Just ordered some water color pencils and paper can't wait to get started ill practice a bit not used water color be for this is good video for learning how to do a tree
what a lovely little painting! I really love your techniques and the overall finish Thanks for sharing this with us I enjoyed it and hope to put this new knowledge to good use have any opinions on the Derwent Watercolour Tin set that you're working with in this Video? I'm thinking about buying it... or Staedtler's Ergosoft or Karat set
rounak rangare Another late reply (I just discovered the video), but yes, the quality of both the pencils and the paper definitely makes a difference! Derwent brand watercolor pencils are very chalky for me and I usually cannot get them to completely dissolve. Also, cheaper pencils (which don't necessarily include Derwent) will tend not to be as lightfast. There are several high end brands, but I like Faber Castell Albrecht Durer. They dissolve completely so YOU choose to leave lines vs the pencil MAKING you leave lines. You need some "tooth" or texture to the paper, but many artists like a smoother paper than you would think. Bristol non-watercolor paper is SUPER smooth, too smooth. You can't layer. Many artists go with Hot Press watercolor paper, the smoothest kind of watercolor paper, but not as smooth as Bristol/Vellum finish non-watercolor paper (does that even make sense? :-) ). Then you have to see what kind of absorbency you like. I find Arches kind of terrible for watercolor painting, but I am actually really liking it for watercolor pencil. It allows dissolution of the pencil but is so absorbent, you can control where the water goes as you dissolve the pencil lines. In watercolor painting, the absorbency is very hard because you can't get a smooth wash - hard lines everywhere. Anyway, a year late, but hope that helps.
This reply is coming very late, but I just discovered the video! In case it's helpful, many watercolor pencil brands are the same diameter as regular colored or graphite pencils. You can sharpen in any old sharpener (of course good hand held rotary blade sharpeners or high end electric sharpeners are the best), or use a utility knife to shave off the wood and make the lead a fine point. I think the other commenter was saying that some sharpeners come with two holes, one for wider and one for narrower width pencils.
I am very curious regarding the naming of the colours you use. I have a Derwent Intense waterclour pencil chart and non of the nemes you use for coulours are on there.
I can't get it done! How he structures the inside of the tree is beyond me! The sky, trees in the background, and all the other things are easy enough, but I can't get the damn tree right! Gave up after four tries. Maybe for off beginners ,not for rank beginners...
It's really remarkably difficult to draw a tree, isn't it?! They look like they'd be pretty easy to draw, b/c really, there isn't much to them after all. Damned little buggers if you ask me, but I suppose the more I practice the more they may look like actual trees. At least that's what I'm hoping for before pure frustration kicks in, as my piece of watercolor paper goes sailing across the room, quickly followed by a pencil....
I don't think I'll bother with water soluble pencils. My respects to the artist, but the end result looked just like a pencil sketch of a cartoon backdrop.
Should have just used colored pencils if you weren't going to activate the watercolor. I don't get it? It isn't watercolor if there's no water involved.
After 30 years of making green blobs in coloring books, I am finally able to make a tree that looks like a tree. Thank you very much!

I have a question does quality of materials have effect on a final product?

Yes.
Raunak Rangare if you are using regular copy paper it’s going to be a problem.
When he added that fence.... 😭😭😭
How do you sharp your pencils?
Sharpen with the big sharpener next to the small one.
If you mean colored pencils.
?

He was using Derwent Watercolour pencils not Inktense pencils.

Finch Gould I have the same problem. If you don't give up, I won't give up! Deal?
Well, I haven't given up on this video, but for now I will focus on some other tutorials....

Trees and waves are beyond me.

WCP is more commonly known as WaterColour Paper.💎
Good
Kelan po ang dead line? Para sa assignment po na ito?
After 12 years of making green blobs... I STILL CANT, I DONT UNDERSTAND!!!!!
Great tutorial except using white. 11:43 white should be used with water brushes off the pencil tip.
Wow I actually have the same pencils, same color pencils, and same water brush. Jesus
Me putting it in slow motion
Oo
Where is his HAPPY little friend
Meanwhile mine looks like dumpster trash lmao
I can relate, mines ready for The Museum Of Bad Art!

He did activate it though, with the brush
kakas
Oh my God, that’s really bad, why would you put it on You Tube, have you no shame?
Boring as hell. Just my opinion.
What's boring in this?
