The headboard is from the late 1920’s-early 1930’s. The reeding and florals are what is called spoon pressed while the wood was wet. Then it was dried and looks like it’s carved.

Obviously I’m playing catch up on your videos. I love your vision of changing the headboard to a chalk board. I think the piece is old, and in the early 1900’s there were a lot of artisans who hand-carved pieces for furniture companies. Really it’s a beautiful piece and I’m so pleased by your creativity and vision for turning it into something you can use! Where others would just see something useless you had a vision of what it could be. Love it.

Hey Cory, thank you for being so real and comical😊you’re so right about the mirror and how some projects look easy and then reality hits you like “now what?” Feeling. Anyway, you inspire me to keep going even when I feel like I made a mistake in my thrift shopping. I’ve been watching you since you started doing furniture flips for kids who were aging out of foster homes and I think you’re great and you’re receiving tons of blessings in the process! So happy for you and your family! Keep the content and ideas coming🎉❤

I think that I like eclectic Christmas decor - things from the 40’s onwards and from different countries. Lots of family memories. But I like decorating in little vignettes so it doesn’t become overwhelming. I love how you use your hutch for seasonal decor❤

One thing I have seen other DIYers do when securing with E6000 is to add some hot glue to give extra adhesion that is instant and you don’t have to wait so long for the E6000 to dry. Good job using thst Shellac before painting! It seals the porosity of the wood so it won’t “bleed” into the paint.

  • @OwlingDogDesign

I always prefer old school (traditional) Christmas. Just use TiteBond glue for total adherence. Use a glue gun to set down your pieces (shells/molds) & that will stick immediately. The TiteBond will hold it forever. It doesn't smell at all and bonds REALLY well to wood and 'other' materials. Yay to the Ugly Duckling Challenge, I will gladly participate. 🥰

I grew up in a totally 70's house. Burnt Orange, avocado green, earth brown. I loathe orange because my mother had a bright orange Naugahyde sofa (shudder) and I still can't stand most greens except outside. I have a collection of tiny houses that I love still.

I like both Christmas styles so I decorate every room differently. My dinning room is traditional, a nutcracker theme. My living room is in blues, and silver more modern. My sunroom has a woodland theme. My staircase is always traditional with greenery, some fake and some real. I use magnolia leaves and evergreens from the property as well as red apples and red beads, that symbolize cranberries. I like to decorate each room to have its own personality.
So glad you are having a blast at that store. Good finds! I can't wait to see the room transformation!

Seashells are great, in a clear vase to support flowers.
I just think they’re pretty and a clear vase. You can use them in a ceramic vase or any type really, but they’re great at helping to hold flowers in the correct space and being seashells the water doesn’t affect them. Love the chalk board in fact loved everything! Thank you.

A lot of mass produced is hand carved or hand done. Like clothing it's still individuals sewing at machines. Many craftsman with certain tools learn to do that fast. The difference may be one person does all the top piece with flowers and so on and assemblers will glue it up. I love what you did with the headboard. We have similar green on wall but color a bit more gray and white trim. We need headboarr as our king bed is partially on 2 windows.

*I like old school Christmas 🎄 decor - leaning more towards Victorian or even primitive woodland types with pinecones, twigs, bird's nests and wooden ornaments, like stars. I'm crazy over the old glass ornaments, mercury glass, lace and old brooches, pearls and jewelry made into ornaments. I prefer pinks, soft blues, lavender, ivory, gold, rose gold, olive greens, burgundy, and browns (in the primitive style), etc. over traditional Christmas 🎄 reds and greens.*
*If you home school, or your kids like to draw with chalk, I would turn the other rectangular piece of the headboard into another chalkboard for your home school room or your kid's playroom for them to do lessons and exercise their creativity. 🤎👍🏼*

@@DesertDIY *Thank you, Cory❣️ I like old things. I guess I would call my style a combination of Traditional and Cottage Core (Granny Chic). 🤣 My parents were Antique Dealers and their love for old things definitely rubbed off on me, LOL‼️😁*
*I'm glad you like my idea for using the rest of the headboard as a chalkboard for your kiddos...I figured they aren't that tall (yet) and would enjoy being able to reach to (almost) the top (depending upon the child) with their artistry and feel accomplished filling up the entire board with their drawings. 😀 I remember feeling overwhelmed, as a child, looking at that HUGE board at school. 😔🤪 Meeting a child's psychological needs is important, too. 😊*

Your box of cottages look like David Winter cottages…there should be a label on the bottom of them. I have two that I purchased in Germany when we lived there back in the 80s. You should check them out before you sell them (saw where a lady ask how much you would sell them for). You are sooo good at thrifting and making it all look so high end Cory! I found this cute little basket that I was going to use for harvesting but it’s kind of small cause I do grow I have a garden, but I thought that would be the perfect basket to put the remote and you know the pen or whatever I need on the living room coffee table and when my grandbaby comes, I just pick it up since on the handles and move it to the dining table. I'm somewhat new to this channel. Why do you have a formal dining room and a formal living room?
I remember my grand parents having a formal living room. No children were allowed in there. As I got older I was allowed in there yet younger cousins weren't. Beautiful Antiques. This room was beautiful and calming. I don't recall if that room was ever really used. One might think of this room as the stereotypical Asian decor. I'm second generation on my grandmother's side in the USA. 50% Chinese.
Yes it was a gorgeous room, yet not used. Their house was big.
I have a tough time with the concept of formal areas and everyday living areas.
I'm not here to judge or be judged. I'm curious.

I think every wood piece of furniture or item in this house I have painted I think there’s two pieces one was an original table from I guess it’s an end table from Mexico. It was my grandmother’s. I kept that original. It’s beautiful it’s really antique it’s got like a medallion top, it’s an octagon shape and it just holds the Tiffany lamp on there and whatever else I’m gonna put..

I had the same experience with JB Weld! Very disappointing. E6000 is definitely my go-to heavy duty adhesive. Your mirror came out adorable! You have a good eye!

Me and my husband are always picking up on the side of the road believe me I have found some gyms in the HEIGHTS area like antique cabinets that had the wavy glass or bookshelves and actually I held onto them for so long is my house is so small. I had a garage garage sale and I bundled all that picked it up for Free cleaned it up, just so you know make it real pretty and then one day I had a garage sale and I said I’m gonna sell it because it’s just sitting here. My kids didn’t want it and I thought it was beautiful. It had wheels on it but I sold a few things as a bundle for $30. I didn’t want it to come back in and take up space

I live here in Houston as well I’m really close to the downtown but my house is historic 1925. It’s very small it’s like 900 square-foot so I don’t have a lot of room as far as floor plan but I use my walls so I have cabinets on my walls things that are on my walls to put my decorations, which is a lot of our antiques from my mother and grandmother, but I do three or four antiques as well, and I also like the oldprimitive style

    Hi Cory,
Wow you found some awesome goodies! Can’t wait to see them all done and in there new home.
I’m one that cannot get into trends for Christmas, I love pulling out things I’ve had for ages and mixing
a few new things, homemade items and just grouping it all in cute little settings, not sure what my style
is 😂. I do know that “Red” HAS got to be in my deco, even if it’s spots here n there. Lol Red is just soooooo
    Christmas!!
I love your videos, you always make me happy watching them. God Bless sweet girl. ❤

For the sparkle flip project I think your dresser would look great with a faux marble top! Theres lots of great sparkle counter top options and I think diy creating a faux marble top using resin, glitter and/or paints would be great.

How awesome to get the little tables. Maybe that area is more expensive because there is higher end finds. Luv your thrift finds and how you used them. I might be able to get in the challenge, have to have a brainstorm session and see if I can fit it in this month.

I personally think that those Christmas decor items that you found were absolutely beautiful and I like the linsical style and I think that there's so much more fun and beautiful than all the decor that they call Christmas decor these days.

There is something very nostalgic about the detailed Christmas decor but as someone who rarely decorates for Christmas, I don't necessarily have a preference... Not a scrooge, just don't get into all the hassle of a complete decorating Christmas thing... lol
