and Mrs t Hats off to you for not getting on the ceiling (I always manage to get paint where I dont want it) and I would have to take curtains down as would probally get paint on them too. Loved watching you paint so well done
The formal living room is looking good. Yes I’d love to see your craft room. Also think the stair case walls would look great painted the living room new paint color.
When I watch your videos and see the materials that you start with, I often find myself thinking, "Hmmm. I don't know about that." But then, when you pull everything together at the end, I always think, "Wow! Amazing! Well done!"
I am just amazed how you can paint a room, or even your table all without a drop cloth and nothing on the rug!! I was watching and saying, no she is going to get it on the curtains!! You amaze me, I would have gotten it on the rug and all over me. I am always covered when I paint!! Love watching your videos!! Your living room came out wonderful! So cozy!!
I love that you own your style no matter what anyone else thinks. I am very eclectic and I also luv what I luv! Thanks for sharing your new journey, your tiled top turned out beautiful.
Thank you so much Dar! I love your style too! I always think about your fish painting with the rocks. That was so cool. Will you get to join in on the next ugly duck at the end of august?
@DesertDIY hi cory. I had a piece I was working on for a different challenge, for the 26th, Sabrina from sabs Rehabs. I switched my end pattern to meet your requirements. So I will forgo that one to participate in yours. Definitely ugly to to start, I put 2 antique chairs together to make a bench. Hopefully my dixie shine will get here in time!
You did an awesome job. I understand very well about having sentimental value on the book shelves. I would do without some end tables since you have a coffee table. That’s just me. Thanks for sharing, Corie ❤
Hi Cory! I love how you made over the coffee table! What a great idea! It looks perfect in that room! I vote for the wood basket with the blue spheres centerpiece to decorate it, or at least something wood, because a wood accent is needed to tie in with the beautiful bookshelves. No on the side tables, because they would be covering up some of the bookshelves, unless you can move them over more you may have room to put small accent tables in between the bookshelves and couch. That's my 2 cents worth! :-) And yes we love to watch you paint! Can't wait for the next video!
You decorate your home to suit you, not a trend! Love love love those bookshelves! Looks great in the room! Love your work, thank you for sharing this video and the family time you add to this.
I vote for wood bowl with blue balls on the coffee table. Additionally, I would paint the bookcases to match the trim in the room and move them all the way to the corner and then find some small side tables, maybe half rounds for each end of the sofa. It looks great!
Lovely job Corey! I think it would look too crowded with side tables in front of the bookcases, so I say no. And I like the blue balls in the wood dish, as it ties everything together!
I agree! I was thinking it might be overkill with the books since there are books on the shelves as well. I’m not a big reader though 😆. Plus it helps it look more formal in my opinion. Extra books on the table might lend to a more casual feel. The video is great!! ❤
No to side tables. Yes to blue and white table decor. Formal living room don't need coffee table books. Looks great and I love that you pulled in items from your grandmother. Your children are great helpers. Nice job.
What I like about your videos is how down to earth and practical you are about you decorate. It’s truly what you like and it’s on a budget the average person can relate to. How great to have your kids help with the coffee table. Also, I am impressed how you paint over the carpet. I’m a messy painter so I need a huge drop cloth, lol.
I really liked the wooden bowl with the blue & white balls on the coffee table. It made a huge difference in that it tied in with the sofa & as you said with the wooden bookcases.
I envy your painting skills. I am no longer physically able to paint but, when I could, I was terrible at edging. You make it look easy. I love the story about your grandmother and her bookcases. Have you considered adding to their height by building a simple booster frame/box , staining it to match and sitting the bookcases atop? The additional height would make them look even more substantial. Adding greenery to the top would also give an illusion of more height. Doesn't have to be in a pot or vase. As to the question of adding side tables in front of the bookcases, try this: Grab any appropriately sized table you have iin the house and place it in front of one of the bookcases. Decorate it with a lamp or whatever items you would normally use. Then just stand back and look. Your eyes will tell you what to do. God bless.
The whole time I watched you painting I was screaming “I can’t believe she’s not using drop cloths!” But apparently you are a much neater painter then me!!! When I use a paint roller on a wall I always get tiny splatters on the floor. You are a brave woman! And very impressive! The room looks beautiful so far. I love the paint colors you chose. The marble table is unique and beautiful. And I vote for no side table next to the sofa. You have motivated me to do more diy in my own home!
I love the mix of dark furniture on a light wall and mixed with light furniture. It adds a touch of classic elegance and is timeless. Pieces that are older just seem to have more solid crafted appeal. The room looks absolutely stunning. Well done.❤
Painting is such a chore for me that I absolutely will not do it until I’m 100% sure of the color I want. I buy a sample and paint a poster board the color then thumb tack to the wall in the room I want to test it in and look at it in different lighting over the course of a couple weeks, changing spots on the walls as well.
Hi Cory, I would paint the wall where the stairs are. It will be lighter & brighter. Also would flow better from the room. Your house is coming out beautiful!
Lovely room! And love the blue! Think about securing those tall shelves to the wall to keep from tipping over. Kids do love to climb. The table turned out great. God’s blessings.
I would like to see your new craft room. Side tables on either end of the sofa would be convenient for guests, however (to me) it would appear very cluttered. Definitely think you should paint the stairwell wall the same color as the living room as it is the unstated ‘fourth’ wall to your living room. Looking forward to seeing your completed living room. 💝
I love all of your decor and the coffee table is a fantastic creation. I like the books maybe you can take the sleeves off and let the actual book shows and accent with small similar arrangement as dining room. It does tie in so well. And maybe small side tables made from cane, wicker or bamboo that isn’t solid heavy wood.
I like what you have on the table now for decor. As for side tables, do you need them to hold lamps for lighting on that side of the room? They might look too crowded, it’s hard to tell without seeing them. If you need lamps, maybe put some pole lamps in front of the bookcases. They would provide task lighting and cast a nice glow on the bookcase decor. And yes to the unboxing video! 💖
I would say no to the side tables, but maybe add a small lamp on each side. Also, I love the center piece from your dining table on that coffee table. And yes, I would paint that stair wall the same color. It is a really pretty color and would brighten it up a bit.
The room looks great, I think u should consider painting the cabinets same as table, the room looks beautiful I like it, put the center piece on the table🙌👌❤️
Oh my gosh I love the coffee table that's an inspiring project 😊 as for the end table on the sides of sofa it's your bbq you do it how you like it cause it's you that lives in your house just my honest opinion do what makes you happy 😊
It’s looks great Cory! I wasn’t sure abt the coffee table but it looks great and the blue in the centerpiece pulls it all together. Would love to see your craft room. You are such an inspiration!!!!🥰🥰🥰🥰
As for side tables, consider turning the bookshelves into "secretaries" with a pull down desk front piece over the third shelf using hidden hinges and the mechanisms people use to make toy boxes that don't fall on kids fingers. That when pulled down can be used as side tables for when you need it and won't block the shelves below nor feel too heavy layering tables in front of shelves. It's a compromise, looks interesting and also useful! I'm sure your hubby and you can do it! Otherwise tray like tables would be best to not overwhelm the space. I wish your tile had been broken blue and white dishes so not so much white. Then a dark tray holding your books and some balls would be a way to tie in the dark bookcases. That's just my two cents I guess...
@@DesertDIY well sometimes cheap when broken or cracked at yard sales. It was just a thought. Maybe stencils next time before you break them? Not really sure.
I love the center piece! Side tables layered in could look great. They are practical for guests and useful to set lamps or candles on for a multi-level lighting scheme. I'd go for very small, minimal ones, complementary to each other but not necessarily matching. Also consider putting a mirror in the frame behind the wreathe. It would increase the light in your room and make the space look airy and open. As my mother used to say, if you can't knock a window through, you can always hang a mirror! I love a wreath on a mirror, too.
Beautiful! I think I'd go with some small side tables, even some little drinks tables (either DIY or Target) in front of the bookcases. Grown-ups need a place to set their drinks. I love that you included your grandmother's bookcases: it's the personal items that give a beautifully decorated room its soul. I have used Smart Mat instead of mastic on tiling projects and had excellent results...another way to prevent tannin bleed-through. I always look forward to your videos and can't wait to see what you do on the other side of the room.
If you have room pull the sofa out aways and put a table behind it. Then you have somewhere to put drinks etc when sitting on the sofa. You can also layers tables in front of the bookshelves if you want. Make sure they are easy to move type with no lamps or cords.
You are really good at cutting in for the paint! Love the colour. Very soothing. Omg, you’re so brave painting that table without a drop cloth. I’d have it everywhere! Lol. The coffee table looks nice with the wood and blue. You don’t really need end tables.
Hahaha that is understandable. I used to be the same way. I've been doing it as a job for 5 years now and as a hobby for my whole life so I have finally gotten neater over time
Cory...yay ! another success !!! Here's my take on input you asked for : yes, do hall/stair wall in same color as room ...love the color ! I would love to see a haul video from your online auction finds. I'm totally freaked out that you painted around your windows with curtains up - and the table without a drop cloth underneath !! Clearly you are very practiced...I would have a sloppy mess !! Kisses and belly rubs to sweet Piper..Good job to all the kiddos on the marble top ! I think you'd find it too cluttered with side tables but can see why you would want them...lighting and stuff. Perhaps some small leggy tables that don't take up much visual space, and where you could still see a lot of the shelving & goodies !! whew ! ❤❤
I love what you've done with the room Cory. I wouldn't paint the hall wall with the same colour. The contrast with the dark and light is beautiful. And I wouldn't add side tables either. The bookcases each end are perfect as they are.
I think a small end table that is open and airy, would look good in front of the book shelves. Maybe a little round marble top table. I saw some cute one on homary!
The painting in this video is extremely physically hard work and I loved watching you paint and learnt from you. You are creating a magnificent home Corey. Well done, your family must be so proud of you. The table is stunning. What a great renovation. I would not put side tables in front of the book shelves
Love the ironstone. Love the tabletop. I probably would have left the edges and legs dark to go with the bookshelves, but the light color probably looks like it takes up less space. Country French needs a little pale yellow to go with that French blue. Next video?
Thank you Muriel. Yes that was my thought process but also the original wood finish was not the right tone and it looked like too stark of a contrast with the white marble. I need to add a lot more to the room I'm having a hard time deciding exactly what
@DesertDIY , I took a class in college on interior decorating, years and years ago. This style was called French provincial then. One of the classic color combos for French provincial was blue and yellow. In palaces, French was often blue and gold, or polished brass.
Very nice. Because marble is often found near Iron, it's not unusual to see some iron over time. So could be that rather than the wood. And yes tables for lamps. So you can read there. Small and maybe round similar in style to the coffee table
I agree with you I think it would be beautiful to paint the stairwell a lighter color because it really opens up the room I think you have a great idea there and I love watching what you do and sing your results because you are very talented.
Your coffee table turned out great !! I like the basket with the spheres for the table. I think side tables might detract from your shelf units and the beautiful items displayed on them. If you need lighting so you don't always need to use the overhead lights, you could use floor lamps. I like watching you paint! I get great tips from you! I vote for a craft room video!! Your room is coming along nicely!!
You are doing such a beautiful job, and I love your idea for the coffee table! I want to do that someday!! Thank you for sharing! I am excited about all the videos that you mentioned doing soon!
Even when you are painting I find it informative. Keep showing the painting.
I think the stair wall would look really great that same color!

Love watching you paint, I really enjoy painting and finding it very relaxing. You have also inspired me to redo my very tired and boring living room.
Oh yay. Let me know how it turns out
The formal living room is looking good. Yes I’d love to see your craft room. Also think the stair case walls would look great painted the living room new paint color.
Thank you Tammy! I'll get working on those
Hi Cory, I really like the wooden bowl with the balls. They do pull the blue and brown together from the rest of the space nicely.
Thank you Kristy
When I watch your videos and see the materials that you start with, I often find myself thinking, "Hmmm. I don't know about that." But then, when you pull everything together at the end, I always think, "Wow! Amazing! Well done!"
Side tables with short lamps would complete the space. The coffee table is lovely.

Well done, your family must be so proud of you. The table is stunning. What a great renovation. I would not put side tables in front of the book shelves
Thank you so much Gail. You sure have a way with words! You made my day
Everything looks great. I like the books best
Thank you Dianna
Thank you for the tips!
I think those book cases would look great with fabric on the back. It’s very easy to do and looks great.
That's a cool idea
Or peel and stick paper in a soft color and this way you can easily peel it off when you want a change.
yes to the blue balls, think about decor and a painting on top of the book cases....
Good ideas
I agree with you I think it would be beautiful to paint the stairwell a lighter color because it really opens up the room I think you have a great idea there and I love watching what you do and sing your results because you are very talented.
Thank you so much!
Yes, paint the stair wall a lighter color. It will brighten it up. Luv your channel!! I would like to see some wallpaper on the back of your bookcase.
Thank you! Great idea
Thank you so much Caroline. And great ideas
Congratulations on the sponsor!
I will definitely be checking them out!
Thank you so much I really liked their cane side tables. I needed a couch more than side tables though haha.
You are amazing! I’ll never understand how you can paint on your carpet without drop cloths!
Luck! Haha
It looks perfect the way you did it. Leave as is.
You are doing such a beautiful job, and I love your idea for the coffee table! I want to do that someday!! Thank you for sharing! I am excited about all the videos that you mentioned doing soon!
Thank you so much Sarah! I hope you like all the new videos just as much
