So I grew up on Valentine Ave past 195th St. Back in the 60's the area was primarily Jewish, Irish and Italian. Where PC Richard is on Fordhan Rd was Alexander's Still a big shopping area. Hung out at Poe Park. Arthur Ave with long history of Italian restaurants. Old apt buildings with beautiful rooms.
This was my neighborhood from when I was born 1955 to 1970s. I see the Gyro King is still there! ❤ Your film brought me back in time! . Some places have changed but the streets and a lot of old buildings haven't. Thanks for the tour. Liked and Subscribed! 😎👍

That’s why I hate the Bronx. It’s filthy here. Nasty cesspool and worse it’s overpopulated, too many people. Like roaches everywhere you turn people crowding your personal space with their broke self and ghetto and classless unruly mentality. It’s a big germ factory and disease spreader. All people do is run amok committing crimes against the innocent hard working people and giving birth to unruly classless violent kids. There are some hard working and peaceful people there, but don’t look too hard to find them. Just trust God and He will place them in your path. The mayor , governor, and many citizens that live there are the blame for all the unsanitary living conditions.
The Capital One/Children's Place used to be Alexanders. I believe that was Dry Dock Savings Bank on the Concourse. There used to be a Greek bakery right before it. There was a German bakery, Weber's, a bit up on Fordham, near University. There were 3 movie theaters - the Paradise on the Concourse, the RKO and Valentine, both on Fordham. Anyone remember Gorman's hot dogs? Those were great!
@@BIGHAMZA Don't remember the Capri. There were 2 Woolworths - one on the south side of Fordham near VAlentine and another on the north side of Fordham near Jerome.
Such a great walk through my old shopping neighborhoods.. 1980-2010.. Truly miss the hustling and bustle.. Arthur Ave still being well kept! Hopefully they’ll be doing some repairs to the underpass on the Grand Concourse! Thank You for sharing.. Talk about a walk well worth it! 👏💕👏💕👏
The more things change, the more they stay the same. My old shopping/movies and stomping grounds of the 70s. I saw Star Wars there in 1977 at the old Orpheus theatre. Lots of movies at the Lowe's Paradise. I see the army recruiter is still there. The old Alexander's is now PC Richards. The sights and sounds, car horns, ice cream truck, sirens and preachers on their loudspeaker all at once. Seems chaotic and organized at the same time. Miss it

Fordham road is beautiful back in the day it was gorgeous in the 70s 80s and 90s it was beautiful we had major department stores our major department store on Fordham was Alexander's department store woodworks modell's Sears we had some beautiful department stores up there but times change and the owners passed away cuz it was originally Jewish Jewish Italian and English owned businesses the original owners they passed away and they didn't you know had no one to leave it to so you know we have to go with the times and the change businesses come businesses go the thing that's making Fordham road not look so nice now is the street vendors and that's been a major complaint of the residents in the areas like the street vendors they really need to comb them in or like kind of like wrangle them in and put them in one spot that's what's making it so kind of congested but otherwise Fordham road is always been a beautiful spot it's time to come back and I'm so proud to see that it started in 2018 Fordham roadside to come back slowly sure he's going to come back but it's just the street vendors I believe it free enterprise but that's always been my biggest fear is that God for something happens and people are running a lot of people going to get hurt so yes I enjoy your videos I know you had a good workout cuz four in the road is a damn hill and baby you don't have to go to a gym that he'll just alone will make your legs feel it so thank you for making this video it was truly a joy and I hope you have some extra sauce to soak your feet. ✌️🤗🛍️
Walking around Fordham Road, you would see the old telephone booths of years gone by. They are painted in bright red. Alot of the younger generation today don't know about those old telephone booths. I was looking at an old movie, and it was filmed in new york many many years ago. And in the movie, this guy walks up to one of those old red telephone booth. He took the receiver out of the square compartment of the telephone booth to make a phone call. So for those of you who did not know what that bright red metal monument was, it is indeed an Old fashioned telephone booth. And yes it is a legacy.

To Julien in NYC maybe you should a walk through Parkchester and Pelham Gardens. It is claimed that both are the most diverse neighborhoods in the whole Bronx where no single ethnic group is dominant or an majority. Metropolitan Avenue, Unionport Road, White Plains Road and Eastchester Road are its primary thoroughfares respectfully .
I remember fondly a time when Parkchester and White Plains Road were once the most eloquent and hospitable districts in the Northern Bronx😢. How long ago was it? I'd say 1957 when I was ten years old.

This is a great video! But let me tell you, with the way the crime is here in the city, you wouldn't catch me on Fordham Road past 6PM, Nope not gonna happen. At the 18:31 mark, that electronic/jewelry store to your right was just recently robbed a few days ago too. At 22:12 if you would have panned over to the right, you would've seen the store that got robbed of 2 million worth of jewelry. Not trying to put fear in anyone's heart here but it's just we gotta be careful of our surroundings. Again, great video👍
I'm from the Bronx and I haven't been back for a long time. But looking at it from.this video it kind of reminds me of Brazil, especially the population and the hustle in the streets. It looked like Rio. Different perspective of my hometown. What you do notice that is different than Brazil is the yt American population flees as soon as a neighborhood becomes majority black and brown. That is unlike Brazil where everyone of the same socio economic background just lives together, making families regardless of race. America is odd in this way. That line of demarcation of Arthur Ave where everyone was "suddenly" yt, it's embarrassing. It tells the whole story of America. I'm glad I left the US. I didn't want my kids growing up in this social engineering
I grew up in the Bronx. Moved to Texas in 2006. I miss Fordham Road. I went there all the time to shop and hang out with my friends. Remember seeing Spike Lee's "School Daze" at that old theatre that no longer exist. I cannot believe that those ignorant fools, the Black Israelites, are still out there preaching their hate. It's sad. Not much has changed in that aspect. Hopefully, they'll wake up one day. Thank God that there are still others out there preaching the truth.
You're correct Alice ! I can remember walking to the Paradise Theater, Alexander's, Cousin's Record shop, Joe's Army/Navy store, Harry's Hub bar, Sears, etc. and never seeing a single Iron Gate or piles of trash !
Yup. It's quite disgusting. My grandparents moved from Inwood to University and Fordham in 1975. I have no idea what on earth possessed them to do that - Fordham had already changed. Inwood was changing but at least the west side of Broadway stayed ok (they lived on Academy near Sherman - all they had to do was move to Seaman or Park Terrace). My grandmother was mugged twice in her building lobby, once with my 5 year old sister. When my parents moved out of Inwood in 92, she came with us to Morris Park. Whole other world, just a few miles away.

I'm from the Bronx and I haven't been back for a long time. But looking at it from.this video it kind of reminds me of Brazil, especially the population and the hustle in the streets. It looked like Rio. Different perspective of my hometown. What you do notice that is different than Brazil is the yt American population flees as soon as a neighborhood becomes majority black and brown. That is unlike Brazil where everyone of the same socio economic background just lives together, making families regardless of race. America is odd in this way. That line of demarcation of Arthur Ave where everyone was "suddenly" yt, it's embarrassing. It tells the whole story of America. I'm glad I left the US. I didn't want my kids growing up in this social engineering

I grew up in the Bronx. Moved to Texas in 2006. I miss Fordham Road. I went there all the time to shop and hang out with my friends. Remember seeing Spike Lee's "School Daze" at that old theatre that no longer exist. I cannot believe that those ignorant fools, the Black Israelites, are still out there preaching their hate. It's sad. Not much has changed in that aspect. Hopefully, they'll wake up one day. Thank God that there are still others out there preaching the truth.

You're correct Alice ! I can remember walking to the Paradise Theater, Alexander's, Cousin's Record shop, Joe's Army/Navy store, Harry's Hub bar, Sears, etc. and never seeing a single Iron Gate or piles of trash !

Yup. It's quite disgusting. My grandparents moved from Inwood to University and Fordham in 1975. I have no idea what on earth possessed them to do that - Fordham had already changed. Inwood was changing but at least the west side of Broadway stayed ok (they lived on Academy near Sherman - all they had to do was move to Seaman or Park Terrace). My grandmother was mugged twice in her building lobby, once with my 5 year old sister. When my parents moved out of Inwood in 92, she came with us to Morris Park. Whole other world, just a few miles away.
