  • Today I finally received and unboxed my brand new Panasonic Lumix S5 mk ii and it's not all as it should be! I can't believe that they left out this one crucial piece of equipment! They no longer include a charger. This is a massive oversight by panasonic and I hope that they change this in the future because it seems like they are just money pinching.

    Firstly, great video quality man. Secondly, it's a serious bummer that Panasonic really went down the rabbit hole of not adding chargers to the package. I have the S5 first gen and an aftermarket dual charging dock but sometimes I need to charge my batteries fast and an extra charger will be needed when I get the S5ii

      Yeah 100% on a wedding day between 3 cameras I’ll easily burn through 12-15 batteries and on days when I have back to back weddings I need them all charged overnight so I have the ability already to charge 15 at once. But for those new to the system…. How do you charge your battery and a spare without switching them out in camera?

    If camera companies really care about lessening their impact on the environment, they should standardize their batteries. Or at least accept exchanges of chargers if you have to change brands and you have a leftover charger.

    Sony comes with chargers now? Ive bought several Sony cameras that didnt have chargers in the recent past. Thanks for the heads up though. I bought an S5II thats coming today. I can get two Wasabi batteries with a dual charger for $40 on Amazon, no big deal. I buy third party batteries for every camera anyways.

    My sony a7III did not have a charger included either, they did include a cable to charge the battery when it's in the camera but that takes ages. Just get a cheap aftermarket dual charger instead because if you shoot weddings you'll have more then one battery to charge anyway. We can't really complain considering the pricepoint of this camera.

    • @RoryandCasey
      @RoryandCasey  Рік тому

      Oh yeah I have a ton of chargers. I’m just thinking. If you are switching from canon or Sony you get the s5 ii and you’ve not had any Panasonic gear before you open it up and there is no charger. That’s a disappointment straight away. It would cost them basically nothing to include one. If you get rid of anything get rid of the usb c cable and include the charging brick. They made such a big fuss about only using the oem charger for the original S5

    • @RoryandCasey
      @RoryandCasey  Рік тому

      If it's for real estate photos then the gh5 is just fine. If for video then yes a full frame camera will give you a lot more dynamic range and better in low light. The batteries are similar but the gh5 batteries won't fit in the S5 ii (but the S5 batteries do fit in the gh5)

    I was thinking about upgrading from my Canon M50 to Lumix but apart from lack of battery charger, Lumix also doesn't have a wireless remote control like my Canon M50. Me being solo content creator use remote all the time and I am not prepared to use mobile with app as it's not so small and versatile. I can press remote with my feet whilst holding equipment with both hands. I can't do it with Lumix. Sony and Canon have remote controls small and affordable. How come Lumix can't have one? Is this camera only for filming others, not yourself?

      Happy to be wrong about Sony but canon and Nikon both still provide chargers.
      I understand cutting back on waste etc but ditch the usb c cable which everyone has a bunch of not the charging brick which is very specific for that exact battery.
      Like I said also. It’s not an issue for me. I have a ton of chargers. It just confuses me that they have publicly said they want to capture market share but then don’t give these people who are new to the system a simple charger.

    S1 and S1R packaging is waaaaaaay far luxery, not like S5 series cardboard package. No charger, no instruction, packaged cheap - did not expect that from Panasonic. Step into slippery road of cheapization. I.e. you pay the same amount, for cheap cardboard like unboxing experience. And all "green" stuff and "saving planet" is totally BS, just excuse to have extra profit, while all paper is RECYCLBLE material and not just a waste. In old-good times it would be charger and HDMI cable included....welcome to 2020s...

    Unfortunately this is where the entire tech industry is going. First iPhones, now cameras, pretty soon it'll be laptops. They just assume you have a USB-C charger, which is probably true, but like... that cable is charging something else.

      Problem is, in this situation its the opposite. They provided the 2 things people ALREADY have, which was the USB-C cable and a wall adapter, NOT the uniquely shaped charging port, where you actually place the battery to be charged. They could have omitted the cable and wall adaptor and simply provided that dock and that would be fine. This was a big oversight by Panasonic and the completely wrong decision to have made. Especially for a camera that is aiming to get NEW Lumix users, who wont have a charger from an S5 of GH6 laying around.
