The fuel efficiency on the small engines is insane. I have a 78cc 2-stroke on my bicycle and I went a mile and a half without turning on the fuel petcock. It literally ran for 20 minutes just off of the fuel in the fuel filter

My grandfather had a sawmill powered by an International Diesel engine which started on gasoline, then when warmed up the operator switched to diesel. It came from the factory that way in the 1940s.

    • @recyclebills

@@aaronpratt89 Until alternators became common in the late 1950s and 1960s, most all engines used 6 volt electrical systems which simply lacked sufficent power to start a diesel engine while cold. Thus dual fuel, air starters, and pony motors. A pony motor was a tiny gasoline engine that was used as a starter for the bigger diesel engine. Pony motors were common on tractors and especially construction equipment until the 1970s.
I'll never forget buying a Cat D8 dozer with a pony motor and watching a half dozen experienced heavy equipment operators try to figure out how to start the engine. Modern stuff is far easier to learn to run.
An additional problem your tiny engine faces is low compression. Diesel engines had many times more compression than did gasoline engines and generally 2 cycle engines run lower compression ratios than 4 cycle engines.
That said, for many years, up until the late 1980s or early 90s, Detroit Deisel, a division of General Motors, manufactured 2 cycle diesels that would scream on top end but were gutless when pulling heavy loads. And get this, if you stalled the engine out when taking off on grade, then let the clutch out too quickly they would run backwards until the lack of oil pressure destroyed the engine.
Finally, if a 2 stroke Diesel overheated it would take on a life of its own screaming wide open well past the governed speed until it exploded.
I drove many trucks with Detroit 2 strokes and hated them all.

You can do the same thing with briggs and stratton flathead. the make the air fuel mix go through 2 90 deg bends before hitting the hot valve. The cylinder will just see diesel vapor that can easily be ignited. Its hard to get it going, but once up to temp it only smokes a little

Love this experiment and would like to see how far this can go. Have seen a few diesel engines run on used motor oil mixed with regular gasoline (even with old bad gas). My only question or concern would be how does the engine handle over time, basically after many hours of use what do the internals of the engine look like. Could this work for an extended period of time. Detroit Diesel had this concept down to a science with their 2 stroke diesel in the early days of trucking, industrial applications, and agricultural motors. Makes me want to play around with these concepts.

Lastly, will the coil mount properly and is the flywheel going to clear the new cylinder? I honestly have no idea what engine you have or the big bore kit in question. I much prefer diesel engines over petrol engines any day no matter the size of the car.
On some racing bikes petrol is preferable
Big 2 stoke diesels on ships run from bunker oil to diesel to even kerosine.
I'm sure if the engine had more compression. As in making the piston longer or welding a load of stuff to it would help as diesel engines have a much higher compression.
I'm pretty sure humvees and all US army and most nato military equipment is supposed to be able to run on a steady diet of k2 jet fuel (kerosine) diesel would work just as well if not better in piston engines.
Small aircraft manufacturers are making more diesel/kerosine piston engines so aircraft can use jet fuel that's Alot cheaper and more available than aviation gasoline.
Some vehicles can use alocol, Methanol, gasoline, kerosine and diesel, multi fuel engines.
I think a few Russian tanks have this ability but to be able to adjust the compression must not be easy

Most US military vehicles will run multi fuel. The Abrams tank, for example, is a multi fuel turbine engine.

    • @luked2767
      @luked2767 Рік тому

@@andrewsmith1735 most millitary vehicles in advanced NATO nations are multi fuel but it's mostly millitary jet fuel, civilian jet fuel, any type of kerosine, any type of diesel biodiesel and then stuff like clean vegetable oil or motor oil or even hydraulic fluid (could used used but it would have to filtered and water removed. Could also use propaine or any compressed fuel gas like LPG but would still want some lubricity so would have to have some oil in the pump
On the M1 you could probably get away with using gasoline of any quality, naptha, ethanol 95%+ or methanol 95%+ as its a turbine engine but it would reduce the life of the engine.
No idea if they are still mde but we had some kawasaki motorbikes with a turbo diesel on it so it could run on millitary jet fuel or diesel, had alot of torque.
Now a big push is being made for all new piston aircraft to have diesel engines so they can run off commercial jet fuel.
As outside of the west it's very rare to find an airport with avgas or even quality high-octaine gasoline.
Plus it would end up alot cheaper than avgas and you could do longer trips.
I know they still use some gasoline engines but it's for specialised stuff, no idea what outboard engines take on those really small boats.
They do make them in diesel.
As a brit that lives in the US it amazed me how few diesel cars, pickups and SUVs are on the road as unless it's a sports car or small car it makes no sense to use gasoline as with turbo diesel you get alot of torque, alot of power and the MPG is insane.
I allways get a stickshift turbo diesel, my first car was a slightly smaller version of a vw golf with a 1.9tdi engine in.
Changed the turbo, nozzles, a better clutch and a remap and it was really quick for a first car.
I would put any oil in it (mostly red diesel) and would run just fine.
The alternator broke and I had to wait 2 days for delivery, since the engine did not need electric to run I would just bump start it, no electrics or instruments worked but it still drive fine in a kind of standard limp mode, I just avoided driving it st night and used my GPS to tell the speed.

That’s a good question. Due to the lack of compression in this engine, I am not getting enough heat to actually burn all of the fuel. The second reason is the amount of fuel is still considerably low. When you see diesel trucks blowing black smoke, it is caused from a fuel mixture that is too rich but combustion is still being completed. Soo if I could increase the amount of fuel to air I could possibly have black exhaust. But with the carb I was using that would have been hard to accomplish.

The best thing to can do to blow it up is to run nitro methanol. Yes the rc car fuel. However I high do not recommend it. The flywheels are not rated for the rpms you will reach with nitro fuel. There is an extreme risk of the flywheel exploding. If you look at my other video I run this same engine on nitro. It becomes unstable. The amount of heat generated will cause the ground on the park plug to glow and act as a glow plug. When this happens you can’t shut the engine off. I recommend using a string tied to the carb and stay very far away from the engine when trying to blow it up.
