Your compression is only about 50% of what diesel needs to run with power. That's why a diesel runs with out a sparkplug. It requires different conditions. I was surprised it ran that well while idling. Great video! 👍

Decades ago I worked for an art handling company in Los Angeles. I rode my 1964 Lambretta (2-stroke) to work every day. I had my own parking spot & kept an extra gas can at work in case I needed to fill up, as there's no gas gauge on the Lambretta. One day a co-worker filled up one of our diesel trucks with gas. Once the truck made it back to our lot my "superior/supervisor" Steve bought some gas cans and drained the fuel out of the truck. He didn't have enough cans, so took mine & drained the diesel/gas mix in to my can. I went looking for my can & found out Steve took it. He told me where to find it, but din NOT tell me he drained diesel into it. I filled up before leaving work & blew a head gasket about 1/2 way home. Had to tear down the engine & new top end.
Next day I was 10 minutes late for work, as my Lambretta was my only vehicle & I had to a get ride from co-worker. The same dude responsible for blowing my head gasket then wrote me up for being late! However, he didn't write up the co-worker who drove me, or the other employees who arrived after us!! When I asked why he's only writing me up, his answer was that he "relies on me more". The next day he was late for work, due to a flat tire (which had nothing to do with me.) ~Instant karma. I asked him if he's going to write himself up for being late & quit that job shortly after.
Long story short. Don't put diesel in a 2-stroke.

Then again, diesle has some force when it pops, I dunno. Maybe an instant bent rod? I wonder what would happen if you go the thing up to 13 or 15:1 compression and a glow plug?

During the gasoline shortage in 1973, I started my lawn mower on gasoline then switched over to kerosene. Did the same with a VW Bug then but ran it easy because might burn hole in pistons.

diesel fuel is apparently 1:100 fuel to oil ratio I would like to have seen you added 2 cycle to the diesel so you wouldnt have to worry about lack of lubrication inside the engine but what I think is there is a ratio and a curve where a little diesel fuel added to the gas may give an advantage you should try one tank with 1/8 diesel 1/4 diesel and 1/2 diesel see how performance varies and add the equivelent 2 cycle to get 32:1 which is what I believe what your bike is supposed to run at

Interesting, I believe 2 things where happening.
1 Lots of smoke because not enough compression to really fully burn the diesel. Diesel engines are usually 17 to 22 to 1 .
Second, running lean because the diesel is so thick it doesn't flow through the small jets in the carb.

      17 to 22 to 1 . (17-22:1?)
You must mean the air/fuel ratio. (Stoichiometric ratio). Gas is about 14:1, so if he needs more air or less fuel to get 17:1, he should be running rich now. The viscosity is a factor too, but I don't know how much. The smoke does indicate a very rich mixture, with raw diesel probably blowing out of the exhaust port,---and probably soaked into his silencer packing. lol

@@EarthSurferUSA no he’s correct on compression ratio being at least 17:1 to 22:1. As for AFR 14.6:1 is Stoich but a diesel engine runs from 17-70:1 AFR depending on where it’s at in the load map. Diesels use a Cetane rating vs gasoline using Octane. With a diesel you want ignition to happen as soon as possible since it’s direct injected whereas a gas engine needs knock resistance. Sorry for the long reply 😅

For a carb., the jet's needed to be resized, maybe the metering rod had to be re-located &/or replaced w/ a fatter rod(?) & the air screw needed resetting. I agree w/ a previous commenter, show the tear down & analysis of the engine. You're going to have to go through a lot of experimentation w/ jet's, rod & air screw to make this worth while. Since you're imitating the smoke from a forest fire, maybe switch to a thinner base & head gaskets to up the compression a bit but that won't be similar to a 15.0:1 static c/r. The main feature w/ Diesel is that it's much more difficult to light off from an electrical spark then what gas does. Thanks for the video.

Your compression on a good top end will be about 180 psi. Diesel needs about 300-400 psi. The diesel will also mix with your pil in the bottom end of your motor. Striping the lubrication from the moving parts and eating some seals. It will plug up the spark arrestor as well. Flush your crankcase and neutralize it for acidity. Then replace the crank oil. Replace your spark plug and netralize the carb and the cylinder. P.s. dont do that again.. you can find fuel neutralizer at any chainsaw store. If you really want to kill your bike, put in alcohol and dont re jet the carb. It will sit and burn up the piston while warping the head and you wont be able to shut it off.

If the cylinder plating is not worn out, pretty much just a piston/ring kit and top end gasket kit. Take some scotch brite pad to the plating, if the plating is good to remove the old tarnish, clean it up, and put it together. I just spray some WD40 on the piston and cylinder walls a bit for some lube for the initial start up, and to help seat the ring a bit faster. If you plating is worn out "US Chrome" in Wisconsin has replated cylinders for me, and do a excellent job. It has been a while, but the last time I had it done was about $150.00 also. This is where you are very happy,---you are not rebuilding a 4-stroke.
I have found though summers in Michigan of riding a lot and racing, a crank lasts about 3 seasons, so measure the rod slop, (research it, and the owners manual may have it in there), while you have the cylinder off. And of course, a good practice if having the crank rebuilt, is putting all new bearings and seals in the cases.tranny. However, the pure diesel showed its reluctance to combust BUT when it is hot enough it does.
Don't try that the other way round i.e DON'T try and run a diiesel engine on petrol; that will destroy the diesel engine as it will introduce very high physical stresses by combusting far too early.

I'm surprised it had the compression and sprayed a fine enough mist of fuel to combust.
Diesels still rely on oil for the valves and everything, just like a 4 stroke or gas powered car.. if a Diesel relied solely on it's fuel for lubrication to prevent grenading like a 2 stroke, it wouldn't work either.. in Canada during the winters I run kerosene in my heavy equipment, it's like a thin less oily Diesel, similar to fuel in helicopters/jet engines.. works great in winter, will over heat in summer if you forget to drain it.

Was it enough lubrication without thr 2 stroke oil? I happen to know a two stroke is very dependent on that oil because it sucks in through the bottom of engine (crankcase) and ultimately lubricates everything in the stroke process. Critical... Are all tjr gaskets okay? Crankcase or head gasket okay? I think you could make an excellent update with s full examination of what happened in that motor even if you have to get an experienced 2stroke mechanic to lay out thr details.
