- The one piece of information that can make you a great tech. Honestly this is it. I hate to oversimplify, because there is nothing easy about it. If you want to be great, Embody these few concepts.
www.RealWorldP...
Jim, started watching your videos about 2 months ago and between this one and the other one talking about being the “average” tech is so spot on! That was me for at least 15 years of my career. I’ve been in this industry for 21 years now and was just that “average” tech who was too scared to push myself and too stubborn and dumb to continually learn my craft. I’m living proof to what you’re saying is TRUTH! Great videos man and keep up the excellent work. I have to believe you inspire many. At some point I’m going to set up some time to get down by you to learn some different techniques.
Thanks for the rambling. It made so much sense. Im just starting watching and mentally learning getting ready to buy my first few tools. Coming in to learn
Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts Jim and help others see the larger game.
Your just in to deep with this! I away’s say I’m only as good as my last job.
Hi Jim, I don't even know you but I do really like you. I mean the way that you give from yourself and give from your soul! It`s not really an easy thing to find people that have the ability to share a knowlege, but to trully teach. I'm way far from you and yet still I can understand most if not all of your videos and that`s just because english is not my first launguage. Really thanks thanks and thak you so much for that and I hope to have the chance to keep learning more from you!
Super video thanks for sharing your knowledge and thoughts
The art is everything to me. My back ground is automotive repair, and then auto welding and fabrication. I started trying to learn pdr because an owl hit my hood. I had never heard of pdr, but i welded a wrench handle onto a rod, and started trying to push that dent out. I did better than i thought i would, and someone told me about pdr. It got a hold of me, and i've been hooked on it ever since. I don't care about money. To me, it is about the art. I want to push dents, and i can't put it down.
That’s amazing.
That’s how craftsmen are made.
Not people merely looking for a job, but following a passion.
Just what i needed at the right time. Thanks for taking the time to post this kind of stuff. Ace jim 👍🏽
Man I keep getting comments like this and I love it! I’m so happy that people are absorbing this and it’s helping!!!
Don’t waste half your career like me and never see something you perceive to have failed as a waste. I promise you if you keep those things in mind you will learn and be great 5x quicker.
Excellent talk Jim, one of your BEST! Thanks!
So glad you enjoyed! I’m surprised that people give a shit about my rants. I just feel like mindset is more important than everything with the exception of practice.
@@RealWorldPDRTraining Jim, your presentation in this video didn't feel like a rant. By definition, a rant is to 'speak or shout at length in a wild and impassioned way.' You weren't wild in this video, and that's why your undistracted message and passion today came through so clearly.
Man if i was in the US, id come to you for training. Top guy speaking sense. Btw you piss me off making it look so easy lol. Love your work man.
Hahaha don’t worry, even if I make it looks easy, it’s still hard to me. Just find happiness in tackling the challenges!
Thanks for being honest, you got a big heart brother. I wish I had an ounce of your talent
Jonathan Righetti I try man.
And you do! I’m not a natural dent guy. I’m a dedicated one. Don’t doubt that for a minute. Positive vibes and dedication generally get returned by the universe.
(Weird voodoo I know but I believe it)
It’s kind of like the Masters teach long ago “ Become one with the metal, feel the metal, be the metal!!!” And all will be good, take your time and think about how the piece feels and go with the flow of the feeling and not what you a thinking you should do, sometimes other things work well to!!!!
Damn, this is deep. You can apply this knowledge to every aspect of your life. Thanks from Spain.
Great advice 👍 thanks for taking the time to release your knowledge
Merry Christmas and hope everyone has a Happy New Year! Long time Subscriber, General Automotive Mechanic, with no background in body tech. aside from the occasional bumper cover dent with a heatgun and softball...who has since finding the PDR UA-cam Channels has been fascinated. I am thinking about pulling the trigger and giving hail, door dings, and minor damage a go...I am in MN and have access to a heated shop during non-business hours with a possibility of an as needed one stall heated bay when not needed by our shop...all this being said I will be subscribing to Real World PDR soon with the hope that at some point I can have an opportunity to get rods and hammers in my hand instead of my ratchets and wrenches. Signed, sick of melting snow and road salt dripping down the back of my neck...
Thanks Jim !! This video taught more than PDR tutorial videos
+devils lair those of you that pick up on that are gonna be rockstars....
People only want what thinknthey need. I knew this one wouldn’t get a lot of love, because it’s all about what they really need.
awesome video. makes much sense even if you fail if you keep going and learning from your mistakes, your evolving into a better tech, needed this video today as i felt iv hit a brick wall lol.
Happens to everyone, we all plateau. Push through. Look for something you know you’re weak at, and then make it a strength.
Buy a radically different than you’re used to tool. You’d be surprised how much I learn just from changing up what I’m doing slightly for experimental purposes.
Thanks for the video Jim, it’s really great information,I can (and do) listen to you for hours.I’m really glad I stumbled upon your videos, I hope to sign up to your courses real soon.
Look forward to seeing you there. Never hesitate to reach out!
Great video with great info
Im with you never think your the best lol you could get better and better
I love taking on big dents!
Right from the start, even while I was in training, I took on everything, crazy stuff, because I knew I'd learn, and if I couldn't fix it, it would go to the bodyshop anyway...But my god, in the early days, most times the battle was not with the dent, it was with me and in my head!!
It would go something like this...
1st 30mins - yeah, I can do this, push, push, tap, tap...
2nd 30mins - hmmm, maybe I should have said no to this one... push, push, tap, tap...
3rd 30mins - oh my god, I'm fucking destroying this panel!! Push, push, tap, tap...
4th 30mins - please, if I can just get it to look half decent, I'll never take on a dent like this again! Push, push, tap, tap...
5th 30mins - oh it's actually coming out ok, phew!!! Push, push, tap, tap...
6th 30mins - wow, that came out perfect, well done to me!!
Feelings of relief and a pat on the back haha, it was a mental battle big time...Now I'm fine, I know the dent will come out once I keep at it..
Great videos, keep up the good work
Express Dent Repair Tenerife I go through this exact same thought process with most things I take on that are new to me and after doing it a few times and realizing patience and persistence is key I end up at the point you mentioned where you are fine now and know in the end it’ll be ok... our own minds can be and often are our worst enemies!!
Express Dent Repair Tenerife same here! Just tried tackling one for the first time today and exactly the same thing. Telling myself I’m way over my head here. I feel sorry for the customer because he didn’t get what I thought I could do. But 5 hours later and I honestly didn’t think it was going to get any better and I thought I was gonna end up screwing the paint up. So, I stopped! I quit. Maybe shouldn’t have but I was also at their house. Tying up their time.
@@tracydaniels2982 Hey Tracy, yeah that sucks but hey, I'm sure you learned a lot from it...Don't let it scare you off though, keep studying and practicing..If you're only starting out, I'd get the paid subscription to Jim's Real World PDR or a platform like it. You're always learning in this job! Maybe you approached the dent the wrong way, didn't release pressure in the right place, hidden crowns, wrong tool or light board set up, you'll get more advice in those videos...If you're doing a dent here and there slowly building up your business, you'll only learn and get experience as fast as your getting dents come your way...But if you're studying an hour or 2 of quality video tutorials everyday, how much extra will you learn in a week, a month, 6 months? Follow me on Instagram @damien_the_dentman and you can ask me about any of my repairs, I've some very short before and after videos, if you've any questions I'll try help you out...Or hit Jim up, he might help you out too!
Express Dent Repair Tenerife I am subscribed to big Jim Mitchell’s training. I really appreciate your input and advice. I love it when experienced techs don’t mind sharing or answering questions. It’s guys like you and Jim I look to for advice! Thank you!
Hi, thanks for the great videos and information, I have a question how do you fix the oil canning/panning on a repaired PDR on quater panel on 2017 Rav4?
I’d really need to see it to know.
Love this video. Thanks for the advice and inspiration.
Thank you!
I think this is one of the important videos, I know it’s not what people want to see. But it’s the one I think they should see.
Well said.. thank you.
You were right the first time buddy ! You cannot have a clean looking dent without learning to knock down , if you haven't knocked down crowns on a tight sharp dent first as you know you'll over push too hard and fight the dent ....
so if as you say you'd like to be "a pretty average tech" doing pretty average dents then yeah you won't need to learn to tap down maybe you should just tap out ?? LOL
Thanks for sharing your wisdom
Hey Jim. Try heating a streched panel up with your heat guy to around 160 and rapid cool with a wet rag. Sometimes it's just enough to tighten it up.
Yep been doing that for some time. Great trick. Unfortunately this one was not gonna be having any of that.
Check out pdr before/after videos for a couple of the latest.
I like the way you think. Good video i needed that.
Great advice thx
Mechanical process vs the reasoning. Thank you!
Hey Jim, this might be the best video yet I've watched. Thanks again brother. Keep up the good work. Quick question, who originally trained you when you first go into PDR 15 years ago?
I lucked into a PDR team at the Subaru factory before I even knew wtf it was.
Absolutely love it!
You are a Dent Master buddy ...
Right on
Thanks man,you are awesome!
No YOU are awesome!
GREATLY SAID!! Live and learn and when you think you know it all you are dead wrong! There is always something more to learn, it never ends and it never will! Thanks for the vid makes perfect sense!!
No part of your life is a waste. You are here now, helping others.
👍👍👍
You have to think outside the box !!!
Так хорошо начал-показывал всегда процесс и результат, а теперь одни лекции
Теория немаловажная тоже.
good speech
Thank you.
What are you going to Learn, if you don't do it.......................
