I've only just discovered that, having been in Beeston on the weekend. He lived and died in Bramcote and is buried in the same cemetery as my Mum and Dad - who knew! I've yet to discover why he came to Notts in particular so if anyone can enlighten me, I'd be interested!
I have been searching for this song on UA-cam for at least 10 years. I typed in the search bar "all across this disco room" by Edwin Starr, and I finally found it. I didn't even remember the title. My persistence finally paid off. Thanks, UA-cam.
Edwin used to be a regular on stage at UK scooter rallies in the 1980's. Saw him play a few times, such amazing energy, he was an incredible performer, a total legend.
He was such a strong singer . Word was when he played Luton ( which he did a few times ) the foldback wasnt working . Most singers wouldnt go on if they couldn't hear anything but he just belted his set out note perfect
remember seeing him about 1985 ish at the pier alnighter at morecambe was whipping the crowd up with whats the best scooter? Lambretta crowd cheered or vespa crowd cheered he said he loved us that much for our loyalty over the years that when he got another top 10 hit he would put a free concert on for us scooterists a real performer sadly missed
Saw him at a nightclub on the Isle of Wight in around 1999, he played at Colonel Bogeys in Sandown and I got dragged along by a friend. Best fricking night I had that year. A true entertainer. RIP Edwin, you made my night, I shook your hand, and went mad with your energy and vibes. Such a cool guy.
Im in my 60s i remember this track on the dance floor. Im improvising im dancing in the lounge room. Listening ti this beauty floods back nany fabulous memories thanks Edwin ♥️🥰♥️
I saw Edwin at Virginia Beach in the 1990s,he was great, everybody was dancing! So unforgettable! I remember his disco songs at Disco dance clubs, the dance floor was always full. The good old days.
This was one of my mothers favourite songs and she sadly died a week ago. I have fond memories helping her make her mix tapes for work as she was an aerobics teacher and disco was a regular genre we would use. Miss you so much mum xxxx
I sing this song to my dog! He has eye to eye contact when he knows he has done something wrong! 😂 - Apparently Edwin was a lovely bloke who lived down the road from my husband's great uncle - MANY years ago.

Such a great guy and sad he's gone, I recorded a cover version of WAR with him before he passed away and I'm looking for some major artists to perform on it as well so that it can be released as a benefit single to help the Ukraine refugees . . . .

This song was my & mates favourite disco / soul anthem! Always packing the dance floor at the Tudor arms Trent bridge ( upstairs T/ B/ Inn )
Contact!
Across the crowded disco room
Through a maze of dancing people
She sits so quiet and all alone
Wanting to get the disco fever
And then she raised her head
Her eyes caught mine
And that was all that I needed
In her eyes I saw the need for love
The warm, soft feeling
‘Cause we made
Eye to eye contact
Eye to eye contact (oh oh oh yeah)
Eye to eye contact
(We made) Eye to eye contact
You and me
Contact!
You were looking at me
I was looking at you
You were looking at you
You were looking at me
Across the crowded disco room
Oh, your eyes told me the story
My heart was beating like the drum
As I fought my way over
I never took my eyes away from yours
Not even for a moment
What I saw in your eyes made me realize
(You I wanted) Yeah yeah yeah
Eye to eye contact
(We made) Eye to eye contact (oh oh oh yeah)
Eye to eye contact
(We made) Eye to eye contact
You and me
I was looking at you
You were looking at me
I was looking at you
You were looking at me
Contact!
Girl don’t you get uptight
Just dance
Everything gonna be alright
Just dance
Take a chance
Oh, and dance
I sure like what you got
You sho nuff looking hot (dance)
I sure like what you got
You sho nuff looking hot (dance)
Yeah, come on and dance
