    Everybody hating on Tesla, but personally I think it's really impressive how far the technical innovation has come. I would probably not buy one myself if I had the money due to the lack of sound haha, but you people saying the car is boring and ordinary probably need to rethink...

      YozaStudios No doubt, Tesla is groundbreaking. However, it is simply a computer on wheels and when looking at modern computers and past computers, computers of last year are extremely obsolete when compared to computers of today. The same applies for Tesla. Nobody will ever own a "New" Tesla because the second it is delivered, its already becoming obsolete.

      i throw rocks at blind kids ,what are you talking about ? tesla sold 100,000 new vehicles last year and by 2020 they are projected to sell 500,000 vehicles.now you should think about that they sold 100,000 when the average price is about the same price as bmw 750.2018 the are bringing out the gen 3 which will compete with a bmw 3 series .so for a company that did under $100 million in sales a year now does 2.5 billion in 3 months and thats without having a model that normal people can afford .in the next 5 years they are coming out with convertibles,crossovers,suv and then they will move into budget vehicles .tesla if managed correctly will morph into a company the size of ford,vw,toyota

    • @drytadpole2197
      @drytadpole2197 7 років тому

      Mark Smith I'm not doubting their sales, I am an investor is Tesla myself, just sold 647 shares a few days ago at $261.00/share. I'm doubting the technology. There will never be a "new" Tesla because Tesla's technology is continuously being updated. Already, Teslas pre facelift are outdated because they are not fitted with current Tesla technology. This will continue to revolve in the future; current teslas will become outdated in a year due to new Tesla technology. I will always be an investor as long as they keep making me money, but I don't think I will ever be an owner.

      You see, as a mechanical engineer, I find it ridiculous how people think that Tesla has taken technical innovation further, when in fact, Tesla cars, talking about their drive train, are VERY simple in terms of engineering and tech. Nowhere NEAR as advanced as modern petrol or diesel engines, dual clutch gearboxes, etc. if we're talking about technology. EV motors are not advanced at all, they're basically very simple tech. The motors in the Tesla are no more advanced than motors in electric trams in cities all over Europe, or in any other type of machinery that uses EV motors. It's a very simple tech working on very simple principles that haven't been improved drastically in terms of engineering in a very long time. Making more powerful EV engines is far simpler than making very powerful petrol or diesel engines. Not that it's a bad thing to get a lot of power out of simple tech, but to say they're revolutionizing something or that they're more technologically advanced than other cars is just UNTRUE and totally ridiculous. I always give this analogy to people when they tell me Tesla's are advanced. Do you consider a Casio digital handwatch more advanced than a hand made Patek Philippe mechanical watch for example, just because it's simpler and does the same thing? I don't, because I realize one of a simple mass produced electronic item based on cheap circuit boards, the other is based on incredibly complex engineering and precise manufacturing.

    • @derbigpr500
      @derbigpr500 7 років тому

      "No doubt, Tesla is groundbreaking." - That is just untrue. I'm so disappointed that the vast majority of people are falling for it and know nowhere near enough about engineering to realize that what you think about Tesla is actually the exact opposite of what is true. They're far simpler and less advanced than you think. They use the fact that EV motors are simple to build with high power and torque outputs, and using their acceleration figures to blind people and prevent them from seeing that they're actually selling mediocre cars in every other aspect.The amount of engineering competence required to get 600hp from an EV motor compared to a petrol motor for example is on a totally different level. It's like comparing a Casio digital handwatch to a hand made mechanical Rolex for example. That's why as an engineer I can't have anywhere near as much respect for Tesla as I do for Mercedes for example, or Ferrari, or anyone else building high end cars. We're simply talking about TOTALLY different levels of skill, competence, manufacturing quality, etc.

    Hi, Shmee. I noticed some mistakes:
    ◘ At 21:30 you said you don't have any ability to charge at home. This is not correct. A standard 3 pin UK socket will provide 70 miles charge overnight. You don't need a home charger if you drive less than 70 miles per day.
    ◘ Around 14:50, the reason this car didn't have autopilot is because the software is not ready for Autopilot 2.0 hardware yet. It is not related to the UK law. If you pick an Autopilot 1.0 Tesla in the UK, you can use Autopilot.
    ◘ You talked about how expensive this car is but you never mentioned the more affordable Model 3 which will start production later this year.

    • @Shmee150
      @Shmee150  7 років тому +3

      Thanks Antti for the reply. Troy, with regards to the other two things. The Autopilot in the car I had did not work, so that is why I mentioned it. The Model 3 is not there yet and we have to wait and see when it arrives in the UK. If I would have mentioned all the upcoming new cars, I would have to mention also the options from BMW, Audi and Mercedes available now on the market, and I am not such a 'reviewer'.

      A standard UK 3-pin socket/plug is good for around 13A charging current continuously, though most U.K. residential homes have incoming supplies rated for 63A-100A, so I imagine it should be quite easy to get a higher current supply installed in most households to considerably speed-up the charging process.

    • @troy7774
      @troy7774 7 років тому

      I agree. Installing a home charger in the UK is easy. It costs around £400 and doesn't require upgrade the to power lines. However, the problem in the video is not this detail. In the video he makes it sound like you need a home charger like in the USA. In the USA, residential electricity is 110V. Therefore the standard socket is not enough to charge overnight unless somebody drives less than 35 miles per day.
      However, outside North America, residential electricity is 220-240V and the car comes with a cable that you plug in directly to a standard home socket. He didn't show the cable. He didn't mention how much charge you would get. Instead, he said you can apply for a government grant to have charging facilities installed. That's misleading.
      From a standard 3-pin socket you get 13A*220V= 2.86 kWh per hour and 9*2.86= 25.7 kWh overnight. If 100 kWh equals to 280 actual miles, 25.7 kWh means 25.7*280/100= 72 miles. This is enough for most people and if it's not enough for you, you can always have a wall charger installed for 400 quid. That's what he should have said.

    • @troy7774
      @troy7774 7 років тому

      Hi, Antti. I'm very familiar with the situation in London. In London and in the UK in general, most of the population lives in 2 floor Victorian houses, not in apartments. These houses have a front garden that can be converted to a parking space. In fact, many people already do this even though they drive gas cars because on street parking is not sufficient everywhere. Shmee's personal situation is irrelevant. If he lives in an apartment, he represents the minority. British Gas used to install free home chargers and they installed many of those to the outside front wall of houses.

    Excellent review Shmee!
    As an ex-Tesla employee I can say you did your homework well!
    Just 2 things. 1 was the power of the front and rear electric motors. The one in the back has more HP the one in the front has less. You said it the opposite way ;)
    And the 2nd thing is you didn't press the buttons on the steering wheel! Holding the scroll bar let's you switch between the apps in the dashboard. Left and Right. And the scroll bar on the right is not specified to climate control you can change lots of things, there was a menu butten for all the different options and a voice command button which had lots of capabilities as well!
    And too bad you couldn't show Autopilot in action. It should work in UK too even without the fully autonomous driving. When I saw the review you made about the new 5 series in Spain you used the key to let the car drive itself forward and backwards. That's a feature taken from Tesla!!! You can do the same thing with Tesla's as well with the key fob. And the mobile app is great to show as well! Very clean app with lots of functions :)

      GRPABT1 as ive said. The Tesla will beat any car that is not unique (meaning low production to mass production cars) or ridiculously modified and by that i mean cars that have double or so the power they have stock aswell as many other upgrades. Of course cars can accelerate faster than that but a lot of work needs to be done to do so. And you're mistaken if you think i have not. It's not been anything major but with the help of friends ive built cars. I prefer to make reliable performance rather than pure power (i like both) so im more the type to get a car to really handle and make the absolute most of the power available. I do have a project im currently still planning though

    I have also driven a Tesla and the continuous acceleration is something I can't explain to anyone. It's truly "ludicrous" and like a rollercoaster but this time you are on the road passing by other cars......very scary! You get lots of attention when driving a Tesla, people looking inside the car when you left it parked somewhere or getting a thumbs up on the Highway (because of autopilot). It's an experience for everyone and you do feel very special when driving it. I really like this car and I was a Tesla hater before the test drive LOL. If the mileage was a little better, I would have bought one...but for now you are better off with an S-Class, 7-Series etc. It has the same tech (maybe less advanced or up to date) and triple the range + refilling takes 5 mins max. compared to an hour or so for a full charge.
    Great video Tim, my reactions were exactly the same :)

When the battery are warm both sides of the dashboard change and on the left it displays how much power the motors and battery are producing as well as how fast you accelerated. This change on the dash only happens when the battery is fully warmed and ready.

    Shmee, I know where you were hahahahahah:)) This is in West Drayton Tesla dealership. While I used to live around that area for a short time, I had a space at that green self storage space( forgot its name) and always when passed by Tesla, a big Sigh used to be heard in my car...... Oh well, tried to win it few times on BOTB but no luck even though very close few times. Hope youve enjoyed it.

    Something that is not always appreciated is the traction control (which can't be fully turned off) that will stop you getting into too much trouble even with a heavy right foot. That's the reason the launches were so impressive on a typical wet English road, try that in a powerful ICE car on a surface like that and things can get out of control really fast.

    The auto remember front lift, is even better than you mentioned. Because, if a few people all uses the lift on one place, it will update that point on its map and pish it out to all teslas and your car will lift without you needing to do it. Great if your not concentrating.

    A friend of my father has this car. I have never ever been in a super car ever, I got my drivers license like 2 years ago and since then only drove in an opel insignia with like 120 HP. I saw a lot of videos about uspercars though and thought wow they are fast but man if you experience that in real life, you still can´t believe it. This one moment of me driving in that p100d was like the best day of my fucking life

    You can even launch faster with launch control; press and hold the brake pedal then quick press on accerator and the car will say launch mode ready. Step on the accelerator again and hold it down, then let go off the brake and it goes even faster!

    More than a glimpse of the future - pretty awesome. We are quite simply not destined to propel ourselves with controlled explosions forever. Or look at the most crucial phases of flying - we hurtle along a finite runway to gain enough speed to produce lift, then perform essentially a controlled crash upon landing. Despite advancements, the fundamentals of much of what we do is quite archaic when you think on it.

    Good video introduction. You failed to mention how all the Tesla Supercharger locations are shown on the Sat Nav and how the car warns you in colour , green, to amber to red of decreasing electric capacity, and it also tells you the distance to and time to the next charge location. me very cool car! Also about cost of a charge?

  • @Mandurath

    Tesla and Bentley or Rolls Royce need to collaborate. Go back to when one would make a chassis, drivetrain etc, and then a coachworks would do the body and interior. Tesla provides the underpinnings, the other does the interior and body. Best of both worlds.

    Got a ride in P90D, It was the smoothest, most gentle and quickest way to not being able to breath!. Been in 14sec cars, BMW 5. MB 600, 911. I have a new term ICE-LAG the delay in the acceleration that everything you drive now that's not Tesla or EV. Find a winding road and think about driving and being in the correct gear for every coroner! You think its brutal, but it's not. no gear engage, no dropped clutch.

    My 85D is simply incredible. I still have my Noble M12 GTO-3R in the UK which I consider to be the best of the old world of fossil cars, but I'll never buy another fossil car again. Tesla are making the best cars/SUVs in the world and once their new Roadster is out and Rivian's 4X4s are on the road, there's just no competition any more. God I love cars!!!

    Fantastic car. Impressed with what progress Tesla is making in this segment. Fucking expensive in the beginning always but get the feeling prices are steadily going to decrease as we see more and more of them. True measure of progress will be how prevalent the recharge stations are.
