I watched your first "older" video and then this one on this lens, and finally, I have the lens working and taking great pics. It was a lens that I bought for $5 at a yard sale some time ago. Someone had already been inside of it before I got my hands on it because nothing was working on it, and I think they were eating heavily buttered toast while working on it from all the fingerprints and dirt that was inside this lens. Thank you for taking the time to show how this lens goes together multiple times! YOU HAVE A NEW SUB! 🦅
Mostly followed this process with a Canon FTb / FD 35-70mm F4 zoom combo that I bought on ebay. Took out the three bayonet screws and had to coax the silver ring off. Underneath, it was filled with gunk. Pulled out the ring with all the gizmos attached, exercise it a bit, and replaced it. Cleaned out the silver ring, lined it up pin to red dot, and replaced it. BINGO! Not only did that fix this lens, but a little associated cleanup on the mount of the FTb, and all the bayonet lenses I have suddenly mount where before they would not. Sometimes the issue is as simple as gunk., but without this tutorial I would not have had the nerve to take the lens apart.
Hello Mike, you really make a great job! I already have the same lens the has apperture issue like yours...I'll try to fix it regarding your explaination...I hope I'll get it...If not, I send it to you for professional fixing 🙂 Best regards from Germany. K
Hello Mikeno, thank you very much for this very good video. I had problems with the blade, and with the detailed informations in your video I was able to fix it. Thanks a lot again. Stefan
Hello. I did everything exactly the same as in tutorial (about 50 times), and everything is fine till final locking: there is no way to set two red dots in the same position - the mount rotates and blocking about 7 millimeters earlier. Any ideas what to do with this problem?
hi Mikeno thanks a lot for your tutorials i had an issue with my Canon FD 50mm 1:8, i couldn't set all the apertures so i open it and clean the blades, when i test it pressing the 2 small buttons (like you in the video at 4 minutes ) everything is ok i can set all the appertures from f22 to f1.8 but when i set the lens on the camera i can only set apertures from f1.8 to f8 do you know what's wrong ? Thamks for the help
So, just to check. On an FD-E adapter, to change the aperture you need to be in the OPEN position AND PUSH THE "A" BUTTON IN. Is that correct? That is how it is working here. Shee. It is so much work to use this lens, it is not worth it. Has anyone modified this lens so you can just change the aperture like any other lens?
I think Canon was on drugs when they came up with this lens. So, they responded to the complaints about the FL mount with this mess. The FL mount was fine. I have one.

The act of setting aparture at "22" is a life saving point. Thanks.
Thanks for this! Gave me just what I needed to get a 28mm f2.8 going perfectly.
Thank you, that was a lifesaver tutorial! I was trying (for hours) to figure it out on a FD 28/2.8...

Thanks a lot! Had trouble putting my lens back together.. although it was a different model this still helped a lot with things like alignment!

I need help!! I was able to turn it by pressing the pins, but now I can’t get it to turn back like it did at 5:00
I figured it out, I had to press the side release button ( the one used to remove the lens from the camera body )
Can you show rebuilding the helicoid? Much thanks. :)
I just made this video about that: ua-cam.com/video/6e8nz7ti1bo/v-deo.html
