I found pirate through this video and it’s been a wild ride. I followed her on Instagram for the last handful of months and sadly today the wonderful pirate has passed on. After serious complications with her health (like cancer) the owners decided to lay her to rest. We lost a beautiful soul, thank you to the owners for adopting this beautiful dog. Condolences to the family ❤️.
Rest In Peace, Pirate.
Sorry to read this. But at least she got to experience some real love and happiness before she passed on.
How wonderful that they gave her a loving home and in exchange she enriched their lives and gave them love too. RIP sweet Pirate.
RIP pirate we will miss you
Omg so sad but you have her such love
All dogs go to heaven.

I’m 64, I’ve had multiple dogs, plus cats sometimes, my entire life. I’ve learned a lot about dogs throughout the years. Early this year two of our three dogs passed. It’s was heartbreaking. We’re finally ready to adopt again. This video’s inspired me to adopt the dog/dogs which have been at our local shelter the longest. Thank you very much, you’re good souls. Best Wishes to you & Pirate.
I get that I had 2 shelties that died within 3 months of each other ,nothing heals your heart like giving love to another.we are born with an unlimited amount there's no need to wait a long time dogs teach us and give us so much .the sheltie pup I got after Maggie and teddy is Seamus and he's 13 I know what's ahead but I love him up everyday and try to be mindfully in all the moments I have.
Same here as well. I'm 71and have lost five very loved dogs. I shed a tear when I think of them but smile when I remember the quality that they have brought to my life.
Bonjour et merci Robert pour le brave compagnon que vous allez sortir du refuge 🙏 Merci

Adopt, don't shop! Please take a look at senior animals, they deserve a loving home!
Kill previous owners and adopt don't shop and all pet shops pet stores and puppy mills need to go out of business forever same goes for all kill shelters permanently and shut down all dog meat cat meat horse meat rabbit meat trades
Nah ill pass. Not taking a chance with a 50-50 jail dog that will either be great or be aggressive beyond repair. Ill continue to shop thanks hippie
I love adopting. And I love buying too. I rescued my first dog and just bought my second puppy. And I plan I doing both again in the future. People can do what they want. So let others make their own choices.
Jessie Thomas If you shut down shelters, people would just be dumping their animals in the street to fend for themselves. No-kill shelters don't have the capacity or funding to take in all unwanted pets and keep them indefinitely.
Squad Gangsta It's not a 50/50 chance that it will be aggressive. Shelter dogs make great pets and mutts are usually more healthy than pure-bred dogs and if you get an adult dog, there's a good chance that it's already house broken and past its chewing stage.
Respect for the shelter who didn’t put her down or give up !!! ❤️
Meka"lei"lei 👍👍👍💖💖💖🙌💖💖🐶💖🌈 Rest well at the beautiful Rainbow bridge, sweet girl Pirate! 💜🙏💜💐
why they left a dog in cage for 7 years if its a cage the way im thinking of this place needs to be shut down the humane societies ive visited are usually just a way to make money some allow the dogs to live and enjoy and help besides food and water or paper and some stuff them in a cage until they start barking and dying from a lack of motivation it might be a good place a bunch are not usually government funded ones and hopefully it is but i would never give credit to a so called humane society those places are more messed up then dog pounds sometimes i get euthinization is sad but picking a dog up from a bad humane society is sadder in the sense that you are leaving multiple dogs behind sorry for not being more specific @Lizbit smith / lizbit idiot

She wasn’t always an “old” dog, she got old waiting for a family. She could have been adopted when she was two or three. People just kept overlooking her as she got old. People can be so pathetic. So wonderful that she was adopted and now lives her best life
Anyone who goes into a shelter and comes home with an animal they will love and care for has done a good thing. Pirate just drew the short straw too many times. Not this time though.
@@Ilovelosangeles two years of great memories for her before she passed maybe cancelled out the 7 years of waiting. I adopted a senior Labrador and he passed after having him for three years. I just regret not doing enough. I have a younger Labrador now and he is the apple of my eye and lives life like a King.

This is why fostering is so necessary and so important! When a dog has been in a shelter for a certain period of time, they should be placed with a foster family until they can find a home.
People are saying she died but hey at least 2 years probably canceled out those 7

Silver Tsunami it was so heartbroken that for seven years...... SEVEN HUMAN YEARS did she live in that shelter, alone, no one wants, old, and just tired of life, i mean just sitting there for just a day is already enough for me to handle, but for SEVEN YEARS, like how can a dog live like that, but bless the family for keeping her in a forever home. Btw i changed the days to years because the one i started typing was days
God bless ur family foster parents
Sure can
They are actually the BEST dogs to get since they appreciate everything SOOOOOOO much more than a spoiled puppy/young dog that has never known what it's like not to have a home or owner.
100% Fact
EnderFire 11 i know, the amount time she was in there broke my heart too! So glad she found her forever family! I volunteer at a local shelter in the city I live in & I try to give extra love & time to the dogs who have been there the longest; the ones who seem kind of forgotten. But just last week a big, stocky bull terrier mix got adopted & we all cried because he was there so long (5 years) & we all got so attached to him (esp this summer spending so much time together) but seeing him leave w/ his new forever family made our hearts soar! 😊😭 He had the biggest, goofiest smile on his face! It makes me happy every time I think about it!
Wow ; that was the most beautiful story of adoption I've ever heard ..😢
There are many beautiful adoption storys.. but yes, it was 😢❤
The easiest way to see the quality of a person is to watch how they treat their dog. These are two very special people indeed.
Oh my gosh, gushing tears of joy Pirate has a new home! She finally gets to be a puppy!
It's really nice that there are shelters that will shelter and take care of a dog for years. It's not as good as a house and home, but it is still nice of them to provide them with that and not give up on them.
starlite33 yep no kill shelters are the best shelters 👍🏾😊 like you said, it wasn’t a home but at least she had a chance for a new life eventually!
@@jonjb4025 are you saying that the kill shelters are the best shelters?
succ my ass lol what? No, man, the NO-KILL shelters are the best! Btw, your name made me lol 😂
I met a woman who worked at a shelter that had one of the worst jobs ever. She had to choose daily which dog or cat got put down. I don't care what I was being paid I couldn't do a job like that. It would be soul crushing.
@@Jim26D yes it is terrible and it doesn't seem right, but I don't know what the short term solution is when there are not enough spaces or no kill kennels available and not enough people to adopt the dogs. Here in Michigan every six months or so there is a news report of a discovery of a dog hoarder who has 50, 75, or even more dogs in their house and the dogs are living and dying in horrible conditions. I think sometimes these dog hoarders think they are doing the right thing by taking in dogs to keep them from being executed at dog pounds but dog hoarding like that is not the answer either.
My best friends family always adopts very old dogs to give them an amazing last few years. It's very sad when they pass away but it must also feel so great to give a dog that..

I adopted a nine year old dog and was his 3rd person. He was so dejected, like 'I know how this ends" and had such low expectations. It took seven months telling him 'you are here FOREVER", before he trusted that. He's 13 years old now, and the best happy boy---best part, he's such a great dog, he's inspired people who've met him and hear his story not only to RESCUE, but to consider an older dog Best decision I ever made. Love you YOSHI..
I love this 🥹
Bless you for taking on your 9 year old doggie. Glad he is 13 now and doing well. X
I'll tell ANYBODY who will listen that older dogs make the BEST pets EVER!! Most shelters (I believe) have a senior for seniors programs, so you can pick up a senior dog for nothing. They're happy to get the older dog out of the shelter and YOU get a NEW best friend.
I wish they came with a 5,000 dollar vet gift card
This hurts my heart so much. How could such a sweet-natured girl be overlooked like that? 💔
Sooo glad they found her and gave her a home. Wish there were more people like her. We have given two senior dogs forever homes. The first was 6 she lived 8 more years. The sweetest dog and I'm so glad we were able to give her a loving forever home. Then a year and a 1/2 ago we adopted a 9 year old dog and so far she is doing fantastic. Zooming and plays all the time.

When I get my own home and I am earning enough to keep pets, I am strolling into a shelter and adopting two elderly animals. The most unlikely pets to get adopted are the ones with special requirements like two animals that don't want to be separated, and the elderly animals. I want to find the animals no one else has taken and give them the life they deserve
Wonderful! You are an inspiration 💙

My friends all have new puppies, but when I get a dog, I will get one that deserves a chance. The younger pups can be adopted easily, and this is my decision. Like if you agree
Yea do that!
Leanne Rush I think a dog is considered senior by like age seven or so. So you could potentially get another seven years depending on the breed
And honestly, pirate acts more like a puppy than a senior. You saving a senior pup could have the same effect.
I still have my dog and she is almost 16

looking at her act like a puppy is so great. she still has a lot of life yet. ty for the video
Exactly what I thought. She looks so much younger in her home, with her humans! She just needed love....
People who pass by the senior dogs just don't know what they're missing! Yes, you'll lose them a lot sooner than with a puppy or younger dog, which is always very sad. But I always adopt seniors because they're pretty much ready to go, usually needing little training- plus they're just so very special and deserve to live the rest of their lives comfortable and well loved! I'm now on my 5th..
Good for you Rob! Thank you
I agree. I've had the puppy before, and yes it's sweet, but it's a lot of work!! I've been privileged to adopt 2 dogs (at different times) both age five! And it, to me, is the BEST dog age ever! One was male, the next female, and it didn't matter- they were just so perfectly aged! They were what I called "set in their ways" and you pretty much "get what you see" with them! Plus! They really never lose the "puppy" in them either. Not until it's time to pass on anyways. Unfortunately for my first baby Bogee, we have had to go thru that experience. With my 2nd baby girl, she is luckily with my mom now. My family became homeless and I was so blessed that my mom had always loved Patrone, and had always wished she could take her! Lol. So when her house burnt down, and she lost her fur babies- and then I was having to move out of our home- a perfect solution came about! Mama got to love on Patrone the way she loved her own babies. And we didn't have to lose Patrone, or give her to someone we didn't know! I really miss having her in my bed at night though. And we have our own home again- but I couldn't imagine asking to take her back from my mom. It's kind of a hard thing, but a very good thing. If that makes sense?? I'm rambling and crying now. Just give older dogs a chance!! They're amazing!! ❤
5th?! Jesus christ your heart
@@roxannerodriguez7075 I'm so very sorry for your hardships, but thrilled you all hung in there & made it to the other side! same
It's nice to know there are still angels in this world like you guys.
The people who just passed her by are not true dog lovers. That beautiful smile. Amazing what love can do
God bless both of you for your kindness and love for this loveless poor animal.
@Guru Amirite Finally got her crew :)
I have been inspired. When I adopt a pup, I will get on that is overlooked/been in a shelter very long and a rescued dog.
I saw a video where this lady went into the shelter and said "I want the dog that's been here the longest and that's the least likely to be adopted. I want the ugliest dog that everyone over looks." You should have seen the dog she ended up with! But it just loved her so dearly and she couldn't have been happier :)
Yeah, but RIP
Jameson Z - All of us are mortal...there are no guarantees on how long a puppy will live.
@@drunkvegangal8089 incredibly true, may pirate rest in peace.
Allison Ramos that is good to hear Allison.. I’m glad to hear that💯💯
Pirate is an inspiration to any animal waiting on their forever home. But it’s on us to give that to them! Let’s get these babies some loving homes! 🐾❤️🐶🐱
What wonderful people! This is a wonderful story and I’m so happy this dog got a forever home. Bless you all! ❤️❤️❤️
You have just motivated me to make my choice an older dog. Thank you xox
No, thank you!
Show your kindness to any poor and helpless animals as you did and the Karma will shower you and your family with unexpected positive things in your lives in return.
Cool ✅
senior dogs are the best
Tsering Sandup I did that with my 4 rescue cats. One was 12 years old and she lived to be 17. She unfortunately went blind 3 years after rescuing her but I still loved her no matter what. She passed away a few months ago while sleeping next to me.
Now I’m considering fostering cats senior cats. However I don’t do the things I do for good karma. I feel like it’s in my nature to be kind.
Why can’t we give a thousand thumbs up?!?
God bless you Jennifer for adopting Pirate and loving her.
Thank you for adopting her and showing her story maybe more ppl will adopt an older dog and a dog that lived in the shelter for a long time beautiful ending I am glad for pirate ❤
The instant joy in her eyes and smile when she walked into her only forever home is so wholesome and Heartwarming ❤ Thank You for providing her with a safe and loving home & family
This brought tears to my eyes. Older dogs deserve our love too. Thank you guys for your love to her, she's beautiful.😇💟

Best dog we ever had was an old dog named Heidi. We adopted her at age 9 from a local animal shelter. She lived for about 3 more years. She was so happy and grateful for her life and we loved her so much. RIP Heidi 💕💕🙏😇
Yvonne Murff you are a hero
they finally get the life they deserve.
I also have a dog named Heidi that was adopted from a shelter at age 9! It's been about 3 years now and we're still going strong:)
Rest in peace Heidi❤
Tears.....
Lady you are the very best of what humanity has to offer if I adopt I'm going to go for an older dog
Scott Bentley YOU are the best too if you adopt an older dog! 😊
@@jonjb4025 Agreed!
Scott Bentley me too!!
After watching the Dodo videos about senior dogs, my next dog will also be a senior. 😊💕🐶🌈
I am thinking about adopting an elder dog. I’ve never had a dog, only cats. Methinks it’s time for some puppy (they all are deep down) love ❤️.
First of all, Pirate's got one of the cutest most adorable faces I've ever seen. Her picture caught my attention immediately. I can tell she's a very special fur baby! It's so sad and ridiculous that she waited so long for you,but I am so very happy and grateful that you found her and took her home. Thanks for cherishing and loving her. She deserves the best. I'd love to see how she's doing now!! God bless you!!
Right? What a total cutie pie!! :)
Thank you for this great reminder that everyone deserves to be loved, especially these sweet senior dogs who have so much to give to their families. I am so sorry she was overlooked for 7 yr. but your heart of loving kindness, especially going for 2 months to the shelter to connect with her and bring comfort is an inspiring example of altruistic love. ❤️🙏🇺🇸⭐️
You are the best kind of people society could ever have. Shelter pets are the BEST! Thank you for doing what you did.
You are awesome.
Jason Philippy that’s the truth!
You took the words out of my mouth. Love you!

I don't understand how Pirate kept getting "passed over." She's such a cutie!
I know, she's the cutest thing ever! She's the one I'd make a beeline toward, thank God for this wonderful girl who felt the same way!! Old dogs are the absolute best! ❤❤❤❤
Such a magnanimous couple who only wants the best for the dog. She is such a big hearted lady. Bless her and her family.

Thank you to the great people who adopted him. Such a beautiful dog. I thank them for there service as well
Take care bill.
A dog at any age is a gift but a senior dog has wisdom to know and thrive with love because he/she has experienced loss.
At last, Pirate knew real love. ❤
How nice of you, thank you so much for taking care of this beautiful dog and making her happy.
Mahlo for giving her a second chance in life this is such a beautiful story and ty for your service. God bless
