Mine and my partners plan is to own a house with a huge garden & have my own graphic design business working from home by 40 so I can foster and rescue senior dogs! It's 13 years away, but I'm rather excited...
Can we take a minute to appreciate the fact that this woman has fostered over 500 dogs? What a kind soul. So happy she took in that adorable little guy.
It's been a depressing week for me but I love seeing stories like this where an older dog is valued and treated with dignity and respect and love and care.
Same here. Also 72, and to think that is what some people do to you when you get old. It does happen to elderly people everyday, it's called nursing homes. Scary and very sad to think about.
I AM 76.....SERIOUSLY WOUNDED DURING SECOND VIETNAM COMBAT TOUR 18 JULY 1968........AGAIN MID DECEMBER 1985.....ON POLISH/EAST GERMAN BORDER DURING MY SEVENTH.....AND FINAL....36 HOUR, “PINK SLIP” BYE BYE MISSION TO SEND VERY DESERVING EAST GERMAN STASI OFFICERS....DIRECTLY TO HELL!!!
Ma'am you are obviously very spunky and I have a feeling that you are probably like a ray of sunshine to those around you because of your spunk. If you are considered "old as dirt" than we should all be so lucky to be as graceful as you are about it when we become your age. 😊
@@wilhelmgeisler2124 Sir, thank you so much for your service. I feel quite broken hearted for you brave men who sacrificed so much especially when you have to witness some of the things going on in America this day and age. God bless.
@@wilhelmgeisler2124 I remember the horrible way returning vets were treated by hippies and young political liberals. Beyond horrific and so bewildering. My brother did 2 tours in Vietnam as well. God bless you.
I've adopted two "old as dirt" blind dogs. First one lived to 19. Present one is 18 and still going strong and living the dream. I love puppies, but old dogs are the dearest, sweetest fur babies to adopt.
And old doggos need homes so badly! You could've chosen any dog and you chose them! And they are living a great life because of you! ❤ I wish I was in the position to have another dog again. It was a very memorable and rewarding experience.
Almost ANYONE can adopt a puppy, but it takes real character, insight, love, and grace to adopt an older dog. God bless you, ma'am. This is very humbling to have watched this.
I don't think I could handle it. I still occasionally wake up sobbing, from nightmares about my childhood dog dying. I'm 34, now, and not a very emotional person - but that just kills me. Having to deal with that so soon after becoming attached... I think it might break me. I love dogs more than humans. But I know I couldn't handle losing a dog that soon after falling in love with it. 😭 I'm glad there are people like this, who are strong enough to give elderly dogs the end-of-life they deserve, because I couldn't.
@@Acidfunkish sounds like a new adoption would be a good thing for you, I know where your coming from as I also get extremely attached to pets but just think from your dogs point of view - would they want you to be forever sad or would they want you to give another animal the great life you gave them? ✌️
I have taken a senior, neglected neighbourhood cat under my wing and do what I can for her whenever I can. She does seem to have a home but she is out far too much - in pouring rain, cold, heat, etc - without protection, food, water, so her owner(s), shame on them, are far from responsible. I would never leave my kitty like that, day in and day out. So, when I can, I look after her - drying her off if she's wet from the rain, holding her, chatting to her, feeding her lots of food (and kitty treats, which she loves even more!) and giving her water to drink. She is always so relieved to have someone looking out for her and making sure she is okay and she has THE loudest purr I've ever heard! I have no idea of her exact age but she is old - she has few teeth and has gum disease but otherwise seems fairly healthy.. I love her and will be devastated when she's not around anymore. Anyone who has a big heart and has the ability to do so should adopt a senior animal in need of a good home, regardless of how long they may have left to live. Even a few days, weeks, months with a senior animal - giving them love and care - is priceless and one of the best, most rewarding things anyone could ever do, for themselves and for the animal.
@@leicestergirl63 I moved into a house several years back and was feeding 2 outside cats. Both were skittish about being touched. The long hair cat always had green goop in his right eye. During the polar vortex a few years back, he couldn't walk more than 2 steps without falling over. I scooped him up and took him to the vet. He had been a former pet, not chipped, declawed x4, and only 2 tiny front teeth left but lived outside for years. He has idiopathic vestibular syndrome which causes him to lose his balance and walk with his head tilted when it flares up. Eye drops, ear drops, anti parasitic meds, antibiotics, anti vertigo, and anti nausea meds were all prescribed. He's much better now and the flare ups are rare. He still tries to get out whenever he can but is otherwise doing good. The other short hair cat is very friendly but not enough to be picked up. I bought a little house with a heat mat he stays in on the deck. He'll come inside until he hears a noise or the door starts to close and then he bolts. A few years back he was getting in fights so I had him neutered. That seemed to help if it was other cats. If it was raccoons, I think the dog has finally scared them of the property.
Holden's like an old man who walks into a 7-Eleven and uses his last few bucks to buy a Lotto ticket then hits the Jackpot! Way to go Holden--you deserve it sweet boy!
I need stories like this to get me through the day. The world is so damn depressing lately it is nice to see that there is still good people out there working to make it a little bit better.
Every dog, but especially every senior, deserves to see the light of day and the warmth of a bed with a full belly, and the arms of a human that loves them more than anything else. My heart melts with joy to see a senior get a home and the endless love and Golden Days they deserve.
Fair Witness, I too, am so happy to see a senior dog get his forever home! He went through so much, with the tumor, surgery and rehab, he truly deserves his new forever home! If I was younger, had a house with a big backyard, I’d love to foster a couple of dog’s! But I live in an apartment and I have two kitties and an aquatic turtle! I know that my husband would love to have a dog, but it’s not fair to keep a dog in an apartment, dog’s need a yard and my husband agree’s with that.
something about these older despairing doggies... who finally get some real secure and stable love... so beautiful to see and learn about... God bless all you nice folks...
When I was deployed. My wife divorced me and gave my three pugs to the animal shelter. I found my two oldest pugs on a Facebook group and got to watch them in their new forever home. The people that got them really loved and cared for them and it was easier for me to know that they were better off with their new family. Loosing my babies almost killed me. Finding them safely taken care of by wonderful people like this, saved not only my two oldest babies. But, saved me too. To everyone who fosters, thank you, thank you, thank you. Sincerely an old Marine
Ryan Rivard, I’m so sorry that you’re ex-wife gave up your dog’s to an animal shelter, but I’m happy to hear that the two older dog’s found forever homes! Do you know what happened to the third dog? I’m praying that it found a loving forever home also! God Bless You!🙏🏻
@@sherrydepew8815 after I found out that she had given my babies away to a shelter I didn't want to know what happened to the 3rd one? I simply didn't want to hate her more than I already did. I learned valuable lessons in powerlessness and turning things out of my control to the God of my understanding.
Ryan. Similar scenario for me. I rehomed my dog, a Red Doberman, before I deployed. It was a good move. Spent six years as a single guy with no pets. My current wife and I have had 3 labs (latest will be 21 weeks old tomorrow), a Miniature Pinscher, a Toy Fox Terrier, and a whole bunch of cats. All (except the puppy) are in our private pet cemetary or on the shelf of a bookcase in urns. Semper Fidelis, jarhead. Fair winds and following seas to all.
@Willa-jane's opinion yes. I have a pug named Bailey who I rescued at 7 weeks old. She a wonderful companion and I got her a little companion rescue cat, named kat. Kat keeps Bailey company while I work. Thank you for asking and have a wonderful day
I'm 49 years old and I cry every time I see these types of videos. My lady said why do you watch them if they make you feel sad? I said they always have happy endings. Gives me hope for humanity. 😊🙏
Oh heavens no. Fortunately, there are actually MANY MORE people in this cruel world who HAVE hearts than those who do not. WE KNOW tears of joy quite well. And they feel OH SO GOOD!!! These tears run down our faces freely... for Holden & for ALL innocent animals who are SO VERY WORTHY of happiness, of unconditional love & of a forever loving home. 💕💕💕🙏💕🤗💕💕💕
They never judge you! They just love you and unconditionally! My dogs have always loved me more than people. Dogs rule, oh cats, too! And all pets!❤🐶🐱🐇😁
The part where she said "I have now fostered over 500 dogs" was when I started crying. This woman has dedicated her life to making this world a better place for animals. So much respect & appreciation for her.
That is when I started to cry too. Finding a forever home without a lot of dogs to compete with him is better for him. Wonderful story. Holden. How precious.
I think we all want the love and security of a “forever home that will never change”. It is a privilege to provide that for a dog. Dogs bring out the best in humanity.
I can't express enough all the love I feel for these ppl who rescue and find forever loving homes for these sweet animals. You will be rewarded in heaven 🙏💞
To see him go from being in the kill shelter being called "as old as dirt" by his then owner to seeing him safe and happy snuggled up on his big bed with his stuffed animal is everything. ❤️
These stories always bring tears to my eyes. We adopted a senior dog. He lived to be 17 he had in operable cancer. The cancer was surrounding his spine. With a raw diet and Essiac he healed. Within a year his cancer shrunk to the size of a white acre pea. He was 10, lived 7 wonderful years with us! He turned from a silent dog, to the most talkative dog we have ever had the pleasure to have!!! My son wanted his own dog. We had always had dogs. And he chose a senior. He chose the most wonderful dog! He was his shadow. Don’t forget about the elders. Give them a taste of true love and bonding! If but for a few months or years. Open your hearts, you will truly see, how appreciative and loving a lonely old soul can be... 🖖🏻
MzClementine, You’re absolutely right! My husband and I rescued an older cat. We were told that she was 13yrs. old. Her previous owner was going to have her put down. I couldn’t let that happen, so my husband and I took her in. She is the most loving cat I’ve ever had. She sleeps with my husband or myself. In the beginning she was shy and hide under our bed, but it wasn’t long when she finally opened up to our other cat and now she’s the queen of the castle. Our male cat was jealous in the beginning, but he’s now friends with her! They chase each other around the apartment and play. Sometime’s she gets a little too rough with him, that’s when we put a stop to their horseplay! I’m so happy that we gave her a forever home, because she deserves it!!! Every animal deserves a forever home with a loving family. Every animal I’ve ever had, has been rescued. I would never turn my back and leave an animal to live on the streets or in a home where they’re not being cared for. If and when my husband and I want another pet, we will go to a “no kill shelter” and adopt from them. If you’re looking for a pet, please go to a “no kill shelter” and find your pet there! You will be happy you did.
Essac is a God given herb, my aunt had cancer all through her body,Dr.said three months at best, took her to Mexico, they put her on Essac to drink she was 61, lived until she was 97.
"He's old as dirt" Age is part of having a pet. You don't get forever puppies. Pets are our pest friends and rely on us just like our own children, you're supposed to be there for them through everything, that's what friendship means.
That reminds me of our neighbours old dog lady who died this year. She was at least 15 years old and despite her being so weak that she couldn't climb stairs easily and would often bark at us untill she smelled us, cause her eyesight was really bad, she was still as sweet as I remember her from when I was a child. 😔 Rest in Peace Elsa.
There is a very special place in Heaven for people who are kind to vulnerable, dependent animals in need -- and who open their homes & their pocketbooks to give them the gift of a new life.
I had smote for 6 months before he left ,he was old and his owner died ,there was no ware for him to go so i had him ,the pain of loosing him still pulls on me . I want them all, but I cant do it as I think I would loose my mind with grief . so to all those who give there harts to older dogs and the love and safety they need in there final years you are stronger and better than me and i love you for it .
His tail never stopped wagging! Even when he was sick, scared & in pain, he still put out what bit of energy he had to be happy. I Wonder how his old owner would feel if their spouse kicked them to the curb when they're sick & "Old As Dirt"?!? I'm glad he found true love & happiness. His old owner didn't deserve him, or any other pet for that matter!
3 months ago I adopted a senior from the shelter. He seemed so sad and dejected. When he arrived to his new home with 2 younger dogs, he came to life and he’s acting like a puppy instead of an 8 year old
discdoggie, God Bless You, for giving a senior dog a forever home and family! I’m sure he will give you as much love as you give him! I don’t know why people think an 8yr. old dog is a senior dog? I think he’s in the prime of his life. Thank you again for giving him his forever home!🙏🏻
Awww, I owe the thanks to the shelter. I was having a depression/funk I couldn’t snap out of. Puppies are adorable of course (my 3 year old mutt was adopted from Atlantic county SPCA as an 11 week old puppy. Litter of 8 born in a Georgia shelter and they transferred half the litter north to ACSPCA.). It’s hard to resist puppies. In February before stuff got all crazy with virus I thought maybe rescuing a dog that NEEDS to be saved. No puppies, as adorable as they are, because they always get adopted. No dogs in foster homes because they were safe for now in foster and weren’t in immediate danger. So I saw Leon (formerly Justify) on Voorhees Animal Orphanage’s site, his case was being highlighted for Save a Senior Sunday. He was surrendered because his owner died. His adult children couldn’t be bothered to rehome him on their own, just dumped him off. 😡. He was adopted after about a month but sadly had to be returned because he and the cat did NOT get along. Thankfully I don’t have cats. So another 3 months in the shelter (for the record it is a lovely shelter with an amazing staff who truly care for their doggies and kitty cats) until I applied for him. I went to visit the first time, and he seemed so sad I said I need to bring him home today!!!!l”. But they do a thorough vet and reference check so it was another week and then I got a call to bring Bug and Jack for a meet and greet. Jack gets car sick and it’s an hour away so he couldn’t come. Meeting all household pets before approving am adopting is strict policy, but I showed up with Buggie anyway and pled my case. The meet and greet went “fine”. Bug was her usual exuberant self, and he was just so gentlemanly and well behaved. They did approve the adoption so he came home with us that afternoon. It was obvious from day one he was most definitely a loved and well cared for dog by his deceased owner. I just suspect he was an only dog because while he was FINE....wiggly his half tail stubby like crazy, letting them sniff him all over, he didn’t know how to “play” and trust me, Buggie tried constantly. I said “it’s cool dude. You can just live out your golden years lying around napping. It’s all good by me.” Rescuing a dog from a shelter situation is what MY depression needed. I felt good. I felt I “saved” him. Each day, though, he watched and he followed. “Oh, we’re supposed to whine and get excited when breakfast food bowls are being prepared? Okay, I can do that.” He’s not a barker, but jack is a schnauzer and anyone who knows anything about them knows they BARK. Thank god he hasn’t picked that habit up but he’ll whinny and moan instead. “Oh, we’re supposed to make noise when the vaccume cleaner is running? Got it.” He just follows them around, particularly Buggie, learning and copying day by day. He JUMPs for joy getting ready for daily morning and afternoon walks. They’re all gonna be bummed when quarantine is over and I’m called back to work. Now when Buggie “bows” at him in play posture, he responds. He loves being part of a pack. If they’re outside, he’s gotta be outside. If we’re outside and Bug hears the mail truck and screeches to go in so she can screech at him through the front bay window, Leon has to follow her too. “Oh, we make high pitches noises when the white truck comes? Good to know. Pretty sure I can do that.” He’s eager to learn and eager to please. Not just the humans who live here, but also the canines. My wish is that the second half of his life he feels as loved and happy and cherished as he did in the first half, as it’s clear he was his owner’s best pal. It must have been so confusing and heartbreaking to be dumped there, even though as far as shelters go it’s top notch. I never dreamed it would so quickly cure my depression. He is much loved. And acting like a goofy puppy PLEASE everyone, consider shelter or foster rescue of a “senior” dog. I know at first I worried about getting attached and then losing too soon. But he has a second chance at life and he’s cherishing every moment, and loving every day
discdoggie great story!!!! I have adopted a senior too and he acts like a young man. He lived his life in a violent home where he was abused it took him about a year and a half but he’s living his best life everyday and enjoys everything. I love the seniors !!!
Our 12 yr old Malamute came to life and lived another three years after we got a puppy. She was like, I'm not going anywhere!!! She potty trained and disciplined the new pup, made him into the best dog we ever had....
I honestly think seeing a cosy, safe, happy doggy is one of the most satisfying things ever!! ❤️🐶 Hope this distinguished senior boy lives out his best life with his lovely new owner.
I've watched this several times because it's such a nice story about an obviously sweet, affectionate, cuddly doggo who finally gets all the cuddles he wants.
It always amazes me how, after all their extreme suffering, these dogs can exhibit such affection and trust towards humans. I'm so pleased that this dog finally got a better life and the love and care that he deserves.
The last scene, where Holden is happy in his own bed, in his new loving home, snuggled with his plushie, just chilling, it's just so heartwarming! I'm so happy for him! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
What a gentle old man Holden is. No matter how old, these dear furry friends deserve nothing but love and kindness - this is what the world should be. Just look into their eyes and realise they deserve love. Thank you Carol...
I lost my pup of 12-1/2 years in October to hemangiosarcoma (tumor on his spleen). His tumor, sadly, wasn't benign. The cancer had spread everywhere. Losing him was the saddest, most devastating day of my life. RIP Eli. We'll see each other again soon. So glad Holden's tumor was benign and he found a furever home. Senior dogs are the best! I just adopted an awesome senior. Turns out he also has cancer, but that's okay. He's responding very well to chemo, and I'm determined to make the last portion of his life the best ever.
Me and my family just lost our Beagle, Maggie of 15 years and I know that feeling of losing a family member. So sorry for your loss as well. The vet that came to our house to help Maggie say goodbye sent us a very nice card with the story of the Rainbow Bridge where your pet waits for you to see them before you both go on to heaven, it’s a beautiful story and sentiment and I hope if you haven’t heard of it yet then it will bring you peace.
@James & @Topher I’m incredibly sorry for both of your losses. You and your families will meet your fur babies again one day ☺️ In the meantime, hold onto the memories tight and if you’re able to love another pet or two ;) in their honor, GO FOR IT!! ❤️
Bless you Sir for giving your heart to an other furry friend, it's heart breaking when you have to say good bye but love never die's you have so many memories of your last friend & that is a gift to treasure alway's, Best Wishe's to you,
@@tzgaming207 You say it like it's a bad thing, definitely not a deal breaker in my book. Whatever gets you the best treats, and the most pats, I'm all in. ☺
So much to be said for adopting an older dog. We did, and “Lucky” was a wonderful dog who lived with us for many years, and helped raise a puppy who came to us as well. She was also mostly blind, and had inner ear damage from an old infection. But, she was full of life, and gave us so much joy and love. Give these sweet dogs a home. You will be forever glad you did.
What an amazing story. Both of these women have hearts as big as the sky.God will bless them both for their loving hearts.Would'nt it be a much better world to live in, if everyone showed such kindness as these two wonderful women? May God bless them both .They are an example we all should strive to be like, with their kind and giving hearts.
I cried too. Can you imagine being thrown away because you are too old? What is the matter with some people? Poor Holden looked so sad, but now he has a new, beautiful home and family. These videos always touch my heart.
Wow.... that dog had a regular home at one time. Something happened. I found a senior stray once that was like that. She turned up in my yard one day out of the blue. She understood all the basic commands, sweet disposition. I had her 8 years until she passed away. I still miss her. 😔 .
George B: What happened was clearly that Holden's former owner was a selfish, indifferent a**hole. Nobody who's decent and caring would neglect a pet, leaving them to suffer with ailments, etc, and then abandon them, in Holden's case with the vile words "old as dirt". That owner should rot in hell and god help any other animals they may have.
How can anybody not fall in love with Holden? He's such a gentle sweet innocent affectionate older puppy! 🐶❤️😘🙏👍Holden , you've suffered so much. Now it's your time to shine! To love ! To live! To be Healthy! Enjoy your happy life with your wonderful forever loving family, sweet heart! 😘
Same here. I fostered a dog because he was self harming in kennels and was just totally shut down and depressed. It was only supposed to be for a few weeks till they could find him a forever home, and he's been here three years now. He's the happiest, most chilled and silly dog I've ever owned. He's super affectionate and is very vocal when he wants something. He's a staffie boxer cross and is going nowhere. i fell in love with him the first day he was here and he shows me how much he loves me all the time.
I couldn’t be any happier for Holden and his new family. I can’t imagine calling any dog “old as dirt”, as us dog lovers know, none of them are here with us long enough as it is. I’m there from the first day to the final day and even though those final days are excruciatingly heartbreaking to lose who we love, (I just lost my soul mate pup May 1st), who was almost 10 with no notice no warning. Passed in her sleep next to me. I’m still crying rivers over her, as her and I spent nearly every moment together most all of her years. I’m 58 and been thru hell with relationships and family but none of my loving dogs ever let me down and I try to think I never did them either. Just starting over with a 21 month rescued Golden Retriever who’s got a fabulous comedic and loving personality I think she knew I might need after losing the one before her. We can never replace them and I’d never try, but the love of a dog is like none other. I knew not only my mental health was suffering but my physical too, from the depression and grieving, of which there’s no expiration date on. I hope Holden lives happily and comfortably as long as possible. He knows he’s loved in his new forever home. ♥️
Oh, Nancy, my heart breaks for you. It's so hard to lose a fur baby. There are no words really to convey what that sadness feels like. And I know they can never be replaced but there are so many fur angels out there who desperately want love and to love. When my 15 year old cat Nelson passed, I adopted a little fella named Oscar. My kids were crying with sadness AND joy at the same time. I'm 55 and I can totally relate to what you said about horrible relationships. I love dogs and cats but for some reason cats started adopting me 30 years ago so that's what I've always had since. I believe without animals, life would be unbearable. I hope you and your new baby are doing well and are happy! Peace and love to you, friend.
Theresa 410 Thanks so much Theresa 410 There really are no words to express the pain of losing our Dear Pets. They are family for sure when family isn’t there or someone says they were “just a dog”, and to get another one if you want one so bad. None of mine were just dogs, like I’m sure your cats weren’t just cats. They have personalities that I’ll always cherish the memories of. Each one so different but each one so very special in their own way. I know what you mean about crying in sadness and Joy! I’ve felt guilty feeling joy at times with Star, who’s so very different as she should be, and how she makes me laugh at just how she smiles with her whole face! I’ve never seen anything quite like it. Her grin has been compared to Graucho Marx!! 😂 You can see her teeth on both sides of her mouth when she smiles so huge! 😁😁 I love her and I know we’ve bonded but the sadness of my Sophia is still very fresh in my mind and in my home. You can never get rid of all of a Golden’s fur! And I don’t think I want to! I have memories of her that I’ll always have like those before her too, but she was the one who got me through the hardest times of my life and for that she’s an angel 😇 in heaven or over the rainbow 🌈 bridge. Wherever they go is where I hope to be someday ✨🌟💫 💛❤️💚💙💝
@@Symnsn Oh, if heaven doesn't have animals then I don't know if I want to be there.........I believe they are, though. The way I see it, animals and music make life bearable for sure, and they are such pure innocent beings you can't help but be joyful around them. I was laughing at the way you described Star's smile. She sounds adorable. I know what you mean about feeling guilty at times. When I lost my cat Nelson, I got another cat, Oscar not long after even though my heart was still broken. But the little guy just brightened up our lives and I found that I still had plenty of bottomless reserves of love to give. I wish you and Star much love. :)
Theresa 410 Thank you again, Dear Theresa! People like yourself are oftentimes what gets me through tough days! I’m so glad my description of Star’s smile made you laugh! Each time I see her do it I laugh out loud, as she’s wiggling every part of her body like Gumby, with that oh so goofy 🙃 grin of hers! If you didn’t know it you might think she was showing you her teeth to snarl or growl. But not so! She is grinning from ear to beautiful ear! She’s been a true delight and I do feel guilty now and then because Sophia was my everything. I hope she would have liked this silly girl, too! I was so glad to hear from you again, and your sweet kind words. I hope I end up where all my fur kids are some day. Have a fabulous week! You made my day as bright as Star’s smile! 😻😁😍😇🥰💖
I would never give up on an animal either. Even when the Golden Retriever I had growing up was very sick and on his deathbed, we still kept him. Made him as comfortable as we could.
LadyRed L That's because you're a peraon with a heart and soul, Holden's prev scumbag owner has none of those just a dark void of emptiness. I love Havense breed
Wow. She's fostered 500 dogs. That's amazing. A few years ago I was awoken by this strange sound. It sounded an animal but not any sound I had ever heard. It was kind of an awoo but it was stressed and sad and in pain. After about 15 minutes I decided it must be a dog, but who would be abusing their dog in this neighborhood. I know all the dogs near my house and this sound very close. I finally couldn't take it. I decided this animal needed help and if I find the owner I'm going to give them a piece of my mind. I got dress and got my flashlight and went out the front door. I would walk down to the alley and go behind my row of houses and listen for this animal to find the house. I got to the alley and waited and finally I heard it again. I turned right and started to head towards my own house. I got to the gate behind my house and waited again and there it was. Awoouuuu. It was so sad and forlorn and it was coming from my own backyard! I thought, what could that be. I have some chickens but they don't make that sound. I opened the gate and walked in and turned the flashlight on. I checked the chicken coop and they were sleeping. No signs of anything else. I stood there stumped for a minute and then I remembered that I had this live trap for catching possums that kill my chickens. "It couldn't be a possum" I thought. I turned around and there was something in the trap. I caught a pitbull in a live trap. She was skin and bones and had lost all her hair. I could see that she had also had a litter recently. I was a little frightened to let her out of the trap because I didn't know this dog and I was a little afraid of the pitbull reputation, but then I heard myself thinking and I said, "Dude she's in a little cage and she's scared. She just wants to be out so let her out", so I took a breath and I opened the door. She was so happy to be out and I felt so bad that she had been in there. I had set the trap a couple months ago and just put a tablespoon of cat food in there. She was so hungry (and talented) that she sniffed out that old cat food even after rains had washed most of it away. Anyway, I opened the gate and said, "If you want to go you can go, or you can come up to the house and get something to eat." She didn't head for the gate so I shut it. I figured she could get out if she wanted since she got in somewhere. I opened the door to the mud room and gave her some food and water. I had 2 dogs already so I had food. In hindsight I probably shouldn't have fed her because she was starving. I could have hurt her and I knew that but I couldn't stand not feeding her. I said to her, "You are welcome to stay here where it's warm and if you decide you want to go the doggy door is open. If you are here in the morning I'll feed you again (I shouldn't have though). The next morning she was there and I let her out into the yard since it was going to be a warm day (it was November). I told her, "I've got to go to work now. If you're here when I get home I'll take you to the vet and get you checked out." When I got home she was still there. So, I took her to the vet and the vet and the attendants instantly fell in love with her. It was then that I was told she was going to need a bit of work. She was only one year old but would need surgery on her mouth to repair a bunch of broken teeth, she also had punctures in her face, she would need special food for a month, and she had bad ear infections from having them cut off. She had recently had pups but we would have to wait until she was stronger for her to get fixed. And of course she was severely under weight and had lost most of her hair. I was told it would cost over 3,000 dollars for this visit and the surgery. More later when she gets fixed. I said, "Okay" and a few days later I brought her home to meet my two heelers. I had never owned a pitbull. In fact, I had only owned heelers and I felt I understood that breed pretty well and I also thought I would probably never own any other breed of dog. I did my best to get her to gain weight. It was a long struggle but she only put on a few pounds. Also, house training was very slow. She just couldn't keep it in sometimes. There were quite a few times I had to take a deep breath when I got home from work. Then I noticed she started to lose weight again. I wasn't sure about that because she was already skinny. However, one day she was lethargic and not her peppy self and also wouldn't eat so I knew something was wrong. I immediately took her to the vet and after examining her they found a large mass insider her body. An X-ray revealed the size but not necessarily the nature or severity of the mass. I was told that she (my vet) could do surgery to remove it but if it was malignant or more complicated than removing something from the stomach/intestine area that she might not have the skill. It would cost about 2,500 dollars if she did it, but she recommended another animal hospital and made me an appointment to get a second opinion. She said it would likely cost a lot more if they did it. I wanted her to have the best chance so I went to the appointment and they weren't sure what it was but they admitted her for surgery the next day. Late that night they called and said she was taking a turn for the worse and had a fever. They suggested that she might have a perforated intestine. They wanted to do the surgery right away and I said, "Do it!" I waited up all night long. I couldn't sleep and about 6 in the morning they said that the surgery was a success and they had removed a large object that they weren't sure what it was, but it wasn't cancer. I had to wait a day before I could bring her home. When I saw her and she wagged her tail and got excited I knew it was the best 6,600 dollars I had ever spent. I now had a 10,000$ pitbull/lap dog (as I like to tell people). Now she is at her perfect weight. She never throws up food and always has an appetite. She can still sniff out the tiniest morsel of food anywhere. Despite the horrors heaped upon her by her previous owners she is a very good natured dog that loves people and always wants to meet and socialize with other dogs. There is not an ounce of meanness in her. They later gave me the object. They suspected it was some toy that she had swallowed and the stomach had created a coating. I examined the object and it looked like hair. I took a knife and I cut the fist size object in half. It was completely made of hair. There was nothing else inside. I guess she was sick and trying to clean herself while she was also losing hair and got so much inside her that it balled up and wouldn't go down. Anyway, that's my story. Oh, I named her, "Crooner".
God bless you for loving this sweet pup! I had a pit bull terrier too and she was the sweetest thing~ we named her Precious, because that was what she was to our family! I’ll always remember with fond memories 🐶
The National Blade Bless you for ever for rescuing that poor dog and giving it the intense treatment it needed. Karma will repay you two fold so will your dog.☺☺

So happy to see it when senior dogs get adopted. I adopted my senior dog three years ago and she is amazing. Best dog I've ever had! She might not be around for a long time, but she has provided so much joy for me!
Holden must the luckiest pooch on the planet • He gets rescued by a wonderful woman who has rescued and rehomed 500 others - then - • He has the perfect set up with his new mom and family a new home - own bed - own bowls - toys - all the food he wants and a big black lab brother
Cami Forsell yeah but not really he had a really bad backstory where it’s obvious that his previous owner neglected him. I would say he got a lucky second chance but isn’t the luckiest dog in the world, but defiantly one of the affectionate ones.
I don’t understand the “thumbs down” on these wonderful Dodo rescue videos. I smile and tear up all the way through these videos, watching these dogs go from flea and mange infested bags of bones to happy, tail-wagging doggies full of love and life and then scratch my head at why someone wouldn’t like these. Oh well.
It might be from animal rescue people that didn’t like how they showed the adoption? They didn’t show a home check. They didn’t show the dogs meeting out on neutral ground first to make sure they got along before the adoption. Many people go to the shelter and get a dog and just bring it into their home w/o properly introducing them first and then there is a dog fight and they return the dog and label him/her aggressive and it could have been a match if they introduced the dogs correctly. (I’ve done rescue for 20 years and have been a dog trainer for 18 years and those were two big missing pieces in this video). Adopting a senior black lab is how I started my journey in rescue. It changed my life path. Everyone should adopt a senior pet they are so grateful and will bring you so much joy. ❤️🐾
See Spot Stay - Dog Training- Bow Wow Boot Camp Maybe! Although, I have a feeling they generally skip that part (all of what you mention) or these would be much, much longer videos! I assume that proper protocol is followed in these cases with these fosters, as most of them have been at it a long time, much as you have been (and thank you for what you do!).
Its heartbreaking to see how sad he was in the beginning. You can even feel it through the screen. I just love a happy ending and this pup deserves a good life
My retirement plan is to rescue senior dogs. This gives me so much to look forward to.....
👍
Mine and my partners plan is to own a house with a huge garden & have my own graphic design business working from home by 40 so I can foster and rescue senior dogs! It's 13 years away, but I'm rather excited...

Can we take a minute to appreciate the fact that this woman has fostered over 500 dogs? What a kind soul. So happy she took in that adorable little guy.
And her kid and the cat and the husband are all totally onboard. Cuuutiesss!!

Instead of one I took a few.

Good people. We need more people like this in this world. Looks like Holden hit the jackpot.
It's been a depressing week for me but I love seeing stories like this where an older dog is valued and treated with dignity and respect and love and care.
Huuuuugs to you. I hope each week gets better&better no matter what you are facing.🫂🫂🫂
I hope your week got better!
I'm 72 years old, therefore "old as dirt." If I'm tossed out like Holden was for that reason, I hope I get a new mommy like Carol. God bless you all!
Same here. Also 72, and to think that is what some people do to you when you get old. It does happen to elderly people everyday, it's called nursing homes. Scary and very sad to think about.

Ma'am you are obviously very spunky and I have a feeling that you are probably like a ray of sunshine to those around you because of your spunk. If you are considered "old as dirt" than we should all be so lucky to be as graceful as you are about it when we become your age. 😊

Ok but no one is talking about the sweet lady who adopted Holden- she seems so nice and I’m so glad they found each other
That lady was probably brought up with love so she knew how to give love
My immediate reaction was yup that is his mommy, it's decided, haha. She's PERFECT. Gonna be one spoiled boye

There's just something so heartbreaking about old pets getting thrown out like trash 💔
You don't know the circumstances of Holden so don't judge before you get the facts.
@@iangoldsworthy2056 this was a general statement i made, not specifically about holden's situation
Yeah, whoever abandoned him is a huge mf.
Its so heartbreaking for pets to get throwed out in general
I got my dog when he was 6 weeks old..he passed when he was 15 years old...i could never dump him like that...im glad that he found a good home!
I wish I was in the position to have another dog again. It was a very memorable and rewarding experience.
❤
Almost ANYONE can adopt a puppy, but it takes real character, insight, love, and grace to adopt an older dog. God bless you, ma'am. This is very humbling to have watched this.
I don't know. These women look wealthy.
Right now I can't afford a pet: if they got sick i could not pay the vet.
I'm glad there are people like this, who are strong enough to give elderly dogs the end-of-life they deserve, because I couldn't.

MzClementine,
You’re absolutely right!

Okay, I can do that.”
He’s not a barker, but jack is a schnauzer and anyone who knows anything about them knows they BARK. Thank god he hasn’t picked that habit up but he’ll whinny and moan instead. “Oh, we’re supposed to make noise when the vaccume cleaner is running? Got it.”
He just follows them around, particularly Buggie, learning and copying day by day.
Pretty sure I can do that.”
He’s eager to learn and eager to please.
And acting like a goofy puppy
PLEASE everyone, consider shelter or foster rescue of a “senior” dog.
Awww... That's awesome
Our 12 yr old Malamute came to life and lived another three years after we got a puppy. She was like, I'm not
going anywhere!!! She potty trained and disciplined the new pup, made him into the best dog we ever had....
I honestly think seeing a cosy, safe, happy doggy is one of the most satisfying things ever!! ❤️🐶 Hope this distinguished senior boy lives out his best life with his lovely new owner.
Well said!
Yesss.
Jasmine Lee,
Totally agree with you!!!
Foster mom is an inspiration. Thank you.
I love the lady that adopted him. She seems amazing!

Luck for you
I have an old doggy. Was treated right since its birth. They have a right to live out their days in dignity. Bless this family ❤️

So true, I have four dogs over the age of ten years and they are amazing, such loving souls.
The way he grabs onto arms when he’s getting petted is absolutely adorable
My dog does that too!!! It's the BEST!!!
@@Fatboy-dt8bf Awww...that's so sweet, it feels like such a loving gesture
If I remember correctly, dogs do this as a way of petting you back, as they can’t do the stroking motion!

My dog does that too, it's the cutest thing ever
I've watched this several times because it's such a nice story about an obviously sweet, affectionate, cuddly doggo who finally gets all the cuddles he wants.
She’s such a kind woman bless her soul and I hope he’s living well now
It always amazes me how, after all their extreme suffering, these dogs can exhibit such affection and trust towards humans. I'm so pleased that this dog finally got a better life and the love and care that he deserves.
Holden is an angel. He's just so even-tempered & gentle, & he adapts so well to every situation. I'm glad he has a wonderful home with lots of love.
The last scene, where Holden is happy in his own bed, in his new loving home, snuggled with his plushie, just chilling, it's just so heartwarming! I'm so happy for him! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Beautiful ❣️!
God bless you ❤️❤️❤️
You are a kind and attentive owner.
Bless you Sir for giving your heart to an other furry friend, it's heart breaking when you have to say good bye but love never die's you have so many memories of your last friend & that is a gift to treasure alway's, Best Wishe's to you,

Thank u to people who help animals like this
So much to be said for adopting an older dog.
Who else cried. Their eyes out😭😢
It wasn't that sad for me at least
I lost my Tasha this year and Holdens face was the absolute spit of her, I balled my eyes out as it still hurts.
She was a rescue too.

I cried too. Can you imagine being thrown away because you are too old? What is the matter with some people? Poor Holden looked so sad, but now he has a new, beautiful home and family. These videos always touch my heart.
Absolutely. It's a bittersweet story with a happy ending thank God and thanks to all the loving people who helped him. It's so very very touching.
omg when he was laying on the lamb at the end, my heart burst. I'm so happy for Holden.
Wow.... that dog had a regular home at one time. Something happened. I found a senior stray once that was like that. She turned up in my yard one day out of the blue. She understood all the basic commands, sweet disposition. I had her 8 years until she passed away. I still miss her. 😔
.
💔
Bless you for giving her 8 wonderful years of a loving home
George B: What happened was clearly that Holden's former owner was a selfish, indifferent a**hole. Nobody who's decent and caring would neglect a pet, leaving them to suffer with ailments, etc, and then abandon them, in Holden's case with the vile words "old as dirt". That owner should rot in hell and god help any other animals they may have.
Thank you Carol for adopting him🖤🐾🖤

My man!
4:39 and 5:00 "What's mine is mine and what's _yours_ is mine." ~ Holden 😊
That spacious yard is a dog’s heaven! I’m so happy for Holden
💕🤗🙏🌺
Theresa 410
Thanks so much Theresa 410 There really are no words to express the pain of losing our Dear Pets.

Thank you again, Dear Theresa!

They wanted to do the surgery right away and I said, "Do it!"
I waited up all night long.

Oh well.
Some people think that "thumbs down" means they oppose animal abuse. They probably jump to conclusions and don't stick around to see the happy ending.
Ann G. I suppose that’s right. I hadn’t thought of that! Your remark gets a thumbs up! 👍🐶
I think people who are miserable search for happy or funny stories just to hit a thumbs down. I feel sorry for them😷🇨🇦
It might be from animal rescue people that didn’t like how they showed the adoption?
