  • An edited unboxing of my first Ryansword purchase. As stated in the video, I have three worrisome questions when I receive a new sword, and in this case:
    1. Did it arrive intact? Yes.
    2. Is it what I thought I ordered? Nope.
    3. Does it fit me? Yes and no.
    Full review to follow. I want to give Ryansword time to reply to not sending me the right blade.
    Sorry about the sound glitches... still working on that.

    I ordered a honsanmai sword from them, model number 1349, and my experience appears to have been better than yours. On mine you can see the demarcation lines between the steel. 1095 for the edge, 1065 for the spine, and 1045 for the sides. They no longer advertise the three different types of steel, only stipulating to the 1095 edge. I paid $350 for mine, but they currently have it listed for $270. I have two other shinken, from a different source, and this one is my second favourite of the three. Thank you for this review, sir.

    Ryansword has improved greatly in the past few years though they're still mostly hit or miss but that's because all of luanquan is a forge and it's all up for grabs when someone orders. All "forges", honbon, jkoo/sinosword, swords of northshire, tsunami anything and so on. Ebay sellers too. It's all a gamble from chiner.

    I ordered a sword from them and it arrived completely damaged. The blade was chipped and everything was scratched. They offered me 50$ and that was it. I paid more than 300$ for it. Avoid them at all cost, buy swords from more reputable sellers that don't scam you.

    Interesting that the sword that Matthew Jensen got had the folded steel for a similar price. Maybe they sent him a cherry picked model. Or maybe it’s just luck of the draw.

      It was SUPPOSED to be folded and sanmai, which is what I ordered and paid for, but they sent me plain 1095.

    Don't see too many tachi swords on youtube. Thanks for sharing.

      I'm hoping to show off some uncommon things, as the blades that tend to catch my interest just don't have many reviews.

      I guess I should be grateful it's NOT laminated. Might actually hold up to a little use.

    Hmm, not so good. I've been looking at some of their stuff for a while. After seeing Ryansword's work and that of Lyuesword, what do you think of the theory, that always gets put out on forums, that they are the same company or owned by the same person?

    • @michaelrizzo5523
      @michaelrizzo5523  3 роки тому +3

      I've asked this question and the answer I get tends to feel evasive. They may be run by different members of the same family, and/or source their parts from the same places, which I think a lot of Longquan dealers do. There are similarities and differences (blades and fixtures) between them, but my interactions with Ruan at Lyuesword have always been excellent, and what I ordered is exactly what I received, while Ryansword so far... Not good. I'm hoping to get a more thoughtful reply after the New Year.

    The most important thing is to hit the spine of the blade on some softer wood to make sure the blade don't snap and if it holds up then you'll know that you have a properly tempered blade . I would remove the bubble gum out the Saya, which is nasty but then shim it . It would've been nice to show us the paper cut and if it passes the paper cut test then you should have a legit sword . It looks great so that part is covered

    Hi Michael, is the koshirae as you say "copper" ? Because to me it looks like brass...

    • @michaelrizzo5523
      @michaelrizzo5523  3 роки тому +1

      Great question! They call it "copper" and it's a bit "redder" than the brighter common brass I'm used to, but not near as red (or soft) as say copper tubing, wire or bullet jackets. It also doesn't patina quite the same way. It's similar to what I have on other Chinese made swords, so I suspect it's some kind of alloy designed to keep costs down. At least it's not a surface coloring as I've done significant filing and polishing and it's the same all the way through. "Copper-ish?" "Copper-er?" I may bring this up in future videos for discussion, see if anyone's tested it.

    Hello I been looking for a sword with a Eragon theme
    I can only find the sword fram Ryan Sword. am plaining to get the sword unshapen. Am only getting the sword to hang on the wall and maybe swing the sword around in my backyard.
    The price is $483 would be only 359 without shipping the weight is 7kg. It's still cheaper than finding someone to make a custom one. What would you do would you not buy the sword or buy it?
    also, I dont see tax on it. Do you not pay taxes when buying in China stores?
    Thank you
    Jonko

    Ah, the ol' bait-n-switch blade technique. I think that if you order a sanmai blade, then godsarnit, you should receive one.
    (I also think that the monosteel is probably superior, so win anyway)

    • @michaelrizzo5523
      @michaelrizzo5523  3 роки тому +1

      Definitely superior, as far as this one goes. It's pretty tough.

    I always wondered why tachi swords usually have that ring on the kashira (pommel), maybe it's for decoration, but also for tying a tassel (for further decoration) or for tying a lanyard. I know that the tachi was originally a cavalry sword. Maybe a samurai on horseback would tie a lanyard so they don't lose their sword if it slips from his hand (moreover if its sweaty and/or bloody).

    • @michaelrizzo5523
      @michaelrizzo5523  2 роки тому

      There's a classic type of lanyard for tachi that kind of looks like a shoelace with a slider, much less fancy than the tassel of a gunto. I've seen one available on either Etsy or Ebay.

    Yeah . I am not sure how to feel about your experience with them . Was that really gum or some kind of filler for a better fit ? I have seen quite a few great looking swords on their site over the last 8 months . Now I am a little more leary about them for swords . I hope things turn out to be more favor than regret for you and this sword.

      It got worse... That's a couple of wads of wood paste inside the poorly-fit saya, my easiest fix. Makes me appreciate Ruan at Lyuesword and Swan at Murasame even more. You guys are awesome!
