9:51: "Lesson learnt". Well actually the lesson should be like this: Und your parties character pictures on the left are two important tiny buttons, both incredible usefully in this situation with the firebolt traps. One button let's you toggle between group movement and individual movement. With this option you can scout ahead with one character and leave the others behind for the moment. The second button toggles sneaking for the whole group. In this mode you see red areas on the ground around enemies. Entering the red area your characters have to succed in a dice roll for sneaking. If they fail they will be noticed. When you suspect enemies near these red areas help you locate them and tell you when they will notice you. You can surprise enemies this way (for example with a ranged attack) which gives you a free attack while the enemy is surprised, which makes fights much more easy. (However if you surprise the enemy it is possible only your attack characters enters combat while the others stay hidden and outside the combat. in this case you have to select them and move them close or attack as well to enter the combat and getting this free attack as well.) In this tunnel with the firebolt traps you will notice those traps have a red area as well. So it is possible to sneak past them and even disarm them.
Both individual movement mode and sneak mode are meant to be use often!
Also: Rest often! You might miss story conversations if you don't rest often enough. You also fully heal and get your spell slots back. There are people who longrest after every big battle.
The spider area is pretty hard. I allways safe it for later and go in after a long rest.

I honestly don't remember why I tried to sneak past the statues, but I got pretty disappointed by the fact that you just needed that to make them useless XD

In a combat, look up at the characters order queue, at the top of the screen. If some of your characters are next to each other, you can switch between them and choose who will act first.

    I'd like to suggest something:
It might prove very helpful to you to spend some time off screen on taking a good look at the inventory of all of your characters and whatever you sent to camp taking a look at what each spell that he can do, does; what conditions need to be mad to use any item, or spell, or skill., and so on. Just a few minutes ago you were very excited to get somebody who can cast speak to animals - then you meet the dog - and talking to it is not the first thing that comes to your mind. The dog is next to the corpse of its previous owner (friend), you've got the pendant that makes it possible to talk to corpses.... See where I'm going with this?
Ooh! By the way: taking part in adventures and defeating beasts is not making mistakes in the game. You make some rash decisions and you don't sometimes weigh your options thoroughly enough but you don't need to beat yourself over this.

"Where can I read that again? That would have been useful."
Right there, on your screen. 😜
A Wild Magic surge is nothing but a temporary status / temporary condition.
*ALL* temporary statuses (positive and negative ones) are shown on screen at all times, next to the characters's portraits.
In this case, it was the little blue "drop" symbol next to your protagonist's face.
If you hover your mouse over those symbols, they tell you what's going on with your character.
At the same time, you can see that there's a little symbol next to Wyll's face.
It tells you that Wyll has "Speak with Animals" active.
That would have been useful for the owlbears.
It's useful to know, in case you miss something (which, let's face it, *WILL* happen a lot).
You need to know if your archer is temporary blinded or your wizard is temporary silenced.
You need to know if your whole party is currently burning, poisoned or turned to stone.
    Etc.
PS: Holy crap, you attacked Astarion in two consecutive battles! 🤣

About Hex: For a non magic using creature like an Owlbear that mainly has melee attacks, Hexing STR is the way to go. If it was a ranged threat like an archer then Hexing DEX would be better, and for a magic user it depends on what kind, as they all use a different attributes to cast with ( Wizards use INT, Sorcerers use CHAR, etc). For a Warlock, you cast Hex as a bonus action before your Eldrich Blast to add the Hex dmg to each ray ( you get more rays as you level up, like magic missle). Hex is maintaned with concentration, so as long as you retain concentration on it, you can move it to new targets and re-cast without using resourses. Have fun, BG3 is the best!

    • @fififemke
      @fififemke  Місяць тому +1

Yeah so I, for some reason, assumed Hex was based on *my* stats. 🤡 This ofcourse makes no sense, as in that case I’d always use Hex in the same way as my stats generally stay balanced similarly as how we started (right?). As the mobs get harder, stacking buffs creates opportunities for enhanced damage. In the Owlbear fight, you cast grease which was a good thought for most enemies, and then you cast Chromatic Orb but selected Thunder(?) damage. Here was an opportunity to stack damage you missed, since Grease is flammable, using fire dmg here would have caused more dmg and possibly set the Owlbear on fire for multiple turns. Unfortunately against an Owlbear grease is not usually so effective, as they have that huge flying jump to take them easily out of it's area of effect, but if you pay attention to the initiative order at the top of the screen, you can predict whether you can Grease and use some fire before the Owlbears turn. Good luck!

Try to keep squishy magic users out of melee range as much as possible. Their stats are high in INT, CHAR, or WIS depending on what type of caster. For melee you need high DEX for Armor Class, high CON for more HP, and high STR for damage (weapons with the Finesse label use DEX for dmg instead). Dedicated casters are basically ranged blasters or battlefield control masters with some exceptions like Paladin or Eldritch Knight Warlock, etc. Use the Disengage common feature to get these squishy classes out of melee without invoking attacks of opportunity or use a melee attack like Burning Hands or Thunderwave if needed when you have to stay, but beware AOE damage to allies. The spell details tell you if it's for melee usage, which means there will be no penalties using it with an enemy next to you. You're learning, learning is fun!

46:50 The ability where you have the most bonus is not always the easiest check to pass (even if it usually is).
Depending on the situation, a choice without as much bonuses could have a much lower Difficulty Class, making it the easier check.
