Shut the flip up, honestly. This is exactly what the snobby classical musicians said to the young jazz and rock musicians. There is no need to be condescending towards the younger generations who compose with their computers. One of the most impactful sentences that my cello mentor said was that music is good if YOU think it sounds good. The instrumentation does not matter as long as it's good music. Get off your high horse and just appreciate music without putting others down.

My 51 year old son and I shared this song many times over the years. On June 22, 2023 he lost his battle with cirrhosis of the liver. We were playing videos in his room that day. Not more than a second passed after he was pronounced, this song played. I immediately lost my shit because i knew he made that happen for me. He was telling me that there is peace we are done. No doubt in my mind. And therefore I am at peace with his passing. Amen.

It’s not a fashion statement. Rich Williams blew his eye out of his head when he was a kid making bombs with black powder and baby food jars. He twisted the cap onto one and the friction ignited the powder in the rim of the cover. It’s really a horrible thing that he, very thankfully, survived.

    Carry on, my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
    Don't you cry no more
Once, I rose above the noise and confusion
Just to get a glimpse beyond this illusion
    I was soaring ever higher
    But I flew too high
Though my eyes could see, I still was a blind man
Though my mind could think, I still was a mad man
I hear the voices when I'm dreaming
    I can hear them say
    Carry on, my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
    Don't you cry no more
Masquerading as a man with a reason
My charade is the event of the season
And if I claim to be a wise man, well
It surely means that I don't know
On a stormy sea of moving emotion
Tossed about like a ship on the ocean
I set a course for winds of fortune
But I hear the voices say
    Carry on, my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry no more (no!)
(Carry on) you will always remember
(Carry on) nothing equals the splendor
Now your life's no longer empty
    Surely Heaven waits for you
    Carry on, my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry, don't you cry no more!
    No more!

Steve Walsh is one of rock's greatest vocalist but doesn't receive the recognition he deserves. This is one of the great songs from the 70's and imo Kansas' best track. I can't believe that it never became a huge worldwide hit. Many people were introduced to it through Supernaturral, but for me it was the Henry Winkler movie "Heroes" back in 1977. Everyone was leaving, but I sat through the entire credits of the movie to make sure I didn't miss a note on the great cinema soundsystem.

Was lucky to see them so much. One concert was new years eve in the 70's maybe 76,77? On one song while they were playing they just disappeared while playing instantly. Music never stopped and then they were there? Never knew how that was done. Stage lights just dimmed for a few seconds and back on.

Nothing worse than seeing an old band past it's prime with poor musicianship and bad harmonies. And nothing better than seeing the alternative. You guys are still amazing! Musicianship awesome. Harmonies spot on. Amazing! Thanks for all the joy you brought us.

I saw Kansas in concert sometime around 1974 in Hays Kansas, the amazing thing is they were the backup band and I couldn’t tell you who the feature band was because Kansas was so much better. I remember a local radio DJ was the emcee and he told everyone in the Hays coliseum there was no cigarette smoking in the building but they didn’t say anything else about smoking and here comes Kansas, the house lights went out and there must have been a thousand lighters go off lighting up all the joints. We were about 30’ back and to the left of the stage. Those were some of the best days I ever had, thanks to Kansas.
