You are one tough lady and I am so inspired by you. I’m 73 and still love hiking and camping. Keep moving is the key. Love your videos. Keep them coming. 👩🏻🦯
Hello Jackie- I totally agree with your advice to "keep moving" As an older hiker and camper I find that to be imperative. I don't dare stop for fear of not getting started again!! lol- Here's to all the older outdoors folks who keep persisting, even if its only in our minds.
Girrrl - You continually inspire me in so many ways! I am very proud of you for facing that challenge head on, overcoming and making a new/better memory of that root and section of trail. You are such a badass and I want to be just like you!!!
You are a treasure. You poor thing. Greatful you are healing...and so blessed to hear your words of wisdom. Hike on dear woman....you have got this. Watch those roots!!!!!
Wendy, I love your videos. You have such a positive attitude and the places you visit and capture for us to see are beautiful. The fern and rocks in the water are one example, just amazing. You are such an inspiration- I’m 20 years younger than you and I love hiking and kayaking and just exploring nature, seeing you makes me hopeful that I’ll be doing the same in the years to come. I’m so happy to see that you’re healing from your fall and that you didn’t let it stop you. Way to go!! I hope you have any amazing and safe adventure with no injuries. Looking forward to your next video.
I am 76. I took a bad fall last year while out camping. We don't bounce any more! It took me a few days to recover. I am still going! You are doing the same. We just need to keep going! Blessings..
Glad to see that you’re alright and healing. You’re practically unstoppable. Hope the hike was very enjoyable. The area that you’re in is absolutely gorgeous.
Oh my goodness! Great advice… STOP! then, Look at the scenery! I have been implementing this since I’ve gone to progressive lenses but I kinda thought it was just me being unsteady. Now I’m sold 😊. I’m absolutely loving your videos-thank you!!
Wendy, I am so glad that you are healing well and nothing any worse happened. It is such a beautiful place. I look forward to your video on your backpacking trip. Have fun and be safe!
You are a have wonderful determination ! You are right to go back and do your regular hike again. If makes the world of difference. I have lived on a ranch & farm all my life. I have rode horses all my life. We got a new horse and of course I was going to ride him. Long story short. Many surgery’s later & reconstruction surgery to my face. Weeks later, The day my husband brought me home from the hospital, my father brought my own horse to the front door. My husband thought my father had lost it. My father said, if she don’t get back on right now, she will live fearful always. I did it! That was over 25 years ago and I love to ride still. I camp, backpack and do just about everything outside, my husband still thinks I’m nuts when I go solo. But at 65, I refuse to quit now! You and I are going to keep going as long as possible! Proud of you my friend.
thanks you so much for sharing your story Glenda. Your father had the right idea for sure. Wonderful to hear you too continue to give it your all as you age. Living life fully!
I hear you Wendy. I can’t admire scenery and walk at the same time, and I’ve also learned I cannot make adjustments to gear (particularly messing with the loops on my hiking poles) as I am moving along. So glad you are ok!!
I’m glad you’re alright and that you went back to where it happened. You can’t let these things keep you down! I love your attitude towards life and I hope I can maintain an active lifestyle just like you have. You are inspiring!
I'm training too--haven't added a pack yet though. I'm glad to hear how you are doing it. I'm sorry you fell, but glad you got help. You are a lucky person! Thank you so much for doing these videos.
Thanks, you too! I love doing these videos and hearing from so many amazing folks out there just trying to keep the dream alive. I am now starting to train for some summer back pack trips. One may require a higher climb that I am used to! I am more keen on the flat ground - but what the heck!!!
Hi Wendy I have missed you and I'm sorry that happened to you and I'm so thankful to God you are healing quickly best wishes on your new adventure thanks for taking me along with you Hello from North Carolina❤❤❤
Oh my gosh😮 you did go down. So thankful you are all right tripping on those roots seems to be a common occurrence for everybody lol including myself. It’s such a shock when you make the connection with your foot and go flying.haha! 😂 It’s amazing how those darn roots do not move but we sure do lol😊. Glad you are OK and continuing on as you are one tough cookie. Keep up the good work thank you for sharing. Happy hiking!!🥾 😊
Fingers crossed! I could not believe how fast I was down on my face. I was pretty shocked for a few minutes but thankfully nothing broke but my pride!!!
You amaze me. You still move with such agility and flexibility. I am 81 and I have the interest also of camping. When the pandemic hit I sold my cycle and bought a car I could sleep in. My biggest fear is falling. My kids bought me a Zoleo for my 80th birthday. So my challenge is to just keep moving. So Lady you are a real inspiration to me. It is lovely to have role models. So when you are on the trail just remember we are all “rooting” for you.
Dear Wendy, I was so sorry to learn about your fall. Truly, regardless of one’s age, it is so easy to trip on a tree root. You are such an inspiration to all hikers, canoeists and campers. Good luck on your next adventure! You have trained and prepared well. I enjoy your videos. You have a lovely demeanour.
Oh my goodness, Wendy! Very glad you are alright and that there were people who were kind and helpful. Appreciate your indomitable spirit! And thanks for sharing your experience.
Wendy! Please, please take care of you, we need you! Take care next time, these things happen I am so glad you are better now and that you met those wonderful people that helped you ❤ you have all my admiration and respect ❤ take care ❤
Oh Wendy! Just seeing your face, I could "feel" your fall, myself. Your wonderful smile gave me immediate hope, though. Thank God the bikers and then the two gentlemen came to your aid. I picture how disoriented you must have been until they came along! You are the poster senior lady for the saying "You just have to get up one more time than you're knocked down." Hope you have a wonderful hike and stay at Keena Beach! Safe Home! God bless you!
Oh Wendy, I'm so glad your injuries didn't get the better of you. Not, sure when you posted this, but I guess I've missed a few. I'm glad you had the guts and determination to get back on the horse. You are one impressive woman! I've got some catching up to do! Be well, stay strong.
You are amazing and an inspiration! Makes me want to get out there and train too, but we're going through such a heatwave in the US right now, it'll have to wait. So glad to see that you are healing nicely and on your way!
thanks so much, I am hoping to get through the challenge safely. A little caution can go a long way. no rushing! thanks so much. your encouragement means a lot.
Nice to see you back, great way to train, sorry about the fall i did the same and ended up with a deviated septum and broke the wrist in three place's both fixed but wrist still sore , I like yourself was looking at something. WE cant give up , things happen and we learn from it. happy you didnt give into that fall. And yes it is gorgeouse there , nice that those folks came along to help you out good trail edicate. I am so happy your healing and wish you the best on your adventure look forward to that video your a strong women I have full confidence you can do this . Ontario
Bravo, Wendy you're like what they call a tough cookie, I guess. I'm glad everything healed well and that you could do the hike! You literally got to the "root" of the problem and dealt with it. Thank you so much for taking us with you on your adventures in your kind and humble way, with kind regards of Holland, Jan
I first saw your picture on the video frame on UA-cam and was shocked and hoped you were OK. You’re an amazing woman Wendy. I love watching your videos. You are such an inspiration. To “get right back up on the saddle” so quickly it’s mind-boggling. I cannot wait to watch your video of your camping trip. I know you will thoroughly enjoy it! And everyone else watching you can’t wait to see it! You go, girl!🫶🏼🌳🏞️🙋♀️☮️
Good on you, Wendy. Hope you have a wonderfultime. We are so lucky to live on this beautiful Island. Thanks so much for sharing your adventures....entertaining and inspiring.
Yay, you!! Thanks for this - you must have wondered whether to post it or not...glad you did. Adventure involves some risk, and seeing how you cope with the occasional mishap is very encouraging.
Yes, accidents do happen and I wasnt sure about posting it but i know that this is reality . Best to share the reality even when things dont go well. thanks for watching.
Good luck! I am so glad you are okay. Thank you for sharing your experience. It's a great reminder for all of to really pay attention to our steps and to stop when we want to admire anything above ground!!
Hi Wendy--Oh Ouch! I know how easy it is to get distracted by the scenery and to fall. I have done so myself and really did a number to my knee. I also had other falls too in my late 60s but now have physical therapy to focus on balance and strength (I'm 70 years old). I also use my trekking poles plus look down mindfully to avoid tripping hazards along the trail. I'm glad you healed quickly so that you and Lydia could go on your wonderful hike to Keeha Beach, which I just finished watching. Glad you did alright! Jenny
Still playing catch-up on your channel Wendy. Oh my - that was quite a fall. I'm so glad that it wasn't worse, but something tells me that you're made of tough stuff and just keep on trekking.
I hope so too! so far so good. I healed quite quickly then enjoyed my hike last summer, so much so I am going again later in July. thanks so much for your time.
Ouch! I’m sorry you were injured Ms. Wendy but glad it wasn’t worse. Truly enjoy your videos-you are a lovely lady and an inspiration. Thank you, Richard
thanks very much Richard- I recovered and had a great hike a month later. An occasional injury seems part of it. thankfully nothing serious as you noticed.
Good job! So happy to hear you've mended and prayers and good luck for your overnight hiking trip. (Which you are likely already back from, can't wait to see the vlog of your trip).
Regarding your face plant, uh... I was setting up my campsite a few years ago and stubbed my left toe on the SAME ROOT buried under leaves. Three times! I had my arms full of gear and wasn't paying attention. I did not hit the ground, but I pulled my hamstring and was in pain for 3 months. It happens. Stuff happens. We do our best ...and we enjoy the great out of doors, right? I'm a first-time viewer from Florida. So happy to find your channel.
So happy that you have made a full recovery and are back at it. Many people would have ditched the idea of continuing. I have had similar experiences. I wear glasses which are trifocals. I have found that I’m better off not wearing them when I’m hiking, fishing ect. I was tripping and falling every time I wore them. Since I stopped wearing them I no longer hit the dirt……lol Again I’m glad your ok and still planning to go on the trip. I’m looking forward to the video. Be safe and look down…lol Best wishes for a safe trip!
Not to many women your age out hiking and camping. You inspired me to get in shape , need to lose 75 pounds by Sept/25.. I have always wanted to go to Scotland , hike and camp in the Highlands tired of watching people live the life I want .. I'm 67 yrs old, people keep telling me I'm too old., you'll never do it . But I feel your never too old to live your dreams and get into shape..Thanks for your video's there wonderful to watch and I love talking about you.
You are so fortunate and tough! Glad you were able to slough that one off and get back at it. That looked like a big Lowe Alpine pack you were hucking as well. .
I also took a spill. Somewhat caught myself with my hands. I now wear half fingered padded gloves which will keep down trail rash if I should ever fall again.
thanks Malcolm. This time I am going with a friend who is my daughter' age because she can't come due to a knee injury. I will do my best to post after I return. hopefully in one piece!!!
Judo will teach you how to fall. Practice putting your hands in front to break the fall and protect your face. I know it sounds incredible but it does work! Glad you made it
Hi Wendy, Richard here again. I don’t think being distracted by nature wonders is a function of age. I was so prone to trip over or run into things rubber-necking when I was young that a friend suggested I would benefit by remembering the phrase “nose and toes the same way goes”. And I do remember the phrase-usually right after I run into a tree.
I’m young but have severe scoliosis and other connective tissue+musculoskeletal problems. I wanna backpack since I can’t car camp or road trip (no car/full license) but I don’t think I can make it past a day pack. I would definitely need to build up the weight like you are and keep my pack light. Although I think I’m kidding myself bc I’m writing this from bed after I threw out my back from washing my hair after not wearing my brace for enough hours 😅🥲
That's so tough.I really hope that you are able to figure out a way to make it work for you, I know you are trying really hard. I'm sure you will find a good balance! Working on fitness is a big one and takes a lot of time. I wish you success.
I am sorry you got hurt. Your dialog and filming makes me wish I could tag along. My dog Jordy and I walk the Katy trail in the Jefferson City, Mo. area. We usually go about 2 miles. I am 80 and she is 10 0r 11, two ole gals that are constant pals. Gramma candy
Hello Wendy I am Daniel from Norway. I been watching few videos from your channel recently. I would recommend you to do El Camino de Santiago in Spain l. You would probably love it. You don't need to be religious for it, though. I see you're using hiking shoes you're probably used to them while increasing your weight with backpack. I would recommend you to do this instead: 1. Apart from walking poles. Try to lower your weight on your feet. Try to walk in some trail runner. One size bigger than normal wear. Get the small gaiters too. 2. Trailrunners are not supposed to be waterproof, but don't worry they dry fast. And additionally you can add a waterproof sock. But normally I have spare socks when walking with it. Injinji liner, and a merino wool sock over it is my favorite combination. Eventually I switch the merino wool with the waterproof if it get too wet or cold. 3. I would highly recommend to switch to Altra Olympus , Timps or Lone Peaks. Because of the zero drop. It needs training and transition though! The pros are stronger balance when you age. Your knees takes the support of your body naturally. Normally the heels on a shoe does it for you, but that's actually a con for your body when you take of shoes at the end of the day... Zero drop Eventually makes your body stronger, specially your knees, back and heels. 3. Only carry 10% of your body weight. Sometimes backpacks even though they are comfortable they might weight more than for example thruhikes dyneema backpacks in the longer run.
wow Daniel, thanks you so very much for your detailed comments and suggestions. I have thought about trail runners but haven't tried them yet. Always used boots. I will investigate this more. seems like a most worthwhile idea.At this point in my life I am open to all ideas in order to keep going doing the things I love.
Yes, I was fortunate. The hike went really well. I did a video"Hiking to My Special Place" if you would like to see it. You may see why I was so determined to get there.
Sorry! all hikers fall most don't talk about it.I fell on the AT we had snow on top of wet leaves and i hit my head on a rock and had to spend five days in town still have the scar.I fell on the PCT and did a face plant in a burn area unhurt but covered in soot from head to toe my fellow hikers got a good laugh. Hiking poles are great and are like a second pair of feet but most just drag them along as tent poles they can save your knees on those big downhills and it's easier to keep a constant pace with poles.
@@wendyoutdoors2230 LOL you have a great attitude you would have made a great thru hiker it's mostly mental anyone can hike twenty miles days but to do it for months you need a good attitude .
You are one tough lady and I am so inspired by you. I’m 73 and still love hiking and camping. Keep moving is the key. Love your videos. Keep them coming. 👩🏻🦯

thank you. I have learned to stop now, then look but I still sometimes forget. Nature has a way of luring you to admire her!

Thank you,
Richard
thanks very much Richard- I recovered and had a great hike a month later. An occasional injury seems part of it. thankfully nothing serious as you noticed.
So really glad you are ok. Take care of yourself. You find out that we do have good folks out there. Have a great trip.❤
Yes we do- thank you
You are a Trooper!!!! Glad nothing more severe!!!!!!!!!!!! Enjoy your videos!!
Thanks 👍
Wendy, you are our hero!
many thanks- not really a hero, maybe just some one not looking where I was going🤣
So glad to hear you had help and healed!❤
many thanks Diane.
Good job! So happy to hear you've mended and prayers and good luck for your overnight hiking trip. (Which you are likely already back from, can't wait to see the vlog of your trip).
thank you. if you look on my playlist about Hiking you will see a video " Hiking to my Favourite Place. It was a great trip.
Ant wait to hear about the trip! Glad you made it a quick recovery 🙏
I did do it- "Hiking to My Special Place" You will see why I wanted to go. thanks for watching
Wow😢things can happen in an instant! Thank goodness you are alright and can continue your adventure!
Yes! Thank you Marcia- I was pleased to heal quickly with no lingering issue.
Thanks for sharing Dee and welcome. I hope you continue to find something you can relate to here. Great having you.
👍
I hope you're feeling better and better! Please don't hike alone. No one should hike alone. Share the beauty with someone. ♡ Be careful!
thankfully I have a young friend coming with me. Appreciate your comment
Be safe and look down…lol Best wishes for a safe trip!
thanks so much Dennis. Ill do my best in the safety department!
❤ I’m happy that you are ok and good to go❤ no falling allowed please ❤
Yes, that is an excellent rule! thanks
But I feel your never too old to live your dreams and get into shape..Thanks for your video's there wonderful to watch and I love talking about you.
that is wonderful- 67 is not too old if you really want to do it- you sound determined- awesome!! I hope you have a fabulous time. Love your attitude.
Enjoy your trip!
Had a great time, thanks you
WISHING YOU ALL THE BEST WENDY ❤️ ENJOY AND STAY SAFE
thanks so much!
We move forward.
absolutely- and thankfully
Glad you are on the mend.
healed quickly thankfully.
So sorry. Accidents happen. Glad people were around to help.
I was very fortunate someone came by and I didn't have to call for assistance. I had a quick recovery thankfully.
You are so fortunate and tough! Glad you were able to slough that one off and get back at it. That looked like a big Lowe Alpine pack you were hucking as well. .
Yes it was!
I also took a spill. Somewhat caught myself with my hands. I now wear half fingered padded gloves which will keep down trail rash if I should ever fall again.
Good stuff! Let's hope we can both remain upright!!
Have a great hike and a few days with your daughter
thanks Malcolm. This time I am going with a friend who is my daughter' age because she can't come due to a knee injury. I will do my best to post after I return. hopefully in one piece!!!
Sorry to hear about your daughters knee
When you become of a certain age... you are on the ground before your brain perceives that you are falling! Been there...done that!!!
a very true statement . Got to stop gazing around while walking. I need to remember to stop then gaze about!!
Glad you are ok!
thank you Martha. I'm trying to stop before I look!
way to go girl
Have a good trip🦔
thanks, will try my best.
You go girl! Any body can fall at any time…trust me. lol good luck! Not that you need it.
I can always do with well wishes, thanks you Margo
Judo will teach you how to fall. Practice putting your hands in front to break the fall and protect your face. I know it sounds incredible but it does work! Glad you made it
Thanks for the tip Lulu- I'm working on it!!! Hands first....
😂 -- Seems I find myself forgetting too. Just very hard to not keep looking around at all the great things to see. !!
❤❤❤❤
I am sorry you got hurt. Your dialog and filming makes me wish I could tag along. My dog Jordy and I walk the Katy trail in the Jefferson City, Mo. area. We usually go about 2 miles. I am 80 and she is 10 0r 11, two ole gals that are constant pals. Gramma candy
Love to hear from you again. I recovered well, thank you. So happy you have a doggy companion. Dogs are the best
I would recommend you to do this instead:
@wendyoutdoors2230 No pressure, just a recommendation. Happy to see you posting videos. We need more likely you!
It happens so fast. Glad you had help and a quick recovery. How did your hike go?
Yes, I was fortunate. The hike went really well. I did a video"Hiking to My Special Place" if you would like to see it. You may see why I was so determined to get there.
Thank god you didn’t have any serious injuries from that.
I am very grateful for sure and healed well
Sorry! all hikers fall most don't talk about it.I fell on the AT we had snow on top of wet leaves and i hit my head on a rock and had to spend five days in town still have the scar.I fell on the PCT and did a face plant in a burn area unhurt but covered in soot from head to toe my fellow hikers got a good laugh.
Hiking poles are great and are like a second pair of feet but most just drag them along as tent poles they can save your knees on those big downhills and it's easier to keep a constant pace with poles.
Hi Gary- I love my hiking poles too, just have to remember to use them! 😂
@@wendyoutdoors2230 LOL you have a great attitude you would have made a great thru hiker it's mostly mental anyone can hike twenty miles days but to do it for months you need a good attitude .
I am glad that you are not seriously hurt, maybe your pride a bit. A continuation of life lessons, when you get knocked down, get back up.
Sorry for your tumble, but it could’ve happened to a 60-year-old! Looks like you’re healing like a 40-year-old! You go girl!
thanks- no after problems thank fully
💔🥺😢
Yes, but recovered
@@wendyoutdoors2230 very happy to hear that. I'm looking forward to watching your next adventure! ❤️
Oh no!
thankfully I healed well!
Your age is 75 but your body movement looks like you are 40, truly.
well- thanks but I can assure you its not 40😂
