After the Civil War my great grandmother left Philadelphia on a boat to San Francisco to get to Marysville. I have her journal. It's an interesting read.

Thank you for this video, very well done. I appreciate you showing a balance of figures and not making it political. Amazing how much you fit in a relatively short video

Some things wrong. The Frenchman who bought the land from Sutter married Mary Murphy after seeing her abused. The towns name was decided in a meeting of local land owners. It is all documented in a diary of the lawyer who wrote the papers for mainly land transfers and is available online. And the Buddist temple here was built in 1947. Tourism was a thing from the 1920s. Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps show no Buddist temple before WWII. They do show a Jewish meeting building east of the temple.

Why would you say it hasn't flooded in Marysville since the 1800s when it clearly flooded in 1955 and again in 1986 and once again in 1997?

Because the City of Marysville did not flood in 1955; Yuba City did. Marysville did not flood in 1986; Linda and Olivehurst did. Marysville did not flood in 1997; south Yuba County did.

If you live in the area, don't read my comment.. Lol If you are not from here/never been to the area.. In the late1920's Marysville got a levee system. Since then when ever it flooded, it flooded in other places, not Marysville. They always try and keep up the Levees.. Luckily they haven't failed, yet.. Also, Sutter county and Oliverhurst/Linda area have better levee systems now than when the areas flooded way back when.. I hope I don't jinx the area, but Marysville/Yuba City now a days must be the most safe areas when it comes to natural disasters.. We don't get major earthquakes or crazy weather.. Only major concerns is flooding (if the dams fail) and the ash/smoke from wild fires.. Summers it gets really hot..

Marysville has not flooded because of controlled flooding. They purposely bombed levees to flood areas of the county that had very little economic impact.
