I hiked in the Elkhorn mountains a few weeks ago and one guy I met fishing there said I should go to the Eagle Caps next and it's the best place to hike or backpack in Oregon so this video comes at a good time.
I fell in love with the Wallowas when I lived in Spokane, WA and then near Boise, ID. I had friends in both places when I lived in each, and Eagle Cap was always a solid mid point for us to meet up and share our joy of the outdoors. I'm in the flatlands of Texas for a time now, and missing the mountains badly. This video was more enjoyable to watch than I can put in words. Thanks for documenting your trip and sharing it with us all. :)
Thank you for this video. Wife and I have five more States to visit and Oregon is chief on the list. Clearly, Eagle Cap Wilderness needs to play a part.
Some friends & I made it up to RAZZ LAKE which I have yet to see mentioned when discussing lakes in the Eagle Cap wilderness. There was no trail to it off the switchback route we had taken west up from the primary trail but at that time (1972) there was a tiny sign attached to a tree on the right along the switchback trail directing one uphill to RAZZ LAKE. Actually our map & compass were what were more useful but the sign on the tree helped. Heading uphill we got to the lake in about 15-20 minutes. Nice spot with no other campers there at all. May look for it again sometime. I also learned just now that there are more than one Razz lakes & the one we were at is now, apparently easier to find than in 1972. My directions to the Razz lake we were at, I realize are not so clear but after 52 years it’s the best my memory can manage. Sorry! Climbing up the ridge on the north side of Razz lake I had a view of the Matterhorn which we scrambled up a few days later. I had thought it was the highest peak in the Wallowas but just read that Sacajawea peak is a few feet higher. Both are close to 10,000 feet.

As an Oregonian I must request you take this down immediately so we can keep this place a secret 😂
Glad to see a new video. Great job!
