🍃 HIKING The Most BEAUTIFUL -26- Miles In The SAWTOOTH WILDERNESS

- A 5 day backpacking trip on the Alice Toxaway Loop in the Sawtooth Wilderness of Idaho. The Alice Toxaway loop is super customizable. You can take a day hike or overnighter to Alice Lake, Twin Lakes, or Farley. Many people do two nights, a night at Alice Lake, a night at Toxaway Lake and then they exit past Farley Lake. The side trip to Imogene Lake was the hardest part of this trip, but so so worth it.
This place is special to me and if you visit the Sawtooths, I believe they have the power to change your life. You can see more hikes and watch the extended version of the Alice Toxaway series below. Thanks for watching, and we’ll see you next time.

Just watched this after many years. Holy shit I wore my heart on my sleeve. I never wanted to watch this video cuz I was embarrassed about my pack. Took my Mom relentlessly texting me to rewatch it that I finally did. This is the Sawtooths people. There is no better representation of them out there. Looking back on it I can’t believe that’s me and I made this. Holy hell.
Agreed. Thank you, Jon. I needed to see this today. 🙏
Was looking for a video of the Sawtooths before a road trip out there from St. Louis. This video nailed it. Great job.
Thanks for making this beautiful video. I did a couple of 10-day trips there with family as a teenager in the 1980s, and many of those lake names and ridgelines are very familiar to me. I remember how heavy my backpack seemed, and I appreciate that you took one for the team and packed your tripod and other video gear along. Definitely bookmarking/saving this!
What a gem this is! Wonderful trip through spectacular landscapes. The entire presentation focuses on the journey, the sights and sounds of the scenery - a refreshing departure from so many others who use much of the videos filming their talking faces and/or their ultralight gear. Bravo, thanks for taking us along!
You're welcome. Thanks for watching ✌
I am blown away by the ease and pleasure following your hikes and the INTENSE effort you invest for all of us to enjoy as if we were there. I've done a bit of hiking in the Sawtooth Wilderness and after years of back surgeries and procedures, I can finally set the goal of returning to more journeys in Paradise. Your videos keep me inspired! Thank you!
Thanks Clint! Thank you for watching 🙏
My favorite videos are you, a bag of trail mix, the sound of your footsteps, and your quest.
Thanks Debbie 😆 just the giant bag of trail mix. I barely recognize that guy
@@JonConti I still like that guy!
Jon, I've been watching your videos for a couple years now and the time and energy you put in to them is incredible. I'm amazed you don't get more views.
Thanks Nathan! Nothing you can really do about the numbers, just try to improve the work every week and let the chips fall where they may 🙂
That's a gorgeous piece of storytelling right there...
Thank you 🙏
This is a re-upload for anyone saying "wait didn't I see this already?" There were a lot of technical errors in the first one that bothered me and I wanted to add music. So I did, and now its better 😀
Awesome video. I'm headed out into the Sawtooths in a couple weeks.
Sweet, have fun!
Thanks for showing the no drone sign! Just got back from this trip yesterday and definitely woke up to someone’s drone at Alice Lake. Beautiful footage and so well captured!
That's a bummer waking up to a drone. They need a no speaker sign next to it too. Super fun when you're out in the wilderness watching the sunset and all of a sudden you hear Post Malone bumping on someones speaker 100 feet away.
Wow. I've hiked all of these trails on this video and I can't believe how well you captured it. So well done. You had to have put in an extra 10 miles with all your scene set up. I was coming here just to comment on your pack until I saw that you recognized what was going on. Get it up on your hips and tighter to your back and you'll feel so much better. But impressive trip for just getting into it. I've been backpacking most of my 55 years on this earth and there continues to be nothing else that compares.
Thanks Jason!
Amazing photography and editing.
Hi Jon. I live in FL and think it is so diverse and beautiful, but this video made me cry. It's stunning beauty is beyond my ability to describe. Thank you so much for sharing this with us.
Thanks for watching! ✌
As a young lad, and when I was in the boy scouts, when it was real, we both hiked to. Alice Lake in the winter and stayed a couple of days. I can still remember just being at the lake and feeling something that I cannot explain.
Really enjoying your videos. Nice work
I did the Alice-Toxaway Loop when I was 22/23 in a single day, with just a day pack and not enough water. Got hit by a thunderstorm when I crossed the high pass. Very foolish of me, but better a young fool than an old fool.
This is the best video I have ever seen capturing the beauty of the sawtooth mountains (and trust me, I have seen a lot of really really good ones).
that was an incredible video!!!
Beautiful cinema.
I'm not sure how you aren't getting millions of views!! Absolutely breathtaking! I am on a 2 week trip from Alabama to Idaho to visit family and do a ton of hiking! Would love to chat with you about some trails!
Lol awesome! Ya I don't know why either 😂 I'm pretty active on Instagram. If you have a question dm'ing me there is the best.
This JUST popped up on my feed now 😢😢 I'll binge.
We hiked this area growing up!! It’s breathlessly beautiful.
We really enjoyed your videos. Appreciate all the work, and you sharing your experiences. The area looks spectacular for backpacking and you hiked at the perfect time. I'll have to check out that area during one of my vacations!
Thanks Nelson
Well that place is gorgeous! Thanks for sharing
Haha yep! Thanks for watching 😀
@@JonConti no problem! We really enjoy making outdoor videos also
Just did this over the weekend and I’m reliving it through your video. Thank you for the time you spent to put this together! 🙌🏼
You got lucky with the fire. Closed the trail down during the week
@@JonConti woah, that’s crazy! I hope the fires don’t actually reach it 🙏🏼 it’s a trail worth doing a second time.
Amazing!
Thank you!
I found your videos while planning my ID trip. I can’t thank you enough for sharing this beautiful state. Good luck with your future endeavors.
Best video of these hikes out!
Beautiful video! Really enjoyed the peacefulness and your videography and editing skills. Keep it up!
Thank you, thanks for watching 🙂
Great video you have inspired me to go here
Amazing hike! Very professionally Captured! Epic views my friend! Love it! 🥰👌👌
Thanks!
Amazing put together video and breathtaking scenery. Thank you for posting. Looking forward to my 1st trip there in September. This just intensified my urge to get there. Wow!!!
Amazing hike! Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
thirty something years I lived like this
This is a fantastic video🤙 I’ve watched it more than once.
O that's awesome thanks for watching 😀
Beautiful audio and visual.
Fantastic video and editing!! That is an amazing trail. Well done sir!
Why thank you 🙏
I'm definitely going to go to Alice Lake this summer I went to a few others last Summer redfish is on my list too!
This is an incredible video. I am planning this loop in August. I will have my boys, 22 and 16 with me. They are not as experienced as I am. I need to have a plan B in place. Things like bail-out points and what to do if we turn back and get to the trailhead earlier than expected. We arrive at the trailhead on a Sunday morning and our flight home is Thursday evening. Would you be willing to give me some guidance as well as share any secrets: things like hot springs that are remote and worth the visit. Where would be cool to camp on the way back to the airport, and whats the temperature like mid August. Thank you so much for any guidance you may be willing to provide.
You just made my decision for my main hike! Came all the way from Alabama for this! Well, and to see some family lol
Thanks so much! Glad you found it. Welcome to Idaho! ✌
great video! I love your style. You do happen to have the worst fitting pack on UA-cam though 🤣 Looks a little too big?
First time backpacking, plus I had a ton of camera gear. Can't wait for someone to teach ya or worry how you look, you just gotta get out there and figure it out. 😀
Fantastic video!! Well done!!
Thank you! 🙏
Great job on the video a lot of work went into filming all of that!!
Thanks 🙏
So glad I found your channel. Absolutely beautiful. I do have 1 question though. Why do you not use the load lifter straps on your pack?
I know my pack is lopsided & doesn't fit right. I had a lot of camera gear and this was my first multi day trip ever. I started backpacking about 4 months before this trip by taking a cheap backpack, filling it with random pieces of camping gear, and heading out into the woods by myself. After I spent $2200 on gear to improve my set up. This year I partnered with a charity in Boise trying to help others who don't have the money needed for quality gear. You can learn more about it here. growoutdooraccess.com/
We gotta find a way to get the fellas at EXO Mountain Gear to get you one of their packs. Super well designed, Boise based, and they'll help get your pack fit specifically to you. It'll make your future hikes so much more comfortable and efficient. Beautiful video. Truly a joy to watch. Keep up the great work!
@@zenofthemoment I got an Osprey Atmos 65 now with an F-stop Internal carry unit for the camera gear. Works pretty well. If a company could design a backpack with a camera gear section built in I’d spend thousands on it. But as of now now one does that I know of.
So glad you pinned this. Was worried about your back.
Great video as usual, second only to the one with your mom (my favorite). I am planning on hitting the Sawtooth wilderness next weekend. Maybe Hell Roaring Creek Trail to Imogene Lake. Last year I hiked Alice/Toxaway Lake. It was amazing!
Hell Roaring was my first backpack trip ever. Those are two incredible spots. I didn't do the loop but I've been to both lakes and I think they're my two favorites so far.
I got a new hammock setup but a little insecure about finding a good spot to hang. I sure don’t want to also carry a tent. Do you think there is plenty of hanging spots for a overnight hammock at both lakes (Hell Roaring and Imogene)? I suppose I can also post that question on Facebook.
@@Mountain_Climb There's plenty of spots to hang your hammock. Douglas fir is the main tree in that forest.
@@JonConti Perfect, Thank you!
Jon... Great videos Man! I just recently moved here to Idaho falls area because of its proximity to the Grand Tetons having no idea what the Sawtooths we're really all about.
Geeze... they're beautiful
What do you like to do in the Tetons? My Mom and I are doing Cirque of the Towers in the fall. We looked at the Tetons and ended up picking that one down the road.
@@JonConti sorry I had my notifications turned off I didn't even know that you responded.
I'm actually in Montana right now I'm coming back to Idaho for about a week dropping stuff off and then I got to head back to Milwaukee for a medical contract for 3 months and then I'll be back home to Idaho.
I've got my notifications turned on maybe we can hook up when I get back
@@JonConti honestly I can just stand there and look at the Tetons from any angle especially from like driggs and be happy
It must take you forever to hike somewhere: scouting a picturesque site, setting up your camera, hiking past your camera, turning around and backtracking to retrieve your camera... The results look awesome, but the reality of solo-cameraman logistics are hard to imagine.
I am much faster now 😆
Beautiful! What time of year was this? Will be in the area mid-June and hoping the conditions allow for this backcountry country trip.
This video was relaxing as fuck!
Lol thanks
Hey Jon! My husband and I will be in the sawtooths during our honeymoon road trip. Looking to do a 2 day one night backpack while we are driving through. We will be driving from Moon crater to Stanley to North Fork. Looking for more of a intermediate level backpack. If you had something in mind then I would appreciate it. Could be a loop or an out and back. Thanks.
I'd do this one ua-cam.com/video/RuCYfSPNiSY/v-deo.html or this one ua-cam.com/video/6mLLzaVPh9g/v-deo.html Happy honeymooning 🙂
Nicely done. Your choice of music was perfect. Beautiful shots. Your vids get better and better. Thoroughly enjoyed.
The Sawtooths never disappoint.
Thanks Kim, thanks for watching!
Sadly the secret of Pettit lake is out. Too many people flock to it now.
Lol. When was it secret?

Beautiful!! What month did you do this trail?
August
@@JonConti I'm going mid August this year...noticed you swimming...was the water freezing? I'm starting at Redfish inlet ending at Tin Cup. Doing the following lakes: Baron, Cramer, Hidden, Virginia, Edna, Vernon, Rendezvous, Imogene, Toxaway, Twin, Alice, Farley, & Pettit. I'm overwhelmed with the amount of beautiful images I've seen of the area and fear I am going to miss seeing something amazing. In your opinion is there an area I'm not doing that I should include? This is the first video I've watched this far in my planning preparation and first video of yours that I've seen. Great job and thanks for sharing!
Are hikers allowed to pack heat on this trail? After watching 411 about the missing hikers, a little apprehensive about this hike.
Hey Jon - heading through Idaho this summer and hoping to do this loop. When did you do this last year? Do you think late June will be fine and enough snow will be melted by then? Thanks!
Hey Christian. I did this in August. Unfortunately no, not this year. You would need snowshoes for this in late June this year. It's gonna be mid July this year when the Sawtooths open up.
Wow i said this year alot lol
@@JonConti Awesome, thanks for this info! Big fan of your work, and have been following for awhile!
@@Cschuepbach17 thank you Christian 🙏
Which songs did you use?
Sheep outnumbered ppl in certain countries, you got goat outnumbered there
