      @@biozelink6086 It's weird that the side quests are pretty good and a lot of them quite unique but for me the main story is pretty much a mess basically after the Heist. Random things following eachother, i felt so disconnected, especially in the V/Johnny story where they are supposedly learning from eachother to be a better man using their experiences amd basically merging into one then comes the ending where you basically throw out everything you/them learned through the game doesn't matter what you choose.
      If you pick Panam you put your friends amd loved ones into danger just to save yourself, if you pick Johnny or the secret one then you pull a Silverhand 2.0 that will make no difference whatsoever in the long run, or you choose the Arasaka route - which if i think about it makes the most sense, you will keep everyone safe, it's the only way you can save yourself that is basically the core human attribute, but betrays basically the memory of Jackie (also you avoid the next Corp War)

    Hanako calling V in the closing credits offering a job (with him having only 6 months to live) just shows how Arasaka sees the value in him. When Takamura says Hanako forgot V already, it's clearly a lie...and when he says she sent him, it's the actual truth. Arasaka wants V to become their property, and they sent Takamura to convince him to sign the deal. This might be a sad ending, but it's also the most interesting one for a sequel. Arasaka could bring V back to life to fight in the corpo war (maybe concealing some of his memories so he'd be more submissive). Then he could turn against Arasaka when he gets his memories back.

    In other endings, you can find documents in Arasaka Tower. They confirm that "secure your soul" program is a lie, that Arasaka really just wants to enslave people to gain their knowledge and abilities, and they never intended to actually give people new bodies (that was just for Saburo).

    • @TheJuggerClutch
      @TheJuggerClutch 2 роки тому +123

      I dont think they ever advertised the new bodies to the public, only the saving of an engram for your family/business, and sold it to the ultra rich and an elite, luxury item. if you visit the cemetery, there's a rich father/daughter that you can overhear talking, a daughter, visiting the mother's grave. she's tells her dad that another kid at school can go to arasaka, and can still talk to his mom there even though she's dead, and that same kid told her they could too if they just had more money. makes me wonder if the dad was rich enough to afford it, but chose not to for the reason you mentioned, or just couldn't afford it, and now has a daughter that'll grow up to resent him for not being rich enough because she doesn't understand money/life yet. either way, just absolutely crushing stuff.

      @@ShepardCZ yup, so the secure your soul program is a sham and the devil ending is probably the worst case scenario due to this. even though it says no other copy will be made than the original, you're also signing away all your human rights and aren't considered a person. I assume arasaka's lawyers can make the arguement that any contract you signed as a person is void, since you now literally do not have any rights and are considered property. so, I have 0 doubts everything on the contract you sign is a farce, and Arasaka copies/imprisons/interrogates/studies/does anything they want with V's engram since they're able to capture it well before death. Unlike Jackie if Arasaka gets his body, who's mind transfer is corrupted but still half-alive. I imagine the market version, like the girl at the cemetery was talking about, is a bit like Jackie's, but much more comprehensive/convincing to whoever is left behind to speak to it.

    I believe Yorinobu was misunderstood the entire game. I think he already knew about Saburos plans to eventually transfer his consciousness to his body, which is why he betrayed him and as a last resort killed him at the hotel and then formed his own faction within Arasaka so things wouldn't spin out of control.
    There are a few hints to this: when your talking to Hanako she says that she still loved his brother but he didnt know his place, whereas she did. Saburos children were to be his vessel for immortality and I believe they both knew that, but that terrible fate befell Yorinobu presumably because Saburo would want to go on a male body. Hanako was loyal to Saburo until the end.
    Another hint was when you finally talk to Yorinobu himself, when he says "I tried everything", hinting that he knew that killing Saburo at the hotel was just a temporary measure, he knew that Saburo was still alive as an ingram somewhere and that the only way to escape his fate was to gather support in the board within Arasaka and wage war against Hanako and Saburos retainers.
    And another is when you spy on Hanako when she is talking on the phone with her brother, she says "I only agreed to this to honor the memory of our father" hinting that there was some sort of truce between the siblings to show the world everything was alright within Arasaka while their power struggle went on.
    Enter V: since Takemura was also loyal to Saburo, and wanted back into the Arasaka fold, he arranged a meeting with Hanako, and at that moment she realized that Vs help would have been just what she needed to tip the balance of that power struggle in her favor, defeat Yorinobu and restore power to Saburos faction, so she seized the opportunity.
    Yorinobu turned out to be the most misunderstood character in the game, Hanako turned out to be the real villan, and V was, as the tarot suggests "the fool".

    • @elbalerto
      @elbalerto 3 роки тому +408

      Except Yorinobu was willing to spark off a new corpo war while doing so. Every other ending has background chatter reporting escalating tensions between Militech and Arasaka that will lead to an inevitable corpo war. Only in the Devil ending is the war averted, what with a resurrected Saburo cooling off the tensions that Yorinobu's coup caused.
      Also, the dude killed his father not according to some plan but simply because he lost control of his emotions. Only Saburo's carelessness allowed Yorinobu to lash out in violence. If he hadn't sent Takemura away for some privacy, then Yorinobu wouldn't have been able to choke him to death.
      This is why I do not agree that Yorinobu is merely misunderstood. I believe that the Cyberpunk 2077 version of Yorinobu is an impulsive, selfish, and incompetent goon with daddy issues.
      On an off-note, it is also why I find the Devil ending to be the only heroic ending. The game goes out of its way to point out how 'wrong' all your decisions are leading up to this point.
      It is, however, the only ending where your actions prevent another corpo war from decimating the world of Cyberpunk.
      Which is funny, because every other ending praises you for 'going out in a blaze of glory' or 'riding off into the sunset' while conveniently glossing over the fact that yet another corpo war is lurking round the corner--one that you could have prevented if you worked with instead of against Arasaka.

    • @DouglasZanini
      @DouglasZanini 3 роки тому +156

      @@elbalerto I felt bad for Yorinobu at the end, and it seems the corpo wars are commonplace in this universe (there had been like 4 past wars if memory serves). As a player you only ever see Yorinobu talking to people 3 or 4 times, and you only ever talk to the guy one time. To me there is simply not enough evidence to support the claim that Yorinobu is inherently bad, whereas there is plenty of showing how much of a merciless megalomaniac Saburo is, even Hanako herself admits that.
      I think in the context of Yorinobu being a prisioner in his own family after trying to leave and go his own way, to become just a puppet to realize his fathers masterplan of endless ambition justifies him killing his own father even though he himself appears to be acting out of impulse, or simply seizing his opportunity to do so, if Saburo is usually kept in a safe location at all times, we simply do not know.
      And so, having a person to be a well stablished megalomaniac by all accounts and to have that person find the secret of immortality, even going as far as to sacrifice his own blood to achieve it really doesn't sit well with me.

    • @elbalerto
      @elbalerto 3 роки тому +82

      @@DouglasZanini Saburo also wanted to execute Yorinobu after the latter's first rebellion but stayed his hand when Hanako plead clemency--at least according to Takemura.
      Also, the elite of the Cyberpunk already can already live forever with gene therapy. It's how an ancient fossil predating WW2 could live up to 2077.
      These two factors potentially negate the idea that Yorinubo was kept around solely as a spare body.
      And even if Saburo kept his son around as a spare body, I think that an even-tempered dictator that maintains the status quo sounds better than a hot-headed dictator who wages war against the world.
      You don't see much of what happens after Yorinobu takes over Arasaka in the other endings. You do, however, get clued in by hints of an upcoming corpo war--one that only gets averted in the Devil ending where Saburo revives.
      Yep, there have been 4 wars in the CP universe. But just because we had WW1 and WW2 in our timeline doesn't mean WW3 would be something to shrug off

    Fun fact:
    The name Yorinobu in Japanese means to reliably extend (get it, he's born to "extend" Saburo's life). This to me makes me think/believe that Yorinobu was born to be taken over by Saburo's engram, and he knew that and so he turned on Saburo.
    Also, the name Saburo means third born Son...which might make you think...was the Arasaka engram already used 3 times before and this is the tradition of the Arasakas.

      Too easy to forget that the Arasaka clan are OLD. Saburu dies at 150. Hanako and Yorinobu are in their 80s, at least. Their birth likely preceded the development of even Soulkiller in 2013, much less the prototype biochip which allows an engram to take over a host. "Yorinobu" could also mean to "reliably extend" the Arasaka family dynasty.
      But at least that's more interesting than "Hanako": "flower girl", but also "splendor" or "ostentation".

    This ending has such a different feel with Takemura alive. Without him it feels like you jump head first into a wolf pack with no help, no lead in, and no one you can truly trust because you know Hanako is just using you. However with Takemura, you feel a bit more at ease navigating the crazy environment of Arasaka. You know he’s honorable and trusts V enough to take him at his word. And plus you know Takemura wouldn’t abandon you or let anything happen to you once’s he’s given his word that you would live. I feel like if V chooses to go to Mikoshi, Takemura continues to pull some strings on the outside to get V a body as quickly as possible and keep him safe from outside sabotage.

      And there is similar ambiguity to the endings. Suicide ending means more friends live. Uploading your soul with secure your soul with Takemura is probably the ending that likely results with V actually living long term. The Aldecaldos ending is very sad for everyone but V, half of the gang dies and it's basically up to you and Panam to find a way to cure V. Johnny endings let V go to cyberheaven while Johnny gets a new lease on life. The secret ending is arguably the "best" as it lets V live out his dream of being a Night City legend, he's rich as hell, with Rogue alive and no casualties to any pals. Mr. Blue Eyes appears to have an offer to save V in those endings as well. There's so much different with all the routes, if you want to say otherwise just because "V dies no matter what" you're ignoring literally everything about the contexts of those endings.

      @Alan Biju @loserface both of you are partly right and partly wrong. The game is short and sometimes repetitive. It was indeed cut when it comes to quests. However the story is actually good, in fact best story I've ever played in a videogame, if you ignore the mechanical issues. there are many endings, majority of which leave a lot of possibilities for a continuation, the characters are well written and what happens to them has an emotional effect on us - the players. This game had a lot effort put into it and you can see that through a lot of little details throughout the map and the gameplay and yet it still came out completely unfinished, full of bugs and glitches. This shows how much of a commitment this game was, the fact that the massive amount of effort and time put into the game, did not even equal the performance and quality of the game. My theory to why that is the case is due to the unrealistic expectations from the fanbase and CDPR's desire to make the best game ever by far. The expectation forced CDPR to try to make the game better than any game or movie ever released, therefore they flew too high, got too close to the sun and burnt their wings. When they realized that this is the case, they did not have the time to fix and refine the game, so instead they NEEDED to cut it and focus on fixing the most important parts. This is why there are quests that seemed unfinished and game mechanics that were missing or disfunctional. This is a story of Icarus in the videogame production world.
      Now this is my theory and it seems like the most likely one to be true.
      I could be wrong though, like anyone else that's human

    • @MrPanos2000

      Alan is spot on. The game has TON of unrealised potential, sadly underutilised. The life paths/intros are pathetic and irrelevant, with streetkid being the obvious "canon" choice. The endings are for the most part identical, with no substancial differences between them, except a couple that stand out as clearly superior. In the inbetween, the plot that leads up to the endings is rushed and ridden with plot holes. It is evident they cut a lot of content and stiched things together. The city by itself (NPC's, quests, the world itself) are not nearly as deep as promised by CDPR marketing. In the end as much as I enjoyed the game, I am equally dissapointed. Not because of unrealistic expectations, but because of unmet promises the company itself made. For me the game is 6.5/10, taking story, game world and gameplay into account

    People say how the moments like Johnny's last goodbye 'Never stop figthing', or V singing 'never fade away' while down on his way to slow death, or Judy crying on her bed after two suicides hit them hard, and absolutely rightly so. I personally loved the nomad ending the most. BUT. After this video, the most hitting lines for me are Takemura's last words. "Goodbye, V" and "Meet me in Kagawa - I will show you what is real food". There is some kind of grim soul-crushing realism in that the last person who genuinly cares about you on your doorstep to oblivion is an old and strangely honorable Corpo veteran.
    Having Hellmann leading you on your way to Mikoshi made that ending simply scary and hopeless, just pure black in the end of the tunnel. Having Takemura, though, hits really hard. It gives it that tiny sliver of hope that makes it all unbearable. Like, you desperately want him to be there for you in the end, to make things up so you survive and are reborn and you both meet, but at the same time you realize he's, too, not all powerful and not a hero; he's a disgrunted old soldier, a cog in a machine. Still he's the last hope and the last caring person you see in your life, and his genuine desire to help you makes it all the more hurting. Bye, old dog, you might be wrong, but I still liked you. May we meet again and you realize how wrong you were. Sayounara.

    They wrote this ending perfectly. It accurately describes what Corporations are in the cyberpunk world, heck even in our present world. At first it makes you feel that it is the right choice since Hanako contacts you and invites to talk with you. It looks good from the outside. You feel like Hanako is "one of the good ones" but the more you play it the more you realize how shit the ending is, how Hanako is just another corporat using you for her advantage, how you are treated purely as an asset and that they only promise to treat you because of your use, and how unwelcome you are in the corpo environment. The time that you exit the AV coughing and barely standing, they just look at you and Hanako doesn't even ask you directly if you can keep your end of the deal is what makes you first realize. Then, the tests at the end with the nurse with her cold and indifferent attitude really puts the icing on the cake. Nobody cares about you. Lastly, choosing to "live" for arasake is the absolute worst decision you could ever make because it shows you didn't learn anything from the past 20 minutes.

    It honestly breaks my heart to see V standing there next to the engram table thing at 1:16:39 - He (or She) looks so tired, desperate, defeated even. It always hits hard for me. All that effort to save yourself, all the small victories and defeats you take along the way. Becoming an engram has to be the saddest ending because its V at their lowest. V going back to Earth, you can understand why they'd be angry - 6 months left to live and you spent a portion of it in that space station? All that trouble only to be left disappointed? Sent back to Earth without your shoes? You'd be pissed too. But you get to live those 6 months how you feel so it's not entirely bad.
    Aside from the Suicide Endings, the other Endings were at least much more hopeful, that V gets to either live a quiet life (with Aldecaldos) or blaze of glory (becoming head of Afterlife) or if you're more a fan of Johnny, let the rockerboy have a second lease in life.

    • @empdisaster10
      @empdisaster10 Рік тому +7

      I think one of the things is V realizes nothing the did mattered and all they were was a pawn for others in this ending. The Arasaka raid wasnt your plan, the chip getting removed didnt help, and all you did was cut off ties with the people that truly cared about V. Arasaka doesnt care, they dont even view you as a threat since they removed the chip and theres no chance of the technology getting in other peoples hands. They had gotten what they wanted from Johnny long ago so shredding the chip isnt any bad thing to them, and even then they likely still have another copy in mikoshi so johnny isnt even free. You're nothing more than a science experiment to them. Proof they can tear a person apart, rip parts of their soul and brain out, and weld them back together with cybernetics and science. The doctor said it best, not even the soul is safe from the edge of a blade anymore.

      The overarching conflict within this universe is freedom vs duty. In a world, without limits, you can either slum it and be free only to die a "glorious" death, or play the "game" and acquire power, money, and potentially immortality at the cost of your individuality and ultimately shackled by duty/loyalty. The game isnt as black and white as it appears, and as seen in the anime people will do anything to climb the social ladder. A corpo climbing the ladder is no different than a street kid getting chromed out to gain clout, they both lose their humanity in the process. Sadly this is the direction were headed towards, but at least in the game you have the illusion of choice.
      I opted for this ending myself, JS and anarchism is not the solution -- true change comes in revolution, the people rising up. The way I see it, the higher you climb, the more power and influence you can acquire, wish there was an ending that eluded towards this, a sort of "working within the system to enact change." The whole world is fucked, arasaka aint any worse than the other gangs in NC -- its just more organized.

    The Arasaka endings are generally considered "bad" and though what endings are bad or good is a matter of perspective... generally I agree here..., but if Takemura is there I think it greatly changes the slant of the ending.
    V had his shot at a full life essentially stolen from him. Johnny is entitled to his opinion, but from a certain point of view, V here is "fighting" to the bitter end to stay alive and defy his fate, even if it means doing something insane like backing up his personality and hoping for an Altered Carbon esque scenerio to happen in the future. You're still essentially signing away your existence and putting your trust in a Corp and luck, but the way I like to see it...if Takemura is there and you've helped him all along the way, you've made a possibly lifelong friend. Someone who might stick his neck out for your second chance, even if everyone else forgets and even if he himself remains in Saburo's service. His little quip about meeting you again to take you to eat some "real" food I think really hits hard, because rather than trusting your luck to the company in a way you're trusting your luck and your very existence to a friend.
    It's still a shot in the dark, he may not come through for you, but it's still a chance. It definitely makes the Arasaka ending a bit less depressing than just blindly trusting yourself to an faceless corporation.

    Meredith Stout DLC idea:
    This character felt like she could of having a lot of potential and impact in the game, here are some of my ideas:
    She is Romancable (by both genders)
    She has side quests, which deal with Militech
    Gives you another possible ending, where you side with Militech and help them become more powerful because of the side quests that you completed for them as well as killing Yorinobu Arasaka as well as Hanako. Moreover, if you didn't save Takemura and didn't kill Oda then, you would have a potential of 3 Hard boss fights (which are Takemura, Oda (who becomes much stronger than your last fight) and of course Adam Smasher.
    The Ending entails to a potential future war between the two corporate companies which could then be seen in a later Expansion of the game.
    Moreover, the ending would lead to the Militech Scientists saying they can save you by finding a potentially suitable body for you provided you stay alive within the next 6 months.

    This ending pisses me off, Arasaka's best and brightest buy you no time? This ending should be the "save your body, sell your soul" ending, where continued treatments keep you alive, but you have to accept a position within Arasaka working for Takemura as deputy chief of security- for life - and go with him to Tokyo. Everyone you've met and care about hates you for being a sellout, and you have to leave them all behind with no notice, but you get Corpo V's original dream. You can say no, of course, but the Arasaka won't pay for the 6 million eddy/month experimental nano-treatment mcguffin, and we go back to V having 6 months and heading back to NC.
    The game also needed a HEAVILY built up but completely missing synthesis ending, where Alt merges you and Johnny into a single lifeform capable of living in V's body, and a Delemain ending where his greater understanding of the human element allows him to come up with a solution (maybe gives johnny the body and writes V into the biochip, so that V eventually takes the body back over - essentially giving JOHNNY the 6 months to live.

Cloning is a thing in this world and if Arasaka permits, rather, requires, then an "new" V isn't too far-fetched. I hope to see if they go the route of a sequel for them to have this be the canon ending. Its not a great ending, but one with a lot of interesting implications and they can go for the Mass Effect route of having the choices you made in this game effect the V in the future one. Even straight up copying your V's appearance (as a clone now) to add that extra bit. Maybe don't make it glaringly obvious that V has started working for Arasaka and the players will inevitably trust this character that WAS their V only to have them be betrayed. Would add a nice sting and honestly make for some really interesting story to me. Then again players who didn't pick this ending would hate that probably.

  • @MythicRanger2401
    @MythicRanger2401 3 роки тому +149

    Man, even with Takemura, signing that contract has gotta be the worst possible ending.
    Think about it - V is someone who's already successfully raided Arasaka. They survived multiple fully armed death squads, defeated Oda and kidnapped Hanako, and (in the Devil ending) slaughtered Yorinobu's entire elite guard, as well as Adam Smasher. All with Johnny Silverhand living in their mind. To Arasaka, V is one of their biggest threats - someone capable of taking them on, and inspiring others to do the same.
    It's almost certain Arasaka will never give V a body. At best, they'll be stuck in a hard drive doing nothing for eternity. Even with Takemura alive, that probably won't change. He's just a tool to Arasaka, they won't care what he thinks.
    There's a reason that final prompt is "surrender to Arasaka" - that's what you're doing. You're not winning, and you're not surviving. You're surrendering. Because you failed. If you got this ending, well, Johnny put it best.

      having the guy who almost singlehandedly took back arasaka tower *for arasaka* on your security team would certainly help in dissuading folks from acting up, possibly including other companies--or they use you in the likely inevitable war, since you've more than proven your effectiveness.

The real Johnny died long ago. He has no right to life anymore. Fuck him and let him be incinerated.

    I think having Goro in this ending kinda swaps things around a bit. Because he is like Panam and Rogue, a friend. Having him alive gives you a bigger excuse than just trusting Hanako in this ending.

    I know people may see this as crazy, considering the corpo hate from both the game itself and the fans, but the Arasaka family handles you in very good faith. People seem to not realize that the corp not only pardons your transgression of stealing from them, but they actually honor their deal in treating you. Mind you this is the only ending which you are not soul killed (unless you agree to later). Which is ironic, seeing how the game tries to sell you the bs of selling out to the corp when you literally trade countless souls to alt (who I doubt is an ally to humanity in the long run), sacrifice allies, AND get soul killed for the same result as the Arasaka ending. The cherry on top is that the world is in way worse place for the common man considering Yorinobu is a corpo version of Johnny (maybe worse) as he is arguably worse than his father and has a corpo war on the horizon. I don't get how the writers (or fans) believe the others endings are even remotely better when looking at the big picture. People speak about how evil Arasaka is (and for good reason I know), but they are not antagonistic towards you at all. The crazy thing is how people complain about how you are treated on the station, which I find utterly laughable/insane. You are isolated. In the palm of the 'enemy'. In space. Do they lie to V? Do you wake up strapped to the soulkiller, with the Arasaka's taunting you before adding your useful soul to their collection? Do they do any inhumane and tortuous experimentation to a vulnerable V, keeping him/her in their clutch's to expand their scientific research for the relic? Is V wisked off to a terrible fate, never to be heard from again? No. They keep their word, subject you to harmless exercises by a cold and detached doctor (Really, are people crying about this? From Arasaka?) Then instead of just releasing you where you die later suddenly (how truly cold of a ending would that have been?) they inform you that the operation is a failure and give you a CHOICE. Enlist in the secure your soul for 'free' (c'mon, the Saka family obviously sees you as extremely valuable and want to retain you, but hey, in cyberpunk having value is not bad. Especially if the Saka corp is being this good faith about it) or you can live and die on your own terms. Again, I ask how is this OBJECTIVLY worse? Because some people with a hate boner for corpos (is understandable to a point) spill some bs morals lies about freedom and nihilism? In a game where you are a cog in a wheel who sells your services to do all sorts of things that are questionable? I also believe that Hanako will honor her deal and restore you because everything she has done for you is only positive. They have had numerous opportunities to soulkill, trick, or outright subdue/kill you. Why would they waste time why they could take you by force? Especially when you would be of no use to them initially (you would be a special engram that needs a special body) they have every power to treat you as an object and resource they could subjugate freely, yet choose to regard you as an ally and asset. Maybe there is some honor among them, in their own special way......
