  • Hi everyone thank you for taking the time to watch the video
    Please read below
This aquascape was created by myself in a Fluval Rome 90, it took about 7 hours from start to finish. Most of the time was taken up tying plants and mosses onto the Manzinita Wood. This is the first time i have attempted something like this and i hope you all like it.
The wood that was placed on the bottom was covered in Taxiphyllum sp. 'Spiky' moss and hopefully i can sculpt that nicely as it grows. Along side them i used Staurogyne Repens, Eleocharis Parvula and Echinodorus Tenellus these should hopefully spread out and with abit of work should create a nice semi carpet.
On the upright piece of wood i used Anubias sp. 'Petite', Microsorum Pteropus 'Narrow' and Taxiphyllum sp. 'Spiky' moss. The moss was fastened using a single piece of wire in the center to try and encourage the moss to grow into a circular shape (fingers crossed)
In the back left corner of the tank i added some Vallisneria Nana, as this grows it should flow across the top of the tank creating a small bit of shade.
Scattered around the bottom of the tank in selected locations i used Cryptocoryne x Willisii, Hygrophila Corymbosa 'Siamensis', Hygrophila Polysperma 'Rosanervig' and Cyrptocoryne Beckettii 'Petchii'.
I hope you all enjoyed the video, below you will find details of the setup:

I saw a tank like that. It had an orange light behind the backdrop to simulate sunset and it was absolutely amazing. Search for 0dallas on here and you'll see it. By the way, great video and tank!

sure you can, its a very simple layout really. The hardest part is still to come, keeping it healthy and shaping it how i want :)

It has got LED and i dont use backdrops as i like the open feel of tank. I have been think about trying a frosted glass look with lighting behind but not sure yet

great result. i'd love to see how the tank looks now, two years later.
is it really okay, to use that sand straight out of the bag? i almost lost my mind, when i spent over an hour rinsing just 5kg for my little tank. (the water was still cloudy after that marathon)

i actually use non rot coated tying wire, the sort of stuff people use to fasten climbing plants in the garden

the background in the vid is just some white paper behind the tank so viewers can see the layout better. That is now removed and its just the wall behind. Im not a lover of backgrounds as i like the open feel of an aquarium :)

Beautiful tank. I've messed up my set up and wonder if someone could give me some advice. I added water way too fast and kicked up most of the fertilizer and it has mixed with my substrate and most of the fertilizer is on top now. Is it ok to leave the fertilizer on top or should i start over? I was thinking of removing some and then putting in a new layer of substrate. It is a brand new tank so not a massive disaster. Thanks.
