    This game looks surprisingly close to Banjo Kazooie Grunty's Revenge, but they have different developers and both released in 2003 so i guess it's a coincidence

      I’m actually very unfamiliar with even the console Banjo Kazooie games so I can’t really comment on that haha! I think a lot of Game Boy Advance versions of console games kinda had this same vibe though, like the Spyro GBA games look sorta similar to this too.

    I haven't really watched your Oddworld reviews as I'm not that invested in the series, but this was a good video! Also, I love that intro, MrPseudonymless did an amazing job on it.

      Thanks! Yeah Oddworld is a fairly niche series to be fair, but I figured it might be a good thing to dive into seeing as not many people have talked this in depth about the Game Boy games!
      Yeah he really did! He actually made the intro last year for the first Oddtober but I'm really happy with how it turned out! :D

      I’m getting sick of these bots!! When they comment on a chain of comments like this it’s a lot harder to find them and report them!
      Either way they’re gone for now :D

    This was the first game I’ve ever played for the Xbox and still the reason why I appreciate Microsoft’s valiant effort in being “experimental”. It’s a shame that it was mostly forgotten in the sands of time, but I’ll never forget the uniqueness and kitchen sink-like gameplay. I know this review is for the GBA version, which is notably a huge step down, but I just love it when this OddWorld entry gets the spotlight.
    So excited for Soulstorm and the planned Stranger’s Wrath sequel!

      It was one of the first games I played for the Xbox too! The Oddworld games, Halo and Fable are the only reasons I even own an original Xbox! It's a shame that most big publishers don't tend to take risks much nowadays, but at least it means that these older games stand out more!
      I have actually reviewed the console version of Munch's Oddysee as well here on the channel! In fact I've reviewed every single Oddworld game including the weird Game Boy ones! :D
      I'm excited for Soulstorm too! It isn't long now until it's finally out!

    The password thing is due to the chips required for saving in GBA games leads to costing more so a lot of games, this port as well using a password system. In other words, they were cheap.

    • @PixelPursuit
      @PixelPursuit  2 роки тому

      Yeah I know, loads of Game Boy and Game Boy Color games did that, but I think by the time the GBA released, most games had a proper save system. It was probably a sign of a cheaply made game if it used passwords 😅 it was definitely a little bit outdated by that point!

    if munch was for ps1 it would have looked like this

    • @PixelPursuit
      @PixelPursuit  3 роки тому

      It probably would have looked better than this to be fair! But yeah it would have been really interesting to see what Munch’s Oddysee would have been like if it was made for the PS1. It probably would have been a 2D platformer like the first two games!

    Haven't started the vid yet but will edit my response here. There's no way this game can be worse than the console version. That's almost not even possible.
    EDIT: I'm not surprised this is better. Honestly, I feel like the console version of Munch's Odyssey is one of the worst games I've ever played. I have played few games that are as tedious and poorly paced as that one. Not one part of that game is enjoyable to me.

      Haha, when I saw you post that comment initially, I was thinking that you're already spot on without even knowing it!
      Yeah I would definitely say that the GBA version is better. I'm a fellow hater of Munch's Oddysee but I did somewhat enjoy my time with this version, so at least there's some kind of redemption there!

    ahaha bruh you shaved your head :D
    yes, bruh this. The cheaper the game is to make, the more creative freedom you get.
    Look at PS5 games, tell me, which PS5 game is a completely brand new idea? All sequels, remakes, and stolen/recycled ideas from older games, and they are even afraid to make a sequel of controversial/less successful games, like Manhunt, for example, Rockstar's peak IMO, because Rockstar just said, f*ck that, let's make a really cool game with a huge message, screw the media. Or GX. Sega and Nintendo collab? HELL YES!!! Nowadays game creators are p*ssies.
    in this case, 2D to 3D was a hard jump for Oddworld Inhabitants, so obviously, the 2D continuation is better.
    Also what I noticed, the worse the graphics are, the more is going on in your imagination.
    It is like reading a manga vs watching the anime if you understand!
    What I found interesting, in older games I remember the environments in my head more than in newer games! So that must mean your head is doing more work while playing older 3D games even! When playing The City of Lost Heaven, I know the whole town by heart and I feel like Salieri's bar is my home! But maybe that is because Vavra is a genius. And the first Mafia is completely his without others messing with his vision. (That is why he left, other people were screwing with his work and his vision) imagine your boss will tell you, Rob, just quit doing UA-cam videos, jump out of the window! And thanks to that f*ck, newer Mafia games were created without the original mastermind even though he said, he is still super upset since the new ideas were completely revolutionary! (In original Mafia 3 you had 2 main characters and you were investigating yourself as a cop! for example, one of the things he revealed in his original script)

      Haha, yeah I always cut my hair really really short like once a week! It grows insanely fast though so by the time I normally record the videos, it's at the normal length!
      Yeah that's a very good point. The one's I'm most looking forward to are Demon's Souls, Spider-Man and Ratchet & Clank which are all massive franchises or remakes. I will say though, another one I'm looking forward to is Little Devil Inside which is completely new, but that's an indie game! Outside of indie stuff, practically nothing is original.
      It took one bad game for Oddworld to sort out their 3D game design. To be honest though most of the reason Munch's Oddysee is bad isn't even the fault of Oddworld Inhabitants and it was more so the publishers rushing it out and not giving them enough time or a big enough budget to achieve their ambition.
      That's definitely true, that's a part of the reason why pixel art games are still so popular. It allows you to use your imagination a lot more!
      The reason for that could also be that most modern games are massive open worlds, so you're never going to remember any one particular area because they're so massive and always have you going to different places. Like how memorable is Shadow Moses island from MGS1? Then compare that to the areas in MGSV and literally no area stands out, it's all just bland and recycled.
      But yeah, it's a shame that Mafia and so many of these other game series went so badly downhill. They need to stop following what the popular trends are and do something that's actually unique!

      3 years later, there is finally a new game on the PS5, Stellar Blade
