When I was in 8th grade in my Catholic grammar school, the teacher asked each one of us to pick a song that we felt spoke of togetherness and bringing people together. This was the record I brought in when it was my day to play something. My classmates loved it. The teacher didn’t know what to make of it! 😂
These guys were wild. Detroit/ Midwest mindset. If you don't sweat, you get no respect. Hard working people want the same out of the bands who play there.
Bringing the "funk, the whole funk and nothing but the funk". Everybody talks about the 80s. The "solid gold 70s" had the greatest variety of music of any decade I can think of. Happy New Year! 🥳
Let me tell you something I’m 67 years old. George Clinton was a genius when it came down to fun music. He knew how to put it together. He was a genius.
I write this on the first day of 2025. It's mainly a list of "Thank Yous" First, thanks for sharing your love of music with the world. Your enjoyment of good music without bias for genre is awesome. You, along with our brother Jamel aka Jamal do the important work of keeping great music alive. Greedy lawyers and narrow minds that file copyright blocks, fail to understand that without you, people could easily forget their music. Next, thank you for being a coach. You may never know how much of a role you've played in the lives of 'your kids'. Believe me, it's significant. I'm 61 and some of the greatest men I've ever known were my high school coaches. Lastly, Thank you for the class and demeanor that you've shown during your time of heartbreak. A lesser man might have been vindictive and mean, but you have been a Gentleman and a model of Grace. I hope you and your family have a truly wonderful New Year.❤
“Talent his a target no one else can hit, genius hits a target no one else can see.” How did they make up that beat combination?! Never replicated #BackyardBBQMusic
Thank Detroit's own, Larry Fratangelo. Larry is a master percussionist and just KILLED this track. The monkey sound you hear is from a Brazilian instrument called a cuica.
“Even if this is not your thing” Trust, this was EVERYONE’S thang back in the day, and if for some reason it wasn’t I wouldn’t want to know you. “I always say I wish I could go back:” Jordan, all of us old heads wish the exact same thing all the time especially in this world today. 👍🏽 God bless and Happy New Year to you and whole family.
Listening is one thing, seeing them live, and in person is a whole other experience… Funkadelic to the core😂😂😂. Happy new year J and to all the Rob squad viewers May 2025 be kind and good to all of you❤️❤️👍
I love when you catch that beat in your soul.. head -knocking, body-rocking, great music just takes over and ur going for a ride, Happy New Year to You and Yours 🎉❤💯🤛🏽
Thee Jam in High school! I was 14 years old when this song came out , and I’m the big 6 0 now. Thanks for taking me down memory lane with this. Love it . Happy New Year Jordan .
Happy New Year, J! Most of these guys were from my home town of Plainfield, NJ. My older brothers used to hang out with them. They were originally called The Parliaments back in the 1960s, then expanded into Parliament-Funkadelic with George Clinton, Gary Shider, Billy "Bass" Nelson, Glen Goins and a host of others including Bootsy Collins and Phillipe Wynn from the Spinners. Their live shows were something to behold!
Great song to end the year with Jay! I wish you much love and happiness in the New Year and always. Love seeing you happy and grooving to the 70’s music! I grew up in this era, and it was absolutely amazing! So many fun and funky memories! ♥️☮️
This is what I'm talking about !! Pure Funk Nasty ! The P- Funk All-stars , George Clinton, The Bride Of Funkenstein, combine them all together in a concert was off the chain so happy that I grew up in this musical era ! The songs from these groups are over 30 years old that's how timeless this music is and is still reverend in the right now ! This new generation you just don't know, your Mother's Father's Uncle's , Auntie's and other old schoolers family members they too were all there doing this era when this music era came out this was one of the best music era ! And they all are together still on tour .
Innovative back in the day, still innovative today. Love this song. Try 'Toast to the Boogie' by Funkadelic, another funky song and I think maybe my second fave of theirs after One Nation. Hope this goes on your playlist J! You'll love it better and better with each listen.
They were the "ochestra" of FUNK! So many moving parts, all coming together to create that FUNK. Every instrument/sound has it's own little space and plays it's part! Can't be still when this jam is on...I was privileged to get to see them live back in the day! Man!!
I wish you nothing but success sir but for me the previous reaction duo combo/team was a special thing. Not sure this works as a solo gig. Just my opinion but I wish you success. ❤
Happy New Year, so happy you’re finally checking this funky tune out! The entire LP is worth a listen. I was lucky enough to see them in concert back in the 70’s 🤘
Middle school for me. These records were walking through the halls being shared & loved. I remember Ohio Players vinyl jackets openly displayed. Try that today 😂. Definitely a better time!
My favorite by them. I just remember I was a small kid when this dropped, but I played it in high school until this present day! Here's our chance to dance our way baby!
J my man, when you get the chance privately, check out the long version with da killer guitar solo, it will blow you away. The same wit the 15min version of ‘Knee Deep’ killer guitar solo🎉🎉🎉.
Now only did you have great music but no cellphones when folks when out you went to party and party hard! What's crazy is you only heard the album version there's a 12 inch version that goes for 11 1/2 minutes with a pretty nice guitar solo in it! The deejay had to play a slow jams so you could get a break a drink and get ready for the next fast jams to start! 😎 Oh and Happy New Year's!🥳
George Clinton is an absolute master! He got Funkadelic and Parlliament to get our feet moving, and he started so many other careers as well. (One that's less known is that he resurrected Vanessa Williams's career after her nude picture scandal cost her the Miss America crown; one of his backup singers [Debra Barsha][ was a friend of hers from college and George hired Vanessa on Barsha's say-so.) But everybody talks about George…let's mention the OTHER George Clinton. George E. Clinton (from New Jersey) is the famous one, the guy who's in the Hall of Fame. But George S. Clinton (from Tennessee) is one of the most successful soundtrack composers in Hollywood, having written the original music for everything from the "Moral Kombat" films to "Wild Things" to the "Austin Powers" trilogy, and has received *5* BMI Awards. But before all that, George S. was a struggling songwriter in LA, signed to ABC records. In 1972, he composed a prog-rock song called "After You Leave Me" and got it recorded by two groups looking for material for their debut albums…a prog-rock 6-piece from Fargo ND named Overland Stage, who only got the one album produced…and a 5-piece from Chicago named Styx, who ended up doing notably better. With this and other career momentum, George S. went on to form The George Clinton Band (quite possibly trying to trick people into thinking he was George E, but hey, it's HIS name, too) and they got one album out. Which stiffed, but has been well-received every time it's been reviewed. I can't even find all the tracks on UA-cam (and certainly not on Spotify) so I can't say if George's own version of "After You Leave Me" is closer to Overland Stage or to Styx (one or the other made a significant change to the lyrics), but what is out there is damn good. Try "Jungle Love" (NOT the Steve Miller Band tune, this was two years before that)…it's bewitchingly beautiful. And so George S. eventually went to Hollywood, while George E. kept pumping up the funk. And yes, this was a bit of a detour…but how was I supposed to request George S. Clinton without y'all thinking I was asking for George E?
So funny that you mentioned The George Clinton Band as almost nobody remembers them. “Jungle Love” was a big house party jam with the people I used to chill with in NY back in the day. A blast from the past, lol…
I'm 72 years, old. I lived in Detroit when they were first coming out. I've collected Funkadelic records since the late 1960s. I still have the vinyl albums in my collection. Check out Cholly (Funk Getting Ready to Roll!) from the same album you just played.
I remember when they were inducted into the HOF. Thought they'd run out of room on the stage before everyone got up there. You can't listen to this and not smile. I would imagine they got really stoned when recording and just said hey let's throw in this sound here. 😂
Jay, these were my years and although I was a rocker, I loved all genres. It was even better than you are imagining. It was all parties, jam sessions with friends, and concert after concert. We did not fear violence or terror, and there were no super bugs and viruses to scare us, no AIDS, it was all about being young and being totally free! Life was off the rails and music was EVERYTHING. No talk radio to speak of. If somebody had a radio station, they were playing great music. Summers with songs by the pool were the best. It was a time of being completely uninhibited, feeling no pain thanks to some relatively safe party favors, but the very best part was being young, fearless, and free! The late 60s and 70s. It was just heaven - a great time to be alive!
This song had a release date of September 12, 1978. It was the groups first million selling single and their first release on the Warner Bros. Records label. It held the record of 6 weeks at number 1 on the Billboard Soul chart in 1978. This song helped propel Warner Bros. Records to the number one Soul music label for the next 6 years in a row.

I am so sorry but can you let me know what has happened to them ?
Man, this was one of the funk anthems back in the day ! ! ! Couldn't go to a party without hearing it! ! !
