    So before this video I thought learning Articulation Sets was gonna be hard. And after the video - now it seems so straightforward! You explain things so well. Thanks so much Robert!

      Hey Steve! I really appreciate that! I’ve been such a huge fan of articulation sets lately. Once you understand them, they’re super easy to work with 😄

    Very helpful video, thanks. But in the Hollywood Opus manual it says
    "Hollywood Orchestra Opus Edition
    Articulation Sets for Hollywood Orchestra Opus Edition are automatically installed by running the update at the link below:
    EastWest Product Installer 7.2.5
    After installation, each of the 7 libraries contained in the Hollywood Orchestra Opus Edition will appear in the Articulation Sets menu in the Track Inspector.
    PLEASE NOTE: These Articulation Sets installed by default contain all available articulations, not just those that are active by default in the instrument. To use these inactive articulations, follow these instructions: ..."
    I followed the steps, you have to activate key switches and so on and in the end choose th appropriate articulation set from the dropdown menu in Logic's articulations sets menu ... but there't any articulation sets from EW ... what's wrong?

    WOW! This is amazing @Robert!!! Any chance one can do that articulations switch system in Pro Tools?

      Really appreciate it! 🙌 I’m not too familiar with Pro Tools but I would assume there’s likely some way to route articulations based on data! I’ll have to look into this some more!

    EW fixed it in Opus 1.5. THANKS! Now, when they give us pre-made articulation maps, they can be exported to Logic AND triggers, like keyswitches, can be edited in Logic's Articulation Editor's leftmost tab.
    But with a large set, is there a way to shift a whole Opus set, that generally starts on C 0, down to start on C -2 (so you're never triggering articulations by playing low on your keyboard)? without tediously hand editing each articulation's keyswitch in Opus?

    Very useful, thank you.
    Question for anyone who might know:
    How do I save the OPUS instrument so that the articulation is the same again the next time I open it? This does not seem to be working for me when I click "Save Instrument"

    Unfortunately the Articulation Sets that Opus exports are incomplete. They allow POST-editing of articulations in the editors for notes that are already recorded. And they properly hide the nuisance low note keyswitches in the editors, like the piano roll and the score. But if we want to record articulation change triggers (e.g. Keyswitches) along with performance MIDI data, the way a player naturally plays, say, a Marcato, Staccato, Slur or Pizz while performing the part, it can't be done. The leftmost SWITCHES tab in the GUI is initially empty, well OK, we'll assign them. BUT the little [+] button to add keyswitches (or other triggers) in the SWITCHES tab, which enables switching Articulations in LIVE performance, or recording, is unresponsive. East West confirmed this last week, so it's not just my system. Does it work for anyone here? EW suggest that *Apple* doesn't support it !? But look at Logic's own Studio Strings!

      There's a bug here. Exported Articulation .plist files are missing the whole SWITCHES section. EW tells me they are working to fix it for the next release of OPUS.
      This not only leaves us with no triggers to switch Articulations while playing or recording a MIDI instrument. It also breaks the way the Articulation Set Editor normally works in Logic, as the plus and minus buttons are frozen, and no SWITCH lines can be added to match Articulations in the ARTICULATIONS and OUTPUT tabs. For people who POST assign Articulations to already recorded notes, it may not seem critical. For those of us who want to change an instrument's voicing or timbre in real-time, for recording or live performance the way a player does it, it's a dead end.
      Adding even an empty Switches placeholder like this
      Switches

      corrects the problem, but OPUS tends to reject an edited .plist file, and we need to get around that, while waiting for EW to fix it.
      An alternative is to buy BabylonWaves' Art Conductor, their big collection of Articulation Sets, that covers 350 libraries, mostly well, ready to use in Logic or Cubase. They charge for every version update, so if we're focused on Opus in Logic, there's money to be saved by doing it ourselves

    I really appreciate your work brother! I have a little question. I also work with articulation sets. My question is about loading instances of Opus. Do you prefer loading one instance of OPUS as a multi-output or you prefer to load each instrument in a different OPUS instance? My orchestral template now all the sections in a instance of OPUS with multi-outputs with KS instruments. I'd like to hear your experience about it. Thank you so much.

    • @RobertRodriguezMusic
      @RobertRodriguezMusic  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Wesley, thank you!
      I typically will load similar instruments or multiples together within one multi-output OPUS instance. So let’s say flutes…I’ll use the KS patches of piccolo, flute, alto flute, bass flute etc. all in one instance. Maybe in another instance you can do 4 solo French horns for 4 part horn writing. Or maybe you load the celli KS patch and then 2 divisi KS patches all in one.
      There’s no right or wrong answer depending on your computer specs BUT I highly recommend purging/offloading the samples RAM and then saving over each patch so that it doesn’t load when you open a new project. Hopefully that helps a bit! 😄

    I have a problem with my Violins, the legato sections sound way too quite and the staccato sections sound too loud - is their a way to adjust the gain on specific articulations so i dont have to change the velocity which ruins to character of the sounds or add bunch of compression that just sounds awful?
    Edit: Actually I found what i wanted. Its a bit silly of me that i didnt find it already! On the main player page, select the articulations tab and the gain knobs fopr all the different articulation will be their!

    • @RobertRodriguezMusic
      @RobertRodriguezMusic  22 дні тому +1

      Hey! In general, short samples sound louder or aggressive compared to longer samples. If it’s all on a single track, you could lower the expression CC during the moments of short notes. Alternatively, you could have one track for just the longs and one track for just the shorts! Unfortunately individual control is my main downside to everything on a single track!

    There is a way to automatically export key maps for Logic directly from opus

      @@tomasfrom You guys just saved my sanity. BTW, it's page 37 as of this date... but searching for "export" will get you there fairly quickly. Dang... I was about to pull out what little hair I have left, trying to figure out how to get articulations to work in Score mode with Opus.

  • @PreacherAtArrakeen

    And doing this for every keyswitch instrument in opus orchestra would take how long?

    • @RobertRodriguezMusic
      @RobertRodriguezMusic  2 місяці тому +1

      Good question! That would probably take forever! I recommend only doing this for the instruments you often go to and the articulations that are most common for you. Once you do that- and save the patch itself, you'll save a ton of time in the long run.

    • @PreacherAtArrakeen

      @@RobertRodriguezMusic I tried to do a multi-out in Logic, too, in hopes that the midi would go into them. Sadly, no. Very half-assed implementation, imo. Anyway, enjoying your vids on OPUS. Cheers.
