    A clear, basic explanation is highly appreciated. All these libraries make the assumption you know everything necessary to use them. You just saved my investment, thanks!

    Thank you thank you thank you! This was an excellent tutorial for creating articulations to use in Logic with third party instruments. I was getting VERY tired of having to re-open an Opus panel every time I needed to use different articulations.

    Dear God - I was creating separate tracks for articulations just like you mentioned early in the video. This changes EVERYTHING! You're my hero!

    Oh Josh, this was SOOOO good. I am going through all you "Ultimate Guide to Logic Pro" and didn't see Articulations and Keyswitches any place, and I was devastated as I just got some new orchestral sets and had no idea if I could keyswitch within a track. Then, lo and behold, I searched for a tutorial on UA-cam and here this was!! You totally explained it and beautifully as usual. thank you SO much!

    Thanks for this video. This is going to save me so much time programming articulations for horns. My workaround previously was to add an 'articulation note' in the piano roll just before the note that I wanted the articulation applied. This was a laborious task so thanks again.

    I appreciate this video very much! Just what I needed. Hey, I noticed something this evening while watching this, has anyone ever told you that you sound just like Charles W. "Chuck" Bryant from the Stuff You Should Know podcast? To my ear, your voices and mannerisms are a very close match. I can’t unhear it now. Lol. Thought you might find that interesting. Thanks again, great content!

    I’ve been using articulations for about 2 years - usually making my mods in the piano role. No problem in Logic instruments, and NI Komplete instruments each already have key switches assigned (usually C0 thru B0) but I’ve never had to create a custom articulation set, yet. I knew you could create an articulation set, but I had the crazy idea that you could have new user-defined articulations…. No idea how. For example: say I wanted a generic build in volume articulation. With Logic midi effects, or automation, I could quickly increase velocity values from 25 - 100. But wouldn’t it be cool to save that as a user defined articulation in your own set?

      Allows you to mix and match different playing styles and techniques with software instruments. Check out the final result with the horns at the end around 15:15.

    You could have saved a little bit of time by reading EW HollyWoods Pop Brass's description of what the different key switch notes do in the instrument's window. e.g. A0 CresFst. The names tell you.

    Hey man, the names for the articulations of the EW Hollywood Pop Brass is right there: see that list in the middle of the instrument (C0 Sus, C#0 SusAcc, etc)? That's the one. It was kinda fun watching you try to figure them out, though. ;)

    When creating articulation sets, is turning on or off the MIDI icon a necessity? And also, when changing articulations in the piano roll, are you
    using the mouse pointer, or the pointer in Logic? Thanks

    Hey there! When you opened the east west plugin your key switches already had a "playing style, s " (designated to those bottom notes) my question is , how did you get those ones chosen first and set to a playing style ? thanks !

  • @rufusvonpieru1588
    @rufusvonpieru1588 4 роки тому

    Does this work with multiple keyswitches simultaneously? For example with a guitar instrument where you would have one keyswitch choosing the articulation, and another at the same time forcing the same note to a specific string.

    If you are using the same 3rd party software program for each instrument in articulation sets, do you have to rename the sets for each instrument?

  • @dynamicalan

    Do you know if it's possible to connect this map to the expression markings in the score so when you add the articulation on the score it automatically plays that articulation? I'm taking about the symbols in the score editor you add to the score.

    • @zargflonk
      @zargflonk 5 місяців тому

      Select the appropriate term in the symbol column (Articulation tab). The symbol will then appear on the score when the key switch is triggered. I don't know if adding the symbol on the score will trigger a key switch - haven't tried that.

    Hello! How about plug-ins that change the articulation from a button in the GUI, not a midi key, like the free version of Spitfire's BBC Symphony Orchestra? Thanks!

    • @AaronTapavicza
      @AaronTapavicza 4 роки тому +1

      It’s sorta hidden but BBCSO does use keyswitches. You assign them yourself using the tiny greyed-out-looking 5-note keyboard icon to the above right of the articulations. Drag to assign in the keyboard layout in the player.

    Can you create articulation sets from a 3rd party plugin without any midi notation in a track?

  • @michaelrasbury

    I want to create an articulation set for VSL Dimension Strings but it doesn't offer enough multiple outputs! 1st Violins - All Player requires at least four outputs: All Players:Senza Sordino:Short Notes:Staccato for example. How do I mange creating an articulation set in Logic for a patch with four layers like this?

  • @DavidMaurand
    @DavidMaurand 7 місяців тому

    I was scanning your video for some on-screen marker or label so I could tell which articulation was active. Maybe I missed something?

    • @zargflonk
      @zargflonk 5 місяців тому

      You can get symbols on a score (indicating key switch changes) by updating the symbol column on the Articulations tab.
      I don't recall an indication in the midi editor (not in front of it right now).

    What if my instrument doesn't have keyswitches??? It just has the articulations that you can change manually through the instrument UI.

    I was looking for a way to make a shortcut to change articulations before and after inputted them and I found it.
    It might be obvious but I post it anyway.
    With step input entry, articulation set, I enter the midi notes with my computer keyboard with A~J, the rhythm with 1~0, and change articulations with a midi keyboard (piano) with C0~F1 with Midi Remote button switch On.
