When Hollywood had unimaginable money, made questionable decisions on making movies like making sequels to things no one wanted. Hancock is one of those movies I was shocked didn't get a sequel. I really enjoyed it

See? This was when some people actually care and made something original. Not a sequel, not a remake. It even has a cool lore. So much potential.
I know that's going to be true whenever Charlize is in a film. She doesn't do duds. The Astronaut's Wife with her and Johnny Depp was amazing. Devil's Advocate is another good one.

I don't know if he heard him say why but Hancock is his name because he chose it from hearing a nurse say, "give your John Hancock". John Hancock or just Hancock is American slang for a signature. Named after the Founding Father.

And if you think about it when Mary(THE SUPERLADY) was talking about the rest of their kind pairing up and dying .that suggests that there were OBVIOUSLY MORE OF THEM ,which leads me to believe they were a whole PANTHEON OF GODS (MARY referenced them as gods in the trailer) .
This again leads to my final hypothesis ,and that is that Hancock and Mary were part of a PANTHEON OF GODS and considering Mary could control the weather. If theyre the sane then Hancock might be able to do that as well

Rewatching this movie and the way it handles super powers (and its filming) just reminds me of Chronicle. A must-watch if you want to see a heart-felt story about the effects of super powers
Yeah Chronicle was an amazing movie. There was a planned sequel almost happened. I'm sad that it didn't.

@@TanWam I read the script for it and I think you're right. The idea was the cave they got their powers from had some ancient living crystals inside it. Those crystals gave them the power so then they could take over their bodies and take over the world. And the crystals weren't from space. They've supposedly been there in the ground since the Earth formed.
It does sound kinda stupid.

This movie is most definitely one of my favorites. Its so great and so damn timeless. Such a classic
Chronicle 2012 is another underrated superhero movie, I'd recommend it.
Could you imagine seeing the person you love die in front of you but the best thing for them is to leave them which is crazy.

damn I still love this movie. You really cant go wrong with a hilarious, rude, superpowerful, mysterious superhero. I de remember finding the ending a bit rushed. Like you said it really could have used a sequel. But still a very solid movie that I rewatch probably at least once a year

This movie is incredible underrated. It’s one of my favorite movies I’ve been watching it since i was a kid. Every time it was on tv i watched it. Its crazy that so many people haven’t even heard of it. Its original, action packed, and funny.

Hancock is hidden gem movie. I had almost forgotten about it, even though I've seen it multiple times.
The prisoners thought that since he ended up in prison, he must've lost his powers or the law system found out a way to surpress them

I watched Hancock before watching The Middle, so I had no idea it was the same kid... blew my mind when I realized... xD
Great commentary. I watched this movie when it first came out in the cinema and have loved ever it since. Great soundtrack (I've listened to it countless times), a unique take in the whole superhero genre, has its funny moments and ends on a more serious note which I actually enjoyed. Unfortunately not many people liked the whole shift in tone. Just about everyone I know disliked the entire hospital scene even though it was well filmed.
From what I recall the movie went through rewrites or had the incomplete script handed over to somebody which may explain the way it feels almost like an entirely different movie halfway through. It really deserved a sequel and I was always hoping that day would come but I've lost all hope on that. Then again, I hear Rush Hour 4 is in the works so never say never.
One of the most underrated superhero movies ever. I love this film 😂 Some people hated the directional shift of the latter half/didn't get it, but I really loved the lore and wished we got more of it honestly.

At the time they seemingly didn't know how to market this movie, mistakes were made and it bombed at the box office so it never got a sequel.

A perfect example of underrated movie. Interesting plot, decent acting - this movie is much better than a lot of blockbusters that currently exist.
Hancock is the definition of an underrated movie. When it came out you almost fell bad for liking it, it was like saying you liked Batman and Robin.

Other than having too many plot ideas, the inconsistent power/no power/memory rules and lack of antagonist, this film had such an interesting premise and looked pretty great too. I hope someone gives it another go with a better script someday.

I think this was one of those movies that was two or three smooshed into one. Like Elysium.
this was a great movie but i do think the romance angle could really have been cut for a sequel and focused more heavily on the redemption arc. As it stands you sort of dont get enough time with either angle to really get into it.
Speak for yourself. There is barely a villain just so they could focus on those 2 things.

The original screenplay by Vy Vincent Ngo is online. It's much darker and less blockbuster-friendly.
So the original script sort of wandered around for a few years in "development hell." Executives liked the concept of the broken superhero, but figuring out how to make it workable as a commercial movie eluded them for some time.
Vince Gilligan did a major rewrite and turned the story into something that could work as a theater release.

This is one of my favorite superhero movies. A unique story with heart. I mean come on, hasn’t everyone wanted to be accepted by others? To be a hero? And to have a love so deep for someone that the only way to save their life is to stay away is a superhero. Others have written similar premises before but not like this.
I hope for a sequel. I hope it’s not too late for one. ✌️😉

This movie had a lot of potential but the second half really ruined it for me. It felt like the writers got bored of their own premise and decided to use a storyline from some scrapped romantic drama. If they just stuck with the "terrible superhero trying to find his place in the world" premise from the first half, this would've easily been in my favorite superhero movies of all time.
It's wild that they really said the white woman is the black man's kryptonite.
Fun fact when hancock and mary were fighting hancock was actually producing the tornado and mary was producing the lightning they both have weather manipulation it just when they fight against each other they produce insane OP powers because of the contradiction of their powers or I guess feelings

I love this movie. Not a huge fan of Charlize, but I can look past it cause I love the premise and the rest of the cast. While I probably would’ve been happy to see a 2nd one, the fact that there is only one I think makes it more enjoyable.

i absolutely love this film. its a guilty pleasure and is the only movie i have seen like 20 minutes
