I still can't get over Blizzard charges a sub for the privilege of playing WoW - then, charge us for DLC. And it takes like 6-8 hours to level to 80. Wild.
$15 a month. Thats like 2 bread loaves in this economy. And $50 every 2 years isnt bad either. I used to be a console player. $120 a year for Xbox gold and $60 for a new game that lasts 40 hours at most. Cant complain
@@NoBrainah Yea, I was about to say the fact that the price didn't change with inflation means that blizzard has actually lowered the cost of playing the game over time, unlike Jagex with OSRS who has increased their cost.
@@justanobody0I want it to take longer. My brother has a job and a girlfriend, asked him yesterday. 2 days after early access launch he had an 80 and was like halfway through working on his first alt. He's expecting to have 3 80s by Tuesday (5 days after early access?).
A new expansion is among us, it's time to level up as fast a possible, gear gear as fast as possible, have nothing to do in 2 weeks, wonder why the game is so boring, wait for next expansion and do it again.
I’ve reached that point too. I used to get in a rush and feel the pressure of FOMO. Now I don’t care. I play when I feel like it, if I’m not feeling it I turn it off. I just kind of cruise around at my own pace and do what I want.
It's insane how anticlimactic the combat has become, damage is just random numbers, some hit for 2k some for 220k. Mobs deal negligible damage that's immediately recovered.
yeah WoW is really a pretty bad game and just isn't fun gameplay wise. its just grinding, everything in the game is grinding. wow is a very boring, bad game. this wasn't the case when it came out, it was obviously great but the thing that made WoW so great was really just two things. a big massive open world to play in, and thousands of players that you can see all around you anywhere you went. but after 20 years of just clicking an enemy, pushing some buttons until the enemy dies, then moving on, its really not great. they haven't changed or innovated at all in 20 years. the game is exactly the same as it was 20 years ago. they struggle with basic animations. they rarely add any new animations. still no mounted combat despite everyone having dragons. they've made players so powerful that the only way to challenge us is to kill us in one hit. but the main problem is the core gameplay is combat. you stand in front of a mob, and you click buttons, which trigger animations, and you just sit there waiting for the mob to die. and then you repeat this, 10 billion times, then you go play a new game. WoW is not engaging like other games. i would argue that WoW's combat is more similar to a strategy game, because you and your enemy both just stand in front of each other pushing buttons essentially taking turns damaging each other and timing your cooldowns for maximum effect. combat in WoW seems designed to be a turn based strategy game. Its definitely not an action game, but that's exactly what its trying to be. they need to end WoW and start with WoW 2. but they wont. it will never, ever happen. people will be 80 years old playing WoW 50.0, doing the super deathlich kingdragon raid on mythic +9million, and it'll be the same exact gameplay with no deviations whatsoever. WoW doesn't change. doesn't innovate. never improves in any capacity. It is the exact same game it was 20 years ago, and that's why its bad. In the same way that if you go back and play an arcade game or sega genesis game, its bad when compared to modern games, at least as far as gameplay goes.
Pretty sure when people start raiding and mythic, nothing will be negligible. We don't really need every pull to be a Souls-like encounter for the 6 hours you spend leveling.
Mobs do not deal negligible damage at level 80. I really do not like defending WoW but comments like this just reek of bias and monkey brain. Like trash on the things that are actually there, not BS that makes no sense in actual play testing.
That's because people are using raid ilvl gear. Its probably easy to judge from an outside perspective but it really isn't that way when you reach 80 or if you're someone lvling a new character that doesn't have time to get gear from echoes or anything like that. Trust me when I say this isn't even close to how bad it was in WoD with heirlooms. You'd one shot like almost anything while lvling
buddy, I'm playing as dps rn, mobs don't deal just negligible dmg. They can kill you pretty easily if you don't pay attention.. Especially delves... please stop commenting on something you know nothing about.....
Is it me or have the ground textures, sometimes world textures in general, just gotten more bland and worse recently? In vanilla the ground textures attempted to show individual grains of dirt and sand. Now they just look so monochromatic they might as well be untextured in some places.
Honestly since there no bump mapping or way to emulate depth, it’s probably better for it to be blurry, shaded masses. The cobblestone paths of stormwind is an example
And you are posting about it online. Its like listening to a chick going on about she's totally over her boyfriend. You will be over wow when you stop boring everyone about it.

The masculinity died in wow with Varian, Garrosh and Saurfang. Look at what's replaced them. They could have written Anduin in a way where he steps up to the plate on the alliance side. The horde had a great strong female character in Sylvanas but even she got written out in the worst way. We could have had everyone happy if the writers were even half competent. I don't doubt that having Metzen back is a huge boon for the writing and narrative team. But even in his interview he basically said when he came on board it was too late to put his ideas into this expansion. Maybe by the second or third of this trilogy things will pick up again. Until then I'm happy playing classic/hardcore/seasonal/cata.

I’m a relatively new player, joined in legion but only played solo very casually for a few months at a time until recently. I really enjoy the game and don’t understand the amount of hate it receives but I believe it’s bc I don’t have any nostalgia for it
Because if you're playing casually and not really getting into it, there's nothing wrong. The game on the surface level is decent enough. The thing is that the surface level used to just be the beginning. It used to have real depth. That depth is now missing. But for a casual experience? Sure. It's passable. I still would have major major complaints about the storyline and plot they're going with though. So really, even on the surface level I'd have a good amount of complaints. But it's really the lack of depth now, the lack of soul. The game really has been changed to be more accessible to casual players, and that's trivialized many of the game systems. I personally feel that they could have made the game more accessible for casual play without sacrificing the depth they once had, but they realized that most of their money comes from microtransactions, and they realized that they people who want depth aren't the same group of players that buy microtransactions. So they stopped caring about us, and started catering their game towards those that buy digital horses. For me personally Legion was the last half decent expansion. I prefer TBC myself.
@@DefianceOrDeathwhat depth???? You can still do heroic and mythic raiding. It’s still hard as hell. Mythic dungeons is fantastic for pushing your build to its limits. Like what fucking depth. Its just that 90% of the people here complaining don't actually play the game. They might have played it 10 years ago, and have nostalgic feeling for it, but thats it. Asmon thinks this comment section is a representative portion of the WoW playerbase but it just isn't. Otherwise WoWs numbers wouldn't be as good as they are. Generally, same rules apply anywhere and on any game. The content players are busy playing the game. The upset ones are busy writing essays on Reddit, of which part of them actually play or *want* to play the game, and another part is there simply to be toxic. There is always a middle ground, ofcourse, but *thats* a representative summary of a games' playerbase.

Nah but this is generally bullshit. Half the time DEI is just used as a dogwhistle for 'women bad', 'black character bad'. I've seen multiple cases where characters have actually been well written and shit (not in WoW here), but they're black and people immediately call DEI. Asmon has called it out multiple times before, people just say that everything that isn't a man doing manly things is DEI, which is actually just straight veiled sexism.

My favourite part about this is how he double backs on his harsh criticisms of the game when he’s playing it and all of a sudden adopts this nonchalant attitude about the game and people who are upset with it. At this point just because of how pathetic his personal circumstances are, it’s genuinely hard to distinguish whether it’s a bit, or if he genuinely has this weird cognitive dissonance between what he says now vs a couple months ago.

Anduin has been a bit of a shit character, especially since he's supposed to be a ruler, his father was the warrior that went adventuring, Anduin should be more diplomatic. But it's cope to say it's a "women" hero, bad writing doesn't have a gender.
True. Anduin's core problem is that he is a leader that doesn't lead much of anything. He just shows up and mopes around while things happen around him. Calmer, more diplomatic approach would be fine if he still had some kind of a vision about how he wants to mold the Alliance, but instead he is either moping or on some personal journey of self discovery, not being a leader. He's less of a leader and more of a trust fund kid backpacking across the world "searching for himself".
just like everything else, women tend to put more emotion into thing's and a lot of the time that tips the scales to their side when it comes to writing good characters without cringe biases shining through. it's telling how much a drop in viewership asmon gets when he streams retail wow, the new expansion in general is doing awful in terms of viewership on twitch. In the past, every new wow expansion would be played by all the big streamers and it would have high viewership on release week, even SL saw that. WW within a day has been losing so many viewers and it was only asmon having 20-25k carrying things at the start to just barely reach 200k-ish total views. Lmao, people arguing that asmon is a sheep and his community is just negative. You pay for the game, you pay for the expansions, there's a subscription, you can pay for cosmetics, you can pay to level up, basic services are stupidly expensive ($40 for a faction change) and now you pay for early access. You're probably the same people that are anti-billionaire and love DEI. Bobby and the investors love you.
Blizzard gives out free max level characters with events like every other month at this point. If you can't spend 2 hours leveling instead of spending 40 dollars, you're a legit drooler. If you can't acknowledge that the gameplay is still the same snappy responsive combat and the same type of gameplay that people liked, then idk what to say. I still enjoy it. It's far from perfect, but this community will literally never be kind to WoW, even if it was legitimately the best game in the world (I am NOT saying it is, lol) this community would still say it's trash. A lot of the comments in this section are about the writing in WoW, but the criticisms aren't making sense for half of them because these people literally don't even know what happened in the story. That should be evidence enough that this community slants in a certain direction. You should be able to see that in my opinion. Like I said, I'm not here to defend WoW in every aspect. Retail has got a lot of hate over the past few years, so while I can't speak on firsthand experience of previous expansions so far I'm having a lot of fun with this. I did the Dragonflight main story until like level 40ish when it stopped letting me progress until I hit 70, then I used Chromie and did Warlords of Draenor. I don't know how much or how little I actually did of that particular story/area but it was pretty fun even though it felt dated. Thanks for reading my 4-day old WoW veteran player review
Retail gets a lot of hate cause the ones hating on it didn't go past Legion. They played up to Cata, quit, came back for Legion, then stopped. And I'm talking about the Classic puritans who spent their days playing on private servers til Classic became official - and even now they still complain. People with rose colored glasses often hate anything they may actually enjoy, and admitting anything new they enjoy, breaks their one dimension personality. I played Retail since BfA was current, and so far Dragonflight was pretty solid. The story could have been better tweaked, such as side stories shouldn't have been locked behind faction renown. But the raids were great, and M+ was fantastic.
@@RandoCDN87 complete horseshit story right there. People started to see the failures in BFA. Shadowlands sealed it for WoW for many : butchering the story/lore AND having shit gameplay. Dragonflight tried to improve a bit but the core gameplay loop and story were still bad. This is clearly not going to be any different. You can try to belittle people who quit, but they're the smart ones for not eating shit and say thank you milord for the tasty chocolate.
@@RandoCDN87 FALSE. I've played all expansions, everything since BFA has been garbage. Always quit after a couple of months. War Within is the first one I've decided to skip. Watching Asmon show us the gameplay has validated my decision. It's still trash.
@@fatredditmod The start of SL was actually a lot of fun but it died down quickly. DF, on the other hand, was nearly as good as legion pretty much the entire way. I suspect they will continue that model through the WSS. The complaints about BFA / SL are out dated and meaningless now. You can dislike wow but it's objectively still the best gameplay on the MMO market by a mile (with only FF coming close)
Ill be playing but I have literally zero expectations of it. Hell, only reason I’m coming back because 3 of my buds are giving it a shot. If I enjoy myself for 2 months or so, good enough I guess. But the days of retaining my sub over the entire course of the expansion are long gone.
As of recently, Asmon has takes on a few topics that are predictable because they're purely based on his bias/hostility toward them, and this video clearly displays that very clearly with the Anduin scene at 20:00 LMAO
It is a completely harmless world. The dude pulled half a zone of mobs and took no damage. Absolute joke. Perfect for the mindless zombies of todays age.
Is the leveling content supposed to be extreme or hard? That’s never how I remember leveling in any recent retail expansion you want hard go run m+ keys or mythic raids.
@badspector9218 Isn't Mythic + just fractals from GW2 or greater rifts from D3? It's like raid "difficulties" that are an excuse for the team to not release 3 raids at launch like they used to. They had the capabilities to do this back in 2006 AND 2008. Ulduar hard modes = best reception for a raid. TOC = worst reception for a raid. They continued it to ICC and pve went downhill...
@@TheOriginalCameron mythic+ is vastly more popular than raiding. Why would they release more raids if barely anyone actually plays the raids? And it's always been like that, except that in the past, there was no endgame content besides the raids.
Sylvanas did have some kind of plotline going on, she was meant to feature much more prominently in Legion and didn't, they cut it and then they BfA'd her.
I actually like what they are trying to do with Anduin. He says himself he ENJOYED KILLING PEOPLE when he was possessed by the Jailer. He has to reconcile the reality of what lies in his heart to reconnect to the power he had basically been born with and took for granted his whole life up to the point he met the Jailer. We don't want to relate to that character because it probably hits too close to home for the people calling him a soyboy. A good amount of us grew up WITH Anduin and don't want to admit how much his story probably resembled our own lives as we grew...
To me it felt like he's putting the light on a pedestal that it doesn't deserve. The bar for being worthy to wield the light isn't as high as he seems to think it is. Even he has to agree that he's better than the Scarlet Crusade.

This is the mindset people should have.
Do you miss the fomo or do you think it’s better now?

The horde had a great strong female character in Sylvanas but even she got written out in the worst way. We could have had everyone happy if the writers were even half competent.
I don't doubt that having Metzen back is a huge boon for the writing and narrative team. I’m a relatively new player, joined in legion but only played solo very casually for a few months at a time until recently. I really enjoy the game and don’t understand the amount of hate it receives but I believe it’s bc I don’t have any nostalgia for it
They just like complaining. That’s all
Because if you're playing casually and not really getting into it, there's nothing wrong.
True. Anduin's core problem is that he is a leader that doesn't lead much of anything. He just shows up and mopes around while things happen around him. Calmer, more diplomatic approach would be fine if he still had some kind of a vision about how he wants to mold the Alliance, but instead he is either moping or on some personal journey of self discovery, not being a leader. it's telling how much a drop in viewership asmon gets when he streams retail wow, the new expansion in general is doing awful in terms of viewership on twitch. In the past, every new wow expansion would be played by all the big streamers and it would have high viewership on release week, even SL saw that. WW within a day has been losing so many viewers and it was only asmon having 20-25k carrying things at the start to just barely reach 200k-ish total views. The rest is all the same wow addicts playing retail, classic wow streamers trying it out and 1/2 other 10k+ channels, that's it.
so retail wow can't even do well on twitch anymore. I expect we don't hear a peep from Blizzard about actual sales figures, just like DF cause it's probably going to sell even worse, might even see it on sale/deals real soon to try and get ppl to buy it like we saw with DF.

Brining corporate structures and feminine ideology’s into the game killed it off. We have enough of that crap IRL. DEI is fine when it’s not shoved down our throats. We come to the game to get away from life not have it thrown in our faces. 💯
Exactly! Gamers just want escapism and Immersion like the good ole days. Some politics are okay because fiction is inspired by real-life politics and events but not DEI. It's so nonsensical and tone-deaf, It didn't help the game at all which is why I play Classic.

I can't even really explain why I don't like modern WoW... it's just a washed down calculator with annoying puzzles for 1 grey item and some points that also correlate to an item, that's a token for an item , which can be purchased from a vendor for a token you need a token from a token to buy a token to get a token to buy a cosmetic. It overcomplicates the smallest things, which shit random numbers and overly dramatic autoattack animations.
Vanilla at level 10 : roll a dice between 30 and 120
Retail: roll a dice from 1-220000... it's weird and I don't like it.
This. They ruined professions in Dragonflight with overcomplication. It doesn't make things more exciting to have 5 variations of the exact same item. Professions are supposed to be simple. Do this - Keep making the legacy expansions til you hit WoD, then for the WoD opening cinematic have Garrosh NOT travel back in time and reveal that the next expansion in fact is the actual First War i.e. we get to play a WoW version of WC1, 2 and 3 (leading up to classic) - keep the tone and mechanics more old school and squeeze three epic and brand new expansions out of it, parallel with the evolvement of retail
Most companies pick one or two monetisation strategies. Blizzard chose all of them.
If you think Asmons community bash blizzard for no reason, YOU'RE THE SHEEP.
We probably would agree or have many of the same criticisms of WoW. I'm part of this community, too, after all.
@@hobosnake1 I disagree, there will always be critisicms made towards any game. That's the nature of continuous improvement.
3 xpacs assumedly with paid early access and a shorter release cycle ($$$) and next to 0 compelling additions to gameplay? (warbands add no material gameplay value - the major feature is comparable to some major content patches like transmogs in cata)
Blizzard has been very anti-consumer to their own customers and only make changes when they seem to have their arm twisted. WoW has been monetised in every single way a game can be monetised. There's no excuse for the story to be so horrendous and fly in the face of their own community.
Same is happening with Star wars and LOTR, the consumer comes last.
dont worry you will complain 24/7 about why people play WoW and dont play the godly games you like because only those games matter
Your god Asmongold doesnt even like your FF14 either lmao
@@hobosnake1 Meanwhile in reality, this community praises Classic? The community isn't anti-Blizzard. It's just anti-Modern Blizzard, and they can all explain precisely why they're against it. Like for instance the comment you're replying to listed off seven varieties of monetization strategy. You responded to one of seven varieties, downplaying it by saying that they apparently give them out regularly, and that leveling is fast anyways. But that's one of the complaints that people have as well. That the leveling process is a complete joke now. It's bad that they also try to monetize it though so that many new players skip it altogether, but just the fact that it's accomplished so quickly is an issue.
Your entire comment responded to less than 15% of his comment by the way. Everything else you said is criticizing *other* comments that aren't his? Why not FINISH criticizing his comment, and ADDRESSING what HE said instead of talking about other comments? That's pretty weird dude. Especially since the scenario you created isn't something I've personally seen. People criticizing the story, but the criticisms not making sense? All of the criticisms of the story that I've seen make COMPLETE sense. But instead of responding to this guy who you chose to ignore, you start bringing up hypothetical comments instead? And we can't prove you wrong on that because who knows what those hypothetical comments actually said lmfao?! Dude. ARE YOU SERIOUS?!
As buddy said, "YOU'RE THE SHEEP". Period. End of story. If you weren't a sheep, you would have responded to his various LEGITIMATE points and you wouldn't have brought up a HYPOTHETICAL comment that none of us here are aware of. If you want to argue with people online that's great, just argue with the actual person writing the comment. Don't bring up other peoples comments to randoms and expect them to have a conversation with you about what someone else said.
And of course it's someone as daft as you that's still enjoying the game. OF COURSE.

From what I’ve seen. They’re killing off all the male characters for the token character they’ve created.
One guy died. The rest are fine. Also Xal’atath is not new, she’s been in the game since Legion.
No idea why they have Xal'atath girlboss over Khadgar at the start. She's the only well-received new character, and then they have her immediately do something that is both unpopular and pointless. There had to be several other ways for Xal'atath to fight that would have been more in-character.
@@chumpdiggity6727 That's pretty in-character for her tbh.

I'm playing retail wow for the first time and I'm really enjoying the story so far and just exploring the map a bit. I still think I prefer the old school RPG feel of classic but it is fun to have a modernized feel to the "same" game and also all the tools you have in your kit with the talent tree and everything.
