It's gonna happen as you age. I'm 67 with a ranch and a lake home. Things have to get done. I keep muscle relaxers, pain pills, and a heating pad on site. The faster you can get those items working for you, the faster the recovery.

Andrew, I just turned 75 in May. I have had cancer twice, spinal surgery(from a work injury) and a knee replacement. I have survived and am doing great. You adapt and go on. At least you are on this side of the grass and not pushing up daisies. So happy to see you up and about. Take care of yourself. Your fans aren't going anywhere.

Back in my younger days. We called it "Slowing your roll" I have back issues and can totaly relate. I was trying to load a tractor on a truck. Flipped it over on me and fractured a couple vertebre and broke some ribs. So, slow down a bit. Stress is one of the leading contributor of other severe health issues. Stay well and we will keep you in our prayers.

Broke my back during a parachute jump when I was 27; I am now in my 60’s-not one day goes by that I am not reminded about my injury. Two surgeries later and no comfort. And to make things worse, everything is so dependent on your nerves being unaffected by injury.

I heard thru the interwebs grapevine that you had some back issues, so I knew why there was a lack of videos being uploaded. I'm happy to see that you're back upright and uploading... I'm turning 57 in a month, and have injured myself asleep in bed more than I care to admit. We're all pulling for ya, because to be honest; we all probably need to make the same changes; lighter, healthier, and more flexible. Stretch every day. I've fallen/been launched off my 28ft ladder 3 times, at 6'3" 280 pounds. I have extreme back issues when I forget to stretch. One of the best things I do is hang from a bar on my truck. Every morning before doing anything I will grab the bar and pull my legs up to swing, and roll my hips back and forth. Think like a kid on the monkey bars. Maybe consider hanging a bar in the shop or pole barn to hit once a day to give your lower back a stretch. Don't over do the swinging part though, it will start effecting your shoulders.

Glad to hear you are on the mend, Andrew!
I just turned 59, so I am well acquainted with how it really sucks getting old! ;-) Almost a year and a half ago, I decided to stop messing around and lose some weight and get in better shape. I cut out the carbs and started introducing intermittent fasting. I now am fasting about 18 hours and eating during the other 6 hours (usually a light lunch and a regular dinner). I'm down 90 pounds now, and have another 30 to go. I've been increasing physical activity on my new homestead, and I'm feeling stronger than I have in years.
Make changes to your diet and your day-to-day activities slowly. If you try to change too much too quickly, it's easy to get disillusioned. And remember - we don't lose weight to get healthy; we get healthy to lose weight.
    Take care and God Bless.

I've been there. Still struggling with it. When things are bad it can make you question the point of living. The key is to remember the positive people and etc of your life. This may require journalling so you can refer to that on the dark days.
When the crisis passes, there are stretches and exercises that will help recover and prevent. The areas involved include all the muscles and joints including thighs, abs and everything in between.

    WOW 😮❗️
How I feel for you 😢
I’ve had 5 major back surgeries and the last one was because of sciatica which is the pinching of nerves in the back. I went through hell for over 10 days before I went to surgery.
But you know that a moving body keeps moving.
Sciatica is the worst pain that anyone can go through.
I felt suicidal while I was waiting for surgery.
Also I believe in God and I know that He got me through it.
So please Pray every day and ask God for anything you want and need.

I'm 54 and still lift 80 pound concrete bags when doing my recent checkard board patio build, but that would have been impossible 3 weeks ago when i had severe back pains. I tried everything from pain meds, creams (Jason's tea tree oil worked well) and soaking baths... what ended up helping the most was my inversion table. 30 minutes a day. 2 days of that and i felt so much better. I guess the decompression helped tremendously. I'm back to my regular chores. Like you I'm too active to be slowed down with back issues.

After my two back surgeries my advice to help your back is to find someone to do your moving and tractor work for you, they are your biggest threat to your back. The vibration is what 's causing your back problems. The more you set and ride on them the worse your back will get. Even your boat riding is bad for your back. I think you will figure this out eventually. Just my thoughts, good luck.

I've had that same thing happen to me. It happened about once a year for 4 years. The absolute best thing you can do for the ability to get back on your feet faster, is a very good and very large heating pad. Lay on that and drink lots of fluids and your body will heal. For the long term, better diet and weight loss help reduce the amount of episodes. I've now not had one in a year and a half. That pain is hard to describe, but brother, I can feel it in my nightmares.

61 here, not bragging but i have 20 acres and work all day, doing pretty much what you do. You are absolutely correct on eating right and getting fit. Your getting workout every day just need to focus on eating healthy and do things easier. Once you reach my age you start to understand what im talking about, i actually began at 55 realizing that taking care of the body was primary, if you can do it now your miles ahead. Farming is tough as hell, the wife and I do it at 61, im out all day, raising pigs, chickens, cows and huge garden. Trust me i hurt every night, but after second cup of coffee in the morning the swelling and pain in hands seem to dissipate. Your still way young! Staying that way is impossible but if you pace yourself, EAT RIGHT, lose a little weight you’ll be good. Once the back is gone its over, have a brother it happen too…. Take care of it!!! Just a thought. Focus on building low maintenance things (fences, porches). Or taking high maintenance things and making them low maintenance (mowing, pool maintenance, chicken care). Certainly we all would like to do things that give us more free time to do the things want including rest.

Andrew I am glad you are feeling better. Back pain is no joke. Back 30 plus years ago I ruptured a disc in my lower back in a fall accident at work. I never had surgery and after many months of therapy I recovered. Now fast forward to today, about once a year I’ll do something out of the blue that will put me out for several days where I can barely walk.Getting old isn’t for the faint of heart. It’s always good to look around and make changes in your life. Life is too short to be constantly under pressure and stress when you can make small adjustments that will help make a positive impact.

I am 81 years and have had back trouble most of my life. I went to a Dr. and she told me that I needed to walk 2 miles a day. I thought she was trying to kill me. I started walking, not 2 miles at first, but I started a hundred yards are so. That started about 35 years ago. The fact that I started walking made me look at other things in my life, the food I was eating, my sleep habits, and different ways to do things I should be doing at first. GOOD LUCK and hope you feel better soon.

I think you are wise to use this injury and down time as your "spring board" to zoom out a bit on everything you have going on and make some changes as you see fit. "Getting older ain't for sissies", as my grandfather always used to say. It IS very hard mentally to "pace yourself" (hehe) especially when you've got a zillion things you want/need to get done, no question. So just wishing you all the best and looking forward to hearing more about the changes you have decided to make, if you're keen on sharing them. I'm thinking that your new pool might be a good place for some exercising in addition to the relaxing part of having one; just a thought. Take care!

Zucchini blossoms are fragile and delicately flavored, a little sweeter than the flavor of the squash itself. They are most often served sauteed or battered and fried, and are frequently stuffed first, often with some sort of creamy cheese filling. They can also be baked, even steamed, or served raw, often in salads or as a garnish for pastas, risottos, soups or other cooked dishes. Give them a try, there delicious!

Totally relatable mate. Im 42 and years of ego lifting and mma and bike accidents as a younger man has caught up. I had excruciating nerve pain, ended up on some meds - lyrica, thats some nasty stuff. Made some changes and lost some weight, drank too much, now stopped that too. Easier exercise like light bag work and cycling has helped me. Also not pushing myself psychically when i know im fatigued. Like pulling in 70m of anchor rope or lifting heavy things on my own.. 'aye mate can I get a hand please'. Lol

I know that for everyone there is on the internet, there’s a different opinion on the proper diet. But for me personally, I have found that cutting out sugars and grains have been tremendously helpful. I used to go to the chiropractor every other week. Since cutting them (mostly) out, I haven’t been since thanksgiving. And guess what I was eating leading up to thanksgiving, a whole bunch of sugar and grains. I literally threw a rib out of place on thanksgiving morning getting in my truck. That was the last straw. If I start to to get off track, I start to feel it, and I know I need to get back on track immediately or I’ll get way off track. Whatever you find works best for you, I’m glad you’re feeling better, and if I can ever be of help, please let me know.

    Andrew,
One thing you can do easily is more walking. I walk around my neighborhood (about 2.75 miles) every chance I get between bad weather. It takes me about 45 minutes each time. It allows you a chance to think about a lot of things without chores in front of you. I also play my favorite music while I walk. You have such a big property, just walking to the end of the field past your big tree and back would be a good start. Also, try to reduce your sugar intake. I still put a sweetener on things (Lakanto Monkfruit Sweetener with erythrotol), but it is much better for you, and it is not the bad processed sugar. Good luck!

When I first heard about this I didnt think anything of it having been through the same type of thing in past years and now that you told the story of how it took place I thought of the olden-day workhorses that worked Mon-Fri and were crippled on Sun and Monday morning, stoved-up. Muscles used to working had no place to shed the enzymes on the downtime. Use your pool anchor yourself back to the wall holding with your hands and paddled your legs making sure you have your core engaged. This will strengthen your lower back muscles and get your gut back in line - now, wait! LOL ALL of us stop holding our gut in later on in life and develop loose abdominal muscles, just plain facts! Not using those muscles when we are supposed to when working causes stress elsewhere. Also another point is drinking plain water and maintaining proper hydration. Glad you are feeling better Andrew!

I can completely understand! First of the year I was ready to leave my state government job after 20+ years to run my own business and start my own social media videos to document it and I throw out my left shoulder and torn some tendons....It made me super nervous and really had to make some decisions and prepare for things like this to happen in the future once I did leave. Almost six months later I finally pulled the plug and started out on my own! I couldn't let the fear of the unknown and what-ifs hold me back from following my passion. Of course I am more aware and doing what I can to make sure things are in place in case something happen to me where I cannot work for a bit....Hopefully it will never happen but always good to be prepared! Take time to take care of yourself. I know I forget at times that I'm not as young as I used to be and really have started to look for ways to make things easier on myself (especially my back! 20+ years in my prior line of work has not done well for my back, hips and ankles.....)
