- Thank you to my husband Matt for always being a good sport about wearing 18th century clothing with me. :D Music selected by what Matt always hums while he wears 18th century clothing. Maid played by me.
The suit is a 1780's suit embroidered and sewn by me, based on an extant at the V&A.

What a beautiful suit of clothes. Men’s clothing, especially formal wear, is SO boring now.
So true
IKR? Men deserve more options and colorful flamboyant choices when it comes to formal fashion.
Just a century ago, there were so many different types of cuts for suit jackets, different types of ties, collars, cuffs etc. It's just boring now
Wow! I have heard it said that people used to spend the equivalent of a today’s family car on their wardrobes. This is surely the Ferrari of it’s day.
Some could have spent the average of a family house both then and now. Then, because everything was hand made and there is no short cut because it's so expensive more labour = more cost. Some of the noble's threads were literally gold and silver (hence their shimmer and shine). Such material and labour costs as much as a peasant's house.
Today, gold and silver thread still cost the same relatively. UK labour is much more expensive than it was then. The same arguments can be made about time, money, labour and material costs in both eras. To replicate with authentic materials and methods today would still be in the region of £250k for some garments.
I love the sheer amount of decoration on men's clothing at the time, and I would love love LOVE to one day have a coat like that. The whole outfit is gorgeous! So much detail and so much work, just wow.
There is a designer named Ottavio Nuccio and he does great suits on this design but with a little “modern" design. There is a Lot more, there are orned tissues that people use to make vests and sometimes, complete suits. The best tailors can make one like this, but i Said Ottavio Nuccio because o think he is the best. Talking about me, i am 15 years old and sometimes I use the traditional rural clothes of my country (Brasil, Rio grande do su estate), but I use mostly a suit with vest and tie (at least a social shirt with tie), and my dream is to when I grow up, buy a tail coat suit but with a orned vest and tie, and the tail coat with some kind of embroidery orning it, i love this style and I pray the rosary every day so that we can come back with the good things we had in the last, modernism destroyed it all... But it didn't killed the “Beaux arts" and the good maners totally. I Also use some kind of hat or beret because it makes the look complete and more beautiful. It isn't hard for me because to dress like that because besides I wear what I think is the most beautiful and this habit made me a lot of friends who think like me.
this is 1) informative, 2)gorgeous, 3)wholesome
This is so lovely! Menswear never seems to get enough love. I loved the locket at the end and I will ALWAYS be happy to see close ups of your embroidery :D
Yes your husband is a good sport. He's a keeper.
The inclusion of a locket pocket (what a mouthful) had me giggling. Such a handsome outfit!
Aww his face when it's all done is adorable. When I dress my spouse he has the same face of like 'is this good?' 🤣
This is absolutely stunning... There is hardly any content out there for men's historical fashion. But with this you feed us with the most delightful and well crafted pieces. Your skill and your results make one hungry for more. A big thanks to Matt as well for posing and supporting your wonderful wife in every way...
Thank you so much!
I feel exactly the same!
stunning, I know th coat was the main focus of the video, but that waistcoat, wow, love it.
It's sooo pretty 😱 plus it's the first time I've really noticed how the heavily, gorgeously embroidered silk moves when worn... I felt as if history was standing on my doorstep, thanks so much for that 😍
You two are adorable! And my mind is boggled thinking of all the hours that went into Matt's outfit! You are amazing, Christine!
The coat and waistcoat are truly outstandingly amazingly stunning!!!!! I dont think I have ever seen anything so beautiful!
Beautiful video - costume, music, editing, everything! Only two videos in and you are killing it at this youtube thing! Congrats!
Thank you so much Alicia!!
@@Sewstine ive always had this question but i work with (french) 18th century mens wear but i cant find any extant examples of mens corsets do you know of any??
That outfit is amazing. Continuously in awe of your talent and ability!
How Wonderfully Charming!! Such a handsome ensemble... Real Strikingly beautiful. I love it..
Oh my goodness this is so beautiful! I was about to ask if you embroidered this and then I read in the descriptions that you had. Very extraordinary work.
Just wonderful!! I hope you do more like this!
There is so much embroidery!! I am in awe!
That is just so fabulous. I love that coat. You did an amazing job.
All so stunningly detailed, right down to the wee locket portrait. 😍marvelous!
Absolutely stunning! Your attention to detail is gorgeous.
Wow! Gorgeous coat and the embroidery is impeccable!
Stunning simply stunning. The details and delicate finishing are fantastic. I’m trying to start hand embroidery myself... but seeing your pieces makes me desire the industrial revolution perhaps.
He looks rather dashing!! And your dress is soo pretty 🥰
Omg. The jacket is incredibly beautiful. Your husband is very lucky to be a model of such amazing creations. Incredible work
amazing coat, though what caught my eye was…wow that couch settee….I’m drooling over how awesome it is.
Wonderful, divine embroidery
Such beautiful embroidery.
Details on the coat are breathtaking!
What a beautiful outfit! Wonderful job!
That waistcoat is awesome 😍 And the coat, too 😍
Awwww, we love Mr Sewstine, he is very sweet and helpful. He looks most becoming too if I may be so bold ;)
Stunning work my lady
Holy smokes that embroidery!!! Well done!
ToT This is so gorgeous from start to finish. Everything from the clothes to the setting to the music is so aesthetic it hurts. Ahhfmghfmghg Is that a portrait of you in the back there? If so, that's such a gorgeous art style omg. And that blue jacket. Hfmgghfm I drooled a little a lot staring at the details.
AHH the little buttons covered in embroidery 💞
This embroidery is slaying me!!!!
A very beautiful vest and coat. Thank him for being a good model.
I love the little surprise at the end! :)
“They see me flexin’ they Hatin’ “
This coat is a piece of art!
I LOVE THIS!!
Watching this shows me that I had clothes that we're offshoots of the vest and shirt as a child
Wish I could get my husband into a jacket like that!
wow, he looks fantastic !! Bravo !!
Exceptional work.
I LOVE That waistco and jacket I want one of those so bad
Wow!! Stunning suit......
Beautiful
Os bordados tão lindos!
Holy wow!!!
Beautiful clothing
It's kinda funny the amount of swayback that was apparently part of the fashionable silhouette.
And that the clothes give the illusion without needing to actually bend the spine like that
I do hope in future you’ll show us how you make outfits for men and kids 💖😱💖 your husband looks so distinguished and fancy!
I loved the detail at the end! 💖💖💖
Lol how the heck does such a big, flowly shirt manage to fit inside the trousers? 🤔
Loved this video~! And it makes me want to make something for my son but I don’t know anything about making clothing for males!
Hi Evelyn! I do writeups on how I make these on my blog sewstine.com - and my instagram goes into the process more. :) I am working on a video that shows the making of a coat... but considering a coat takes months to make, I'm afraid the video will be the same. :D Thank you so much for watching!
What a man!!! *swoon*
❤️
Is your couch embroidered?? Because if so I LOVE it! And of course, as always, the clothing is spectacular!
No, but it's a lampas fabric. :D so it LOOKS embroidered. I did reupholster it myself though! Thank you!
Could you tell us how you made the buttons? They're so beautiful and elaborate! I'd love to learn how to make them.
100% my style, the dress of the 1770s and 1780s
I. WANT. IT. OMG 🤩🤩🤩
That jacket/overcoat is BITCHING
I was thinking, maybe you should accept commisions for embroidery fabric like, the person sends you the pre cutted fabric to be embroidered and you send it back and then the person preceeds to finishing the garment and making the adjustments OR you offer the pre cutted fabric already embroidered and the person finishes it by their self.
Because it's not easy to have a good embroidery machine and all this know-how about embroidery that you have.
Hi Vivian! I don't do that for strangers, but I do do that service for friends.^^ one day, if I have time, I would love to do something like that. :D
Oh my gosh!!!!!!!
Gorgeously done!! Can I ask, what camera do you use? I'm in the need for a new one on my channel!
Hi! I use a Nikon 3300, but I'm looking to upgrade. It's actually designed for photography so it's not great for movies sadly.
The garments are superb and the portrait in the background is a nice touch! However, the image is quite shaky when you zoom in on the coat - I think stills would have given us a better look. I also would have loved a voiceover or some informative text with, say, the names of the garments and how they would have been worn or made. Maybe for a future video?
I CAN'T TAKE THE BEAUTY I AM BLIND.
Just dig deeper into your vlog. Wow. Court coat: gorgeous. I hope men don’t pop the stitches. Watching him get dressed: a tall male valet is missing from the day dream. And girl, you need to fill out more on your “About” tab. Who ARE you? You have patient and diligence and time and all that equipment. I was imagining theater garment technician, but you’re a dr.!?? You gotta spell this out a bit more, pls!
This is so cool! Are you going to make one for women?
That embroidery, though.
Lovely cuffs on that shirt. Ive got a fetish for a well gathered cuff!
Can you start selling these 😓😓 OMG. I needs
Where do I get a suit like this
Why is the back of the outer jacket sort of bubbly or puckered? Is that the lacing showing from the layer under it, or something else?
I could watch this all day, the embroidery is just so beautiful- ah they really don’t make clothes like this anymore, I wonder why men’s clothing got so bland? Bring back the embroidery!!
Blame George Bryan "Beau" Brummell.
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
💖👑👑💖xx
Why use an arrangement of the boccherini?
Why can't this be seen as acceptable modern formalware for me? I'd much rather wear this than a typical three piece at events.
Forgot your powdered whig and hat.
I can't bileave how many like minded people I'm finding in the comments
Why can’t we dress like this more often? Haha
I mean men and boys haha
How fargone our society has become nowadays with their ripped jeans and crop tops and whatnot. At least there are people out there who come to respect what true fashion used to be.
I'm design hackers and coats based on this era as the fashion if the time had more passion. I do like wearing a suit but it's something about this era that calls to me as a man of taste with real fashion. Today's fashion is like sheep cattle. The same. No taste and no class. Just simple.
Where has all the beauty gone?🥲
