    One thing I was like to critique on is to keep your formal/non-formal verb forms consistent as to not add an unnecessary level of difficulty for new learners. For example, you said, "笑います is to laugh, and the passive form is 笑われる" which mixes the formal form of the verb the first time it is mentioned and the casual form for the passive voice. I noticed that this was done multiple times in the video and not just once, so I wanted to bring it up. It's better to keep it consistently in one formality level for explaining verb conjugation, since that makes it easier for new learners to get used to the conjugation rules.

      Passive voice is just as good as the active voice if used correctly.
      The man punches Jack.
      Jack is punched by the man.
      The first sentence describes how someone is punching Jack. The second one does the same but puts more emphasis on _who_ is doing the punching, that is, the man instead of somebody else.

    • @DougalBayer
      @DougalBayer 3 роки тому +2

      Passive allows writers to control the order of information, like Japanese は: to begin a sentence with the familiar topic as the subject, and end with the new or surprising information as its point. Often, the last point is the next topic. “A Brief History of Time” is one of the most clearly written science books ever. To make difficult ideas flow smoothly, Hawking wrote about 1/4 of his sentences in the passive.
