REGARDING THE DRAWERS: No they do not stick. I'm using light coats and the paint comes out in a mist. It either goes in between the gaps and gets on the drawers or it goes on the wood. Well, if it was not damaged in a way that is likely to be difficult to repair, [dog chewed], then I'd be loathed to have it painted. But with that sort of damage and the fact that she wanted a change of style, then painting it would have been environmentally friendly and cost effective. A good alternative might be family coats of arms on the door panels, possibly with more discrete heraldic symbols o the drawer centres.

The transformation of the furniture using the black satin paint, is stunning and very classy. I’m sure a lot of people thought it was gonna be just a dark crayon black, but this proves that you can use dark colors and have them be beautiful on furniture without everything being white and light tanned. Thank you for taking us along on this journey, I am relatively new to your channel and I haven’t made comments before. My next statement is meant to be neither right nor wrong but for me I would’ve changed the hardware to a different color and a brush satin nickel or something just a little more modern and its style possibly but it doesn’t look bad with putting a hardware back on that you can. I would be proud to have this furniture in my home.❣️❣️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
You definitely did a great job of renovating it. I am sure many people will appreciate it and because it will fit their decor better. But I personal favor the original finish.
@angelwings7930 Use your own advice. Talking about "this is then problem with your generation" yet you're a boomer spending your last day complaining on a two year old video that you can't control. Sooooo sad
You did an INCREDIB:E JOB!!!! It looked like it belonged in that house. Usually, when there's a Piece like this, I think -"Why can't they just REFINISH it?" But when I saw what you had to repair, I GOT IT!!!!
Great, meticulous work! Although painting that piece wouldn't be my personal choice, it came out beautiful, and I'm sure your client was thrilled! And, I thought using the lacquer as the first coat was brilliant, in case someone someday wants to restore this piece to its original glory. Was also impressed that you are so considerate regarding the noise your equipment makes. You are a good neighbor, my friend! Glad I found your channel! 🙂
It looks beautiful! People will complain about painting wood but it keeps furniture out of landfills and someone will be loving it in their home again. Win win PS It’s nice to see your face and smile 😊
Stunning!!I loved seeing the pieces in place after you were finished. We never get to see that part of the process, so thanks for including it. This was one of my favorite of all your videos
The end result is so beautiful. The paintjob is flawless. You make it look so easy, yet I realise it takes long and hard work to end up master this. I love the colour 💗
Must go slow on each coat. Resist temptation to spray all at once (advice to me 😄). This is an elegant curvaceous behometh! Gorgeous craftsmanship! I ❤️ this painted black! I loved that original finish too but really in this case black is classic and versatile! Now Im wondering what other furniture painting you have? Anything eye catchy red 🔴 ????
Thanks for the tip about lacquer. It looked great and I love that it can still be restored later. I also appreciate that we didn't have to watch an owner reveal and reaction, I personally find those awkward.
Nah. I'm not into recording the owner. I did like being able to show the furniture in my client's home, which I dont get to do often. I liked having it at the end of the video rather than just the piece being in my garage. Gonna have to try to do that more.
Gorgeous finish on these pieces..... what a transformation! I recently refurbished my 25 year old pine bedroom suite with Dixie Belle Moonshine Metallics (Steel Magnolia). It's just like having new furniture. I did change out the hardware as well. Unless your furniture is museum quality, go for painting it!
Very smart man, I see SO Many flippers do it wrong. You are absolutely right when you put down lacquer or a shellac to seal the wood before you paint. It saves so much work when the next time it's stripped.
Beautiful redo. I prefer painted furniture to natural finish. It's actually wonderful to see your clients refreshing furniture as opposed to just buying new.

Hi Ryan, I'm a retired painting/remodeling contractor. I enjoyed watching your project. I really miss my career, but the old body said it was time to hang it up..... I've used this technique numerous times and I've also used Sherwin Williams cabinet coat in my old ugly golden oak bathroom vanity. It came out great and has held up beautifully for 10 years. A few times I painted the hardware in a nickel color or the oiled bronze color. Both also look nice. I'll be following you, to live vicariously..... Haha. Really nice job!
Absolutely stunning !! Those 2 pieces were beautiful to begin with but you really made them look exquisite. I think it was a good decision for her to update what she had versus buying new, totally smart choice👏🏻👏🏻
I say go for it. It's only things. You can't take it with you and if you like it and it's sturdy. Keep it but get it done professionally. Much better than a diy.
Beautiful! I love how thorough you are and you dont skip steps. Not many people painting furniture go through all the steps you do. The finished pieces look super fine and that finish will be durable for many years. It looks brand new. Oh, and thank you to the owner for letting us see them in their home. Stunning.
I like painting hardwood furniture also and have been doing it for years. Family and friends consider me a subject matter expert and I always get questions. At 75 years old, I've been around long enough to have learned something. I love all the principals that are shown here. For those DIY'ers out there that love this look, but don't have the equipment, high quality airless spray, designated spray room, etc., I have used several techniques that can be deployed. Using wet/dry sandpaper with water to wash the paper clean helps in all phases of pre-work and final finish. For those that have to apply the paint with a small, smooth roller and paintbrush, I have found Valspar oil enriched Cabinet paint is a winner for keeping brush marks to a minimum. Again if you have a run or troublesome orange-peel finish, the wet sand paper, about 180 grit, is a great and dustless way to fix it! I think this is a great channel and you certainly know your business... not everyone can avail themselves of your service and I have found these methods work for us folks that don't have a designated workspace and equipment. Thank you for taking the time in sharing your work.
Ryan, that set looks KILLER!! I was on the edge of my seat waiting for the 2nd coat of black lol so satisfying. I missed the live stream but LOVED seeing it in the house set up & so glad they invested in professional movers, too. Well done 👏🏽
I too was a complete wood snob but I have opened my mind to the artistic painting of some older pieces. I love your work. I do wish textiles and handcrafted textiles in particular were regarded highly enough to save within families. Pieces such as needlepoint, knitted pieces, home made articles of clothing, even delicate needlepoint designs on tshirts and sweatshirts. My Mother in law was a master seamstress and knitter. She would put beautiful designs on the every day clothes of her grandchildren. I wish I had saved those clothes. Besides being very high quality and dear, they were Family Heirlooms.
Yes! I saved 3 pieces of my mother's bedroom furniture from the 50s and plan to refinish and update. They are not technically antique but mean something to me. She would have liked that I saved them and not bought new just because I can. She was very practical like that. Also, I have an old dresser from my grandma from the 1920s that I plan to clean up but not refinish. It is old and scuffed but I like it just the way it is.
Yes I have some beautiful handmade furniture that my grandfather made, and some from my dad, I’m really hoping one of my nieces or nephews will want to keep them.
Absolutely beautiful!! Really like that he included the step were he sprayed to protect the original peice ever wanted to restore it back to the original 👍👍
That really turned out beautifully. When I was younger, my bedroom was decorated in the Asian style with black furniture and gold flooring and floor length drapes. Keep up the good work. Thanks for the video.
I came across your channel a couple of years ago. It popped up on my UA-cam. This is the first time in a long time since I last watched. Now it came up again. Your work is GREAT!!! I'm not so accomplished yet.
That buffet unit looks great! When you said the customer wanted a dark finish, I thought the end result wouldn't be so impressive but it was way more impressive than I had expected. That black satin finish looks great especially after applying it with the airless sprayer and it really fits well with the new decor.
This looks so jazzy. I don't get people who are horrified about painting wood furniture. If it's going to the dump and you're able to jazz it up, so much the better. I was hoping to continue flipping furniture when I retired, but as quickly as it became popular, the trend went by just as quickly where I live.
And this is true that classic style will never die because it's to precious and beautiful with heart and soul and of course with the brain , especially with the brain .
Who would want to? Give that piece 10 years and the paint will look as bad as the original finish did. And by that time the '2022 black on everything' mainia has passed! So yeah, people will want to redo even that piece! Eventually!
REGARDING THE DRAWERS: No they do not stick. I'm using light coats and the paint comes out in a mist. It either goes in between the gaps and gets on the drawers or it goes on the wood.
The cabinet in classic style is beautiful after restoration and also the table with chairs , together looks very nice and elegant in
a classic style.
Turned out absolutely beautiful-both pieces!
Beautiful work and result.
Very pretty. I like that updated set. Beautiful job!
Looks fantastic and is no longer dated. Great job.
It’s stunning on the light colored floor! Classic lines with a new, updated look. Love it❤️
This painting is quite athletic. You are everywhere. Looks wonderful. 😊I want one.
It really is!
Absolutely beautiful! You did an incredible job! As the home owner, I would update the hardware on the cabinet to make it a little more current. 😊
I think "silvery" hardware would have been nice with the black.
I was thinking the exact same thing.
I say go for it. It's only things. You can't take it with you and if you like it and it's sturdy. Keep it but get it done professionally. Much better than a diy.
I loved it painted without hardware. Yes, modern silver hardware would look much more appropriate for this version.
@ThatShabbyGuy you knocked it outta the park! That home looks like a model! I was skeptical, but you proved me wrong. You should be proud.
Beautiful! I love how thorough you are and you dont skip steps. Not many people painting furniture go through all the steps you do. The finished pieces look super fine and that finish will be durable for many years. It looks brand new. Oh, and thank you to the owner for letting us see them in their home. Stunning.
Excellent outcome! 👍
Hi Ryan, what an amazing job you did! It’s gorgeous!
I am loving black furniture! So sophisticated
Love this. I would have updated the hardware if I was the client, but it looks beautiful.
I never liked dark furniture but these black pieces are very sophisticate and beautiful. I loved them. Thank you for sharing
I gasped when you showed the first coat of black paint. Looks so much richer and substantial painted black. I absolutely love it! ❤
Wow!! Beautiful. Getting ideas.
The finished product looked lovely!
Absolutely stunning transformation! Great job and I thoroughly enjoyed watching you give these already-gorgeous pieces new life.
I watch a lot of DIY on UA-cam yours is the most thorough. Wonderful job I admire your craftsmanship. Inspiring.
Thank you. I don't watch much DIY so I don't usually know how I compare or what I do differently in my videos. Thanks for the feedback.
Those pieces are so elegant!! Your client made a great choice to update her existing furniture.
That really turned out beautifully. When I was younger, my bedroom was decorated in the Asian style with black furniture and gold flooring and floor length drapes. Keep up the good work. Thanks for the video.
It's absolutely beautiful job! Love the table too!
Absolutely Stunning ! Bravo
It looks great but the wood look is Definitely back in style and gaining popularity more everyday 💗
I was loving the original but your transformation is absolutely stunning!!!
Awesome job! Looks stunning!
I came across your channel a couple of years ago. It popped up on my UA-cam. This is the first time in a long time since I last watched. Now it came up again. Your work is GREAT!!! I'm not so accomplished yet.
Welcome back!
That buffet unit looks great! When you said the customer wanted a dark finish, I thought the end result wouldn't be so impressive but it was way more impressive than I had expected. That black satin finish looks great especially after applying it with the airless sprayer and it really fits well with the new decor.
Very nice. Big improvement. 😊
I'm always very cynical about painting over wood on antique or antique-look furniture, but this is stunning! Definately an upgrade.
I share your cynicism. However, mine continues. It's not that I hate it..but I don't think it's an improvement. Sorry.

The only reason I'm not out completely is because the furniture is not a genuine, hand crafter antique to begin with.
@@wandererg5117 I agree and was sorta thinkin the same. We may be dating our selves slightly though.
It turned out just beautiful, you did a great job as always! Thanks for the video ;-)
Just beautiful!
It looked so beautiful in the customers dinning room.
very "arch"
OH MY WORD..That is beyond gorgeous. Looks very high end. You are very talented. Thank you for sharing your process. Impressive
While I don't like the black color, you did an absolute fabulous job of painting it.
Your work shows how much you care! Wonderful job. Loved the red dresser you done before . Never thought paint could make such a difference. Nice job!
This looks so jazzy. I don't get people who are horrified about painting wood furniture. If it's going to the dump and you're able to jazz it up, so much the better. I was hoping to continue flipping furniture when I retired, but as quickly as it became popular, the trend went by just as quickly where I live.
"It was going to the dump" but now it's in a starter castle.
If you ever try to strip paint off furniture, you'll know.
@@loosilu it isn't that hard lol.
It loses value but if you don't care about that then there's no issue.
And this is true that classic style will never die because it's to
precious and beautiful with heart and soul and of course with the
brain , especially with the brain .
The pieces look awesome. I really appreciate how you considered that someone may want to restore them in the future. But who would want to?
Who would want to?
Give that piece 10 years and the paint will look as bad as the original finish did. And by that time the '2022 black on everything' mainia has passed! So yeah, people will want to redo even that piece! Eventually!
