My biggest regret from college

  • In this video I explain my biggest regret from college, and fair warning, it's more of a ramble/rant than one cohesive thought. Basically, college is a place to learn, test out what being an independent adult is going to be like, and to prepare for your future.
I ended up feeling like I did not give myself any actual room to grow, and that I ended up doing a lot of things on autopilot that I had learned from high school, that looking back were just unnecessary.
Time is such a precious resource, and it's hard to feel that way just out of high school, because childhood is filled with the most insanely boring, time wasting, obligatory events ever. You get used to just being lugged around and forced to do what adults say to do, that it can be hard to learn how to carve out time for yourself.
This can result in people getting to college but still spending their time doing things that don't help them and aren't enjoyable, which is a waste of your time and you deserve better.
I'm curious, what is your biggest regret from college, or high school? What do you wish you had done differently? Also, these are difficult times for everyone, so even if you're not able to carve out time for yourself, don't beat yourself up about it, there will be plenty of adulthood to figure that out with.

This is super insightful! I'm someone who definitely feels like I'm at a crossroads in my college experience, and this gave me a few ideas on how to approach that analytically. Thanks for your advice

Hypotheticals are a slippery slope. You could argue our experiences are just the prizes we win from the lottery of birth. Its kind of like saying, “Why couldn’t 21yr old me have been more like 30yr old me”. But 21yr old me didn’t have the maturity, experience, and confidence to draw from what 30yr old me does.
As far as nature vs. nurture is concerned, wouldn't you agree those factors play a huge role in our decision making? Next to jumping into a time machine and going back to the future to do something about their kids..telling one or two insecure, socially awkward, impoverished 19yr old’s as an adult person that they should take calculated risks, be more open and social, and ask informed questions that are clearly beyond their mental capacity, just seems rather…impractical.. Why is it always on them? I know, it’s a rant.
My biggest college regret(the first time): going as a young person.

for sure, I think you make good points. Yea there's really nothing to do except for what you're able to do at the exact moment in life you're in. I guess what I'm able to do is make this youtube video lol
