Did the length of school days change or something? We had a decent lunch period and recess when I was in school... and my nieces did as well. Is this a Washington thing or a national problem?
This is alarming to hear considering one of the hidden factors of the obesity epidemic is not having enough time to eat our meals. Eating quickly reduces the satiety signal to our brains saying, “I’ve had enough to eat” even if the food is calorie dense. A habit of this leads to overeating in the long term. The children who only have a 15 minute lunch break are being done a massive disservice for the sake of keeping up test scores! What about their health?
How about expanding the length of the days so that the children can have more time to eat for lunch? Teachers won't be expected to spend more time in the classroom but the children will have longer lunch and breakfast periods.
@@KH-tx6lg yet adults are trying to force feed children vegetables they hate while serving low quality garbage as a alternative the US could stand to learn from other countries who start cooking there kids school lunches much earlier resulting in better quality and tasting food.
Sooo workers have to be given a certain length of a lunch break by law. But kids are forced to eat in a short amount of time. Rediculous. The test scores are not going to be affected by a few minutes here or there. But I bet having a good lunch does increase the scores. Not to mention breakfast & I think they should be allowed snacks too in the classroom itself.
So is food, or eating unimportant? Aren't schools also starting to serve breakfast? Maybe it is time to reevaluate our education system. As family farms have been overtaken by corporate entities, education needs have increased. Children need adequate time for nutrition. If you dedicate 30 minutes for recess, lunch should be allowed 30 minutes. The schools job is to educate. As the school day gets longer, nutritional needs increase. In high school, we had 40 minutes for lunch.
It’s not only for digestive and nutritional health that we want longer lunch times but also for the free time it allows kids to practice social skills without direct adult interference- so important for some kids especially
Time is everything? It’s all about money, not time. They don’t want to hire more staff because it would cost over half a million a year. In this state, we pay a lot of taxes-where does it all go? My son only had two minutes to eat yesterday because he was the last in line, and after eating, he had to clean. This is very negligent and concerning.
Mash potatoes? Yuk gravy... Yuk.... Kids need REAL food, not greasy cancer inducing fried chicken. How have we been having school for 200 years and all of a sudden we can't figure out lunch period
It's better than the schools that bring in Subway and Pizza Hut. At least the food looks to be prepared at the school. We had fried chicken growing up in the 70s... not sure why it would be an issue now.

I didn’t and that was 50 years ago.
20 minutes, 7 minutes standing in line. So about 12 minutes to find a table, eat, clean my tray.
Ridiculous

If the school staff gets a 30 minute or longer lunch as mandatory per state laws then so should the students be allowed a 30 minute or longer lunch.
I think quality of food should be a more important conversation here.
I agree. The food quality is so poor
Good lord. Shame on this rule. Again, suffer the children.

This. Were it up to me, lunch period would be a full hour.
Why no just give your child to the government 🤦🏻♀️ seriously? Kids spend too much time away from their families.
School meals are sometimes the only food kids get😢 I liked that in some classes, the next lesson could start while they were still eating

It's a known issue that scarfing up your food is one of the reasons for weight problems.
Too many kids funneled into too few schools means less time for everyone to eat.
Sounds like an adult workers lunch and break schedule. When do they get to be kid's?
30 min. meal and 15 min recess is reasonable,
So is food, or eating unimportant?

Looks like prison food
dog chow is a more affordable alternative for these kids
Prison Planet
You have to love those bean counters worrying about math scores. So they shorten lunch period
